West Indies have won the toss and will be batting first.

How come this Davon Smith guy makes the WIN squad at 36+, with an average of 24, after 38 Tests? And, he is probably taking Hetmayer's spot, for being a nothing opener.

He has a good domestic season and Windies are desperate to find an opener to partner Kraigg Brathwaite.

Don't know why they don't replace Keiron Powell instead.

I would be really interested in knowing the viewership numbers for this test series.. Can anyone provide a link or numbers?

SRL has a population of like 23mn, WIN probably 2.3 - net net less than the Metro City you live or I used to live; from that you can imagine the number :(

But, I am following it via CI, because, first love dies hard - as a kid, growing in AUS almost every summer I heard about Viv, Mike, GG, Lloyd, Marshall ......... it still chimes in ear.

Damn. Watching this WI must be painful for you. I grew up watching Walsh, Ambrose, Lara, Adams etc. but post 2000 WI has mostly been poor and more importantly on a decline so watching this present outfit doesn't hurt me that much as their is little nostalgia.

Poor from Roston Chase, he needed to stay out there after Hope's dismissal.

Looks like Haturu is cracking the whip with the SL team already.

WI - 153/5 at tea

Likely to get knocked over for a low score as middle order not kicked on.

WI has gone with 5 bowlers (6, including Chase, who should enjoy bowling against 4/5 left-handers in SRL line up) - if they can post 275+ on Day 1 at Queen's Park, unless it rains, they should win here.

Regulation chance for Roshen Silva at slip put down !

Lankan catching has been terrible for a while now.

Why is Holder fishing outside off stump with the second new ball coming up and no more specialist batsmen left ?

These two need to stay till stumps.

I feel, cricket's particularly Test cricket's biggest adversary is ICC it self.

Today, SRL bowled 84 overs in 6:35 hours, with 32 of those by 2 spinners; 4 No balls, 2 wides in total; when they were supposed to finish it in 5:35 hours. Over a 5 day period we are risking a full session lost, that too after 150 minutes extra.

And, we know, there will be absolutely no repercussion - match referee with chop some match fee and may be little demerit points for Chandimal.

Agree with you fully, If 90 overs aren't bowled after the extra 30 minutes two innings in a series, the captain should miss the next test.

I think Sri Lanka are slightly ahead. They have a good batting line up and even if spin is going to play a part they have the batsmen to counter. If West Indies get 300 they will be in charge imo.

Should be a good game. Both teams have some exciting players .

Dowrich and Bishoo showing there are no terrors in this pitch.

I'd be disappointed as a batting team if I didn't make a minimum of 400 here.

Dowrich has been under pressure with some shoddy wicketkeeping and poor batting lately so a hundred here would boost his confidence massively.

Great show of resolve from the West Indies, beautiful partnership here between Dowrich and Bishoo, glad to see one of the batsman to carry on after a start and credit to Bishoo for hanging around

West Indies has become most unattractive place to play cricket. Wkts with no bounce and carry, slow outfielder. Nothing much for bowlers and no fun for batsmen either. Not to mention the rubbish home team.

Fantastic performance by Windies today. I can' see the SL lower order fighting back to anywhere near the first innings total set against them.

There's only one result here now.

Great performance by WI. I hope they go on to win the game. SL have struggled since Murali, they don't have a bowler to trouble teams outside subcontinent.

Dead pitch, this is what's killing test cricket.

I don't understand when pundits talk about these bouncy Caribbean pitches of yesteryear. I wasn't around in the 80s but from all the Caribbean Test summers I've watched I've only seen these slow, low pitches.

The Windies pacers of the 80s and 90s will have taken the pitch out of the equation.

Sri Lanka in dire straits at 43-4.

Makes you frustrated we lost to this lot...

Sunil Gavaskar is explaining the open batting stance, its complications and why that ‘forward press’ is not such a great idea. Anybody watching?

Hope WI gets good experience with this series going forward. Lots of underrated potentials in the side.

Lankan batting has cost them the game. West Indies seem to be making strides as a test team.

Disappointing stuff from Sri Lanka. I never expected them to win this series but I did expect them to put up a fight. This Test is not a lost cause yet but they have to show better application in the second innings with the bat.

SL have been absolutely pathetic.WI to win by 200+ runs the way things are going.Already 360 ahead!

Geez not looking too good the scorecard. Well played to Windies have fought back brilliantly. Let's see if our lot can do the same and at least show some fight.

WI on top.Two weaker and equally matched test teams playing each other and one dominatinating so heavily over another.

Sri Lanka seem to have bowled well in this innings, but the match is lost I'm afraid. It will take a monumental effort to even draw this.

West Indies should declare . They have more than enough runs. If they declare now, Lankans will be confused with what approach to take. Whereas if they delay a declaration, Sri Lanka will just play for the draw.

He has heard us :)

Maybe because of wind .

I wouldn’t be surprised if more people in India are watching this match on their TV than people in WI and SL combined..

Sri Lanka have talanted batsmen. They have found a couple of decent pacers. They will always produce mystery spinners.

Think that they will rise again. They have never done well outside of Asia so I wouldn't read too much into failures their. At home they'll be strong and back competing with the other top teams in icc tournaments.

Mendis is talanted. Sri Lanka should stick with him. He shouldn't be chopped and changed. Same with Dickwella.

West Indies have invested a lot in Bishoo and I think he has been poor for a while.

Can't see SL winning this despite this fight. WI have bowled lots of no balls that haven't been called.

Hathurasingha had moved Mominul from #4 to 3 and he struggled there (before the series vs SL on a flat pitch) and he's now moved Mendis from #3 to opening. Poor decision. Mendis is SL's best batter (along with Chandimal) and they ought to bat 3 and 4. Matthews makes a good 5.

Bishoo is mediocre, doesn't bowl with sufficient control and lacks the speed through the air of a Yasir Shah. How can you average 36 with the ball given he plays at home on these slow, turning WI wickets.

I think Mendis opening is a stop gap - Karunaratne got injured before the series.

Aren't there any other spinners in West Indies? They play on pitches which favour spin so surely there should be someone .

Can't believe that was the SL's Captain .... just got out before Lunch on a silly shot !!!!!!

Sri Lanka require another 231 runs with 3 wickets remaining

Two wickets in the last over before Lunch , has made huge dent in lankans effort.

Terrific Test Match and an outstanding performance from the West Indies, great for the home fans; feels like a millennia since they dominated proceedings in this fashion

Great win for West Indies.

We've seen little bits of progress in the last 2 years with the WI Test team - winning a Test in UAE, winning vs Pakistan in Barbados, winning away to Zimbabwe and beating England at Headingley while running them close at Lord's.

However they need to start winning series, especially at home and this is an ideal opportunity.
