Arshdeep Singh has been bowling well. Babar and Rizwan are likely to open again.

They better watch out as he can take them both in the first spell. If Bumrah doesn't.

It looks like batting second will be difficult.
Whoever wins the toss and bats first is likely to win.

PAKISTAN WILL LOSE BIG AND WILL BE DEMORALISED AFTER THE LOSS. IF iNDIA BATS FIRST THEY WILL SCORE IN EXCESS OF 200. PAKISTAN 150 MAXIMUM

"Inse Nahi Haarenge": Suresh Raina's Emotional Overflow On Playing Against Pakistan

When India and Pakistan square off in cricket at world stage, it is more than just a game. India and Pakistan have had a history and national pride is at stakes when these two sides meet. Since both teams don't play each other anymore in bilaterals due to the political differences, fans only get two see India and Pakistan face off at ICC or ACC events. India and Pakistan are set to renew their rivalry on June 9 at the T20 World Cup, with New York ready to host the first ever match between the two sides.

Former India batter Suresh Raina is confident about India's chances of winning against Pakistan, who are going through a bit of slump at the moment.

Raina also reserve big praise for India captain Rohit Sharma and said that the 2007 T20 World Cup winner holds the respect of players in the dressing room.

"Our team looks very good. They are going to play against Pakistan in New York. Rohit led the team really, really well. He has been amazing with his planning and he is getting a lot of respect from the dressing room. We have a lot of options. We have two all-rounders," Raina was quoted as saying at en event.

Recalling his playing days, Raina also shed light on the magnitude of the India vs Pakistan games and added that the Indian players will put everything on the line to win against Pakistan, and vice-versa.

"We played a lot of matches, Yuvraj Singh, RP, Rahul, against Pakistan. When you are representing your country, you try to give your best. I am really looking forward to playing against Pakistan in England. We played lot of matches together. We have retired from the sport, but not from the heart. When you see the tricolour, you feel Jee Jaan lagaadenge lekin inse nahi haarenge [we will give it our all but not lose to them]," he added.

The Indian players head into the T20 World Cup on the back of a lengthy IPL season, which came to a conclusion last week with KKR beating SRH in the final.

Pakistan, on the other hand, lost to England in a four-match T20I series earlier this week.

It's not much of a rivalry anymore. In the past, Pakistan used to beat India in matches outside the World Cup but would lose to them in the World Cup games we had some sort of hope.

Now, Pakistan is even losing c teams and Ireland, making it seem unlikely they can beat India.

'If we win against Pakistan, we'll...': Yuvraj Singh on the marquee T20 World Cup clash

The highly anticipated India-Pakistan cricket match is set to take place in New York on June 9. Former cricket star Yuvraj Singh, who has played numerous thrilling encounters between the two nations, is excited about the match as it would be his first time watching it from the stands."Well, it's a game of emotion. If we win, we'll go crazy. If we lose, we'll go crazy. But the thing is, if we win, they will go crazy with us. If we lose, they will go crazy with us. That's the difference," Yuvraj said.

"But I think, whether it's India, Pakistan, or any other game, I'm sure the guys are going 100%. It's just that I always feel that the team who control their emotion on that day better and focus on the match situation, they will win the game."

"In the last couple of years, we've had a better record than Pakistan. And hopefully, we can continue that."The stylish left-handed batter added, "I think I would not be that nervous going into India-Pakistan game watching it. I've watched on TV, but never been to the ground watching an India-Pakistan match. This will be first time."Yuvraj said "locals" will need to "play the game and explore it" in order for cricket to gain traction in the USA.

He is astounded by Americans' propensity for packaging their sports. The ongoing T20 World Cup is being co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, with games slated to take place in New York, Dallas, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

"To all the (Indian American) fans who come here for cricket, who I know want India to win, but I think you should encourage your American friends and all the people around the world to come and watch every game and encourage the sport of cricket in America," Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj was present at the Fan Park launch at the Oculus Trade Center in New York, where he is an ICC Ambassador for the T20 World Cup."I'm sure this is a place where all the best sports in the world are played. America is a place where all sports are popular."

"In our country, I know cricket is very popular amongst other sports, but I think it will be amazing to watch cricket grow in America because I feel the way the Americans package sports, I don't see as much happening around the world," he added.

This is the first time that the USA, a member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is hosting a cricket tournament of this size, and it has attracted some attention in this region of the world that is passionate about American football (NFL), baseball, and the NBA.

"Definitely, the interest is growing in America. The major league (cricket) has come and done really well, cricket is really growing. I think the way Americans package sports is amazing, and if they can package cricket like that, like their sports, it will be great to watch."But, along the way, the locals will have to play the game and explore it. It's going to take time. But, as I said, Americans, the way they package sports, is amazing, and if they can do it with cricket, it will be good to watch," Yuvraj said.

Yuvraj is thrilled to see Americans not only participate in, but also host a premier international cricket competition. In Dallas, the USA defeated rivals Canada by seven wickets to start their campaign.

"All the best to you and the American team, but India is far ahead in cricket right now. Part of you, which is also Indian, so I know inside you want India to win as well."But to say a few words about this iconic place, we all know the history over here and we all know what happened and people's lives do matter."And to the World Cup teams, I wish them all the best and may the best team win, and I hope you guys really enjoy the tournament and cheer all teams. I know you want to back India, but if India is not playing, cheer other teams as well," Yuvraj said.

This is what Rahul Dravid has to say about the ground. Not the best ground to field seemingly.

"the ground is a bit soft and spongy, guys could feel the effect on the hamstring and calves".

I cant imagine Pakistan doing well on this NY pitch unless we bowl first and get some quick wickets.

only chance pakistan have is bowl first and take early wickets, look at the pitch india vs bangladesh and sri lanka vs south africa. its the worst pitch i ever seen in the history of cricket

biradar , your best chance is on a tough pitch imo !
our best chance was in a place like dubai in 2021
when we bowl first, it seams a lot and in the 2nd innings dew comes in and its then easier to bat
this will not be the case in NY

The place to bowl in NY is at a good length. Something for the pak bowlers to take note. Especially Shaheen who prefers to bowl full upfront.

Bowling too full is also something Pakistan did at the Oval in the 4th T20 against England. Will they be able to adapt? I doubt it haha

The pitch is made for Naseem Shah.

What if they use a different pitch and all our planning and analysis get tossed out lol.
They have used 2 so far. Both look similar. OUtfield is the major issue. You have to hit sixes for acceleration. No choice. Here is where X factors like SKY, Pant will come into picture. Ofcourse Kohli will keep running hard with large playing field.

I think the first pitch was much better through compared to this. Let’s see how the next one behaves.

Shaheen will surely try to bowl full deliveries here but we have mighty Shadab Khan too who will come up with full tosses on this track. :D

If the pitch is the same as what he seen today pakistan definitely has a chance.

So Pakistan gets no game time on this pitch and how many have India played there now?
Tired of these excuses. You never see teams like Aus giving excuses. The t20wc is a money making enterprise- and Ind gets the most viewership and so all Ind games are in nyc. Its the SC fans who complain all the time - just see how Aus and Eng play. Once on the pitch on the ground - its the " same" for both teams.

Cricket-New York prepares for India-Pakistan T20: 'Super Bowl on steroids'

New York officials are preparing for the "Super Bowl on steroids" as thousands descend upon Nassau County for the clash of arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the group stage of the T20 World Cup on Sunday.

The two sides form one of the most intense rivalries in sport and the temporary, 34,000-seat stadium in East Meadow, New York, will be bursting at the seams, with millions more watching on TV.

"India vs. Pakistan is like the Super Bowl on steroids. We had no idea how huge it was," Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said. "We want to put our best foot forward."

That has meant an extraordinary safety effort, with security personnel from every level in the region working in conjunction in the county, which sits adjacent to New York City.

New York state governor Kathy Hochul said last week that there will be increased security for the World Cup, after reported threats including those specifically related to the India-Pakistan fixture.

"I found her remarks refreshing," said Blakeman. "I'm very confident that this is a safe environment - if it wasn't, then I wouldn't hold it."

The two sides have not played a test since the 2008 Mumbai attacks and the least expensive ticket available for Sunday's match was $790 on ticket resale website StubHub, as of Monday afternoon.

Operations appeared to go smoothly on Monday and security blanketed the stadium in New York as it hosted the first of eight matches, as South Africa beat Sri Lanka by six wickets.

The United States are co-hosting the tournament with the West Indies, with matches staged also in Texas and Florida, as cricket hopes to woo American fans before returning to the Olympic programme in 2028.

The 12,562 fans in attendance in New York on Monday kept a party atmosphere going and immigrants who never thought they would see their national team play cricket on U.S. soil got a taste of home.

"Literally a dream come true. One would never expect cricket to be here (but) like you see so many fans out here," said Shehan Perera, 27, who moved to the U.S. from Sri Lanka when he was 14-years-old.

"There's a demand for cricket anywhere. If there's an event, we're going to show up."

So Pakistan gets no game time on this pitch and how many have India played there now?

A champions mentality doesn’t worry about these things, both teams will be playing on the same pitch on the day.

Pakistan, or should I say Babar, Rizwan, Shadab, Shah & Ifti Chacha have a champions mentality so there’s no need to worry.

Ex-India Star Warns Rohit Sharma And Co, Says This Pak Star "Can Win The Match Alone"

India and Pakistan will resume their iconic rivalry in the ongoing T20 World Cup on June 9 in New York. The last two T20 World Cup meetings between the two sides have ended in a win each for either sides. While Pakistan beat India 10 wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup, the Rohit Sharma-led side took revenge a year later in Australia with a four-wicket triumph. Both teams had also met in the ODI World Cup last year, and India had also won that game convincingly.

While there is always some buzz surrounding the India-Pakistan matches, former India batter Mohammed Kaif has opted to play down the hype around the blockbuster meeting this time.

According to Kaif, Pakistan have a 'weak' team this time around, barring a few match winners.

"Everyone knows Pakistan's batting is weak. Fakhar Zaman plays a little fast. If he fires, he can probably win the match alone. Iftikhar Ahmad plays fast but other than that, everyone plays at a strike rate of 120 to 125. You are not that scared of their batting but are scared of their bowling," Kaif said during a discussion on Star Sports.

Kaif, however, warned India to keep an eye on Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah, who was the star performer for Pakistan when the two sides met during the last T20 World Cup.

"They will have Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah. Naseem Shah didn't come to play the World Cup in India. He was injured, but he is fit here. This will be a bouncy pitch. Naseem Shah is a very good bowler. If you talk about the Melbourne match that Virat Kohli won, if you see Naseem Shah's first spell, he got a nick and the catch was dropped at slip," he added.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Sanju Samson (wk), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj

Reserves: Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan

Pakistan squad: Babar Azam (c), Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usman Khan.

India obviously favourites and rightly so. India are so far ahead of Pakistan it’s not even funny anymore.

In a lot of these seemingly emotional and highly charged rivalries, the underdog has a serious chance because the favourite knows they should win and have the added pressure. The underdogs have extra bite and motivation.

In the 90s even though India were clearly the underdogs, you could see how much they wanted to win. Even the likes of debashish mohanty were highly charged to try and win.

The difference here is that the Pakistan team are so timid, so in awe of India, they just don’t have that hunger or bite. They would rather queue up and get some camera moments with Kohli.

These are the games the underdog relish. Unfortunately, our team are so stale, so timid, so devoid of any testosterone, they won’t rise to it. They would rather just get the game out of the way and find a way to smile through it.

The only way India lose is if they beat themselves.

S Sreesanth considers Babar-Rizwan duo a big threat for team India:

"It will be worth seeing who is putting the new ball. If Arshdeep bowls the first over who made him struggle, We have seen their weakness before. When they start attacking, if they don't stop the runs, they will knock out a lot of bowlers. I think if we don't get the wickets in the powerplay, the match between Pakistan and India will be very tough. I think on 9th June, India needs to pick a wicket in the first over" said Sreesanth.

"I want Bumrah to come first and bowl the first over. We have heard who will take the new ball, but I think if you are watching Bumrah, please finish Rizwan and Babar first",

Speaking on a sports channel, the former Pakistan cricketer Younis Khan was asked by the host Erin Holland about what he would do if he was the captain of the Pakistan team in the T20 World Cup 2024, He said:

"The answer is quite simple. They [Pakistan team] have to go with a fresh mindset and not worry [about pressure] that this is a India-Pakistan game."

"The players should go with this mindset. You go to the toss - win or lose, you should not worry. It is all about your body language - make sure that it should be good. This is how we used to do [in the past]."

Can someone explain why India gets to play in New York right before the game against Pakistan at the same venue, whereas Pakistan does not have this advantage? Not making an excuse but just curious. Perhaps a coincidence?

This is what they do. Handicap Pakistan for that extra advantage.

Rishabh Pant speaking during an interview about the upcoming India vs Pakistan match:

“It’s always quite exciting because it’s a special match. You always feel more pressure because people remember these matches for a long time,”

No-one were stopped PCB to play practice match at New York but they chose to play a T20 series against England in England .

S Sreesanth has spoken the truth, Babar and Rizwan are a threat to India in the powerplay.
And then what? They are a threat to Kuldeep too having survived the powerplay?

Hahahahahaahaahahhaahahhahahahhaahaahhaahhaha

I mean he didn't lie, alot of bowlers will be knocked out, falling asleep out of boredom with these 2 on the crease.

The weather forecast for the India vs. Pakistan T20 World Cup match in New York looks promising! There’s a 20% chance of rain, but overall, the game is expected to continue without interruptions. The average temperature will be around 25°C throughout the day, with 22°C during the match. So, cricket fans can look forward to an exciting clash between these arch-rivals under partly cloudy skies. 🏏☁️

I think Sunday game is a real lottery on this pitch and good thing for both teams is that minnows are in group to escape

First round is an attachment for promotion of cricket. Unless these teams choke against minnow next round is already decided whether they finish 1st or 2nd. It doesn't matter. Seed will decide your group not the table. Consider this is an "official warmup" for all teams. West Indies almost choked here ;)

he knows if rizwan and babar are at the crease playing 7 runs an over india have a big chance
Scoring 7 runs an over might just be the magic formula for victory on this New York surface. They'll likely be given the green light to accumulate runs which isn't the worst idea ever. My only fear that when India comes to bat, wicket will transform into a batting paradise thanks to Shaheen and his crew bowling useless fuller, terrible line and length deliveries and completely missing the plot. Flashback the last T20 lol

India have given a message in the tone of Paul Heyman they look the most destructive ruthless beast, their motto seems to be Eat Sleep Win , their bowling attack is also very strong and given the nature of pitch this may turn into one side humbling also it will be more than 25 years IndoPak cricket will be played in this part of world with last outings the Toronto Cup in white kits way back in late 90s.

hmm, i am not sure it will be same pitch. i think they used this pitch for last couple games but the ind pak pitch may be the one used for ind bangladesh match in which they scored 180+. so pakistan will think they need to play 4 pacers and target 140 runs total but in reality it would be 180+ pitch. seems like a big conspiracy.

I actually hope that we get the same pitch vs India, I’d rather have our batsmen face 4 pace bowlers instead of 2-3 spinners which most of our batsmen struggle against.

Lol at the delusion, no matter what the pitch, India has all bases covered. India's pace bowling attack is way superior to Pakistan plus their batters are more than technically equiped to deal with Pakistan's bowlers. Pakistani batters will be caught wanting against Bhumra, Shami, Siraj, Pandya

If Kohli can boss a Pakistani pace attack of Shaheen, Naseem, Rauf on a pacy, bouncy MCG pitch, why can't he do it in NY?

If Rohit can destroy Shaheen, Rohit on a seaming pitch of Colombo, why can't he do it in NY?

All it takes is a couple of boundaries, aggressive coming down the pitch to the Pakistani pace bowlers to rattle them and wreck their confidence.

Pakistan is winning as this pitch suit pacers. Pakistan has four unplayable fast bowlers where India have only one that is bumrah.

India is winning, they’ve had better preparations than Pakistan. India will win. India will win.

Ind will win comfortably BUT theyr playing on the same pitch as today I would tell Pak bowlers bend ur back extra take a couple of Indian batsman out of the tournament someone’s going to get seriously hurt on these dodgy pitches..

Pakistan is winning as this pitch suit pacers. Pakistan has four unplayable fast bowlers where India have only one that is bumrah.

Bhumrah alone >>> then all the Pakistani bowlers put together.

Rohit will be fully switched on to Shaheen's full blooded inswingers and once Shaheen see's that the delivery has been neutralized, not working, he won't know what else to do.

Rizwan and Bobby Dearest are going to be hopping around trying to waddle away short balls just like in the last WC game against India.

Let’s see who bails is out this time. And if someone does bail us out with the bat, let’s see how we choke it away in the field :afridi1

i don't know why you guys underrate your bowlers, was watching siraj and arshdeep play Ireland it was so refreshing after watching naseem and shaheen for so long.

both indians were bowling on the right spots, something pakistanis can't do after getting hit for couple of boundaries

even the bowlers were doing great vs bangladesh

Pakistan would be at a significant disadvantage for the following reasons:
  1. India has already played two matches on this ground and pitch, giving them greater familiarity with the conditions compared to Pakistan.
  2. Pakistan will be playing its first match on one of the flattest pitches and fastest outfields in the World Cup. Transitioning from this to a pitch with sluggish and variable bounce will make it even harder for them to adjust.

India's bowling is superior to ours, but in the last World Cup semifinals, their bowling was completely dismantled, leaving a lasting impact. Even in the 2023 ODI WC final, their bowling failed to pose much of a serious challenge to Australia's batting lineup.

2022 bowling was bit of an useless attack. They punched above their weight. Arshdeep was fairly new. No Kuldeep No Bumrah No Shami not even Chahal for balance reasons. They went with worst bowling combination. Even this is not the greatest. Few better talents left out in India

Pretty simple I think. Win the toss and bowl first. Because if bat first you might just be cooked on this surface.

I think Pakistan should go with four fast-bowlers. If ever there was a pitch to play four fast-bowlers on, this was it. Shaheen, Amir, Rauf, Naseem and Imad is the best bowling attack that Pakistan can field on this pitch.

I think if the pitch has something in it for for pacers then it becomes a 50/50 game.

Yeah favoritism by icc and bcci. Happy?? Pak is the best team in the wc and so icc and bcci have to ennsure this as Ind cant beat them otherwise. So so unfair? Happy?? Sheesh with these conspiracy theories

India's pace attack is looking lethal, and I'm afraid that Pakistan's batting lineup might struggle to hit big shots against them on the green pitch in New York.

Pakistan will only have a chance if they bowl first

I've never been happier. Thank you brotha!

India has gotten acclimatized which will be a big help. Pakistan will get blown away under 70-80, won’t matter if they bat first or 2nd unless the pitch gets better.

Pak I feel is in the game big time now.

4 pacers + Imad has to be way forward. Cant afford shadab type full tosses and half trackers.

Saim should be given a free pass to go and swing in PP. Even if he gets 15-20 off 10-12 balls it will be a plus and if he fails then Rizbar is there to stabilize.
Pak should look at a game plan of Rizbar playing around 70-75 balls even at run a ball and Saim/Fakhar looking at playing high impact takedown knocks. Need to destroy Jadeja/Axar and attack Siraj/Arshdeep vulnerable links.

135-140 will be a damn good score here.

The way India bowled against Ireland, I do not have good vibes for Pakistan batters. It could be the situation for Pakistan as well. Bumrah was lethal.

Only chance I see is to go for the chase and try to get them out under 160 in the 1st inning.

I Always expect Pakistan to win and they lose.

BUT This time the Indian team looks ominous, their 11 has 4 pacers (Boom, Arsh, Siraj, Hardik) 2 spinners, (Jaddu, Axar), even Dube can bowl.

They have explosive batters Rohit, Pant, Sky, Dube, Hardik. They bat until 8. Kohli always lifts his game against Pakistan.

I dont know how Pakistan can beat this side..

Vikram Rathour (India Batting Coach) post-match Press Conference - 5th June 2024:

[Reporter:]

Does the toss become a little too crucial on a pitch like this?

[Vikram Rathour:]

I think the toss is crucial in conditions like these but fortunately, we won the toss today so it was a great start, but you can't again control that. So even if we lose the toss and we have to bat first, we still need to find ways to deal with the situation and the pitch.

[Reporter:]

Obviously depends on the bowling that you come up against, but let’s say some day you get stuck in by Pakistan and you’ve got to bat first, what's the competitive score on that pitch do you think?

[Vikram Rathour:]

As many as we can get. I'm not going to put any number to that. We need to bat well and maximise whatever we can get.

[Reporter:]

How do you prepare for a game like this when the conditions are completely different to what you are used to or the players are used to. Is it just adaptability or do you have to prepare something differently?

[Vikram Rathour:]

Adaptability is the key, I think. To be honest, the kind of practice wickets that we got, they were very similar to what we are getting in the match. So that helps. We knew what to expect and all the batters were batting on wickets like these when they were practicing.

Babar Azam speaking about India-Pakistan rivalry:

"Ever since I started playing cricket, I’ve heard about the excitement and various levels of pressure associated with it. I’ve never experienced these aspects on the field, so it has a different vibe and experience. The world waits for this game, and I remember when I started playing cricket, there was always talk of the Pakistan-India match. We used to enjoy watching it.”

“The main thing is to enjoy cricket; the rivalry will go on. There is a different level of pressure, and controlling the nerves under pressure comes with experience. The more you play, the more experience you gain from it. You learn how to handle yourself under different kinds of pressure, especially in this particular India-Pakistan match.”

“We used to hear about it, but now that we are playing, it’s a different experience. I thank God for giving me this opportunity. We are watching it live, playing it, feeling it. No matter how much you go into details, you can’t express it. In my opinion, it’s a big match, and we always enjoy it."
