After a disappointing start to the series, Pakistan will be aiming to restore some pride with a series-levelling win against a confident Bangladesh in the second Test in Rawalpindi, starting Friday (August 30).

The 10-wicket defeat on home soil came despite Pakistan's confident first-innings declaration, with nearly 450 runs on the board, on what were some of the most batting-friendly conditions. However, after conceding a 117-run lead, Pakistan faltered in the second innings, collapsing for just 146. The defeat not only exposed the vulnerabilities in their batting lineup but also highlighted the tactical error of fielding an all-pace attack. Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan capitalized, sharing seven wickets between them, to secure Bangladesh's first-ever win against Pakistan in Pakistan.

In response, the hosts have recalled several players after rethinking their pace-only strategy for the first Test. Legspinner Abrar Ahmed, who took a four-wicket haul in the practice game against Bangladesh A, is expected to be a straightforward inclusion in the playing XI as Pakistan seeks to bounce back. Meanwhile, pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi, who left for the birth of his child, has been left out of the squad.

Despite their historic win, Bangladesh will need to guard against overconfidence as they aim to secure a series victory. A determined Pakistan is expected to give everything to level the series.

This is a difficult one.. Bangladesh are not that likeable. But still, Pakistan losing a series at home to Bangladesh Trump's everything. So let's go Bangladesh and make some history.
Pakistan must be really itching for a fightback though..

I have just checked weather forecast of Rawalpindi today.

It is showing rain.

Looks like we will hardly get 5-6 sessions in entire test match. Pak is loosing this series. Along with that the chapter of Babar, Shaheen, Shaan should be closed in this format.

Any update from the ground

If day 1 washedout. Then it's very much possibility Bangladesh can get away with draw if it's flat deck.

Rawalpindi is worst drainage system ground that we saw in 1st test. We lost two session in day 1 of 1st test in bright sunny day. Imagine what will be happen on rainy condition. There will be defenete delay

This is Pakistan's fault and brought this upon themselves.

First a loss in the first test and now play is not possible due to rain, unable to level the series..

How you know before the ball being bowled?

Nature of the pitch, past history even a Test against Australia here was a dull draw..unless Pakistan has been able to change the nature of the pitch within 4-5 days and have converted it into a Turner. Can't afford to lose valuable play time to rain on this pitch atleast if a result has to be enforced.

Bangladesh head coach, Chandika Hathurusinghe speaking during an interview:

"The morale is good for obvious reasons. Beating Pakistan in Pakistan is no easy task. They are a really good and strong team. Still, we expect a really good fight in the second game as well. We might make a few changes depending on the conditions tomorrow when we look at the pitch. We didn't get to see the pitch today as it was covered, and the weather is slightly different from the last game,"

"We talked about spending time in the middle, getting their fast bowlers to bowl second and third spells. That mindset changed, the approach was different, and our game plan was slightly altered because of the conditions. That helped a lot to put up a good show with the bat,"

Everywhere you go, always take the weather with you.

Even the heavens are weaping for pakistan

Bangladesh will love this weather. They will be more than happy with a draw here rather than playing a game which will be interrupted by rain more often.

Rain may be the blessing in disguise for Pakistan. If they manage to win the toss and put Bangladesh to bat first, they may have a very good chance to bowl out Bangladesh for a less than ideal score.
Bangladesh on the other hand, need to see out those initial overs.
All this will be invalid if Bangladesh win the toss and decide to bowl first. Pakistan should be very careful then. Rizwan Will not save them every time.

Cricket Teams of Pakistan and Bangladesh have NOT travelled from hotel to Pindi Cricket Stadium due to unlikely chances of any game today due to heavy rain.

Ironically, if we win the toss an bowl first, maybe we should actually play 4-pacers since the remaining days are scheduled to be overcast hahah

Can Pakistan win a test in 4 days?

Bangladesh are probably just chillin' - all the pressure is on Pakistan.

Hold on to your seatbelts and be prepared for the the intelligency galores in 'Yah weather is not in our hands so...'.

As expected.

The first day’s play of the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has been called off due to persistent rain and wet outfield.

Really? From cricinfo, I can see that, session 1 is abandoned and lunch is taken.

Oh, now I can see it as Stumps.

Well done Bangladesh for your first series win fully deserved. I think Naqvi should cancel all our rest assignments as it could get embarassing. We need to invite the USA and take revenge for our defeat in the world cup.
Let em complete the karachi stadium renovation, will ya? There are millions tied in commission payments.

Tough night ahead for the Groundsmen to get the ground match ready by tomorrow since for the next two days there will be less interruptions so Pakistan should be able to make maximum use of the playing time and level the series. Its a race against time.

Even 3 days/ 9 Sessions would be enough for Pakistan to enforce a result here, as long as the batters show urgency, pitch is spicy and Cloud cover exists .

This test is already heading towards a draw and Bangladesh is winning the series 1-0. Day 4 and 5 are also not looking good for a game.

So if this game is washed out , Bangladesh win the series 1-0, beating Pakistan on their home ground.

Well done, Bangladesh.

Pakistan should take inspiration from this match.

At the End Of Day 3 : Pakistan - 188/2 in 63.2 overs (Azhar Ali 52, Babar Azam 71)

Still managed to secure a victory even if only 63.2 overs were played for the First 3 days.

I think they will need to win it in 2 days
a lot of rain is scheduled on day 4 & 5, so they could be washed out as well

In that case, congrats to Bangladesh for their first series win against Pakistan.

I have a feeling we may see a delayed start on Day 2.

During Day 1 of 1st Test, there was no rain but only 41 overs were possible due to a wet outfield.

Let's see what happens this time.

Congrats to Bangladesh. A great series win. Pakistan officially a third tier side. Better get ready to play Ireland and Netherlands in test matches. This losing run is just what our overhyped so called superstars deserve

Ngl the T20I series against Ireland was competitive. The game against USA was also competitive. Pakistan lost in a super over.

These nations, including Zimbabwe should be called to Pakistan to play a Tri series or a mini tournament. The games will be very competitive

Some people are underestimating the Pakistan team here. The cornered tigers in them may inspire them to punch above their weights and beat Bangladesh in this Test.

The fact that you're claiming Pakistan has to punch > Their weight to beat Bangladesh of all teams shows that we are clearly NOT UNDERESTIMATING them.

Zaka Ashraf takes over and first thing he does is put a 28 average club grade batter as a test captain :ROFLMAO:

Shan needs to resign as captain after this series and needs to be dropped.

I was very shocked when Shan became the captain. His position was never established in the team.

I guess they went with him because there were not many captaincy options.

I guess they went with him because there were not many captaincy options.

They went with him because Zaka like PPP are corrupt goons who only understand the language of parchi and bribery.

They have destroyed every institution they have gotten their hands on. Just look at the state of Karachi and Sindh. Looks worse than Botswana.

@Asad T forecast for day 2 & 3 seems clear [ do ask the local boys here ] . If BD bat first , I expect them to be all out under 200 !

Why do you think BD will be all out for under 200 on a flat Rawalpindi pitch?

They scored 560+ and 30/0 in 1st Test. What has changed?

Shaheen Shah Afridi released from Test squad

Rawalpindi, 30 August 2024:

The team management has decided to release Shaheen Shah Afridi from the Test squad to allow him to spend time with his family. Shaheen, who featured in the first Test against Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from 20 to 25 August, is not part of the 12-member squad announced on Thursday for the second Test match.

polite way of saying dropped !!! Hear what Dizzy said yesterday trying to cover up ...

Really wanted to see the play on Day 1. The pitch does genuinely look good for fast bowling. Pakistan has selected the right combo for 12. Unfortunately the rain is forcing a draw but I believe this will be entertaining game.

Bold Prediction - If the play is not interrupted in this Test match anymore then Pakistan will win this.

Pakistan have no hope, this pop gun pace attack is not capable of taking 20 wickets period and that too in 4 days.

in other words PCB is not courageous enough to say that they have dropped their spoiled child.

That outfield looks poor. Huge patches of surface water. If the drainage system at the ground is not the best, then this could turn out to be a fairly straightforward drawn game.

Bangladesh will create history, Alas the lowest point in Pakistan cricket

Apparently the sun is out in Pindi today. According to our man on the ground.

He will let us know about the outfield shortly
