Correction: Kids at school memorize over 450 pages, not 200.
Also, am I the only unfortunate poster who has their final O Level exams this year? All of you are almost through with your exams and mine haven't even started, and they're going to last over a MONTH.
Pray for me people, I need it!
O levels or A levels?
You need a proper word it's Ratta baziin English it's mugging up and it's very popular among the pupils
.But I hate it,it's like ruining your career and your parents money, because in professional life nobody can get any benefit after mugging up things.
Some Pupils just prefer to get good marks rather than learning anything, this sort of behaviour makes them Parhe Likhe Jahil![]()
O Levels. It's driving me crazy, God knows what I'm gonna do in A levels.
Exactly!
My mother uses the phrase parhe likhe jahil a lot.
Unfortunately, for most kids, this is the only way of getting grades because a lot of teachers aren't qualified to teach the levels they do.
Not Intermediate, the system freaks me out. I can't learn book after book of any subject. Plus, people tell me the percentage deduction thing still happens.
Do they have projectors in Pakistan?![]()

This is deep.My pleasure if I could inspire someone to study..

Not to mention the stories I've heard when it comes to paper checking here. I'd much rather trust a person in England with my exam than one in Pakistan. No offense, anyone.
Do you study Urdu in an Indian School or you are talking about the time when you were in Pakistan?
In Pakistan,Urdu is the least scoring subject, one has to write a loooooot and then he/she gets 70-75 out of 100,and only the toppers cross the sum of 80.
Of course dude. Just because we're living in Pakistan doesn't mean we're not living in 2014.![]()
Mine start from 19th May to 24th June, over a month
I wouldn't
Actually, I meant that do they have it in most of the schools. They should have it.
A lot of information can be given to students using internet. Also, the notes can be provided through MS Word, which saves you from the dirty handwriting of your teacher.![]()
Join the club.
Why wouldn't you trust them? At least I know they know what they're doing. But the British Council is just... We had to retake our CIEs last year.:'(
Got a cricket match today, was thinking of bowling Fast/mediums for first two overs then leg-spin for the next two. Are you allowed to do that in Cricket?
yes why not
Yh I think i heard about that at least you got another attempt at it. Last year my first Economics paper I was 1 mark off an A, got my paper back showed my teacher one question, he looked at the mark scheme and said I had got it right even though i got marked 0/2 for the question, sent it for a remark and it came back unchanged
. They've also robbed me in Maths.
Ooh, that must've hurt! That's why you don't trust them.
As for the second attempt, no one needed it. We got these really easy Pak Studies papers initially and the Islamiyat ones were way easier than expected too. The next exams we got were plain crap. Made no sense at all and they took our grades down with them.![]()
Yup, ohh that must of been peak, did the papers get leaked? It happned with Edexcel in Maths, the paper got leaked and people in other countries + certain schools did it, but majority of the schools had to do it again (Maths C3), apparently the paper was soo hard that some stuff weren't on the syllabus. Lots of schools complained as well
Yeah, I know what you meant.
We use projectors in my school a lot, we get to watch a lot of presentations and all that seems to be of no help and are boring. Gives you a lot of time to talk.
And all the notes I get are printed, or I write them myself.
Your system is the Federal Board, right? The Karachi/Sindh Board is utterly pathetic. The books you have now are the same ones my aunts and uncles used all those years ago.
I am accounting for both - my time in Pakistan and UAE. I didn't really face a tough situation regarding Urdu in Pakistan because I only studied till grade 2 there.
It is fairly easy to get good marks in Urdu here.
You're lucky,we scarcely get good marks in Urdu.![]()
Colleges and universities are good in Pakistan no doubt.
Medical colleges are good though. Although too many private ones have popped up.
NUST AND GIKI are really good for engineering as well and then you have LUMS.![]()
lol being curious is telling people to get a life?Frustrated? Nah, I was just curious.
You're back at school and have decided to waste less time, I have my CIEs in less than a week and am wasting more time than you.![]()
thats what i mean, it kills the quality and also means graduates will find it hard to get a job in Pakistani and even more so out of Pakistan. It's just a cheap money grab.
I have relatives in England and Australia who all go to these colleges when dont get entry in the country they live in. All have ended up nowhere
My pleasure if I could inspire someone to study..

You exams are in the offing too?I think all PP'ers have to go through this task in the coming days.Best of luck.
What are you studying?
O Levels. It's driving me crazy, God knows what I'm gonna do in A levels.

Graduation - B.A Hons, I guess. International relations and political science. I'll start 3rd year in september
What about you?

I will take my 12th grade exams next month.
Do you study in Lahore?
I wasn't telling you to get a life, I was talking to someone else.lol being curious is telling people to get a life?
And I have life dependent exams in 2 weeks so technically I shouldn't be on PP at all![]()
Don't get fooled into thinking that you'd trust a british marker. They'll mark you down if you wrote DNA instead of deoxyribonucleic acid lol. They're way too harsh
O levels awwww :'D
I gave my O levels back in 2009-10.
What subjects?
And speaking from personal experience, I understand what you mean.. Having given grade 9 finals, grade 10 finals, send ups, mocks - I was practically sick and tired of my O level books. I felt like puking especially when I opened up Business studies :/
My advice would be to take it easy. Do not over prepare, I feel it just adds frigidity to your thought process. A little creativity wont hurt, ever.. But do hang in there - just one more month to go before freedom!![]()
I have those pre-med subjects. Boring as hell.
Tell me about taking exams.I've actually spent almost half of my time in O levels taking exams, I've gotten so used to them that I stopped caring about them, even my finals.
I'm taking things very easy, way easier than I should be. God help me.
You study in N. America? What country, if you don't mind?
Nah, Im in North America for now..
Plan to return in 2 days though
I never realised theres so much young blood in PP these days![]()
You're returning for good? No,I think, you have to complete your Bachelors, right?
Initially, I was going to choose French because I wanted to learn a new language but then I didn't. It was a masterstroke from my side as I found out that it was pretty tough. I would be overloaded as we have to learn Arabic as well. I didn't have a clue about both the languages earlier.
Urdu is the easiest of all the second languages. I bash all the others.![]()
2 more years to go!
I'm going back for 20 days. I have to be back to take the summer semester.
![]()
Wow I feel old now, very much remember the stress of exams. And the feeling that as soon as I sat at the desk I used to forget everything and thinking oh crap what am I going to do now!
I would say enjoy it as nothing beats the relief and holidays after exams.

You've gone there for your studies?
No, no.. I'm based in Lahore - lived here all my life![]()
Currently I'm abroad for my studies, but will go back home for 20 days..... stuff my face with as many halwa-puris as I can......
![]()
Yeah if it was up to me I would opt to be a student for life. Things are much more chilled out.

@blindinglight while you are at it don't forget Mohammadi Nihari. I'm missing home already

You can always return for your masters/PhD ...
I sometimes wonder about doing a PhD, just for the heck of it. My field (Poli-Sci/IR) is such that you can hardly get by with a Masters.. I will do Masters for sure..... but PhD?
I often question my sanity.

Lol,don't worry, time will fly past in a wink, then you will eat halwa pur daily![]()
That place is less than 10 minutes from my house - I can almost taste it :'D
Are you toiling abroad as an intl student/worker too?
InshAllaaah!
Not daily though.. or maybe just - I don't know.. I'm just very sentimental about my food![]()
You must have a lot of extra kilos to shed.
You will do M.Phil after the 4 years of B.A,right?
Lol I've done Bsc Msc everything before the age of 23. Now settled into work life.
