What's new

Australia defeat India by 5 wickets in 1st ODI (Perth)

Why the heck is Bhuvenswar Kumar always in the ODI side when Dhoni is captaining ???? This is poor, Dhoni's fetish for trundlers.

We were the first team to try DRS in 2008-09 when we toured Lanka.

But then projected paths were used to give LBWs without the umpire call. So even if it slightly brushed the bails of leg stump the umpire decision was overturned and given out .

Jayawardne being a much better captain than Kumble used it much more effectively .Even though Mendis was the biggest factor in our test series loss the DRS played a big part in it.So most Indian players who played in that series just don't trust the Hawkeye part in DRS.

Kumble relied on Dinesh Kartik for LBW appeals. And Kartik got it wrong almost every time.

What's the point of playing with 5 bowlers when you are going to make a batsman bowl?

And our statsman Shiva has dug this out: Four India bowlers have dismissed both the openers on ODI debut before Sran: Avishkar Salvi, Tinu Yohannnan, M Venkataramana and Eknath Solkar. None went on to play ten ODIs though

From CI.

Dhoni must be thinking "Rohit has had a brilliant day with the bat. Why not bowl him, maybe its his lucky day"

Dhonis captaincy  This is why I hate playing OZ though. Saffers and Pakistanis always slow down a bit after a couple of wickets. These guys still keep scoring quick.

He misses Raina's bowling and wanted to see if Rohit could fill the void. That's the only explanation

Not sure why he always makes such moves and releases all the pressure. There was absolutely no need of bringing Rohit at that time.

He goes for the surprise factor.

I mean who would think Rohit is gonna get a bowl in the match?

Maybe not even Rohit himself!

Problem is part-time must be spot on for the surprise to work.

There is no point in taking Rahane over Raina in LOI imo.

In AUstralia, it's Rahana over Raina always. If India is 50/3, who would you want to bat? Rahane or Raina?

Raina over Rahane in subcontinent though

Raina's LOI performance in England has also been very good.TBH i don't think Rahane makes any difference in Australia.

Doesn't drive or cut at all. Only glances, flicks and pulls.

For a batsmen as limited to glances, pulls and flicks its a wonder he scores tons and tons of runs.

Can anyone explain how Steven Smith manages to keep scoring with his limited shots?

His innings against SA in Melbourne was a master class. He just needs to totate the strike like ROhit or Kohli and he will be very good.

I miss Hayden Gilchrist Ponting Martyn Waugh..... Symonds...

What an order.. What class...

May be and its not a technical issue with Rahane but defn a mental one somehow he is not able to calculate while playing LOI and goes overboard later.

Aussies need 7 an over already and our best bowler hasn't even bowled yet .

If Ashwin bowls well we will win from here

Actually it is still 50-50. These two can easily take the score to 150 odd in 25 overs. Need to get atleast one of them now.

I understand! but you make such moves when you are in a desperate situation and when nothing is working. After picking up two wickets, and having the opposition in pressure, you wanna continue to bring in your gun bowlers and continue to pick up wickets. Besides, Smith is a damn good player when it comes to playing spin and Bailey is not bad either. Btw when Dhoni is captaining, I am sure Virat and Rohit always fancy their chances at bowling spin:) I like Dhoni a lot and I wish he adapts and changes some of these bad habits that he has developed as a captain. Cricket has changed a lot in last couple of years and these surprise factors rarely work these days!!

This will be a cakewalk for the Aussies with Faulkner and Maxwell to came. They can even target 100+ in last ten overs.

It's just that he doesn't let pressure get to him, constantly rotating the strike, bowler gets frustrated and bowls a loose delivery and smith cashes in. It's working well for him now but he'll be in trouble once he gets older and his reflex slow up. He will be in trouble with his constant shuffling.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks Smith is fugly to watch.

Sure he scores runs, but god damn I can't bother watching him bat awkwardly as he does.

Neither. I'll reserve my judgement on Mustafiz from BD until T20 WC.

True!!! Its not that easy to be a legend. A few 3-4 years good performance and than a setback can destroy a career.

Another 8+ runs over for OZs.

Ashwin/Jaddu duo seems totally ineffective for this track

Bad bowling by Ashwin.

Its an easy wicket to score off spinners but bowling on the legs (which he did for a few times) is easy singles.
