Chanderpaul is like a Rock, One can only imagine how many more runs he would have scored in every innings where he has been not out till the end if only a couple of other batters had supported him.

He would just not get dismissed in any circumstances. If only Marlon Samuels or Ramdin had scored decent fifties , Chanders would have accumulated the same amount of runs from the other end.

None of his partners are competent enough to support him hence he accumulates 10 runs with 5th wicket , 20 runs with 6th wicket , 20 runs with 7 wicket , 10 runs with 8th wicket and so on and gets to a 80 or 90 or ton, but no stable partners

Lately a lot of teams have stopped enforcing the follow on , thus killing all the excitement with implementing something that was available in Test Cricket on rarest of occasions. Lets get rid of this option of Follow on , if modern day team dont need it.

You bat first , then field , then bat again and field again.

No alternative .

It depends on how the team batted, if they scored under 100 and were really struggling then you could enforce the follow on. If the team wanted to rest the bowlers if It took longer, then they can just bat

Pretty disappointed at Roach since I expected a lot from him in these games. He doesn't seen to be the bowler he originally was- before he was casually hitting 140kph and cranking it to 150kph while now he's trundling between 125-35 :nehra.

What target would NZ be looking to set from here and in how many overs would they back their bowlers to bowl out the WI?

Reach 400 target and declare after tea tomorrow ?

Williamson gone , not enforcing the follow on again backfiring for the Kiwis . There is a big chance of them getting bowled out for a low score here.

You have got a lead of 250 + runs , enforce the follow on and try to bowl out the opposition for a cheap score . How much would an already demoralized WI score anyway ? 300-350 at max , then chase down the 100 odd runs.

Unnecessarily complications by NZ.

Look at Williamson , doesnt even know where his off stump is.

Keeps leaving balls and gets bowled.

Indian bowlers don't get tired even after bowling 200 overs and taking 1 wicket

Maybe they should take a lesson or two from their South African counterparts who specialize in ball tampering.

Am sure even my boys can bowl out opposition teams within 20 overs with the help of bottle caps and zippers :faf

It is more about not batting last on a deteriorating pitch... Make sure you understand cricket before commenting.

SO NZ dont want to chase 100 runs batting last on this deteriorating pitch but want to set a target of 400 runs for WI ?

We'll have 4 and a half sessions to bowl them out, it's better not to risk bowler burn out by allowing the WI to bat again. Need to think of the next Test as well.

Thats good , But I'm afraid something similar will happen to first Test against India where NZ didnt enforce a follow on and ended up being 20-4 and 30-5 in the 2nd innings and almost gifted the game to India from a dominating position.

What chance do WI have of chasing 400+?

Even if we do get rolled, we'll still have enough runs to win.

Even a Draw for WI would be a loss for NZ from hereon , remember the match against England with Prior special.

You are right, it must be faf's zipper that causes India to lose every test / odi series played outside India.

Surprised some think they should have made them follow on, first test of the series on a pitch like this and it's still day 3 cmon you bat again every time.

Obviously some neutrals will say things like bowl again because they don't care if WI make 420 and the kiwis get rolled batting last on an increasingly difficult deck but if this was their team i would say they would be happy with the way things have turned out and that they don't have to bat last.

Plus you may as well give Fulton a bat so you can drop him for good

This is the typical Kiwi 3rd innings collapse in motion, folks.

Lucky we have a good lead.

Kiwis need to get lead up to 400 as quickly as possible and then should win game from here, W.I have been a joke in this test match!

The kiwis should abandon their tik tuk strategy and go slam bang today
Get about 150 runs as quickly as u can(max 1.5 sessions) and have a good crack at them before tea

Interesting test match. Think crowd will be good for west indies batting tomorrow.

would be great if NZ get bowled out for sub 100 and then Gayle hits a superb 100 to win a 300 chase- that would be the perfect 100th test.
As for Windies, if Roach can gain full fitness, this new ball pair can be great tbf

Well Danny Morrison loves this form of the game. Looks like his fans will have to love it to. This is the same guy who just came from a fresh IPL stint.

Yes , but kiwis will get more . Do not see WI chasing 300.

admit this :(. This Windies team, I can see a future with this type of team...Taylor/Roach, Benn/Shillingford...the batting is a concern but if either Chanderpaul, Gayle or Bravo clicks, then Windies are fine- thats why I want them to do good cos they're for once putting in an effort.

I must say that West Indies has a great attack. They are making the batsmen really work for there runs. If only there batting was a little good as there bowling. They would be in a great position in this test right now.

Nothing compared to when it involves Ind-Pak, Aus-Eng which is more than 10 times PP crowd compared to NZ-West. Check previous match threads.

I think people care more about big teams then actual quality cricket. NZ may not be as appealing cricket team but they have there fair share of stars. I honestly like them because they look to be a very hard working unit. NZ vs West Indies has a decent quality cricket, if not better then those you have mentioned.

Declared with a lead of 402. Craig hits the first ball of his career for a six!

Why the hell is Chanders batting so low?
There's an ocean between him and the next best person in the team, get him at #3!

:))

Great partnership. Shame about the rest, but at least there's some smiles in the crowd.
