This was a game for the purists. Those people who want to see a bowlers' match. It was a total contrast to what's happened in the WC to date with huge scores. And some people were expecting 400+ from each side! This match delivered the type of gripping tension when the scores are low and the match goes down to the wire.

This was a match of four Acts:

Act 1 - OZ blast away at 10rpo to get 50 in 5 overs and get to 1/80
Act 2 - NZ tighten the screws and roll a high class batting lineup with a combination of superb bowling that brought about poor shots to put the OZ on the mat only for a last wicket recovery to something remotely approaching respectability

Act 3 - NZ thrash 50 runs in 5 overs as well and look to be winning the match in 10 overs
Act 4 - OZ, spearheaded by Mitchell Starc who singlehandedly drags his team to the brink of victory, only to fall short by one wicket

Barring Acts 1 and 3, the OZ innings was all about NZ, and the NZ innings was all about OZ. What it showed was that these two sides probably have the best bowling attacks in the tournament. When you have good bowlers you will ALWAYS be in with a chance to win. Even if you get rolled for 150. Good bowlers can help you regain your honour.

Full credit to both teams. In the end it came down to one wicket. Good to see the game played in great spirit between two teams and two countries who have a strong respect for each other on and off the field, all the friendly banter aside.

No moral victories for us. What we did do though was show that if anyone wants to beat us they will have to really, really play better than us. The team never gave up even when NZ had that partnership between Williamson and Anderson. Even with 15 runs to defend they kept trying, they had attacking fields to try to take a wicket.

We regained a bit of pride after that first innings humiliation. But end of day NZ get the points and deservedly so. But I'm not that disappointed with the result. Definitely unhappy with the batting performance, I think both teams would be. But pleased with our bowling, and Starc in particular. Jonno looks to have lost form and pace which is a concern.
