Don't think they can win, but you never know. After the last Ashes Test here I've learned to wait till I see how the OZ are bowling in the 2nd innings before making any foolish predictions.

But if they were to win, it would take an outstanding batting effort and a poor bowling one from the OZ. The problem when MJ is your main wicket taking threat is that it's very difficult to make predictions as he is so inconsistent. He could very well bowl pies today. Draw is still possible if rain interferes.

Last time when Eng drew it here bowling was different. I think Ryan will take some wickets. It's different issue how well others bowl though.

True. The general perception of Cook amongst informed England fans is that when he is not in good batting form and leading by example that way, then largely due to his own lack of tactical nous he is not contributing a great deal to the team. He implements mostly basic, mediocre and unimaginative field settings and lets Anderson, Broad and Swann amend the closer positions if they want, while Flower essentially selects the XI. Therefore in situations like this he can look rather impotent.

I hope swann goes to him and say, "listen bud I don't need all the fielders on the boundary. Bring them in so I can bowl 6 damn balls to one batsman!"

Yes if I recall correctly the weather conditions in Brisbane weren't conducive to it being the usual Gabba wicket. I really think the Gabba's one of the best Test wickets in the world, because if you apply yourself you can make heaps of runs but it will always offer something for the bowlers, both seam and swing depending on weather, and has enough bounce for the spinners (especially legspinners).

Root is bowling after lunch. It seems Cook thinks that Root will get some turn. I would have liked to see best bowlers putting aggressive 10 overs rather than starting with part timers after lunch. Batsmen will settle down and then bringing main bowlers will be less effective.

Harris is your best bowler not MJ.

I know that. I was talking about MJ's spell which was what blew the Poms away. Harris will always take wickets but MJ is hot and cold.

I haven't seen warnie this happy since he retired lol

It was very interesting to hear Warne vocally saying that Clarke has no problem with short balls and then English commentator replying , let's wait and see in the next test. A game was going on outside of field as well.

I personally agree with Warne that problem with Clarke is not generic but a very specific one.

Anderson is creating trouble here. Warner on 99. Hope next over is not Root.

So stupid to see no close-in fielders when Warner is having issues on 99. Cook is a poor captain.

Well, deserved century for Warner.

Ton for Davey. He nutted up a bit in the 99s though lol

Good century. Bit of Michael Slater about him in the 90s though

OZ effectively 2/341. I think it's going to be very tough now but another 100 runs will bat England out of the game completely. Should look to declare when the lead hits 450 or halfway through the final session if rain is predicted. It could backfire if the weather stays away but I would like to have a lot of overs for them to bowl England out.

What's the forecast like Connie? I know you're in WA but do they reckon it's going to rain tomorrow and Monday and if so how much for?

Chappelli giving Viru a shoutout for helping Davey focus on Test cricket lol

If current pair can bat with decent rate then after 75-100 runs, Aus should bat for another 10 overs in T-20 mode. Take the lead to 500+ and put Eng for the last 15 overs or so.

I've heard elsewhere that most of the rain is going to be overnight and that what showers do happen will be very brief and won't kill much time.

Maybe bat till stumps and declare overnight then. Hopefully it stops raining a few minutes before the start of play. Given how freely they are batting now we may need a couple of days to bowl the Poms out.

Is it coincidence that Warner and Johnno have great moustaches and are dominating?

I think not.

Swanny approaching his ton at an economy rate of 5

David Warner's scores since Oct 17: 139, 138, 32, 197, 14, 21, 15, 104, 51*, 52, 21, 49, 110*

Obviously including the domestic stuff

They're treating Swann like he was Ashley Giles

56 overs left , would be interesting at what point Aussies declare .

Will they have a go at Poms for at least 4 - 5 overs .

Clarke understands the psychology of Test cricket better than Ponting did. He's more in the Steve Waugh mould of trying to demoralize the opposition so much at the start of the series and to instill some confidence in his own players that the opposition is beatable. I reckon he wants to really grind England into the dirt here. Whether the team can do it is another story, but I reckon he doesn't just want a win, he wants a BIG win.

Too bad he's not half the batsmen #needsaflatwicket

No, make em bowl all day and half of tomorrow. Wear Broad and Anderson out.

*post assumes we can bat for that long

Broad has his man, good knock from Warner. Match winning knock?

So the wicket isn't flat? Just some poor batting from both sides the pitch looks a belter.

Don't think it's flat. But it's not a minefield by any means. Just your typical Gabba wicket which offers something for the bowlers but where you can score a lot of runs if you apply yourself, which Pup and Warner and Haddin have done. It's not the Adelaide Oval which IS flat, or the MCG. England have been very poor this innings though as I speak Bambi removes Warner.

Good effort from Bambi though, been England's MOM by a mile

Smith out for a duck. Still something in the wicket it looks like. Push the lead to 450 then declare I reckon unless we are bowled all out first

Ryan: "Lead over 400, a score which England didn't manage to make once against Australia even in their last home series." They haven't made 400 since the Wellington Test in March
