It's a batting paradise. Zim should make 350 at least.

Good to see some Bangladesh cricket followers posting in this thread. If we dont do such threads, we are accused of bias so would appreciate if you and others keep updating thread.

BD supporters care less about Test cricket. They won't follow 4 days of test but would care about 5th day and win/loss.

Zim did wel though it's a batting paradise. They are ending the day with 5 wickets still intact. If they can manage another 100 odd runs then BD.in trouble about winning it. BD should resist them under 320 runs and bat two days and put on 500 score. Else no chance winning it but draw. Hoping for turn from 4th day. Good luck to both teams.

Zim end Day 1 of the 1st Test against Ban on 236/5 * (91 ov) after they won the toss and elected to bat first; Captain H Masakadza scored 52 whilst SC Williams put up an excellent 88 for the visitors;

I think, it’s a great day for ZIM - from 129/4 to 233/5 is quite a recovery. Test is a 2 innings game, therefore it’s early days, but I am sure among 2 camps, ZIM is much happier. Williams deserves a hundred here.

What about only one pacer and no rubel, mustafiz, shafiul or ebadat or khaled in the playing XI?!!!
What were the management thinking?! Is the only pacer, jayed, is better than all of them?
Why on batting paradise you play only one (inexperienced) pacer leaving mustafiz, rubel, shafiul, ebadat, khaled??!!!

Sean Williams and skipper Hamilton Masakadza made gritty fifties on a good day one pitch at Sylhet, but Bangladesh's spinners bowled with nagging accuracy to give their team a slight advantage.

Masakadza, the captain, led the way from the front looking solid and holding fort through the first session, while Williams took over the mantle in the second session, but the Bangladesh bowlers were not to be deterred. The spinners and even paceman Abu Jayed bowled with energy and gusto to keep making timely inroads. The day finished with Zimbabwe at 236/5, giving Bangladesh the edge.

The day started on a positive note for Zimbabwe as Masakadza won the toss and opted for first strike on a good-looking wicket at a brand new Test venue. So far so good, but it didn’t take Taijul Islam, the left-arm spinner who opened the bowling, much time to put Bangladesh in front.

Taijul struck either side of the first drinks break, first sending back opener Brian Chari when he went for a slog in just the 11th over of the day and ended up being bowled, and then accounting for Brendan Taylor, catching the edge off the defensive prod for Nazmul Hossain to take a sharp catch short leg.

That was in the 17th over, but Masakadza and Williams made sure Zimbabwe went to lunch without further damage, the captain getting to his eighth Test half-century – to go with five centuries – shortly before the break.

Masakadza couldn’t add to his 52 after lunch, though, as Jayed got one to curve into the Zimbabwe captain and trap him in front.

A short partnership worth 44 runs between Williams and Sikandar Raza ensued, before debutant left-arm spinner Nazmul Islam found a way through Raza’s defence to peg back his stumps. Raza went for 19 and, with Williams bringing up his half-century, Zimbabwe went to tea at 149/4.

Williams was the best batsman on the day. His footwork against the spinners was assured and he didn't shy away from cashing in on the odd lose delivery. He looked well set for a century until he played a rare lazy defensive stroke to Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah's off-spin, getting a thick edge to first slip, where Mehedi Hasan took an excellent catch, Zimbabwe slipping to 201/5.

One expected things to unravel from Zimbabwe thereon particularly with bowlers delivering with renewed vigour, but Peter Moor – who was extremely cautious early in his innings – and Regis Chakabva put on a very impressive show.

Moor had come out to bat around mid-way through the second session, and was hell-bent on a defensive approach, but he eased into a more proactive role in the closing stages of the game. Generally speaking, Chakabva wasn't quite as solid as his partner, but he managed to keep the bowlers at bay. Moor finished the day with 37 to his name, and Chakabva 20. Bangladesh might have the slight advantage, but if this duo make their starts count on the second day, Zimbabwe will have plenty of reason for cheer.

Saw some clips of Abu Jayed, wanna be James Anderson, trundling at 130K.

Sylhet looks like a beautiful stadium, scenery was almost like in New Zeleand, obviously not as good.

Some Bangladeshi fans needs to stop getting emotional about everything.

Think Bangladesh are slightly ahead imo. They'll probably shoot out Zimbabwe for around 300-350 tomorrow, and that is very unlikely to be enough

WOW. I thought ZIM lost their test status a while ago. Who would want to watch this series?

Zimbabwe and Bangladesh look like two lost test sides. Bangladesh still has some wins under the belt.

Zimbabwe are heading down the route of Kenya. Sad

I want Zimbabwe to win. Would be good for cricket. If Bangladesh have to bat last on this pitch, a target of 200+ may be difficult so hopefully the visitors can get close to 400 tomorrow and bundle Bangladesh out.

MMHS very beatuful Sylhet stadium.Congrats on such venue .Outfield was slow like UAE ,needs work.

Sylhet is the rain capital, probably curators didn’t get enough time for the out field; even last week a FC game was complete wash out. The venue is picturous indeed, and it’s one of the higher scoring venues.

YEa have been studied during school days that Sylhet is one of the rainy areas in Bangladesh.

6 down - need to wrap the tail quickly. Also surprising that we haven't got rain yet

At Lunch on Day 2 of the 1st Test, Bangladesh are 2/0 after bowling out Zimbabwe for 282; Taijul Islam took 6/108 for the homeside, whilst PJ Moor remained not out on 63* for the visitors

Mahmudullah is rubbish test player. He shouldn't be in the test team, let alone be captain.

Zimbabwe lack of proper spinner in this test. Otherwise they could could have won this match. Brandon Mavuta is a full toss spinner.

78/6 ... Mushfiqur out. ZIM have a great chance of winning this test now. Will probably be their 1st victory in the last 15 or so matches all formats combined.

Bangladesh are proving that they hv indeed become a powerhouse in cricket. LOL

Nevertheless, it's a real disgusting showing by our test team. Zimbabwe were just thrashed in ODIs,nobody expected this after that. It's just a rare bad day for us. It's just too difficult to come back from this stage.

Poor captaincy by Masakadza, bowling part timers instead of Chatara

Even if Zimbos get lead over 100 they will still loose this match. They always crumble under pressure. They will be all out under 100 in the 2nd innings.

Honestly i can't see anything in the pitch for 280 or 140 score. Weird.

Bangladesh bowled out for 143.

Zimbabwe have a MASSIVE opportunity here.

Reminds me of the time when they beat Bangladesh in Zimbabwe in their first test match back after their 6 year hiatus, in 2011.

Getting all out within a day against THIS Zimbabwe side is embarrassing, to say the least, though I still back Bangla boys to make a comeback and win the match just like SL did against Zimbabwe last year.

Looks like our power is radiating to health hazard level😤

Was off actually, impressive bowling by Bangladesh.

Absolutely garbage batting though

Tendai Chatara and Sikandar Raza each claimed three scalps to give Zimbabwe the upper hand against Bangladesh on the second day of the first of two Tests between the sides.

The home side folded for just 143, giving Zimbabwe a lead of 139 which they extended by one run without loss before bad light intervened.

The visitors started the day at 236/5, with Peter Moor and Regis Chakabva at the crease. They looked primed to go past 300, but suffered a batting collapse to fold for 282.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Taijul Islam, with figures of 6/108, helped Bangladesh claim the honours in the morning session. He dismissed Chatara and Kyle Jarvis off back-to-back deliveries, and will be on a hat-trick when he comes on to bowl in the third innings.

Moor remained unbeaten on 63, helping Zimbabwe reach a fighting total after Sean Williams scored an impressive 88 on the first day. Their last four batsmen fell for single-digit scores, adding just 11 runs between them.

Bangladesh had a nightmarish start to their innings, losing Liton Das and Imrul Kayes for scores of 9 and 5, while Nazmul Hossain Shanto struggled on his comeback to the Bangladesh side, returning to the pavilion for a run-a-ball 5 after edging Chatara to Chakabva. The seamer then dismissed Mahmudullah for a duck one ball later, thereby reducing the hosts to 19/4 within 10 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who replaced Mahmudullah, tried to stabilize the innings with his 54-ball 31. He stitched small but important 30- and 22-run partnerships with Monimul and Ariful Haque before falling to the pacey Kyle Jarvis in the 29th over.

Ariful, who remained unbeaten at 41, was the only bright spot of an otherwise forgettable batting performance from Bangladesh. Mehidy Hasan, who came to the crease after Rahim's dismissal, was the last Bangladesh batsman to reach a double-digit score. He added 21 runs in 33 balls before falling caught and bowled to Williams.

Taijul Islam, Nazmul Islam and Abu Jayed, the last three batsmen of the hosts' batting lineup, were dismissed for 8, 4 and 0 respectively. Sikandar Raza, along with Chatara, was excellent on the day, picking up three scalps in his 12-over spell.

I thought we were minnows and you guys weren't anymore?

Thinking is done here by you guys here - we are just part of it. If you think you are minnows I can’t help - open a new thread “PAK is new minnows ...”, to express your thought.

Test cricket is 5 day game .i think bd will come back hard and will restrict target under 300 and then will chase down the target easily

I don't think that BD will win if Zimbabwe gives a target over 275. And Zim will give us a target over 300, we don't have Shakib and Mustafizur to rattle them in 2nd innings. Seeing our batsmen in first innings,it will be more than a miracle if BD wins this match.

It was tough to find this thread. Don't know how to make it easier.
Maybe there should be a sub forum for match threads.

Coming to topic, it is not looking good for Bangladesh. Zimboks have bowled BD for almost half their score and if they can bat for one more whole day, BD will looking down the barrel.

I hope Zimbabwe aren't bundled out for less than 100. They've collapsed from good positions before. Would love to see Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh.

There was heavy rain for an hour in Sylhet yesterday night and sky is cloudy today so far

Bangladesh claim their first wicket of the day as Zimbabwe now are 20/1 but are still leading the hosts by 159 runs.

A lot depends on Brendan Taylor. Has played fantastically so far. He stays for another couple of hours and Zim would be the firm favorites.

Lead of 186 now, need another 125-130 runs to feel safe

BD management tried to test their B team against AFG and got destroyed. Here they are trying out their B team against ZIM, and most likely will get destroyed here too.

I am ODI kind of guy, but even I will admit Test cricket is the ultimate format of the game even though it is boring to watch.

A team that had Tamin, Shakib, Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah and Shabbir Rehman in top 6 was a B team?

Sylhet is a lovely stadium. Unlike most SC stadiums, has lots of open spaces and a picturesque surroundings. Hope BD play more matches here.

Does the city have much cricketing tradition?

Tradition? Not so much.
But the city has all the potential to have many matches in future. It has all the facilities to host international matches. We will see many more in the future unlike khulna(no international facilities) and bogura(political issue).

I live in Sylhet. No such rich cricket tradition but it is a city surrounded with beauty of nature.

Thanks. I already love this stadium.

Have sen the pics. Looks to be full of tea gardens! Awesome to have a cricket stadium in such a place.

If it was AFG instead of ZIM, all hell wouldve broke loose by now here in Pakpassion lol.

Rightly so. Afghanistan has no proper FC structure.

Zim on the other hand, despite all issues, have a FC structure, though with some issues. Return of Taylor and Jarvis with rich county experience has also helped them in the longer format.

Yes you are right. This Zimbabwe side is with full strength and with some experience.Masakdza ,Raza,Sean Willis,Taylor,Jarvis are experienced and have quality. We are missing Tamim,Shakib and Mustafizur badly. Yet, we should have beaten this Zim side. Dismal and shameful performance

Shame on our batsmen. They should learn batting from zim batsmen. May be our batsmen were in hurry to eat 'shatkora'.

Why are Tamim, Shakib and Fizz not playing? Are they injured?

Pathetic to see Zimbabwe lets this match go. If they are not capable of sweep shot why bother try and get out.

Jayed should be brought back. It's already a winning total for Zim
