Virat Kohli - The Mega Discussion

I like how after getting to a milestone he doesn't curse anymore and instead acknowledges quietly. He also says a small prayer for his late dad, or dedicates his innings to him.. IDK

But good stuff.. :14:

Been a while Since India had a such a passionate cricketer....who takes his game and winning so seriously!! Felt sad looking at him almost crying....

India is proud to have him and I hope he keeps getting better...

Absolutely..I like the fact that he is taking these things to heart. He is a great competitor who doesnt like to lose. Now this experience will make him even more determined to finish things off and become even a better player (especially in a crunch game like today where he had a rare failure).

Keep going Virat. We need more guys like you.

Doesn't really matter if he cried or not. He is one hell of a batsman. One of the best I have ever seen.

Class, class player. Still gets overly raged though for some reason but is slowly changing his ways.

this man is all class, wouldn't be surprise to see him as India's next captain

Kohlis dejection last time made him work harder and better player and nowSee his current performances.
This failure will make him work motivate him to work harder and become more better player. It is known fact that failure motivates him to overcome it
This fun that is been made of him right now may just come back and haunt you in Dec series vs India becos he will surely come back more hungry for runs and success

this loss could really destroy kohli..if he is that bad losing in super eights imagine if it was a final

if he cant take a defeat like that in the super eights his mentality could be really shot down

i couldn't care about this guy anyway if he does well good on ya son u proved me wrong if not id say told u so .....

Anyone saw Irfan Pathan yesterday showing his 32 teeth after losing? At least Kohli felt the pain the rest of Indians did. My respect for him has only grown after yesterday. Tendulkar cried after losing to Pakistan at Chennai and he blasted all teams to all corners for the next 2 years. Rest of the world, be afraid now. Kohli is our man on a mission.

Don't know about talent, but Virat has the best temperament. I think, from PAK Umar & Shehzad can match him stroke by stroke, but Virat is groomed by a great batting coach at NCA Bangalore (notoriously tough for his unmindful students, believing in make or break, no half measures) in his early teens & has developed into very good batting habits, like conversion of starts & make the fielding side get you out. On contrary, Umar is trained by novices who think, either you drop youngsters to learn from club level domestic games or put him in pads isolated at a corner so that they don't repeat the same mistake.

Then comes the mentor, SRT/Rahul vs..........

Umar & Shehzad are lucky than Nazir that, at least, better late than never, they have got someone as batting coach, who knows a few things more than arranging nets. I told it early several times & stick to that, if anyone breaks SRT's ODI hundred record, first person 'll be Virat. I am a fan of the boy & like his attitude. He 'll be a tremendous Captain.

On top of this, he has an outstanding learning hunger & self respect - by every game he is learning something new, tries his best to avoid repetitive mistake. Initially I thought Virat 'll not be a great Test player, for his predominating front-foot game, but then, he scored his first Test Ton at WACA. Also, he has a tremendous head on his shoulder, 'll definitely lead India for a long, long, long time.

He is aggressive on the field & he converts his aggression into scores. But the best part of his game is his sheer value on his wicket - this man 'll never ever make it easy for the bowler to get him out. Watching Virat's concentration & body language, one can never guess whether he is on 10 or 110, or India needs 20 or 220 to win. Recently he has started to field at slips & I am sure he 'll end up with 100+ Test & ODI catches. Simply, he 'll not throw his wicket for a "Hollywood Shot", unless he is forced to. But, unlike his legendary predecessor from Mumbai, he is not selfish & don't cost team for personal achievements (I know, lot of Indian 'll not like this comment, but that's my understanding).

I had always high hopes on him (Actually, after 2008 U19 WC, I told one of my friends that Indian Junior Captain might break some of the records of SRT, he & others laughed & taunted that time, but not any more) & he hasn't let me down so far. One of my most favorite Indian Batsman ever (Along with Azhar, Ganguly & VVS), he can end up as the first batsman with 50+ average in Test, ODI & FC.

Excellent player. He is a little brash but has toned down. Cares deeply about his team. Trolls gonna troll!

If Kohli is so good why he averaged 15 in WI & in 30s in Aus ....the only 2 away test series he has played....At home he absolutely murdered WI & NZ teams on dead tracks...... Only if Umar Akmal had the chance of bullying teams at home. Kohlis just another over hyped hack who cant do anyting against proper fast bowlers as SA & Aus proved in last 2 games.

He's a special player. The fact he's producing such quality performances with the bat, creates more fear considering he's yet to reach his full potential, let alone his peak.

I remember there was a hot thread where it was on comparison of Umar Akmal and Kohli. I think it's safe to say which one is the better one. And that's Kohli.

Because he was just getting started. He made his debut in the WI and by the time the Australian tour was coming to an end, he already was finding his groove with a fifty (at WACA) and his first test century at Adelaide.

What load of rubbish.

I agree with you. He is rubbish against the short ball. Can't play swing/seam. He is also mediocre against spinners if the track is spinning even a little. If not for BCCI and the curator buddies of Dhoni, he would have struggled against NZ too.

Umar Akmal helped his team to qualify for the semi final with a vry good innings under pressure against South Africa. While in the meantime, Kholi failed against both Australia and South Africa. His only good innings in the super 8 came in an easy chase where India were easely on top!

Kohli will be better than Tendulkar

Man, you indians are blessed to have such an awesome batsman. Unlike our batsmen, this guy has proper technique and most importantly PLAYS STRAIGHT. While we have jokers who play across the line like Imran Nazir, this guy has the temperament, and technique to be better than tendulkar.

So I'm calling it now, this kid is going to be better than tendulker. Mark my words.

If there were rookie cards for cricket, I'd have bought a bunch by now LOL.

AND BEFORE I FORGET, GO PAKISTAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This thread will be bumped for years to come 13 tons already exceptional.

Nope nope. Kohli will be beast but better than SRT? nope. People who have seen SRT in his prime can vouch for it.

That's a very tall order. Let him play for few years and then it might even look remotely realistic to say something like this.

He's massively talented yes, but too early to say. One bad patch could ruin his confidence or not. Time will tell.

Stop putting pressure on the poor guy. Let it stay at the fact that he will be a very good cricketer.
He will charter his own path.

Whats this obsession with X will be the next Y? Jamshed the next Anwar. Kohli the next Sachin. Umar Akmal the next Chris Martin. I mean What the Hell????!!!!

Better than Tendulkar? No way! I have watched Tendulkar all my life and No way Kohli is in his class let alone better than him. Scoring in ODIs mean jack. Tendulkar has been scoring in away Tests from day 1.

:yk hehe

Let see what Kohli does in Test matches first.

I still think he needs to prove himself in that format - that is the format thats can make a good player potentially become a Great.

No doubt he is a class ODI batsman though.

Not Yet!!!not even close... sach had great centuries at perth ,in england , sa while he was a teenager..and in his early 20's!!!! I hope kohli goes on to achieve many things in the future but as of now...no comparison!!!

All this loose talks comes from people who have not seen tendulkar in his prime younger days....a seventeen year old sachin playing those sublime shots in england and aus.... Many here were not even born then....

Why is scoring in ODIs not significant? and he outplayed Tendulkar in Australia.

Kohli is far superior to Tendulkar, in current form.
I have seen Sachin during his hey days, no doubt he has scored a lot of centuries, but he never saw his team home. Hence, I am also saying, Kohli will surpass Tendulkar in records, and any other player of India in Match winning knocks.

only thing will let him down his attitude, I mean I am not a huge fan of Tendulkar but dude, the most humble player in the world, even if he shows attitude no one will mind, but that guy never replied a or atleast I never witnessed in his whole career, and Kohli his attitude is soo bad that even though he is right now India's or may be worlds one of best we hate him. Just like we hate Indian team just because of their delusional paranoid fans, and attitude of their players.

records mean crap, they are just numbers, but i guess the only way to determine who is better and who is not.

Kholi being better thn Tendu, still to early to say, but he is currently the best batsmen out there to get close to tendu record, if he stay determined and focus, sure he can break tendu recor, why not?

Teenda was world class batsman in both tests and ODI from day 1. While Kohli only seem to do well in ODIs. And records is one thing but he doesnt look anywhere near as good as Teenda did while batting.

As somebody else said.....people who do this comparison never watched Sachin in 1996 to 2000 phase...I was too young when sach made his debut...but youtube videos I have watched of sachin as a teenager was enough to say he was just one of the greatest teenage cricketers....I mean a 18 year old at perth against Aus and he scored 114 ....he was as great batsman as any playing in that time when he was 18!!!!!

really?

didn't it take SRT 4 years to score 1st ton?

No way you can just tell by the shots Sachin plays, he does seem a class apart.

OP is dreaming. Wont get anywhere near Tendulkar records.

that's not bad for kohli if the record you are mentioning is the one in your signature. ;-)

on topic, nope. Kohli has long way to go. I think specially australians will remember his innings in the year '98. He was an one man army.

Proper technique guy averaged 15 in in first series in WI & in 30s in Aus ... :sachin averaged 57 in WI & 46 in Aus in 1st series in same countries

Yep and Kohli is nothing like that. Also has only lost 40 international matches which means losing another 220 is going to be tough work.

I have watched Sachin's batting during 90s. He is in altogether different league. Pls dont compare Kohli with Sachin. Sachin is a genius whereas Kohli is an extraordinary performer.

Sachin's batting in his prime was consistently beastly. Don't associate with his present style of play (accumulation), in his prime the guy would attack. Sachin's batting style and approach back than was something truly special.

Kohli is a good one. He's a solid replacement for Sachin, but not sure if he's truly the 'next' Sachin. That's going too far.

sachin + match_winner = kohli ;-)

match winning is one of the qualities of a player. when you talk about overall batting, you have to give only 25% weightage to matchwinning ability. Dhoni is one of the best matchwinners in the world in Odi, but when it comes to batting quality he is no where close to Sachin or Lara even if you take away test career of these two players.

Kohlis batting reminding me young Ponting.

Even on current form Kohli does not match Tendulkar of 1998. May be, he will do so in future, but as of now, even in ODIs, it is no.

Kohli is a wonderful talent and will provide lots of entertainment in his cricketing career. Too early to say what that record will be but I think Sachin will always rule the roost.

no one will come close to sachin's record.

For India's sake I hope Kohli is not another Sachin...a grade-A selfish loser who plays high percentage cricket for his average and milestones...there is no flair, flamboyance or desire to play spectacularly on the part of Sachin when it came to Test cricket...and India's record over the years has adequately shown this fact...
