PUNJAB:
Punjab Assembly Speaker and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday rang alarm bells for Imran Khan, saying that the prime minister was “100%” in trouble because of the no-confidence motion against him.

In an interview with a private news channel, the PML-Q leader – a major ally of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the Centre and in Punjab – criticised the prime minister, saying that he had a desire for revenge, which was not the way to govern.

“Imran Khan is 100% in trouble, as all allies are on the opposition side,” Elahi said. “The government 100% lacks wisdom and understanding. The prime minister has a great desire for revenge, which ios evident from the fact that he puts everyone in NAB [National Accountability Bureau]. There are no such ways to govern,” he added.

Elahi said that when Moonis Elahi delivered his speech, “we started receiving threats from NAB”. “There are a lot of inexperience people among the rulers,” he said. “They should have learned first. If they come down, they would learn,” he added. “The government is under threat from its own people.”

Elahi termed the opposition alliance among the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) “strong and lasting”, saying: “When opponents are united against one person, bitterness among them is forgotten.”

The Punjab Assembly speaker backed the opposition’s claim that it had more votes than the number required for the success of the no-confidence motion. “The opposition is right to say that they have more people. And ‘surprises’ have yet to come,” the former Punjab chief minister said.

Coming back to the government, Elahi said that there was a remarkable number of ineptitude people among the ruling elite. “They take politics as a game,” he said, adding that Prime Minister Imran was “too late” now because the cracks in the ruling coalition had widened.

Elahi said the government should not pass on the blame of its incompetence to any external conspiracy. If the opposition joined ranks and came together to go after him, the prime minister would not be able to stop them.

“Our strategy is to wait and see,” the Punjab Assembly speaker told the interviewer, when asked about the PML-Q’s strategy in the wake of the joint opposition’s no-confidence motion filed against the prime minister on March 8.

He stressed that the PML-Q could not “do it alone”. He said that before taking any decision, the party would consult the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) – another ally of the prime minister – and Asif Ali Zardari, the co-chairman of the PPP.

“Asif Zardari will be the guarantor if our arrangements are finalised [with the opposition],” Elahi said in the interview. “Asif Zardari has assured that if this does not happen, he will also get away from this matter,” he said, without elaborating.

When asked about the PML-N, a major component of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), the speaker said that the main opposition party was in full command of its Quaid and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. “Whatever, he says the Nawaz League follows.”

Punjab CM

When pressed on reports that he wanted the chief ministership of Punjab for himself, Elahi said that the PML-Q wanted to make up for inefficiencies of the incumbent government. “If we get the chief ministership, we will make up for the inefficiencies of the PTI,” he said.

“If I become the chief minister, I will fulfil all my promises and not betray anyone,” he added. Pressing further on the issue, he stressed that even if the no-confidence motion against the prime minister was successful, the provincial assemblies would continue to function.

The PML-Q leader revealed that PM Imran had offered the PML-Q to merge with the PTI. He also said that Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid was still fond of Prime Minister Imran, therefore, he had forgot the closeness with the Chaudhry brothers.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday threw down the gauntlet to the opposition parties, economists, and media by challenging them to a debate to compare the performance of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with that of the previous governments, saying that no party served Pakistan like the PTI did.

While welcoming the challenge, the opposition parties have accepted the challenge for a debate at D-Chowk but asked the prime minister to visit Rawalpindi’s Raja Bazaar if he wanted to get an honest view of his government’s performance, saying “the public is the best judge”.

Two former premiers, PML-N’s Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and PPP’s Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, reminded PM Imran that the proper place to have such a debate was inside parliament, which, as Ashraf put it, was never properly run in the last three-and-a-half years and, Abbasi said, could still be used to explain the position on the no-trust motion filed against the premier.

“He [PM] can join the debate in parliament on the no-confidence move and explain his position,” Abbasi said. “We accept the challenge and are ready for a formal debate at D-Chowk.”

Former PM Ashraf said, “We have debated inside and outside parliament and we are still ready but I think it’s time for him to go now.”

Ashraf asked the PM to visit Raja Bazaar and take the common people’s view about inflation, unemployment, rate of potatoes, tomatoes and other food items, the difficulties that they face in paying utility and medical bills as well as fee, among other things.

“If the performance was so good, there would not have been the need to tell the people about it every day,” Ashraf said, adding that these offers of debate and threats to gather people at D-Chowk were nothing but the thoughts of a man losing the battle.

Meanwhile, renowned journalist, Hamid Mir, also accepted the challenge and offered holding a live interview of PM Imran along with PML-N President and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari at D-Chowk.

Mir while welcoming the offer said: “I am ready to do a live interview with Imran Khan and if the premier wants he could invite Shehbaz or Bilawal with him.

He said that if PM Imran was not ready to face the opposition leaders then he was ready to do an interview with him alone.

“I will only ask questions with facts about the economy; facts and figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan,” Mir said. “If he is ready, I can do this show at D-Chowk. I accept the challenge.”

The offer to have a formal debate has come at a time of extreme political polarisation amid calls from politicians and religious scholars to lower the rhetoric and avoid resorting to name-calling and use of inappropriate language.

Surprisingly, the premier’s challenge of debate over performance has come on the heels of him sacking and replacing his economic czars multiple times in the past three years on account of him not being satisfied with their performance.

The first one to go home was none other than PTI stalwart Asad Umar. In April 2019, Umar was sacked. Hours after being shown the door, Umar had reportedly admitted that he was removed by PM because of his “performance” at the post.

Since 2018, the premier has reshuffled the federal cabinet on a number of occasions. The frequent reshuffles have taken place against a backdrop of declining popularity of the ruling party because people have been expressing their disapproval with the government’s economic policies since it came to power.

Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) President Ahmed Bilal Mehboob said, “It is a very good idea but I doubt they would ever agree to a properly planned debate.”

Amid rising political temperature in the country, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday suggested forming a national government for the next five years.

However, he proposed, that the current ruling party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), should have no role in it.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Shehbaz, who is also president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), said that the national government, in a coordinated effort, should serve Pakistan for the next five years.

"In my opinion, we should form a national government without the PTI which should serve the country with all honesty and hard work for the next five years," he added.

The opposition stalwart also said that a direction would then be given and further decisions about the country can be taken afterwards keeping the situation in mind at that time.

He said that it will take many years of sincere effort for eliminating the "venom spread by the PTI".

"I think we will have nothing to with Imran Khan's PTI," he added.

To a question about alleged horse-trading by opposition parties, Shehbaz did not deny the claims and replied with a countering question that why planes were transporting members of national and provincial assemblies to Bani Gala a few years earlier?

"If there is money involved then you can take me to the task but if someone [switches sides] out of his conscious then it is our constitutional right [to accept him]," he added.

This is not the first time Shehbaz had floated the idea of forming a national government. In August last year, he had proposed a similar plan, saying no single party is capable of steering the country out of a myriad of problems facing the nation.

The opposition leader went on to say that if given a chance, his party would establish a national government, stressing that all political parties must be given “an equal chance and a level-playing field in the elections to form a people’s government”.

Spring for the people on its way'

Shehbaz said that the "season of spring" is about to begin for the people of Pakistan and no matter how many hurdles PM Imran creates, “defeat is in his destiny”.

"It is not my or any other political leaders wish... it is the wish of 220 million people of this country who are in great misery and we took this decision [submitting no-confidence motion] after witnessing the condition of our people."

He revealed that there are two schools of thought about the idea of bringing a no-trust vote in the lower house of parliament within the PML-N but the consensus was made when the party leaders saw the condition of the masses.

"When we saw people from Karachi to Peshawar being affected [by the policies of the PTI government] we took this decision unanimously. The PTI members of assemblies are not being able to connect with people and if had not taken this decision, our members would also not have been able to interact with the people," he said.

He further said that Imran Khan used to say that if the government raises the prices of petroleum products and increases taxes it means that the prime minister is a thief but the current government is involved in both these practices.

"Even if you had brought back $2 billion instead of $200 billion, I would have appreciated that you have done a great service to this country," he lamented the premier for taking many U-turns since coming into power.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Wednesday said that 'imminent failure' of no-trust motion would prove to be a fatal blow for the opposition and would draw curtains on its leaders' politics once and for all.

"We will lock them like pigeons are locked in a cage," Fawad said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad along with Planning Minister Asad Umar and other PTI leaders.

He said that politics was not for the faint-hearted, adding that the opposition parties have established a market of mules and donkeys in Sindh. "Javed Latif (a leader of PML-N) himself had admitted that they (the opposition) were doing horse-trading. We are ready for everything," he added.

Criticising PDM head and JUI-F Amir Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Fawad dared the senior politician to organise even a single public gathering similar to those held by Prime Minister Imran Khan recently.

The information minister claimed that Imran Khan's popularity during the past two weeks had increased. "The people are standing with Imran Khan and even a survey has confirmed this," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Asad Umar said that PTI was going to organise a historic public rally on the call of PM Imran on March 27 in Islamabad.

He said that seven organisational committees have been formed with the directions to immediately begin a mass public mobilisation campaign in every nook and corner of Pakistan.

Asad said that PTI’s provincial presidents have been directed to formulate committees at the districts level. He said that all party organisations have been instructed to start mass mobilisation to participate in the “mammoth public rally” to express solidarity with Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, Energy Minister Hammad Azhar also fired a broadside on the opposition, lambasting its political leader over social media.

"One day they (opposition) demand resignation [from PM Imran], and on the other they desire immediate elections. At times they emphasise on a no-confidence motion and at others, they dream a national government or NRO... the opposition is getting more panicked with each passing day," he wrote on his official Twitter handle.

Seeing the outpouring of public support for IK, if the no confidence succeeds then it'll help IK land 2/3rd majority in the next elections. Every Pakistani knows this is a foreign sponsored move and even those people who had become disgruntled with IK and PTI are coming out in support.

Lose lose situation for chor dakus. The only way out for them now is to purposefully lose the no confidence that way they can campaign until 2023 and sell the 'mehngayi' mantra. If the no confidence succeeds IK will sell the foreign sazish and gain 2/3rd inshallah. The foreign sazish aspect is already gaining strength amongst the people.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that it was the responsibility of the entire nation to come out of their homes and stand with the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in Islamabad on March 27, against “the three thieves” to tell the world that they are against the “hypocrites and the allies of the United States”.

The PM also said his happiness knew no bounds, as no other politician, not even Maulana Fazlur Rehman who claims to be champion of Islam, could ever speak against Islamophobia, while the United Nations adopted a resolution on combating Islamophobia and designated March 15 as the International Day against Islamophobia due to his own efforts.

The premier expressed these views while addressing a huge gathering in a Saidu Sharif ground. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Senator Faisal Javed, Minister for Communications Murad Saeed and all lawmakers from Swat.

PM Khan said that neither the Maulana nor any prime minister in the past could ever speak against Islamophobia, because they all were allegedly the “slaves of the west”.

“It was I, who for the first time raised the issue in the OIC meeting and asked all the Muslim countries to stand united against Islamophobia. I kept continuing my efforts and spoke against Islamophobia in my speech in the United Nations,” he said, adding that the entire Muslim world was congratulating him for the landmark deed.

This was the first landmark achievement in this regard after the declaration of the Ahmadis as a religious minority in the Constitution, 1973, Mr Khan said.

He said the ‘three thieves’ looted the country with both hands and were making all-out efforts to eliminate the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) because they were afraid of the corruption proceedings against them. “They are sitting in Sindh House with a heap of money to buy the MPs. They are trying to buy the conscience of the elected representatives by the unconstitutional act of horse-trading,” the PM said, asking the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to take action against the alleged horse-trading.

He said the PTI not only saved the country from coronavirus but also saved its economy. “With our wise policies and decisions during the Covid-19, we surprised the world and now every country acknowledges our policies,” he said.

He also recalled the government achievement of record tax collection with the result that that he lowered the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs10 and power tariff by Rs5 per unit at a time when many countries were facing record inflation.

Also, “it is due to our good policies in agriculture and IT field, the farmers and youth earned record high money and we are ahead of the thieves in every sector,” Mr Khan said, asking the youth of Swat to vote for bat in the local government elections.

Earlier, CM Mahmood Khan welcomed Mr Khan to Swat and thanked the huge gathering for welcoming the prime minister with zest and zeal. Minister Saeed also addressed the gathering.

D-Chowk gathering
Meanwhile, sticking to its decision to hold a “mammoth” public meeting at D-Chowk here on March 27, the government formed a high-level committee to finalise the arrangements and submitted a formal application to seek NOC from the local administration to hold the rally at the same venue where PTI had staged the country’s longest sit-in against the PML-N government.

The decision to form the 30-member core management committee was taken at high-level meeting presided over by Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, said a press release.

Three PTI leaders — Shehbaz Gill, Kanwal Shauzab and Zahid Hussain Kazmi — submitted an application with Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad Hamza Shafqaat, seeking an NOC for holding the public meeting at D-Chowk. “We are here to submit our application so get NOC for holding Jalsa,” said Shehbaz Gill while presenting the application to the deputy commissioner.

The deputy commissioner accepted the application and told the applicants: “We have received your application and will issue NOC in 48 hours after receiving reports from the quarters concerned.”

Following submission of the application, the three PTI leaders held a press conference outside the DC Office, giving reasons for holding the public meeting despite having the required number of votes in the assembly to defeat the opposition’s motion against the prime minister.

Mr Gill said the opposition could also hold its Jalsa in Islamabad, but not at the same venue [D-Chowk]. Asked if government MNAs would attend the no-confidence session, he said: “It is yet to be decided by the party leadership.”

PTI govt planning 'assault' on Sindh House, alleges PPP

The Pakistan Peoples Party on Thursday alleged that the PTI-led government was planning an 'assault' on Sindh House in the federal capital, a day after Prime Minister Imran Khan said the opposition was present at the premises with ‘bags full of money’ to ‘buy loyalties of government lawmakers’.

The accusations were made in a joint statement by PPP MNAs Abdul Qadir Patel, Abdul Qadir Mandokhel, Abid Hussain Bhayo, Javed Shah Jilani, Ehsan Mazari, Naveed Dero and Mehreen Bhutto.

“After the brutal incident of Parliament Lodges, the government is now preparing to attack Sindh House,” the statement read, adding that PM Imran’s government is bent on 'carrying out terrorism'.

Intensifying speculation and giving no definite answer, PML-Q leader Pervez Elahi earlier confirmed horse-trading by the opposition, saying that around 10-12 government lawmakers were in the “safe custody” of the opposition.

“We have tracked them down; they are in the opposition’s safe custody. The government is actually more concerned about them. The ones who they looked forward to [for support] have stated they are now neutral. No friendly country or institution will come near this matter,” Elahi had claimed.

The PPP’s joint statement further requested the Sindh government to provide them accommodation and security in the Sindh House as their lives were not safe after the ‘terror incident’ that took place at the Parliament Lodges in Islamabad’.

“We demand the protection of the Sindh Police which is our constitutional right,” the statement said. “We have information that Islamabad Police and Imran Khan’s personal thugs, Tiger Force, are planning an attack on Sindh House.”

The statement added that PM’s government would be responsible for violating the Constitution if the property of the Sindh House was damaged or any MNA was harmed.

However, in a talk with the media earlier today, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid dismissed the PPP’s claims and said ‘no action’ was being planned against Sindh House.

“We are not taking any action against anyone right now. There are some people in Sindh House and they have deployed around 400 policemen, but no problem. There are many days
.”

'Sindh house hub of horse-trading'

Speaking to the media later in the afternoon, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the Sindh House has become a hub of horse-trading, where members were 'placing bids' and strict action was being planned against it.

The minister, referring to Pakistan's significantly young population, said PTI cannot hand over the future of the youth to 'thieves and robbers'.

“We will never allow our country to be handed over to bandits and thieves,” he said. “At present, the centre of horse-trading is Sindh House where members are bidding."

He further added that there were reports that certain lawmakers were staying at the premises and large sums of money were changing hands.

"The police has been called and we are planning strong action against horse-trading".

PTI's lawmaker from Karachi and Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi, in a letter to secretary Establishment Division, said 400 SSU commandoes of the Sindh Police have been deployed to Sindh House.

"The Police Service of Pakistan is meant for provision of protection and safeguard of citizens of Pakistan without any political affiliation."

Urging the secretary to initiate an 'immediate' inquiry under E&D Rules against DIG Maqsood Memon, Zaidi said this was a 'glaring violation'.

He further asked the secretary to personally intervene in this situation and conduct the inquiry.

On Wednesday, the prime minister urged the people to reach Islamabad’s D-Chowk on March 27 – a day ahead of the no-confidence motion – to show that they stand with the “truth” and against the “slaves of America”.

Earlier this week, the PTI had announced that it would hold a “massive power show” at Islamabad’s D-Chowk on March 27 and pull out one million people to the streets to “express confidence in their leader [PM Imran]”. The ruling party is expected to give a plan of action on opposition's no-confidence motion, which it believes would fail.

Qureshi speaks highly of allies as no-trust move nears

ISLAMABAD:
Speaking highly of government allies on Thursday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the Chaudhry brothers were principled in their politics and will make the right decision at the right time.

He also thanked the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for having the ruling party's back for the past three years, terming the party a respected ally.

Lamenting the role of some MNAs, the foreign minister said those who have decided to sell their vote cannot be stopped from selling their conscience.

"Every elected member cares about their voters," he said, adding that the party respected all its elected members as they represented millions of people.

According to Qureshi, never in the history of the country had democracy been damaged the way it was being today.

"The opposition neither has a uniform ideology, agenda or flag. They are working on a single-point agenda, that is removing Prime Minister Irman Khan," the foreign minister said.

He accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of harming democracy despite presenting itself as the "champion of democracy". "Bilawal is still a child and does not understand a lot of things," he said.

Qureshi added that prime minister was meeting everyone including his allies.

Regarding the United Nation's declaring March 15 as the International Day Against Islamophobia, the foreign minister said that it was a feat achieved due to PM Imran's efforts.

Qureshi thanked the premier for acknowledging ambassador Munir Akram and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' efforts in this regard.

'Horse-trading'

A day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan lashed out at the opposition parties, saying their leaders were sitting in Islamabad’s Sindh House with “bags full of money” to “buy the loyalties of government lawmakers” and urged the people to reach Islamabad’s D-Chowk on March 27 – a day ahead of the no-confidence motion – to show that they stand with the “truth” and against the “slaves of America”.

The premier made these remarks while addressing a public gathering in Saidu Sharif, Swat.

At least four dissident MNAs from the ruling PTI, who are staying at the Sindh House in Islamabad, came out in the open on Thursday, with Raja Riaz and Malik Nawab Sher Waseer saying they would vote on the no-confidence motion tabled against Prime Minister Imran Khan in "accordance with their conscience".

TV footage showed several other lawmakers from the ruling PTI — including MNAs Noor Alam Khan and Basit Bukhari — staying at the facility, giving a clear indication which side they were tilting towards in the upcoming vote that will decide the fate of the prime minister.

Riaz, who is a member of the Jahangir Tareen group, spoke to Geo News senior anchor Hamid Mir and said there were around 24 PTI lawmakers staying at the Sindh House, citing fears of government action against them similar to the March 10 raid by police on Parliament Lodges.

He further said that if PM Imran gave the guarantee that no police action would be taken against the MNAs irrespective of their decision regarding the vote, he was ready to move to Parliament Lodges from the Sindh House.

"All of the media and the nation knows that the police attacked the lodges and our opposition MNA was tortured and taken to the police station. After that, we — those who had been dissenting for a long time against inflation, corruption, the SAPMs and the lawlessness, and had been raising our voice in front of Khan sahab — felt that the incident that happened in the Lodges could also happen with us, and this is why we are here," Riaz told Samaa News anchor Nadeem Malik.

"No one has given us any money. God willing, we will give our vote based on our conscience. We are not afraid of anyone. We are here only as a precautionary measure.

Last month, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry alleged that three PTI MNAs had been offered bribes to support the opposition's planned no-confidence motion in the parliament.

When asked if he had taken Rs200 million to switch allegiance, Riaz chuckled and replied: "I cannot think of accepting even a rupee."

Another PTI MNA, Noor Alam Khan, said that he was "very disappointed" to know of allegations being levelled against dissident lawmakers. "When we came to Imran Khan sahab and had voted for him, were we given Rs200m then? When we voted for the speaker did we get 200m then?"

He appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan, chief justice of Islamabad High Court, chief election commissioner and the Islamabad district administration to ensure that every MNA, irrespective of who he wants to vote for, is provided protection to reach the National Assembly for the no-confidence vote.

When asked whether he would go the parliament on the day of voting, he replied, "Definitely. It is my right."

A fourth PTI MNA who was at Sindh House and aired his grievances against the party was Basit Bukhari.

Meanwhile, MNA Malik Nawab Sher Waseer, while speaking to senior anchor Hamid Mir, said he would not contest the next general elections on a PTI ticket.

A day earlier, the government claimed the opposition had detained some ruling party lawmakers at Sindh House ahead of the vote after a statement by Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Parvez Elahi that around a dozen MNAs belonging to the PTI had 'gone missing'.

The premier said in a public address on Wednesday that opposition leaders were sitting in Sindh House with "heaps of money" to purchase loyalties of treasury lawmakers and had asked the election commission to take action against the alleged horse-trading.

PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi had earlier confirmed the stay of some lawmakers at Sindh House during a press conference with PPP MNA Shazia Marri. "Every member has a right to stay there. These members are from the opposition and our allies," he had said, adding that MNAs had been kept there as they feared they could be kidnapped ahead of the no-trust vote.

Govt planning 'strong action'
Earlier today, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the government was "planning strong action" against alleged horse-trading and detention of MNAs at Sindh House.

In a video shared by the PTI on Twitter, he said the government has received information that a large amount of money had been shifted to Sindh House, which he termed the "capital of horse-trading at the moment".

"Information has been received that a lot of money has been shifted to Sindh House, police have been called to detain people and it is the horse-trading capital right now. It is very unfortunate. We had gotten rid of this menace with great difficulty.

"The way marketplaces have been set up is against the Constitution and tantamount to playing with the country's future. This is why we are planning strong action on this," the minister said.

However, Chaudhry's statement contradicted Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid who said the government is "not taking any action against anyone right now".

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad earlier on Thursday, Chaudhry also claimed that lawmakers' votes were being bought and sold at Sindh House.

"The kind of bidding that is happening, the way conscience is being sold ... I tell these people to beware of the time that [Prime Minister] Imran Khan calls on us and youngsters to stop the horse-trading ourselves," he added.

MNAs being 'threatened'
Meanwhile, PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari claimed that MNAs had been "threatened with violence, arrests and dire consequences" if they participated in the no-confidence vote.

"Their lives, liberty and family are under threat. MNAs will take any and all means for their own protection against this fascist regime," he said, vowing that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and the PPP would protect the lawmakers.

Bilawal said the opposition did "not want anarchy" in Islamabad in view of the upcoming meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) foreign ministers meeting next week, warning the government to "not provoke us".

Next elections whenever they happen will be rigged and PTI will not have much say outside of KPK and maybe some urban centers here and there. Interior Sindh is PPP for sure, Central Punjab is Noon, Southern Punjab is Tareen territory and Balochistan is JUI or whichever party establishment cooks up. I don't see IKs future as a politician anymore but he may become a popular choice of the people once he's ousted (ala Tahirul Qadri) but he has no future in this system. It's a personal opinion and ofc it can be totally wrong.

The only thing that I don't get is why couldn't they oust him in the first year or how did he even form the government when it's so easy to buy MNAs and their loyalties.

I am really enjoying the fact that pti mnas have lost trust in the pm.

dirty politics at its peak. The mafias are too strong. Khan is up against a high tide but they can plan all they want. In the end, truth and honestly will prevail. May be our qaum deserves a Maryam or Zardari.

And no one has threaten them, if so you can provide any kinda proofs, but whenever you are asked for proofs you run away ;) you will do the same now.

PTI hasnt asked ISI or whatsoever to check on them, you are just as usual making news by your self.

MNAs right to vote to whomever they want? Ammhh, ever heard of Horse Trading? Which is illegal, against the rules and it will lead them to disqualification very easily.

So laugh for 5 seconds ;) legal process has already been started dumbo.

Is floor crossing allowed? If not then they are breaking the law? and if they are breaking the law and the vote wont count. The govt needs to stop stolen money being used to bribe MNAs. Firstly, governors rule in Sindh, and then arrest AZ and all PPP members that are out on bail. These ******** need to be taught a lesson.

Floor crossing isnt allowed- MNAs dont have the right to right to vote for whoever they want. This was a law passed by the Nooras and PPP.

Legal action has already started. Hopefully they will be DQ by the head.

And now some Einstein here will claim that if IK do this, he will loss the majority.

So, for those brilliant minds, they should know that, re-elections will be held before voting and pretty sure PTI will win all those seats.

Whoever cheated PTI in the past, has never won any elections. Take example of Hashmi, 20 people from KPK e.t.c

Interesting time coming ahead and btw yesterdy beloved Showbaz once again said that IK shouldnt have said Absolutely Not to our western friends :)))

The ECP will back the mafia, the courts as we know are amongst the most corrupt in the World. I think IK will be in opposition by the end of the month. It will give him a chance to get rid of the crooks in his own party and IA he will win again. Lets see the mafia rule a country of 220mn when they all want a piece of the loot.

Some are now supporting 'Horse Trading" - lol

The so called educated pseudo-liberal and promoter of pseudo-democracy will support any form of corruption as long as it support them while cursing others when they are corrupt.

Hours after several dissenting MNAs of the PTI were found staying at Sindh House in a clear indication that they would go against their party in the upcoming no-trust move, a trio of key government ministers held a press conference in Islamabad, saying that Prime Minister Imran Khan could also throw money at opposition lawmakers but would not do so as he does not stand for "politics of blackmailing and bribery".

"Imran Khan does not do politics for himself but for the nation," said Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar as Energy Minister Hammad Azhar and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry sat by his side. "There is no personal interest of his and that is why he neither blackmails anyone nor gets blackmailed."

"He has never done this sort of politics and will never do it in the future. Nobody should have any doubt that PTI will fight till the end but the only difference is that what we will do will be within the ambit of law and Constitution.

"We will not do any thing illegal," he added.

"The entire nation is seeing that they (the opposition) only use the name of democracy under the garb of which they mean to do business."

Energy Minister Hammad Azhar said: "The nation saw that this is the system against which Imran Khan took a stand. This is the system of horse trading, bribery, and auctions to the tune of 200m and 400m.

"We want to make it clear that we will not do any deals and will not disburse ministries to stay in power. We will remain engaged with our allies but there will be no wheeling and dealing."

Earlier in the day, dissenting PTI MNAs Raja Riaz and Malik Nawab Sher Waseer had said that they would vote on the no-confidence motion tabled against Prime Minister Imran Khan in "accordance with their conscience".

Commenting on that remark, Azhar said: "This is not the voice of their conscience but [rather the voice of] money."

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the PTI rejected the politics of "blackmailing and wheeling dealing because of the promise we made to our people".

"This is the business model of Zardari: invest, come in government and take money."

The minister said this was the kind of politics that "we say in the 90s, which was the era of darkness".

"Now it is obligatory upon the people to reject this darkness and rise in support of Imran Khan." he added.

"Our workers are angry. I ask them not to take law into their hands but protest is your right.'"

He said his party has already initiated legal proceedings on the matter, saying that "as per Article 63 (A) (1), if a party leader comes to a conclusion that a member of his party has defected, then he can move a reference for their disqualification."

"After the videos, there is no doubt that they have left the party," added Umar.

When asked about a dissident PTI MNA, Dr Ramesh Kumar, claiming that three federal ministers had left the party, Umar expressed ignorance and said "only Dr Kumar has received this news".

Following that, a reporter pointed out that most of the dissident lawmakers in the PTI were those who had left their parties to join it.

To that, Umar agreed that it was the case broadly. But, he addedd, there were many members "who had joinedthe PTI after leaving other parties and they are still standing strong with Imran Khan".

"So we cannot say that everyone who joins the PTI after leaving a party is wrong," the minister added. On the matter of giving party tickets, party workers should be prioritsied in most cases.

On changes in the federal cabinet, he said the changes could be made if the prime minister believed that it would improve the government's performance.

In this connection, he clarified that the government intended to induct more members from allied parties in the cabinet and had discussed this with the allies.

The process was interrupted after the filing of the no-confidence motion, he said, adding, "I want to make this clear that none of the allies has made any demand [for ministries] yet."

He further said that the opposition was in contact with PTI lawmakers but refused to take any names.

Near the press conference's end, Azhar commented that the "match has entered interesting overs".

"The captain's innings is about to start ... don't draw any conclusions yet," he said.

What is the army’s take here?

If I have to believe the more common narrative then Imran was selected by army

I hear from Imran supporters that he won with one of the biggest mandates in Pakistan history.

What’s going on? I thought Indian politics was a mess and complicated lol.

Any neutral assessment of this situation

Army is pretending that they are neutral. However, i do not think they are.
I believe they gave signals to opposition to come together against this government.
Reason one is that they have used IK now they want to get rid of him. They did not let IK fulfill any of his promises. Instead force him to go to IMF etc.
Second reason is that IK now wants to rule army as well. Which they do not like.
What i believe if IK gets removed then IK will come hard on Army and this time it would be directly. Right now he is attacking here and there indirectly.

No chance of winning the no-confidence vote.

Time for IK to act like a dictator by getting rid of the opposition. Get some dirt on Bajwa, and get rid of the country’s constitution.

It's all halal for him. The constitution only matters to him when it's helping the crooks. When IK plays by the rules it's seen as a weakness.

I think he should sit in opposition. Politics is dictated by events, let's see the crooks try to rule a country of 220mn with the only agenda being that their cases be dropped. The irony is thar 90% of The cases were started by the crooks them against each other

There is still a long way to go in this drama. Parliament is not that powerful to overthrow/change a govt in Pakistan on its own. Other powerful institutions (supreme court & GHQ) will have their own role in this drama. Both have not made any appearance in the opening episodes.

IK should first admit his mistakes during this tenure & then learn from them. He should watch recording of his 2011 Lahore Jalsa & do a retrospective of his actions in that context. Revamp the party & give tickets to young educated middle class. I still believe if he acts on the promises made during that speech then he will win atleast simple majority but ppl around him will make him believe he can't win without them. If he continues traditional style of politics then he will stand in the same line as of NS & Zardari in history books.

Keep an eye on supreme court to know what army wants here. Army has been controlling politics through judiciary in recent years. In my opinion, PTI has only 1 or 2 cards left to play.
1. IK resigns and goes back to public and fights his case there. He may become a hero and succeeds not only retaining his vote bank but may also boosts it significantly.
2. Constitution vaguely allows national assembly speaker to adjourn assembly session indefinitely. Session is likely to be called on 21st march. There will be a prayer ceremony for the passed away member & session adjourned indefinitely.

I believe 2nd scenario is most likely to happen. Opposition will have no other option except going to supreme court in that case. That's where army will decide what to do next based on the positions of both govt & opposition. Army is basically waiting for the parties to turn to supreme court by themselves.

What i think Marshal Law is coming. I think Army will take over after all this mess. For the last few years they have collected enough money to survive.

It's the public that has affections for the family parties in constituencies and that forces people like IK to tamper his politics. You can't do anything by being in opposition forever. Lets see all the thugs rule PK when looting and getting their cases thrown out is their only concern. Just imagine if SS, NS or AZ have to ask Pakistanis to make sacrifices, pay more taxes, fight corruption or bring reforms. Never mind these guys representing PK on the international stage. PK will survive, its in our destiny but it will be a rocky road.
I am expecting the opposition to cut all prices of all all essentials straight away, petrol must be cut straight away and electricity must also be cut. Afterall this is what they have promised, haven't they?

Do you mean the SC that Isa go scot free? A SC that put judges above the law.

What i think Marshal Law is coming. I think Army will take over after all this mess. For the last few years they have collected enough money to survive.

Army is assessing the situation and will continue to do so for next few weeks. Martial law is not the likely option right now i guess. Only COAS can impose martial law. He has only 6 months of his service remaining & will not get the required support from within Army.

Do you mean the SC that Isa go scot free? A SC that put judges above the law.

Or it could be the SC that ousted NS :). I did not comment on what their verdict will be. I only said matters would be decided in supreme court on the directions from GHQ. They won't allow parliament to decide its fate on its own.

Those judges that had courage have gone. The SC isnt taking dicatations from GHQ- they are scared of the mafia. Look at the spineless Isa decision, a decision that makes the mind boggles. A judge has properties abroad, admits to them, cant provide a money trail and then is allowed to hide behind technicalities, and the SC says you are above the law.

Also there is a difference between horse trading and an MNA not happy with his pm and voting against him.

If horse trading is proven, than action should be taken agaisnst that MNA as its against the constitution, but remember one thing. If your mna has lost trust in you and genuinely votes against you without any bribes, that is not horse trading.

nope.

problem is our economy was handed over to the army which they have destroyed.

Second, all the bills passed were done by ordinances that a president can only do when in emergency. There was no discussion going on in parliament and thus the people have lost confidence in the PM.

The general public is hating on the pm right now, thus the mna will vote accordingly.

The final nail in the coffin was when the govt arrested mnas were the lodges. In the past, i have seen many times people going to the lodges to meet mnas. Now the govt doesnt like it

Thanks. This sounds almost similar to what happened in Indian politics in the 90’s when Vajpayee government fell after a few days the first time he became PM due to similar political horse-trading.

nope.

problem is our economy was handed over to the army which they have destroyed.

Which People have lost confidence in IK? IK will win the elections and will win well. And what do you mean the general public? Who supports AZ and Billo? What have they done in15 years in Sindh? Give us some achievements in Sindh? And have you seen these criminals in parliament and their Randi Rona about their cases when we discussed FATF or have you forgotten? Major Sahib, your hypocrisy stinks, you have shown yourself to be a mafia apologist. And dont celebrate too quickly there is a week to go. I wouldnt be surprised that some Nooras and PPP dont turn up.

Nope. Disagree with this part. This is straight out of Indian political playbook and I can probably proudly say and even post this in proud to be an Indian thread but we practically invented this kind of stuff :)

lol, plz bring proof of bilalwal being corrupt.

Just because your favourite isnt voted doesnt mean the country is being destoryed.

You asked me to prove proof BBs corruption and i showed a property they owned in Surrey, they couldnt provide the money trail, and they denied owning it. So the forum is yours to tell us where the money came from.

Is it allowed or not? If it is allowed then what is the spirit of the constitutional amendment? If it is allowed then why was it passed?

The election depends upon the govt set up that comes in after the vote of no confidence succeeds.

Pmln amd ppp would be interested in getting ministires and be able to do much as they can in the 1.5 years time so that they could get re elected in the general election.

You have to prove someone to be corrupt by the court. Anyone can come up with anything and write it here.

Benazir was never convicted for corruption even during the timr her enemies ruled the govt, and bilalwal corruption case do they exists?

The momentum is Kaptaan. He is fighting for PK and you guys are basically doing CIAs bidding? Kaptaan has shown his strategy, the Americans better have something good for you guys. Btw where is the bribery money coming from?

Have you heard of the NRO? Who signed it with Mushy? What was in the NRO?

What is the army’s take here?

If I have to believe the more common narrative then Imran was selected by army

I hear from Imran supporters that he won with one of the biggest mandates in Pakistan history.

What’s going on? I thought Indian politics was a mess and complicated lol.

Any neutral assessment of this situation

Why would anyone in Pakistan mess with the army?

first of all, no one is going to fight the Army, if Zardari and Nawaz cant, thn forget about IK , IK is no erdogon and Pak Army is not Turk Army ..... i can assure you that ......

secondly, Army is watching and monitoring very closely ......

they dont want to interfere, until unless, some of the Parties dont cross the red lines, red line is all about Pakistan national security and keeping law and order and economy in balance .....

otherwise , every party is free to do long march and daramay bazi and what not ...... they dont scared of democracy circus ...... and if someone try to take advantage of the situation, they should be ready for the consequences in the long run ......

they know IK is going, they dont have a problem, but they also know who will work for future .....

btw, its win-win for IK , thats for sure ......

remember a month ago PDM leader said they will do long march on 23rd march and enter in Islamabad and do jalsa ...... i told someone here , they wont do it .....

now the so called long march date is changed to 25th march ...... Lol :)

Open horse trading by PPP led by Billoo Rani. This is the 'democracy' that [MENTION=135038]Major[/MENTION] was giving us lectures on that PPP is fighting for. Pathetic state of affairs

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday said that he would not "bow to the horse-trading of the lawmakers. saying would fight back the conspiracy with the help of the masses."

"With God as my witness, I won't bow to this buying and selling [of the lawmakers]," the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) quoted Premier Imran as saying in a Twitter post this evening.

Premier Imran further said that "my supporters are with me and I will fight back this conspiracy."

A day earlier, while addressing a rally, PM lashed out at the opposition parties, saying their leaders were sitting in Islamabad’s Sindh House with “bags full of money” to “buy the loyalties of government lawmakers” and urged the people to reach Islamabad’s D-Chowk on March 27 – a day ahead of the no-confidence motion – to show that they stand with the “truth” and against the “slaves of America”.

Separately, PM Imran had held a consultative session at his Bani Gala residence that was attended by federal ministers Asad Umar, Pervez Khattak and Fawad Chaudhry among others.

Contacts with the allies as well as recent statements and an action plan were discussed on the occasion. Sindh Governor Imran Ismail also called on the premier and briefed him on the talks with allies, particularly the MQM-P. The PTI’s March 27 rally was also discussed.

Political temperatures have continued to rise in the wake of the forthcoming no-confidence motion against the premier, with both the government and the opposition forging contacts with friends and foes to turn the situation in their favour.

Wait wait wait, so you mean N league is corrupt, and PPP also. Because these all were proven corrupts by COURTS :)))
[MENTION=1269]Bewal Express[/MENTION] let's see if Major can accept his words, or is he going to change his words again :))

And it also means, IK is not corrupt.

Damn, you never think before uttering rubbish.

What should be counter attack strategy by IK now?

What should be counter attack strategy by IK now?

In trouble, definitely yes. IK may loss the Vote of No Confd. But in next election, PTI will clean sweep the whole country.

Anyways, i still think IK will win the vote of no Confd. Its time, he should show all the proofs which he have against the opposition.

And all those MNAs who sold their soul can be DQ, their seats will be empty and re-elections will be held.

I must say interesting times coming ahead

Looks like IK is in trouble, in fact pakistan future is in trouble.

He's equally responsible in bringing down the previous govt. did he expect an easy ride when he was in power? The opposition were waiting for PTI to falter and cracks to appear with the establishment, it was only a matter of time.

Previous government completed 5 years, and that crook was sent back based on court decision, this is nonsense comparison.
