I think there is a divide within Arsenal fans, half see Areta as done his best and cant take the team any further. After all he's done the treble....thrice coming 2nd.
Other believe he needs 2/3 players to win the league.
The Champions League is also tough, not as tough as the league but Arsenal have been given a favourable draw v PSV. Liverpool have PSG, even though finishing top of the group/league and imo Villa who drew Brugge also have a tougher match up.
Its time for Arsenal to take advantage of this fortune and get some fans smiling again esp @Mamoon , poor chap predicted its in the bag and 2 league titles about 3 years ago.
Emery has done a better job in the transfer window, Durran is a top player but fell out with Emery as he wanted to start more. Arsenal signed nobody even with injuries so if they win nothing, its of their own making.
PSV failed to follow the script and were far too open... KingKhan was indeed spot on with his assessment..You’re right again, Arsenal destroyed them, poor PSV, bet a championship side would have done betterArsenal still run the club like a business, I can’t see Arteta falling out with the owners anytime soon, but they have a golden chance in the CL. Being a big club is about having big mentality in these scenario’s so lets see if they can overcome that big asterisk against them in Euro competition, if Arteta can do it, then fair play; if not, there’s always next season

Most of fan base are making excuses
VAR
Injuries
Red cards
Liverpool are lucky
Arteta making out that 2nd place currently is a miracle.
This fan base never has any accountability. It's either back tracking on claims with excuses.
Or in the case of on here it's
Gone into hiding completely
Hiding on the cricket forum
Liking posts in this thread, but hiding
These plastic part time fans know exactly who they are. They will be back in summer with same shameless Arteta twerking and once again come December will be making new excuses.
PSV failed to follow the script and were far too open... KingKhan was indeed spot on with his assessment..
He was due to get one right after the stick I give him for predictionsIf betting was halal @KingKhanWC would make us all wealthy, he called the Villa game as well.
He was due to get one right after the stick I give him for predictions... Talking of predictions.. Didn't you famously tell us you guys are come for our spot?
I hope you make it. I've openly said I like Emery and wish him well.I am the opposite of what KingKhan is in that regardMathematically the top 4 is still on

Great performance from the team. It's been a while.
Very lucky not to concede early but after that we were very clinical.
Have to say MLS was a lucky boy eventhough I thought the first yellow was a bit soft.
I thought the team showed energy and quality as well. Everyone played their part.
Having said that, eventhough he scored I thought odegaard was very average today. He really needs to show up before Saka comes back otherwise questions will be further raised. Great assist tbh but we need more of these moments when we are struggling to score not 6-1 up.
Anyway fair to say job should be done now and off to Madrid.
Raheem sterling being chased down by a pensioner in Perisic summed him up in an Arsenal shirt
One game a week Declan Rice is a monster. Energy levels are something else.
Realistically nah. We don't have the firepower up front. The draw is tough as well.Champions league contenders now?
Next round is one of the Madrid sides.Champions league contenders now?
PSV made same mistake as sporting Lisbon, west ham (A), Brentford (A), Palace (A) etc.. if your going to go toe to toe with Arsenal you will get taken apart.PSV failed to follow the script and were far too open... KingKhan was indeed spot on with his assessment..
Next round is one of the Madrid sides.
People are assuming at moment it will be Real, but they have a tough 2nd leg to play yet at Athletico.
We will see if Arsenal have improved in Europe or not as they will come up against teams just as good defensively and with more fire power. Also up against world class tactical managers.
Athletico vs Arsenal would be the dark arts Derby, wouldn't be a great spectical to watch.
Real Madrid do give up chances against opposition and teams have to be clinical against them, as they have big game players who step up and punish you if you don't.
Arsenal should have Martinelli back by then so atleast a focal point in attack.
Will see Arsenal true level next round when they play The top Tier CL proven sides.
Took a while for the comments to be released but explains why Liverpool didn't appeal, also that it wasn't just for an aggressive handshakeIf it's incorrect then another overturned from the so called best referee....
Offensive language is another inconsistency. Just look at the likes of Palmer, Grealish who consistently use foul language as do most players to be fair. But Oliver had to make it about him
So its not only Arsenal who blame refs then. Liverpool manager rolled out the excuses after 1 draw saying it will be the refs fault if they dont win the league. WOWTook a while for the comments to be released but explains why Liverpool didn't appeal, also that it wasn't just for an aggressive handshake
(Don't want to go into a boring conversation about referees, just saw this on twitter and felt it was relevant to the discussion we had at the time)
Which players of Atletico would you class as world class? Apart from their manager what makes you call them World Class? What have they done that they are a World class team? They are a good side.Real or Athletico are on a totally different level , both are world class teams, arsenal will be rank outsiders against either. Anything can happen in football but it will a massive shock arsenal.even with it's full strength team to get past them over two legs.
I didnt see the game but PSv have a poor defensive record , always leaking goals and in poor form in their league. Arsenal were always going to score a few but 7 means well played.
With a huge lead , now Arteta can rest all his players in the 2nd leg and concentrate on the league![]()
Which players of Atletico would you class as world class? Apart from their manager what makes you call them World Class? What have they done that they are a World class team? They are a good side.
Full strength Arsenal is not a massive shock if they beat either - that is just you trying to antagonise Arsenal fans.
Really poor quality post. Do better
That's not what I asked.Watch the match v real Madrid, AM are a very strong side. No need to get upset, it's my opinion. I can't see arsenal beating either over two legs but lets wait and see
That's not what I asked.
I will try again,
IN YOUR OPINION - what is world class about Atletico. Which players and also what makes them world class.
I never said Arsenal would beat them - I challenged your claim that a full strength Arsenal beating them would be in your words a " Massive Shock"
name the players who are world class in your opinionTheir forward line , their defence and they have a far superior manager than arsenal. AM this season are matching both Real and Barca , arsenal are going backwards compared to last season. This is obvious to anyone who follows football in general.
Are you saying you'll best AM in the next round if they get past Real ?
name the players who are world class in your opinion
What have they won? this World class team.... this world class team with no world class players? They are world class as a team because of the way they play together and the way their manager plays them. Alvarez and Griezman are better than any attackers Arsenal have. Watch their matches, youll see they are a top side at present.
You seem to be not impressed so now pls do answer my question.
If its AM next round, Arsenal will go through against them? Yes or No?
You claim to watch them and I bet you could not name their 11 without google.... obviously I cant prove this however its Ramadan bro. Don't lieThey are world class as a team because of the way they play together and the way their manager plays them. Alvarez and Griezman are better than any attackers Arsenal have. Watch their matches, youll see they are a top side at present.
You seem to be not impressed so now pls do answer my question.
If its AM next round, Arsenal will go through against them? Yes or No?
What have they won? this World class team.... this world class team with no world class players?
Alvarez is not better than Saka and nor is this current version of Griezman... yet more deluded football take from you.
If Arsenal were full strength yes we could beat them. This current Arsenal team it will be more difficult with the none existent forward line.
One thing for sure is this. You said it would be a massive shock if a full strength Arsenal beat them. That is a pathetic opinion in my opinion.
What have Arsenal won under Arteta , 1 FA cup and 2 charity shields? lol
You cry too much, maybe try getting a job on AFTV, fit right in there.
But unlike those clowns you dont even have the bottle to say YOUR TEAM will beat AM in the next round. Go watch AFTV , debating with fools is not worth my time.
I see you didn't get an answer on Oliver missing Millwall goalkeeper delivering Shaun micheals "sweet chin music" on Palace playerSo its not only Arsenal who blame refs then. Liverpool manager rolled out the excuses after 1 draw saying it will be the refs fault if they dont win the league. WOW
On another note - I didn't see any discussions about Pep complaining about the ball after the FA Cup match. I remember Arteta getting bashed on this thread. So please guys keep it consistent
Talking of elite or world class players the tag that a lot of this fan base throws around with little substance to back it up.
We will find out how good Rice, Odegaard etc.. really are in next round of CL. Where we will play a side with just as good a midfield as Arsenal.
Rice as a marquee signing, was made to make a difference and the next round if CL will show how good he really is. Against Bayern last season he had very little influence across the two ties.
Same goes for Odegaard will see if he can outshine players who are same or better than him, rather then dissapearing like he did vs Bayern last year aswell.
These will be games where it starts to show if a player is good, elite or world class level.
Rice is very good in the 6 position, he's not a number 8. He does need to take it up a level when he comes up against the best sides in Europe and same at international level for England.Rice works hard gives it his all but is a limited player, certainly not a 100m signing imo. As you know you are only as good as the opposition. Yes it was a good performance but now some Arsenal fans are saying they are going to win the CL or suggesting they can as weaker teams in the past have won it . The problem is you most likely have Real, LFC/PSG and then Barca to beat to win this comp, those teams have world class players.
Next up Man Utd away who are in dissary but they usually raise their game against the top of the league end sides. They also beat Arsenal away in the FA cup. Beating PSV easily is good but if then drop points to a struggling Utd team, not much has changed.
Of course it's not exclusive to Arsenal, just they have a noisy online presence but all clubs have fans that complain about decisions (there's some Newcastle fans suggesting Gordon was was harshly sent off)So its not only Arsenal who blame refs then.
You could just ask me directly, no need to be all secretive like a teenage girlI see you didn't get an answer on Oliver missing Millwall goalkeeper delivering Shaun micheals "sweet chin music" on Palace player
Maybe certain Oliver fan boys didn't see the incident either![]()
You could just ask me directly, no need to be all secretive like a teenage girl
I've not been active of late as have more important things to concentrate on so have missed many a post
I didn't call Arsenal world class .... looks like someones lost their head.
and there it is TANTRUM time when called out for making statements that make no sense and prove you actually pluck things out of thin air and think you have said something smart.
My work here is done. See you next time
Exactly. And trust me I don't fall for it. I will just continuously put him in his place by asking to explain the odd statements he makes.Bro you see this is one of the reasons why I don't post here. It's become a bit toxic here.
Everyone knows he's just here to antagonise Arsenal fans with rage bait. We shouldn't fall for it and entertain it here. I have to say it's a bit sad for a Liverpool fan to spend more time on an Arsenal thread than the Liverpool one on Timepass, that too during Umrah. It's quite pathetic really.
Oliver saw the incident yet deemed it not an issue, yet at other times he's happy to pull his cards out without a second thought. PGMOL go on and on about how he's the so called best English referee. You could just ask me directly, no need to be all secretive like a teenage girl
I've not been active of late as have more important things to concentrate on so have missed many a post
On the Mateta incident, it was an awful decision but what was worse than the decision was his failure to stop play. It's bad enough to think it wasn't a foul but quite something to not stop play when a player was clearly hurt
I don't support Michael Oliver or claim he's an amazing referee that makes flawless decisions.
I just challenged the narrative that he's getting paid to stop certain teams winning the league. The Millwall decision should prove that he's capable of bad decisions and it isn't part of some conspiracy, unless of course you think he's getting brown envelopes under the table from Millwall.
On Arsenal I think they have a better chance of going through against Real than they do Atletico
We had the blueprint to beat Arsenal and Atletico can do that way better than we do, not saying it's impossible but think it's a tougher test
If your argument all along is that he's a poor referee then I wouldn't have argued otherwiseOliver saw the incident yet deemed it not an issue, yet at other times he's happy to pull his cards out without a second thought. PGMOL go on and on about how he's the so called best English referee.
Very quick to book certain players for kicking a ball away or from stop a counter attack.
But then extra violent tackles ike kovacic or out and out assault by Millwall keeper is seen as a non issue. The guy pretty much picks and chooses when he wants to apply rules or be centre of attention then actually refereeing games.
I'd have Real as favourites against any side in this competitionMost teams playing Real Madrid in CL knockouts have failed to take advantage when on top in games, ultimately Real have then won games and ties by having key players step up and making a difference.
Look at last season. Liepzig, Bayern failed to take numerous chances they had in the home fixture in the knockout games vs Real. Man City outplayed Real for vast majority of the 2 legs, lost on penalties. Dortmund should have been atleast 2-0 up in the final after missing sitters galore.
Even in 1st leg vs Man city this season, City at 1-0 up missed chances to make it 2 or 3 nil.
So any team wanting to beat Real, pretty much needs to put their chances away when on top. Those chances will come and their can be a scenario of if you take those chances your then 2 or 3 goals up vs Madrid. You don't take the chances. They will punish you.
So some Arsenal fans are waving the surrender flag saying Arsenal don't have the firepower. Like donkeys such as havertz or Jesus etc.. would make a difference. Martinelli has been woeful.
In saying that it doesn't matter what frontline Arsenal put out. It's about when you get those chances just put them away.
so of Arsenal played Real, their would be spells in a game where chances would come, those aren't taken and Real will just wipe the floor with you.
Athletico would just be a terrorist football game, we saw how a similar team in Inter Milan stiffled Arsenal and made them look impotent
Of course Real are favourites to retain their title, it will take a goos side to knock them out.I'd have Real as favourites against any side in this competition
They have this mental stranglehold on the CL, seemingly top teams just crumble in the key moments
Bro you see this is one of the reasons why I don't post here.
Better than spending time in gay Soho bars and posting .
Its an arsenal thread, but now owned by arsenal team. I have a lot of free time will continue to post where I want.
every man and his dog knows both Madrid teams are strong favourites against this arsenal thread , only aftv type delusional fans would suggest otherwise
Did I hit a nerve?
Lol it's a question for yourself . I dont play for the opposite team.
Any thoughts on your match today?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Man U win today. Bruno Fernandes is in red hot form.
Firstly, Ramadhan Mubarak to you all.
Remarkable result.
Imagine scoring 7 in an away CL knockout game with all your 3 x first choice forwards injured.
I did say Arsenal have improved in the Champions League.
Last season, you could see there was a lot of nerves and they struggled in away atmospheres in Europe.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we will beat Real Madrid in the next round with the lack of firepower we have going forward but nonetheless I have been satisfied by the progress I’ve seen Arsenal make in Europe this season.
Another toothless performance. Passing the ball round in circles and hoping for best on set pieces.
Calafori non existent defending, this guy is the Italian Zinchenko.
Good free kick from Bruno, but Raya could have done better
Arsenal captain needs to turn up. His begrait fan boys were crying when he was out injured earlier in season, saying its one of reasons for teams poor form.
Supposedly musiala would get benched by him![]()
This is the worst Man united team in premier league history. They are lucky that the teams in bottom 3 are so far behind them. That they will stay up.200th game for Arteta but seems it's his first day on the job .
Utd look dangerous on the counter . 45 to go but a win now looks far away
This is the worst Man united team in premier league history. They are lucky that the teams in bottom 3 are so far behind them. That they will stay up.
Arsenal just passing ball around, trying to walk the ball in net. Its no different to when normal forwards are in team.
Midfield keeps hold of ball to long, plus the lack of top quality play maker in midfield means that that final pass won't come. It's the worst since Fergie took over but they are showing some energy and togetherness.
Arsenal pass the ball so well around their half and upto 30 yards from goal but lost at sea when it comes to the final ball .
Plenty of awful Brazilians Jesus, richalison, AnthonyHas Marteneli ever beaten a player, yet to see it. Hes Brazilian too lol
1-1 fair result between 2 awfully poor sides
So "if" Arsenal in the next round get knock out by one of the Madrid sides.
How exactly is that progress from last season? The reality of the situation will be no different to last season. Pretty much being knocked out by the 1st top side we have come up against. (Bayern last season)
You talk about Arsenal playing in a nervous fashion last season, now your saying that's they have improved on that aspect. That's a fair enough point.
The reality again is group stage football (whether it be last seasons format) or this new format. Teams play in a different fashion to how they do in the knockouts.
In isolation Arsenal performances against PSG, Sporting Lisbon and PSV look good. But that doesn't give any indication to how this team will handle a two legged knock out tie against a side who will be equally as good as Arsenal, if not better experience and quality.
This is a point I made to you after the sporting Lisbon game, where you got over excited on that game as well as the west ham (away game).
I got told I had an agenda. No Agenda here, my points been consistent. Those teams that are stupid enough to go toe to toe with Arsenal this season, have been taken apart in Europe and the PL. Those teams that have tactically set up in solid fashion and hit on the counter attack, knowing Arsenal are clueless against low blocks. That point has been clear all season. Newcastle proved that over to legs in league cup semi final.
So my question is simple one how can you be satisfied on so called "progress"
24 teams were able to qualify from the group stages. So reality is the bare minimum for Arsenal would have been get to the last 16. Also how this team cope in tough away atmosphere will ge determined when they go away to one of the Madrid sides.
Progression if you want to use it in the CL, would actually be making it to the semi finals and beating one of these Madrid sides.
I find it weird that your satisfied by a few decent results in group stages, which ultimately have zero baring on knockout football.
Everything I've said above is no different to what I said back at end of last year.
Interms of determing where in this new league format Arsenal would finish was difficult. Mainly because it was a new format, plus the random nature of fixtures the computer would put out for every team.Arsenal have certainly made progress from last season if we go by eye test and results so far.
View attachment 151955
At the beginning of the season, I didn't expect Arsenal to finish anywhere near the top. I thought they would finish much lower down, somewhere like 8th or just below the top 8. Where did you think we would finish?
From what I remember, neither of us fancied us winning that away game at Sporting, but we ended up beating them 5-1. Sporting hasn't lost a game all season and were undefeated at home in over a year until they played Arsenal that evening.
I appreciate there's no added value when it comes to finishing top during the first stage of the competition, if you can't go all the way and win it. I get that.
Arsenal's side last season was at full strength (barring Timber) but they limped over the line against Porto. It went to penalties and their performance was nothing to write home about. It wouldn't surprise me if they had a similar experience against PSV, had they faced them last season.
As I've said before, Arsenal had their struggles in big atmospheres away from home in Europe. I'm glad we can agree at least agree on this.
Fast forward 12 months, Arsenal have just delivered their biggest away win in their European Cup/Champions League history despite the fact that they had their first string front 3 (Saka, Havertz and Martinelli) out injured. Does this not look like progress to you? I checked the odds prior to the game and Arsenal's win % was somewhere between 50 and 55, so according to the bookies it wasn't supposed to be a walk in the park.
Coming to your question regarding my view on progress if they were to lose to either Real or Atletico in the next round:
I expect Real Madrid to beat Atletico. If they do, for me they are the favourites to go all the way and win it again. I didn't think they would be in the mix in the beginning of the season because the team wasn't functioning with Mbappe in the side, but he's now back to his best. If Real Madrid do win it, I will happily acknowledge that I got this wrong.
There would be no shame for an Arsenal side, which is severely depleted in attack, to lose to Real Madrid.
Bayern are an elite side, but losing to Real in the next round would not be analogous to the loss against Bayern at the same stage last season for two reasons. Firstly, Real Madrid are not just elite, they are the favourites to win it this year. Secondly, Bayern struggled under Tuchel last season. They were poor by their lofty standards. This is why I was quite annoyed that Arsenal were unable to defeat them last year.
As for Atletico, if Arsenal had their first string attack and lost to them, then I would agree with the notion about the lack of progress in Europe.
Arsenal can also be forgiven for losing against a very good Atletico team when they have a mid-table standard attack.
Interms of determing where in this new league format Arsenal would finish was difficult. Mainly because it was a new format, plus the random nature of fixtures the computer would put out for every team.
When the fixtures did come out, I expected Arsenal to win all their home games, in regards to the away fixtures the hardest was always inter Milan. I thought sporting and Atlanta would be tricky. So getting 4 points was good. Again the result in isolation vs sporting was excellent. But if you look at Arsenal away fixtures, the same issues have arisen. Sporting, PSV were very open which played into Arsenal hands and Arsenal took advantage. Inter and Atlanta played in a typical defensive fashion and the lack of creativity and cutting edge was shown up again. This is always been the issues. That if Arsenal then come up against this in knockout stages the lack of creativity and clinical edge will be shown up.
Newcastle have Stiffled Arsenal in similar fashion in league cup. Arsenal haven't found a solution to getting over line in tight knockout games where chances are at a premium. This is where our players need to step up.
If we play real Madrid. We will get chances, all teams do and this is where Arsenal need to be ruthless. They were vs sporting, PSV. but that taking of every chance you get has to be done on other games as well.
Reason I have got carried away with beating Lisbon, PSV or even in PL we have smashed City, West ham (A), etc.. is because I know this team can do that in an open game. For evert trashing, their are to many games at opposite side of spectrum where chances aren't taken.
Their will spells in games where we will have a few chances, we don't take them and will get punished. Real Madrid are beatable but you have to take every chance you get in a game. Liepzig, Bayern, man city. Dortmund failed to do that last season.
Saka is likely to be back, so if we played Atletico. Arsenal have a chance, nothing to be fearful of. But again any naivety will need to go in order the get through. Mistakes like the ones vs Bayern will get punished.
Yeah Bayern weren't great last season, but Arsenal were to niave in both ties. Ultimately we lost the game in midfield. Rice was poor in both games, oddegard dissapeared as well. These are games where these players need to step up.
Progression would be beating either Real or Athletico, yeah their is no shame in losing to either. But also are players need to step up a level and show they can compete against elite. At moment they are falling short when they do.
Arsenal showed under wenger you can get to a CL final playing pragmatic football. Byr Ultimately you need to have clinical cutting edge and your midfield stepping up a level to get over the line.
So for me we will see if any of last seasons failings have been improved on when we play the 1/4 finals
A lot of fans and pundits suggesting that he should be moved to a deeper role along side rice. Which may in theory work, only issue is he would Need to improve on his physicality in that position.I really expected Ode to kick on from the second half of last season (Jan 2024 onwards) but I should've stuck to my guns. For me he is the most overrated player, I've seen play in the PL.
He has the ability but his weak mentality is the reason why he can never be relied on to clutch or be a difference maker. Arsenal really needed him to step following the injuries to all their forwards.
He will do well if he others around to carry him - for e.g. if he was playing for Real or Bayern.
He's gone missing/flopped on numerous occasions:
He's become a liability in front of goal. His career is on a downward trajectory if anything.
- End of 21/22 season when Arsenal fell short of top 4
- End of 22/23 season when Arsenal fell short of winning the title
- First half of last season
- Throughout this season
- Throughout his career for Norway
Arteta is to blame for making him captain and also for letting his standards as an all-round player drop to such a mediocre level.
It won't be long until Nwaneri takes his spot. This guy as a 17 year old is putting the Norweigan to shame. He's had a much better season than him.
I will give Arteta one more season to see what he can do with an elite LW and CF, under our new sporting director.
