Poms opted to chase under light at MCG!!!

Brave call, must say.

Aus 106/3 * (18.5/50 ov)

Finch 57* off 69

Here is a little thing teams may not have noticed. Smith tends to get out to spinners that take the ball away from him. How come England missed the trick in Test series. In All formats he has got out to

Jadeja 6 times
Herath 6 times
Yasir Shah 6 times
Rashid 4 times

Moeen got him 5 times. would love to see what kind of balls got him.

Chasing is standard in white-ball cricket because the information advantage of knowing exactly what you need is huge.

They are bowling very well.

Aussies have the best mix of players available. First class pacers and hard hitting batsmen, pretty much all you need for the format. Kinda dry on spinners and good keeper batsmen, but their line up of heavy hitters makes up for the fact that they're keeper is usually a bum batsman.

Looks like a chase of around 300. Wood and Moeen have bowled superbly. Could be a close game.

Should be close - those 2 strikes around 200 mark cost around 20. ENG have to manage Zampa in middle overs.

Aus set a stiff target for Eng in the 1st ODI as they score 304/8 (50 ov) after being put into bat by England;Aaron Finch (107), M Marsh (50) and M Stoinis (60) starred for Aus, whilst Liam Plunkett (3/71) and Adil Rashid (2/73) were the best performers for Eng #AUSvEng #Cricket

Good to see Moeen back on track. Needs a good showing with the bat as well.

England should be very disappointed if they do not win this game.

Chasing 300 + in Australian grounds against Australian bowlers is hard even in this era. Don't think even England's explosive lineup will find it easy here. Need to bat out of their skins. Will be a record at the MCG i think.

Australia look a lot weaker than they were in the WC.

Is this a first XI?

Anyway, England off to a flying start. They should cruise it with this start.

They should cruise it from here, no scoreboard pressure whatsoever and a reasonably easy chase.

This is quite the thrashing. Starc and Cummins getting belted.

6 an over across the innings is definitely doable. Great start too.

I have no idea what Cummins and Starc are trying to do.

Bowling with no plan. Should have kept it simple with the new ball but they've gone searching for wickets and have bowled all over the place.

Best in the world Convict :)))

England reach 44/0 * (3.4/50 ov, target 305); Solid start for the visitors with Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow looking to take the game away from Aus in quick time! #AUSvEng #Cricket

Australia have been in steady decline in ODIs since the World Cup. Mainly because Starc has not been as good as he used to be. He was legendary from 2013-2015, has been merely good since. Of course, injuries haven't helped either.

They need Maxwell back and Watson has been an unmentioned loss as well.

I am in two minds about whether Pakistani batsmen should watch this display by England. Instead of getting inspired they might become downright morose when looking at the gulf in class

Smacking Patrick joke Cummins like he should be smacked.

Three test series made him look better than the he is.
Overhyped to the max

Yeah, Starc's name has rarely come up since the WC. Not sure about their best team as they always tend to chop and change so you never know who's first team quality and who isn't.

Honestly, all of the teams they've put up since the WC Final have been average. Haddin for all his flaws was better than hacks like Paine and Wade. Watto also was certain to score 30-50 and could provide some good overs.

I don't think Aus are good enough to win next year.

India, Pakistan (they're a tournament team and may get some sluggish wickets), SA and England will be favorites.

Don't seem the making the finals in England next year.

Pakistan have had their moment in the Champions Trophy. A humiliating World Cup is on the cards for us and deservedly so.

England (if they don't choke), India are the two favorites in my view, and NZ can make it to the final again as well.

South Africa will choke. It is not a question of if.

Cummins has always gotten hammered whenever I've seen him play ODI cricket.

Why on earth does he get in the side ahead of Hazlewood and Pattinson?

IMO India are strong favorites, Pakistan are the dark horses that can make the final if they click. SA, England and possibly NZ are the chokers/bottlers.

Usually I wouldn't give us that label, but we've really messed up some series we should have won.

And Australia are not a tournament team? Two years before the last World Cup, OZ were going nowhere in ODI"s and see how dominant they were in the CWC. Lol at India and Pakistan being favourites. India don't have the batting or bowling to win 3 knockouts in a row. Pakistan actually can win if they get rid of Azhar/Hafeez/Malik and get wickets which aid spin/reverse like in the CT. But i think such pitches are unlikely next year. SA are not a great ODI side these days. The top 3 sides for the World Cup are actually England/OZ/NZ with OZ being the most well rounded of the 3.

It is unfair to call NZ chokers. Prior to 2015, apart from 1992, they never really had a good enough team to go all the way, but they still managed to punch above their weight.

The 2015 World Cup SF was the most high pressure ODI match in NZ history, and they prevailed. Had the final been in NZ, they could have possibly won - at least it wouldn't have been so one-sided.

Australia will be lucky to win a match in the WC, they are the worst team ion ODI cricket at the moment. Top teams would be NZ, PAK and ENG followed by IND and SA.

The previous teams weren't chokers but this team might be. They lost series in England and India they which should have won - dropped Bairstow right at the death which would have won the match, then Colin running out Latham in India which would have been a historic win for us.

This team just lacks quality all round, I know Pakistan are the same but I feel better about their chances than this Australian team.

I agree with you on Auatralia but Pakistan are very poor right now. They will be trashed by most teams

Giggle snorted

Man when England get it right, they are arguably the most exciting LOI team to watch. Not sure why they disturbed the Roy-Hales partnership. Possibly the most destructive pair right now.

Bairstow is a better and more assured than Hales, he has proven that recently.

Forget Pattinson. They have Hazlewood, Stanlake and a young bloke called Richardson. Plenty of pace prospects and Zampa is a good enough leggie.

Roy has really smashed Starc and Cummins!
England’s Flat track batting is really amazing.

The problem is their batting, not at the same level as SA/ENG/IND

How can we look so good in ODIs and be so bad in Tests... this is like the complete opposite of 15 years ago.

We picked the wrong side in the tests. Why was poor Ballance even there? Wood and Plunkett should have played in the Ashes, and I would have had Hales in for Vince.

Man if this was Amir in Starc's place, going at 7.8 RPO defending 305, his dignity would have been ripped to pieces by the 'fans' by now.

English limited overs cricket talents is in booming state currently . They have problem of plenty due to too many options.
I hope they settle with quality bowling attack till 2019 worldcup comes.

Or maybe they dont take the JAMODIS not so serious he?

Sure maybe first check ENG record in icc games. Pak will show up IF things are right. 3 icc trophies ans several finals and semi finals prove that.

Roy is playing a beast innings, could be on for the England ODI record here (think it is 173)

Averages 47.48 at a strike rate of 101.90 in the last 2 years, why exactly would you be dropping him?
David Malan is a better batsman.

Anyway he will be dropped once Ben Strokes comes back

Have to say this has been a pretty entertaining match to watch. Don't know the last time I said that about a JAMODI

Prolly only non-ICC event ODI match in last 3-4 years that I've watched more than 75% of.

Yes. Good opportunity to just launch on from here

Hales has 174 I think in the 430 odd match against Pak

Lol at KP taking credit for Jason Roy's turnaround

What a narcissist

Roy passes Hales to get the highest England ODI score.

Well done England, at last something to smile about! Batted Roy, batted Rooty.

I know they lost quick wickets at the end but, what a massive win. Good to see Roy once again involved in the run-making. Root being Root is hardly surprising. Good England win this.

Credit to England. That was a good chase. Chasing 300 in Australia under lights versus that attack isn't easy .
