India begin their ICC Cricket World Cup Super League campaign as they resume international cricket with the ODI series against Australia. The first two games of the ODI series will be held in Sydney with the action shifting to Canberra for the final game.

Overview

Australia vs India, 1st ODI
Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney
Friday, 27 November, 02.40pm local time, 03.40am GMT

India last played ODI cricket earlier this year in New Zealand, where they lost all three matches. They have a few selection queries facing them, most notably at the top of the batting order.
In the absence of an unfit Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan’s opening partner will have to be identified from KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Shubman Gill.

Rahul might also continue to bat in the middle-order and double up as wicket-keeper, as he has been doing in the last few ODIs for India.

India also have a conundrum around their fifth bowler. Hardik Pandya, who did not bowl in the recently concluded season of the IPL, is being monitored after a back surgery last year. If he doesn’t bowl, India might have to slot Ravindra Jadeja in at no.7 with Hardik competing with the top 6 batters for a place in the side.

If Jadeja plays, there will likely be room for only one of the two other spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. Chahal, on the back of his recent ODI and IPL performances, is likely to get the nod.

Australia, too, have a few decisions to make. Mitchell Marsh is out injured leaving an all-rounder’s slot empty in the middle-order. Marcus Stoinis could move back down the order, although his last appearance was in the top three, with Steven Smith missing their previous series against England due to concussion.

Cameron Green could also be in line for a debut, but his stress fracture history means that his bowling will be closely monitored. Australia also have six pacers in the squad. The incumbent trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins are expected to start.

Earlier this year, the two sides played an ODI series in India which the hosts won 2-1. Smith was in fine form in that series, topping the run charts with 229 runs including a hundred and a fifty. Australia won the first game of the series by a whopping 10 wickets after David Warner and Aaron Finch scored hundreds in a 256-run chase. However, India went on to win the remaining two matches to seal the series.

Steven Smith (Australia batsman): "I was pretty disappointed actually with my batting throughout the IPL. I never really got into a good rhythm, but I think the last few days actually I've found something. People close to me that know me well, I've found my hands the last few days, which I'm extremely excited about.”

KL Rahul (India batsman): "It [wicket-keeping] was challenging and it was new, but I think I got used to it [during IPL] and I started enjoying it. And hopefully, it will continue the same way here.”

Wishing the boys well.

Let's start the tour with a good competitive game of cricket. Fans have waited too long for this.

Finally 2 good teams competing. I was bored with Zimbabwe series. India is such a powerhouse team of todays. Really wish Pakistan can find its lost respect again under Babar Azam. We badly need 2 or 3 Good Batsmen to feel good again about Pak cricket.

I can see the excitement of India vs Pak. Shaheen vs Rohit
Amir Vs Kohli
Babar vs Bumrah
Shami vs Haider Ali
Hafeez vs All Indian bowlers

Australia's problem could be 5th bowling option but if Cameron Green is fully available to ball then he is rated much more highly than Stoinis and Marsh with the ball and his limited stats endorse that along with his really high batting potential.

India's weakness could be the 3rd seamer and batting depth. Saini can be decent as 3rd seamer but that would mean tail starting from 8, Thakur can bat a bit but isnt much impressive as seamer based upon what I have seen of him.

Can be a good series overall.

Finally, after a long 8 months gap!

Let the cricket prevail.

Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel and Haider Ali are the answers to that problem

I have not seen shakeel. Abdullah look calm and composed. He has alot of Mohd Yousaf in him, not comparing him but he has that style of play. HAIDER is a good prospect, but too early atm, he is another umar akmal version, lets see how he transforms himself

Yes and tickets were sold out in couple of hours. Ofcourse they will be socially distanced and not all seats went on sale.

Very shocking.

I don't about the rest of the world but Pakistan and Canada went full lockdown two days ago, shocking stuff to have a crowd.

Australia hasn’t had more than 20 cases in a day in the last 2 months. I have friends there who told me that things are pretty normal. No masks. No social distancing.

Thankfully, at least The legend Thakur isn't playing.

Would have played Gill in place of showboat Pandya who I don't think will bowl.

25,000 allowed today. Amazing what you can achieve when you take a pandemic seriously and prevent mass outbreaks.

Beauty first up from Shami. Still baffles me how he didn't play the WC SF. Up there with some of the worst selection decisions ever.

Kohli has a really long list of such atrocious selections in his kitty.

Karthik probably. Jadeja is good enough to bat at 7. Bhuvi bowled well in that game but Shami is a better ODI bowler so could've played in his place as well.
Karthik is a total waste of space. Might as well play with 10 players.

Bumrah looked to be a little rusty, might recover it in second spell, but India didn’t cash on the new ball

Great to see crowd in the stadium finally. :) Well done Cricket Australia!!

I expect two matches before India really shake the rust off.

Looks like a stunner batting wicket. Be geared up to chase 300 something today.

Aussies are a little short in batting - may be they shouldn’t have picked both Maxwell & Stoinis, one more batsman was better. This lineup might blast the Indian attack if the top four fires, but that middle order will be vulnerable against Indian spinners.

Don’t like keeping with KL in ODI, T20 is fine but keeping in ODI will stress his batting.

Not much for the bowlers but Bumrah seems to be missing out on his new bowl strength of late.

Bumrah has gone 44 overs in ODIs without taking a wicket, this is his 5th game in which he is wicketless as yet.

stoinis has an amazing record , all of his 50 plus scores in odis have come in losses.

Indians should root for him today.

Although Warner is doing a good job in his new role of a more dependable reliable man for Australia in ODI cricket but given that they have Smith, Labuschagne and Carey also good for similar roles, maybe he should look to bat more freely and aggressively the way he is actually known for.

He'll probably accelerate after crossing 50 I reckon

He is batting @ a SR of 96.

I didn't mean he is batting slow. But in a team which already has so many reliable players, Warner can maybe play that aggressor role right from the start. You know these days 300 gets chased quite often so we never know.

Warner obviously is a naturally destructive top order batsmen and if he persist with that, they might be able to keep the scoreboard moving at 6+ rpo right from the start.

This kit would actually look good if they remove those MPL and Byjus logos.

Lol shooperstar Indian team getting phainty.3-0 coming up and 4-0 in tests as well.loving this
