Virat Kohli - The Mega Discussion

it would be harsh on khloi to compare him with an opener. I think Azhar Ali or Malik are the right person for him to get compared with

Well he normally bats at no 3 and that's the closest position to an opener.

Regardless, I meant in terms of sheer numbers, Shezhad has been averaging and striking at a higher rate than Kohli.

Id rather have out of form kohli than in form shehzad

I just posted an objective statement, I'm not delving into whether you're right or wrong.

One thing is for sure, Shezhad has the bigger attitude problems of the two despite not being half the calibre of Kohli.

Now everyone can say Kohli can tie Shehzad shoes :ahmed

Wait, so FC bumped this thread before the game ended and it went pear shaped very fast :)))

Greatest bump ever.

When the going gets tough. The tough gets going. :kohli

The champ is here, baby.

LOL!

When the going gets tough, the tough wildly slogs into the leg-side, despite it being packed with fielders on the boundary. I am so happy that FC witnessed this amazing double-choke after bumping all these threads.

I believe these ODI fielding rule changes are going to expose a lot of players who have benefited from the extra fielders in the ring in the final few overs. South Africans had done their home work and bowled to their field in the final overs and Kohli obliged by slogging straight to the fielder placed for him on the leg side.

Yes, intelligent observation. I just hope that the boundary ropes are not brought in even closer, in order to compensate for batsmen not being able to hit sixes.

Have you noticed all these threads backfire?

I remember the Umar Akmal thread. :(

Sure Kohli is now much much better than Akmal, but you know what I mean.

Back in form.

The 2nd best ODI batsman in the world after MS Dhoni.

I hate him scoring against us.

But he is a great player to watch. And he has been magnificent in his short career. No issues having two bad test series and a year bad in odi cricket . A not very bad , bad year. Every batsman has time when he gets out of form.

He will end up ending odi and test cricket averaging 50 plus and you never know he may end up scoring 60+ in one of these formats.

What he has achieved in his odi career uptil now is what even Sachin could not achieve in as many matches and especially the number of wins chasing big totals.

People should calm down.

I told you so 3 days back . . .

I never said ABD is better than Kohli , did i ?

You came up with ABD's name when i talked about Kohli being the 2nd best ODI batsman in the world after MS Dhoni. I fail to see the problem in that statement.

Told you all. Don't discount this legend.

You all used to make fun of Rohit. Including all Indians few years back and I was the only one supporting him. Now look at him. And now look at Kohli.

A great of this era.

ODI Hundred #24 :kohli

Fastest to reach 7,000 runs as well. :14:

Did it in just 161 innings in roughly 7 years.

Fastest to 7000 ODI runs too, fastest and youngest to reach 24 ODI tons as well. Only four players ahead of him now:

SR Tendulkar (India) 49
RT Ponting (Aus) 30
ST Jayasuriya (SL) 28
KC Sangakkara (SL) 25

Kholi is an issue for Ind right now. He's been scoring way to slow and has been instrumental in Ind not getting the scores they need to pressure the Aussies. With the likes of MSD and Jayja he should be putting his foot down way earlier but seems to be content racking up meaningless 50's and 100's. Have to question his commitment

Here are his strike rates in the 3 ODI matches in this series so far -

1st match - 93.81

2nd match - 88.05

3rd match - 100

Way too slow, right?

You've highlighted my point beautifully. You do know 300 hasn't been enough so anything under 100 is poor. No use getting 50's so slow when there are a string of batsmen waiting to come in. Kholi needs to be less selfish at times, a big like Rahane and MSD

When you have batsmen like Rahane, Dhoni and Jadeja coming in next, Kohli should bat even slower than he is right now at the start of his innings.

Dhonis form is iffy and Jadeja is batting like a tailender these days so it's no wonder top order players like Kohli are in two minds to push on or not.

Most posters here think that we have a great batting line up but to be fair its not the case. Our middle order is fragile. Hence, the top order has to play with more responsibility. The way Aussies are chasing I doubt even if Kohli or Rohit bats quickly we are not going to defend even 325-330.

SHould get close to Tendulkar's record by the time he hangs his boots. Funny thing about hundreds they dry up suddenly and it then takes 6 months or years to hit one. Tendulkar has 100 hundreds, his ride from 99th to 100th though took 2 years.

All he needs is to dominate one World Cup to become a proper ATG/legend in ODIs.

Last innings was a good stats booster , probably one of his least impressive innings in terms for impact . Unlike a lot of players he played some of all time best ODI innings very early in his career & lately been just accumulating runs which hasnt helped the team much . Hope hes just returning to form .

It was a good inning. When you have Dhawan on other end batting at SR of 50, how can we expect him to really demolish the bowling attack. He batted pretty well yesterday. He batted like he always does. Yes, the previous two weren't that impressive.

Having kept Kohli to just the one run in the 35th over, Faulkner attempted to engage the Indian in a meeting of the minds, earning this stunning rebuke from the batsman.

“You’re wasting your energy,” Kohli said.

“Smile,” Faulkner replied.

“There’s no point,” rebutted Kohli.

“Having fun aren’t we?” inquired the Australian

“I’ve smashed you enough in my life. No point, just go and bowl,” Kohli answered.

Brutal. :kohli

Unfortunately, Australia have smashed India enough in his lifetime as well.

I think India's also smashed Australia good enough in his life time.

2011 vs 2015 wc

Lost tests in us but won every test in India during the time.

Lost ODIs in Australia, won ODI series in India.

So he's got the team bragging rights in ba;ance but individually he just destroyed Faulkner there with this brutal comment. :))) Great sledging lol :))) :)) :kohli

Faulkner's face afterwards was quite awkward lol. He was thoroughly embarrassed.

Certainly bit more than he could chew. I love when sledging Aussies are put in their place.

Lol, then you should have seen the moments when i think Ishant took wicket of Marsh and Dhoni took the catch, Kohli was acting like he has topped the K-2 :)) But when Maxy and Faulkner was finishing the game and they were doing per-celebrations, should have seen the embarrassed face of Kohli :)))

Ganguly used to get under their skin once in a while if memory serves me right.

Socring these run a ball centuries on these tracks is not called smashing...
It's what you expect from players like Amla to score run a ball. Not match winners like Kohli think of himself or you guys think of him.

Apart from some innings on reallly flat flat tracks, Kohli as just be an accumulator like Amla in ODI's. This style of play is loosing India a lot of matches. Scoring runs in not any problem in this era of ODI cricket. The thing is how you score them. And Kohli is from those who scores them too slowly.

He said I've smashed you before. He has done it during the 2013 odi series. And please don't give me the flat track formula like Bilal gives whenever kohli scores, all odi tracks in the world are super flat now. And I don't really understand the difference between Smith scoring runs on flat tracks in Australia and Kohli scoring runs on "flat flat" tracks as you're implying.

I think he wants to say that there is no problem with scoring run on flat tracks in odi as most are doing but Kohli should have scored quicker.Run a ball century don't work on flat decks if you have to win the game.

Kohli the legend. :))

He is the reason Cricket will stay a relevant sport for the next 10 years. :kohli

Yes about every track is flat. But you still have specail flat ones that you know are 400 pitches.

Since pitches have become flat everywhere guys like Williamson, Smith are scoring as much or more than Kohli.

I don't know about the special flat tracks. Atleast the "special flat tracks" aid some spin whereas these tracks don't have swing or turn or bounce. Probably these are supreme flat tracks.

Kohli's big scores since 2015:

2 fifties, and hundred in this series. All were only accumulation.
Vs South Africa : 138 from 140; 77 from 99 (played major role in loosing the match)
World cup vs Pakistan : 107 from 126 : Was nothing more than accumulation.

I very well know that he has been scratchy off late. But you can't take his poor year (by his odi standards) and extrapolate it to his entire career, which is what you were implying.

He's referring to the 2013 series where he scored 50 and 60 ball hundreds and smashed Faulkner. However, I do agree that his batting in ODIs since the last World Cup has not been impactful. He needs to pick up his scoring rate and dominate the bowling more.

Lol at anyone who thinks kohli was responsible for the loss yesterday. When you have a hack of an opener like Dhawan and a poor captain in Dhoni that was always gonna happen .

He has three smashing tons in terms of SR :
2 at home vs Australia in the series we all know about and that one vs Sri Lanka in Hobart in witch india chased 330 in 25 overs.

Vs Australia he scored 100 in 52 balls and india won by 9 wickets in 43.3 overs chasing 360. Bayley scored 92 not out from 50.

Vs Australia he scored 115 from 66 balls and india won chasing 350. Bailey scored 156 from 114.

That were brilliant innings but it's like he was there the only one doing these things in the match.

Apart from these innings the rest of his 21 ODI hundreds were at 105 of SR. Amla score them at a SR of 100 and ABDV score them at 130...

How many for Smithy, Williamson or anyone in the world barring AB?

Kohli hasn't been in great form since that fateful England tour (Australia tests being the exception where was on fire). His ODI scoring hasn't been good but still is able to score decently. He needs a good innings somewhere where he can break free and turn it on...

Sounds funny, didn't watch the match. Just saw video of this altercation between Kohli and Faulkner on Twitter.

Williamson 108 (7 hundreds)
SPD Smith 101.5 (5 hundreds)
Rohit Sharma 113
Root 104 (6 hundreds)

Shahid Afridi 160 :d

Well, that's the case. Most top tier batsmen ( Smith, kane , root and more)in the world would score at the same rate as Kohli does. All these guys have ability to change gears too. You can't call Kohli an accumulator for this reason. Isn't it?

One thing that I find Kohli lacks, is the ability to hit sixes at will. Its one thing lacking in his armoury. A lot of time I have seen him hold out to a deep fielder. While Rohit hits them a good 10-15 rows back. Kohli has the shots, he just needs to add a bit of muscle.

But you gotta love his passion. Playing under a different captain but he was so pumped up after every wicket. It is good to see such passionate cricketers

Tats because of the difference between his bat grip and overhand grip. That is why hi ground shot go like rocket but he is unlikely to find much height. It is noting to do with strength, just tecnique

AB manages to hit them with good force in ground and air. If technique was an issue, I'm sure he'd change his grip in slog overs to get better elevation. He barely clears the fence, even if he does.

But, but, but, Rohit's ground shots also go like "TRACER BULLETS" ...

No, Rohit's shots are more like knife cutting through butter. Gracefully and easy to eyes.

Kohli's shot get you pumped up and are like a slap to bowlers face. If you ask a bowler who he'd like to get hit by? Most of them would choose Rohit.

If you ask a bowler who he'd like to get hit by, he will probably give you the name Kim Kardashian or some other model/film actress etc .

Why would a bowler wish to get hit by Kohli or Rohit?????

If you ask a bowler who he'd like to get hit by? Most of them would choose Rohit.

Now that's indeed a brilliant question. Imagine Johnson at his peak bowling on a hot summer day and these two are the batsmen. Then Kohli comes up and ask him- "Who would you like to get hit by?" Wonder what would MJ reply..
