Why don't you think to do Intermediate,I think if you've to study in Pakistan in future then doing Inter should be your priority.

Well, there, all I'll probably have to do is listen to the teacher and read around. And as far as I know, there aren't any set textbooks for A levels, just reference books.

If you go to college in Pakistan, it's an entirely different story. You go to coaching centers because no one bothers to go to college, students and teachers alike. You get notes which are like, really, really long and you have to learn by heart, plus the books are a gazillion years old. Absolutely outdated.

You are not sheer wrong.We have to go to coaching centers as well,but this is not the general state of colleges all over Pakistan,there are good colleges too.The college where I am going currently,is good in teaching but they don't take tests,that's the problem because there are students who don't learn until they are compelled to learn.Books,some of them are very old,but these include English and Urdu books,and it doesn't matter to learn these book of old additions.If you talk about the science subjects,the books are completely up to date.

And the students who don't get good marks defend themselves by saying that their papers have been bungled,if there is done strict checking,it happens with all students not with a single student,IMO..I should be little careful lest this sort of checking should happen with me

Do you study Urdu in an Indian School or you are talking about the time when you were in Pakistan?

In Pakistan,Urdu is the least scoring subject,one has to write a loooooot and then he/she gets 70-75 out of 100,and only the toppers cross the sum of 80.

I am accounting for both - my time in Pakistan and UAE. I didn't really face a tough situation regarding Urdu in Pakistan because I only studied till grade 2 there.

It is fairly easy to get good marks in Urdu here.

I bet, cuz in my lingo, "security breach" is code for "we messed up, the exams leaked, now you pay". They never revealed the details.

I wrote to them a lot, made me feel somewhat better. Said a lot of good stuff.

Initially, I was going to choose French because I wanted to learn a new language but then I didn't. It was a masterstroke from my side as I found out that it was pretty tough. I would be overloaded as we have to learn Arabic as well. I didn't have a clue about both the languages earlier.

Urdu is the easiest of all the second languages. I bash all the others.

And speaking from personal experience, I understand what you mean.. Having given grade 9 finals, grade 10 finals, send ups, mocks - I was practically sick and tired of my O level books. I felt like puking especially when I opened up Business studies :/

My advice would be to take it easy. Do not over prepare, I feel it just adds frigidity to your thought process. A little creativity wont hurt, ever.. But do hang in there - just one more month to go before freedom!

I know someone who got 3 papers rechecked. Borderline Bs. They were all changed to As - and the mistake?

Clerical error during counting. Yes, you read that right. They miscalculated her marks! Cant forget her face when she ran to school, jumping and screaming about her grade changes ...

The biggest mistake of my life was not applying for LUMS.. But in hindsight, I think whatever happened, happened for the best. And was most probably inevitable.

But undoubtedly, we have some solid institutions. NUST Islamabad was recently ranked as the best emerging university in the world in engineering..

GIKI?Is it in Swabi?

There are number of good medical colleges in Pakistan,K.E,Fatima Jinnah and Allama Iqbal are few of them.

There are good very good universities of arts as well here,NCA is one of them,which is one of the top universities in Asia.

Oho, I don't mind, to be very honest - but PP can be a pretty tight knit community.. which is why I'll hold off answering that question (just dont be offended, or anything! )

Let's just say its very cold, here

Pre-med is tougher than Commerce-based subjects (that I had).. Anyhow, about exams, all I can say is that the time is gone for learning (for most part) - now its all about perfecting your application. I say ditch the books and master those past papers, as many as you can.

For my A level accounting (God, how I hated that subject) - our book contained pastpapers from the 1980s, and we pretty much did them all. 2 weeks before the exam, my teacher emailed us some 20 extra practice questions from ACCA exams. Needless to say, majority of the class aced it (even though Accounting is one of the toughest subjects to write in A levels - and the rumours are true: Accounts paper 4 is at times, technically incorrect.. so there).

But do allow yourself some breathing room. I'm not sure if it works for everyone, but I personally require some down time before an exam to gather my senses about me. Over-preparation has let me down more times than I'd like to say (in fact, Pak Studies [specifically Geography] was one instance where I messed up even though I knew everything).. The aim of the game is to assure yourself you know everything (which you probably do) and that you can handle anything thats thrown at you.

The fact that you've taken so many exams that you feel used to it - I think thats great. Completely puts off exam pressure, and helps dealing with nerves.

As for when you are practically sitting in the hall, taking your exam - and you feel tired and exhausted in the middle (like I did today's exam, in the middle of my 21-page marathon) - just buck yourself up immediately. Remind yourself you've toiled so hard for this moment, and it's all under control - you will not let it slip away like that. Time management is everything in O/A levels - you get that right, you're practically in the B+ category..

Aw man. Now I miss my O/A level days.... :'D
