'Elections have been 100% fair and transparent,' says CEC in response to rigging allegations

Polling time ended in Pakistan's hotly contested 11th general elections at 6pm on Wednesday and hours later — with counting of votes still underway — PTI supporters across the country started early celebrations in anticipation of their party's victory amid allegations of fraud by the former ruling PML-N and other political parties.

Preliminary, unofficial results started coming in sporadically from 7pm onward after a long and eventful day of voting. A clear lead, however, had not emerged by early Thursday morning as the Election Commission of Pakistan reported "technical difficulties".

Holding a press conference at 4am on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Muhammad Raza Khan congratulated the people of Pakistan for participating in the democratic polling process, and expressed gratitude for the polling staff across the country.

“I am aware that the delay in announcement of results has caused some annoyance. But it [Results Transmission System (RTS)] was a new system and we were implementing it for the first time. Therefore, there was some delay,” said the CEC.

Regarding political parties' grievances about polling agents not being given Form 45, he said: "It is not possible that a polling agent was not given the form. If there are any genuine complaints, we will take strict action."

To a question asking him how he would respond to allegations of rigging in the election, the CEC confidently replied: "We will prove ourselves that we did our job right."

He announced what he called the "first non-official, preliminary result" of the elections: PTI's Chaudhry Adnan won PP-11 (Rawalpindi VI) with 43,089 votes.

Based on reporting of 42 per cent of polling stations, PTI is leading on 112 seats, while the PML-N trails behind with 65 and the PPP is at third spot with 43 seats.

In Punjab, with preliminary results from 40pc polling stations available with ECP, PML-N is currently holding its lead on 132 provincial seats but PTI is closing in with a lead on 121 seats.

Meanwhile, PTI is clearly steering ahead in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a lead on 66 seats against Mutahidda Majlis-i-Amal, which is currently leading on 10 seats, as per reporting from 35pc polling stations in the province.

According to Geo News, Awami National Party leader Ghulam Ahmed Bilour conceded defeat to PTI's Shaukat Ali, his competitor on Peshawar's NA-31 seat, saying: "The results indicate that Imran Khan is a favourite leader of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. I am a democratic person and I admit the defeat."

Counting is still going on at the polling stations of different constituencies.

DELAY IN RESULTS
Earlier, while talking to the media a little before 2:30am, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob rejected the notion that there was any 'conspiracy' behind the delay in transmission of elections results. "The only reason for delay was a technical fault in the Results Transmission System (RTS), which stopped working when thousands of polling officers began using it simultaneously," he clarified.

He made it clear that the election body had so far not released any official results. Yaqoob said that the complaints by political parties regarding katchi receipts were being addressed and action would be taken on all genuine complaints.

He added that the ECP is compiling results that have been received via scanned copies of Form 45 and it had set aside the RTS for the time being to expedite the collation of polling data.

Earlier, an ECP spokesperson had confirmed to DawnNewsTV that the delay was due to the breaking down of RTS, which is being run through a software powered by National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra).

According to AFP, Gallup Pakistan estimated voter turnout at between 50 to 55 per cent in an electorate of nearly 106 million — similar to the previous contest in 2013.

According to data released by ECP, a total of 3,459 candidates — 1,623 from Punjab, 824 from Sindh, 725 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 287 from Balochistan — were cleared to run for the 272 general seats of the national assembly. However, elections in two constituencies — NA-60, NA-108 — were later postponed by the commission.

A single party will need to bag at least 137 of the directly elected seats to be able to form the government on its own.

In the event that a party is unable to secure a “simple majority”, there is a hung parliament. This is when no single party can make government, leaving room for the formation of a coalition government of winning candidates from various political parties.

PML-N, PPP CRY FOUL
PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif at a mid-vote count press conference said his party rejects the poll results. In a tweet, he said the party had rejected the results "due to manifest and massive irregularities".

"Form-45 was not given to our agents, results were stopped and votes were counted in the absence of our polling agents. This is both unbearable and unacceptable," he said.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also tweeted saying he had not received any official results from any constituency where he was contesting, despite it being past midnight. "My candidates [have been] complaining [that] polling agents have been thrown out of polling stations across the country. Inexcusable and outrageous."

PPP's Sherry Rehman also claimed that "there has been a clear trend of interference, in which all parties except one are being pushed to the wall".

"The whole election could be declared null and void considering just what has occurred over the last three hours," she said, adding that the party expects its complaints to be addressed by midnight.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, while speaking to the media, raised objections over the counting process and alleged that the party's agents were being forced out from the polling stations in various constituencies.

“The counting process is being carried out behind closed doors and changes are being made to Form-45,” Aurangzeb alleged while talking to media persons.

In response, the provincial election commissioner in Punjab categorically denied the allegations levelled by PML-N. “Political leaders should refrain from levelling such baseless allegations without having any substantial proof,” the ECP official said.

Explaining the process, the election commissioner clarified that only one polling agent of every party is allowed inside the polling station at the time of counting of votes.

PPP's Maula Bux Chandio alleged that his party's agents were not allowed inside polling stations in Badin while PSP leader Raza Haroon made the same claim about the treatment meted out to his party's agents at different polling stations across Karachi.

The PPP, according to APP, had registered over 240 complaints with the ECP regarding deliberate delay in the polling process to restrict maximum number of people to cast their votes, restriction of polling agents' presence during the vote counting process and non-provision of Form 45 by polling staff to the agents in time.

VOTE COUNT PROCESS
Votes dropped in the ballot boxes are being manually counted by presiding officers and assistants present in polling booths.

After the count, officers will transfer these boxes into sealed bags provided by the ECP.

The bags will then handed over to the Returning Officer (RO) who will give them to the District Returning Officer (DRO). The DRO will then submit them to the ECP's offices or storage houses: green bag for NA, white for PA and blue for unverified votes.

Forms 45 and 46 will be filled for every NA and PA seat by the Presiding Officer. These forms contain data of every candidate with their names as well as how many votes they received. The results data can also be shared with the polling agents and candidates present at the stations.

The Presiding Officer will take a screenshot of both forms and upload them onto the Results Transmission System, an Android application which enables election officers to send the results to the ECP in real time.

MILLIONS FLOCK TO POLLS

Millions of registered voters flocked to polling stations across the country today to cast their vote in Pakistan’s 11th general election. According to DawnNewsTV, the first vote was cast in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Charsadda district.

Halfway during polling, the PML-N sent a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, seeking an extension in time by one hour. "The PML-N is making this demand under Section 70 of the Elections Act 2017, which authorises ECP to 'extend polling hours already fixed'," read the letter, signed by Senator Mushahid Hussain.

Citing "large-scale nationwide complaints", the letter added that only "3-4 people" are being allowed to enter the polling station at one time, slowing down the process. "This is not only causing inconvenience to voters [...] but may also end up depriving people from their right of vote."

PPP, PTI and Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rashid had also requested the ECP to extend the polling time.

The ECP, after deliberation, rejected the requests for an extension of one hour. In a press release, the ECP said that all those who were present at polling stations before 6pm would be allowed to cast their votes.

Earlier in the day, before polling stations officially opened for voting at 8am, enthusiastic citizens had queued up outside their respective stations as early as 7am.

At 371,388, a record number of troops were deployed at polling stations at the ECP’s request to maintain law and order and take action against harassment. A total of 8,508 polling stations and 244,687 polling booths were established across the country.

Around 17,007 polling stations were declared "highly sensitive".

PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was among the first people today to cast his vote. Speaking to the media outside the polling station in Model Town, Lahore, he requested that people come out and vote for PML-N.

Other politicians and candidates, including former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah, MQM-P's Farooq Sattar, Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Chairman Mustafa Kamal, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Bilawal Bhutto and JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also took part in the polling process.

ECP spokesperson said that the commission has issued a notice to Khan, saying his vote could be disqualified after he cast his ballot in front of television cameras, violating “the secrecy of the ballot paper”, AP reported.

VIOLENCE ON ELECTION DAY
Reports of violence surfaced in various areas including Quetta, Larkana, Khuzdar, Swabi, and Kohistan ─ despite the deployment of 800,000 security forces across the country.

The polling process was temporarily halted at Quetta's Tameer-i-Nau Educational Complex school in the NA-260 constituency, where a suicide blast near a polling station around 11am left at least 31 people dead and 30 others injured.

Also in Balochistan, a grenade attack at a polling station in Koshk village in Khuzdar left a policeman dead and three others injured, according to AFP.

In Naseerabad, firing at a polling station left two people injured, DawnNewsTV reported.

Earlier, in a village in Swabi, a shooting between supporters of two rival political parties left one person dead and two people wounded, according to AP.

Clashes were also reported in Mardan, Rajanpur, Khipro and Kohistan. Polling was reportedly halted in Kohistan.

Polling was also halted at a school in Larkana serving as a polling station, where a cracker blast left three people injured.

According to the army's media wing, a military protection party accompanying NA-271 polling staff from Balochistan's Buleda area was ambushed at Dastuk near the Pak-Iran border on Tuesday night.

Security forces foiled the attempted attack and moved polling staff to a designated place, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release.

However, three security forces' personnel were martyred in the exchange of fire. They were identified as Sepoy Imran, 21, from Dera Bugti, Sepoy Jahanzeb, 25, from Chakwal, and Sepoy Akmal, 23, from Haripur.

A school teacher, Safiullah, who was serving as polling staff, was also killed, while 14 others, including 10 security personnel and four civilians, were injured.

Ten people who sustained serious wounds were evacuated to Karachi, while those who sustained minor injuries were evacuated to District Headquarters Hospital Turbat.

Polling continued at the polling station as planned, ISPR said.

THE CANDIDATES
Independents outnumber candidates fielded by political parties

The battle is set to come down to three parties: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).

In all, 11,673 candidates are in the run, 3,428 for National Assembly and 8,245 for provincial assembly seats.

The statistics shared with the media reveal that independent candidates outnumber the candidates fielded by political parties. The number of candidates fielded by parties is 5,661 while the number of independent candidates in the race is 6,012.

For National Assembly seats, 1,623 candidates are in the race, 1,805 of them fielded by political parties and 1,623 independents. KP is the only province where the number of independent candidates for National Assembly seats is higher than those fielded by parties.

For National Assembly seats, parties have fielded 820 candidates in Punjab, 441 in Sindh, 335 in KP, 173 in Balochistan and 36 in the federal capital. The number of independent candidates for National Assembly seats includes 714 from Punjab, 373 from Sindh, 386 from KP, 117 from Balochistan and 33 from the federal capital.

For provincial assembly seats, 8,245 candidates are in the running ─ 3,856 fielded by parties and 4,389 contesting independently.

The number of independent candidates running for the Punjab and Sindh assemblies is higher than party ticket holders. As many as 2,256 independents and 1,719 party ticket holders are contesting Punjab Assem*bly seats while 1,186 independents and 993 party candidates are in the run for Sindh Assembly seats. In KP and Balochistan there are 675 and 469 party ticket holders and 470 and 477 independents, respectively.

Of the 120 parties enlisted with the ECP, 95 are contesting elections and seven of these 95 parties have failed to meet the mandatory requirement of awarding five per cent party tickets for general seats to women.

THE VOTERS
There are 105,955,409 registered voters, including 59,222,927 male, 46,730,569 female voters besides 1,913 transgender voters, of whom 1,356 are in Punjab alone.

The data shows that 17,443,094 voters forming over 10 per cent of the total are in the age bracket of 18-25 years. This means they will be exercising their right to franchise for the first time. Another 28,995,231 voters are aged between 26 and 35 years.

As many as 215,527 of the voters are suffering from physical disabilities, 163,995 of them male and 52,432 female. The ECP has announced the people with disabilities would be able to avail the postal ballot facility and those who choose to go to polling stations should be allowed to vote on priority basis, without making them to wait in the queue. The ECP has trained polling staff to sensitively deal with such voters.

The total number of voters belonging to religious minorities comes to 3,362,016, which includes 1,864,800 male and 1,497,216 female voters.

Curtain falls on campaigns
PTI, PML-N confident of victory
Election campaigns came to a close on Monday night — as directed by the ECP — with PML-N and PTI leadership rounding off their campaigns by predicting victory for themselves.

On the last day of canvassing, PTI chief Imran Khan addressed four meetings in Lahore, PML-N president Shahbaz Sharif concluded his party’s election campaign by holding a public meeting in Dera Ghazi Khan. PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari addressed people in Shahdatkot, Garhi Khairi, Jacobabad, Shikarpur and Garhi Yasin before going to the graves of former prime ministers Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

“Despite all odds PML-N is winning the July 25 polls. We will form the government at the Centre and in Punjab as our victory is certain,” said Sharif addressing the crowd in D.G. Khan. He urged the people to vote for his party to “free Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz from jail”.

Khan addressed rallies at strategic points in Lahore to prop up his party’s chances. One of his rallies was organised in the constituency from where he himself is a contestant, facing a big challenge from tough-talking PML-N’s Khawaja Saad Rafique. “This is the time to change your destiny. You must come out to vote on July 25. You must bring others out to vote on the day,” he thundered.

CONTROVERSIAL POLLS
Questions raised about 'free and fair' elections
The general election has been criticised by some quarters for not being “free and fair".

Questions have been raised over the role of the armed forces in the polling process; restrictions being placed on the media; participation of banned groups; NAB pressure on election candidates as well as the detention of political workers in the run-up to the polls.

Days ahead of the polls, former Senate chairman and PPP stalwart Raza Rabbani hit out at the ECP’s "criminal silence" over perceived irregularities in the run-up to the polls, warning of "dire consequences" for the government if the elections are "engineered".

Survey findings
A public opinion survey conducted by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and the Herald magazine shows that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) enjoys a slim lead at the national level over the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).This lead of 4 percentage points is outside the survey’s national margin of error – + 1.3 percentage points.

The Herald-SDPI survey finds that 14 per cent of the respondents in Punjab remain undecided. It is this group of voters that will clearly determine the final result of the 2018 election.

This finding is consistent with the polls conducted by Gallup and Pulse Consultants during May 2018 which also show that undecided voters hold the election in Punjab in the balance.

Elections in Pakistan are never 100% transparent and fair. However I do not believe that these are comparable to 1997 or 1977 and even 2013 where there was massive rigging even if PMLn would have won regardless

I see a lot of comments on social media and newsites about the vote count not taking place in front of the party observers. Is this how Imran wants to be the PM of Pakistan ?!

In 1997, NS had massive victory, neutral and left thought. GHQ is heavily involved, even back in 1988, Benezir was suppose to win easily but there was a hand to ensure no strong mandate by GHQ...

In 2013, NS has 70+ seats swing, that raised eyebrow for everybody, fingers are always pointed to one player, when such a thing happen in Pakistan. People shred it’s because of Zardari and Galani corruption, those corruption charges go no where. After 3 years, Galani was charged for absolutely nothing.

Now in this election, everybody knows for a while, GHQ want to establish IK as a player in Punjab, because NS is not inline with Army’s vision. It’s strange issue, Shahbaz is still inline with boots. It’s NS and specially MN which is major source of concern for Army. That’s why they had to rebuild a entire new party in Punjab, that was the case in 1988 and most of the 90s, they had to kill PPP from Punjab.

Interestingly it’s central and southern Punjab that swings. PPP or NS has only made govt when they won there, otherwise northern Punjab and Sindh is always won by NS and PPP respectively, even today those seats are intact by and large.

For all three elections 1997,2013 and 2018 southern Punjab massively Swung to the party which everybody was expecting to win and had endorsement of GHQ, and had lot of jor toor before election. Those were the reasons people were expecting major rigging like in past. That’s why I said many times, it’s not a Naya Pakistan, it’s old game by an experienced player, just paint job is new 😉

Although it’s not like player is very smart, as you can see there methods are well exposed, but he has nobody to challenge him. Now the cycle of Dharnas, bycots, iggatations will go on for another 5 years...she said, he said or cat fighting between politicians will happen, while the true king will drive all policies of the country, as they are doing for last 40 years...After 5 years, same **** again, just players will be flipped... and some how people will again be focused on politicians, and looking for magical solutions there 🤨🤨

Shahbaz Sharif says the country has gone 30 years back.

He knows it because they were ruling the country for the last 30 years along with PPP.

EU mission terms election satisfactory, calls it better than 2013

https://www.dawn.com/news/1422911#comments

ISLAMABAD: The chief observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Pakistan, Michael Gahler, has said that apart from a few incidents of terrorism, the overall situation of the general election was satisfactory.

“Our observers visited as many as 300 polling stations in 87 constituencies and I have personally visited four polling stations. Though we will release our preliminary report on Friday and a detailed report will be released later after assessing the overall situation, there is improvement as compared to the previous election held in 2013,” he said while talking to reporters outside Ammar Khan Shaheed Model School for Boys in Sector G-10/3 on Wednesday.

He said that as many as 50 recommendations were given by the mission after the 2013 elections, out of which 36 were implemented or included in the electoral law.

When asked that some political parties were complaining that they were not given a level playing field, Mr Gahler said that the mission could not get access for a month due to which it was mostly depending on media reports.

He said that according to his assessment, the army was deployed under a code of conduct and it was strictly following it.

Mr Gahler also visited a polling station and asked a number of questions from presiding officer Muhammad Yousuf, who is a faculty member at the Federal Urdu University.

Earlier, while visiting Islamabad Model College for Girls F-6/2, Mr Gahler said that as many as 60 EU observers were working across the country, apart from Balochistan and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

“We have observed smooth polling and many of our recommendations seem to be implemented and the security situation seems improved. However, we condemn the incident of Quetta where people who were electing their future leadership was attacked,” he said.

“This is a deplorable and cowardly attack on a day when voters across Pakistan should be casting their ballots in a peaceful environment, without fear or hindrance,” said Mr Gahler.

“Violence must not undermine the elections and the democratic process. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and the people of Pakistan,” he added.

C’wealth group condemns Quetta attack

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Commonwealth Observer Group, General Abdulsalami A. Abubakar, condemned the suicide attack that occurred near a polling station in Quetta on Wednesday in which at least 31 people lost their lives and many others were injured.

Mr Abubakar offered condolences to the grieving families and hoped for quick recovery of the injured.

“This attack must not undermine the democratic exercise currently under way in Pakistan. We continue to stand in solidarity with the people of Pakistan today as they exercise their [right to] franchise,” he said.

I am a government servant. I was assigned duty as Polling Officer at one one of the Polling Stations of NA-138 Karachi. I can confirm that this time there was no rigging. Two Army and one Air Force Jawans performed security duties with us. Two police constables were also there. Voting started at 8am and continued till 6pm without break. Armed forces personnels remained inside and outside polling station and did not allow any unknown person to do anything silly. Besides this, Polling agents remained in polling station till announcement of result.

We had no doubts.

There will always be allegations here and there but in its entriety, these have been fairest elections.

Yes there was, but like 2013, the party that had the election rigged in its favor won convincingly enough for the rigging to not have a major impact on the outcome.

In other words, the results of the 2013 and 2018 elections would not have been different without rigging.

KARACHI: Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan Babar Yaqoob said on Thursday that the authority received 675 complaints on the July 25, the day of voting for General Election 2018.

The Secretary ECP was addressing media, where he said that in the entire world the process of releasing results takes time.

Most of the complaints were about slow service by 8300, the number for acquiring information.

Babar Yaqoob said that in the previous elections, almost three days were spent for compilation of the results.

“Around 82 percent results have been received from across the country,” said Yaqoob, adding that Returning Officers have announced ‘almost 90 percent results’.

“Total voter turnout has been 55 percent,” said the secretary ECP.

The ECP has to ensure that the results are correct before releasing them.

No, this is just conjured nonsense by opponents to try and discredit / overturn the victory of Imran Khan.

No one really cares! If the country accepted the results last time when everyone admitted rigging then there is no reason to cry about it now. Indian people are understandably not very happy, they have openly admitted having invested heavily in Nawaz. So be it if the military were behind the elections.

Well Imran khan in his speech has said that they will assist and encourage any probe that takes place.

All Jeep candidates lost but PTM wins 2 NA seats

Election engineering in full swing :yk

No, this is just conjured nonsense by opponents to try and discredit / overturn the victory of Imran Khan.

No elections are perfect in PK but this is as about close as we have got. The reporting of Foreign news organisations has been way off the mark.

I can't speak about other cities (since I don't know about them) however, in Karachi everyone I know, spoke with, or have any acquaintance with voted for PTI therefore their victory in largest city of Pakistan, isn't that big of a surprise.

PTI would've actually won in 2013 had MQM not blatantly rigged the election and that is the hard truth people can't sometimes swallow. Karachi has been rid of Gainda and his stooges after a long long time.

[MENTION=142451]Mian[/MENTION] some posters with very good logics are ehre to support \fazli rahman narrative.lolzzzzzzz

Yes, at least in Karachi.

One may hate MQM, but they got 10 times bigger rally than Imran Khan's Karachi rally, but none of the Media showed even a single photo of that.

You could yourself see the Photos and judge yourself

https://twitter.com/Rizvi_Beka/status/1021523608202563584

Then the camps of MQM were full on the Election day, while camps of PTI got not even 1/10th numbers of voters.

Then we all know what happened after 18:00 where polling agents of not only MQM, but also of all other parties (even including PTI) were sent out by the Agencies.

Yes, even the polling agents of PTI in Karachi were protesting that counting was not done in front of them as they were sent out.

Also look at the margins with which Imran Khan won against MQM. It is huge margin which seems impossible while it was the centre of MQM.

Imran Khan got 91 thousand votes, while Ali Raza Abidi of MQM got 24 thousands votes only.

Why rigging took place here?

While other candidates of MQM, who won in other constituencies of Karachi, they got more than 70-80+ thousand votes, but why then Abidi got only 24 thousands only?

All the polls before election were showing that Abidi was winning.

All the anchors were of opinion that Abidi was leading.

And then comes such surprising results where defeat of Abidi with such huge margin.

Please also note that last local body elections of Karachi were also held after the operation under the Rangers and no rigging from MQM side took place in them. Still MQM won conveniently. But this time MQM looses with huge huge margin.

PTI supporters could call MQM Ghaddar, and could call to kill them all or whatever. MQM has no chance of bringing any proof against the agencies as all the judiciary has been used by the agencies. MQM members have been arrested before the elections, killed, made missing.

It may be Altaf Hussain or one or two more top MQM members got connections with Indian RAW. But MQM Pakistan and their supporters has nothing to do with it even according to the Pakistani law agencies.

But still PTI could keep on blaming them of being traitors and making their blood halal.

I can guarantee that ABSOLUTELY NO rigging took place in Karachi. PTI got a HUGE amount of votes from Karachi in 2013 despite the rigging and violence. This time, there was a very visible mood for change in Karachi, and there was no one to stop Karachiites from voting for who they wanted to. We counted Karachi out because we simply did not expect them to deliver a result in PTIs favour.

Another point to make is that the only opinion polling agency that still had MQM in the lead was Roshan Pakistan. The few other surveys that came out, while flawed in other ways, actually put MQM as the 3rd - 4th biggest party in Karachi, with PPP at 1st and PTI narrowly behind. I think the final two weeks of campaigning really sealed the deal for PTI in Karachi.

Even if there was rigging, it was for the god of the country in the long run.

Even if there was rigging, it was for the god of the country in the long run.

People of Karachi were also Pakistanis and loved Pakistan. But when State Organisations like Police and Agencies and Judiciary stops providing Justice, then things end up only in hatred.

Muslims of India are also blamed to be traitors of India today. No justice is served to them today. And we hear from Indians too that it is for the good of the country in the long run.

I am afraid that this rigging is good only for short term, while extremely dangerous for long run.

Due to missing people, we have problems in FATA, Baluchistan, Karachi, and perhaps Punjab is going to join soon too, while Sindh is also unstable.

If PTI fails miserable to perform in Karachi, then what excuses are we going to present to the people of Karachi, who are already disappointed from the injustices?

If there was rigging, it was a hand of God..like the rained out match in 1992 WC. Just the small push Imran Khan needed to deliver the ultimate prize to his country.

If the miseries have the Hand of God, then that makes people sad.

But if the miseries have the Hand of the Dark State, then that makes people angry.

These people may be weak, these people may not have any strength to face the wrath of dark State, but the end results are always long term hatred.

I am from Karachi. And we are happy to shed the shackles of MQM and PPP.Hopefully in the future the whole of Sindh will vote for PTI.

It’s not as if MQM is innocent. They have done rigging and much more.

It may be true for the MQM of Altaf Hussain.

But present MQM Pakistan has no criminal record and they are the true representatives of the people of Karachi.

They were taking part in the elections with fair means.

Using unfair means against MQM Pakistan could never be in the interest of Pakistan.

Who said they shouldn’t take part in the elections? What exactly has MQM-Pakistan done that people should vote for them?

Who said they shouldn’t take part in the elections?

This is a naive question.

People are arrested before the elections, permissions for rallies was not granted, their banners were taken off, media didn't cover their Jalsa which was much bigger than any other party.

And at the end Dark State direct involvement in the vote count.

And if they protest, then again dark state is above the law and will start arresting people and they have no chance of getting justice.

What exactly has MQM-Pakistan done that people should vote for them?

What exactly has the state of Pakistan done for the people of Karachi?

No water.

Everywhere garbage.

Rangers which is full of Punjabis and 0% people of Karachi.

Karachi Police is again full of Punjabis and Sindhis. Locals are about 15%. And police is an institution which is hated most by the Public.

How would you feel if 85% of Lahore police consists of Bahiyyas of Pan eating Mahajirs? Don't you think that locals of Lahore will hate such Police?

Then the Dark State directly encouraging Police Officers like Rao Anwar for killing hundreds of members of MQM and making again thousands of false criminal allegations against them.

There are Sindhis from internal Sindh in all the provincial state organisations. Hardly any Migrants of Karachi.

And there are Punjabis in the central state organisations (like Rangers). Perhaps not a single migrant from Karachi.

No funds for Karachi. Neither from the provincial government, nor from the central government.

And then comes people like Imran Khan, who are telling the people of Karachi that Punjab should be divided and new provinces should be made, but he will oppose his best for creation of Karachi as separate province.

Practical Work done by PTI in Karachi from 2013 till now is ZERO.

Forget about practical work, PTI has not even done any oral work.

And then you ask us why we vote for MQM? At least MQM is raising it's voice for our rights, while Imran Khan is raising his voice to usurp our rights.

MQM has been in power for 15-20 years in 1 way or the other without doing much for Karachi let assume because they didnt get funds their excuse.
1. Why didnt they resign
2. If they dont get funds to do work is it not better for Karachi people to vote for National party as voting for MQM is useless.

People of Karachi wanted change so many voted for PTI where as many MQM supporters stayed home on the call of Altaf Hussein. As far as MQM jalsas goes I know how much many of the people that come to such Jalsas are paid. And how MQM used to get votes in previous elections.
Mqm has a chance to join the federal government again and as it is already in power in the local government use the leverage to improve the lives and solve the problems of the people of Karachi. Otherwise all your points are mostly crap MQM was formed in the 70s and was the need of the urdu people speaking people of the time. But it did not grow into a party of the people but became the fiefdom of 1 and his selected followers and it is time for it to die or convert into a non militant political movement.

MQM has been in power for 15-20 years in 1 way or the other without doing much for Karachi let assume because they didnt get funds their excuse.

Is this excuse right or wrong?

Is there any one else who has done more work than MQM in Karachi?

1. Why didnt they resign

PTI said rigging was done in 2013. Why didn't PTI resign then?

What good resignation would have brought to MQM and people of Karachi in the present political setup of Pakistan?

If you could name a single advantage of resignation and could tell us any advantage for the people of Karachi, then I will also leave MQM.

2. If they dont get funds to do work is it not better for Karachi people to vote for National party as voting for MQM is useless.

What benefit would have National parties brought to the people of Karachi?

Even worse.

At least MQM is raising it's voice for the due rights for the people of Karachi.

But Imran Khan is Khud-Gharz. He is even strangling the voice for the rights of people of Karachi. He wants popularity in the interior Sindh, and thus he comes to Karachi and says Punjab should be divided and new provinces should be made, but he will not let Sindh to be divided and let Karachi to become a new province.

As far as MQM jalsas goes I know how much many of the people that come to such Jalsas are paid. And how MQM used to get votes in previous elections.

Please see the Jalsa of MQM of 2018.

It is the largest in Karachi, but media gave absolutely no coverage. Please see the link above in my Post for the photos of the jalsa.

In 2015, local body elections took place under the supervision of Rangers and no rigging was possible from MQM, but still MQM won conveniently. This should be enough for you to see the reality.

Mqm has a chance to join the federal government again and as it is already in power in the local government use the leverage to improve the lives and solve the problems of the people of Karachi.

There is absolutely no problem in MQM joining the federal government. But this does not change the fact that Justice should be done in elections and otherwise. Rigging will only create the hatred.

Otherwise all your points are mostly crap MQM was formed in the 70s and was the need of the urdu people speaking people of the time. But it did not grow into a party of the people but became the fiefdom of 1 and his selected followers and it is time for it to die or convert into a non militant political movement.

MQM got no weapons initially. But if PPP and Sohrab Goth were full of weapons and Mafias and State of Pakistan was not able to control these illegal activities in Karachi, then ultimately MQM had to get the weapons too.

Altaf Hussain brought a great loss to MQM and people of Karachi.

Present MQM Pakistan is free of any charge of crime and Farooq Sattar and Subzwari are excellent leaders. But still MQM Pakistan is under huge State pressure. It is not wise to strangle the voice of the people of Karachi.

Mqm had support in Karachi as the only real choice at the national level was PPP and Pmln. That has changed. Pti was not in power earlier so please dont equate them with pmln or ppp until they have been in power for sometime. If pti does not perform they will loose support just like the rest did. As far as breaking up Karachi from Sindh goes I am of the opinion that Pakistan needs 15-20 provinces instead of the current 4 and hope IK realizes that once he is actually ruling.

It also depends on what you call rigging?
Is paying people to go and vote for them rigging?

As far as breaking up Karachi from Sindh goes I am of the opinion that Pakistan needs 15-20 provinces instead of the current 4 and hope IK realizes that once he is actually ruling.

What stopped IK from recognising it before the Elections?

What made IK even to Oppose the idea of separate Karachi administrative province, while at the same time supporting this idea in Punjab?

Simple if it was separated when under the power of Mqm (Altaf Hussein) it would have destroyed Karachi

Simple if it was separated when under the power of Mqm (Altaf Hussein) it would have destroyed Karachi

And perhaps Imran Khan raised his voice for the separation, then people of Karachi would not have supported MQM in the first place.

And people blame MQM to be anti Pakistan and destroying Karachi, but reality is this that Karachi saw most development only under MQM.

And present MQM Pakistan is free of any criminal record. Therefore still rigging against MQM Pakistan would be contrary to Justice.

Choors and dakoos are having a tough time accepting the results. Imran Khan deserves it and he's the only honest person who is well capable of bringing a positive change in Pakistan. His votes are way ahead, you don't lead by thousands in rigging.

I just can't understand how jahil (pardon my language) are the voters of other parties. There's one guy who's living a simple life, well educated and only talks of brining good in Pakistan and ending corruption can have anti supporters. His doings in KPK, hospital, help for needy are in front of us. And which leader in the past actually asked the opposition parties to come back and do the counting again. Seriously every anti Imran Khan person is a jahil ***** in my eyes.

Were you sitting in the polling stations and saw it first hand this election?

Pakistanis are satisfied with the poling and elections, Indians are not, wonder why :((

His votes are way ahead, you don't lead by thousands in rigging.

Off course exactly this is the proof of Rigging.

Imran got 91 thousands votes, while he was not once present in this constituency of Karachi.

While Abidi got 24 thousands votes only. While he was present 24 hours for complete one month in this constituency.

While MQM got 70+ thousand votes easily from other constituencies.

While this constituency was always the centre of MQM.

While all polling agents of Abidi were thrown away from the counting process.

While none of them got the results on any official paper.

I just can't understand how jahil (pardon my language) are the voters of other parties. There's one guy who's living a simple life, well educated and only talks of brining good in Pakistan and ending corruption can have anti supporters.

He has done Zilch for Karachi.
He has openly declared his opposition for separate Karachi province.
His Party Candidates were openly meeting with Sipah Sahaba and asking for their support.
He never stopped or even condemned his party members from doing it.

He never protested against the Establishment for allowing the banned outfits to take part in elections and unfreezing their assets.

Only Jibran Nasir and MQM Pakistan were the one who were protesting against it.

Imran Khan is not leading a simple life style, but he lives just as Nawaz Sharif lives. No difference.

And he hired all the corrupt leaders of Noon League, which is again Halal for his followers.
Ok, Imran Khan made a mistake for opposing Karachi administrative province.
But where were the PTI supporters?
Did they ever try to correct Imran Khan on this Issue?
Did PTI Karachi ever raised their voice for separate Karachi administrative province for once during last 5 years?

His doings in KPK, hospital, help for needy are in front of us. And which leader in the past actually asked the opposition parties to come back and do the counting again.

No one blamed IK or PTI for corruption.

But the corruption was made by the Dark State.

Imran Khan is at moment the Ladla of Dark State.

This same Dark State let the banned outfits to take part in the elections, and thus Imran Khan has not raised a single voice against it while he is a stooge of the dark state at moment.

Seriously every anti Imran Khan person is a jahil ***** in my eyes.

It is your opinion.

While my opinion about PTI supporters is not good. They seem to accept all the wrong doings of Imran Khan as cult worshippers. Just look at the issue of banned outfits and you could understand what I mean.

PPP decides not to join multi-party conference over poll results

The PPP has decided not to attend a multi-party conference (MPC) called by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) and PML-N on Friday to devise a joint strategy over alleged rigging in the 2018 general elections.

PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar told DawnNewsTV neither party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari not co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari will join the MPC called by the PML-N in Islamabad today.

He said the PPP was not informed in advance regarding the MPC, and the party did not see the need to attend it when its own leadership was gathering in Karachi to discuss the issue.

"The PPP leadership will devise its own political strategy [over alleged poll irregularities]," Babar added.

The PML-N had on Thursday decided to take all major parties, including the PPP and obviously excluding the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, on board to formulate a joint strategy to take up the rigging issue that it believes has deprived it of majority in the coming National Assembly.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb had told Dawn that any decision whether or not to boycott parliament would be taken after consulting other parties at the MPC.

However, she hastened to add that unlike the PTI, the PML-N was not a party that could ever do politics which was detrimental to the country.

“We will (try to) form a ‘united political front’ to take up the issue of rigging. All political parties will gather in Islamabad on Friday to formulate a joint strategy against rigging. We will present constituency-wise evidence of rigging and issue a white paper on rigging after the MPC,” she said.

Mqm is a terrorist organization, should have been banned long ago, and I am from Karachi. Organization who has brought nothing but harm in Karachi and took the young generation off of school and handed them guns. I won't take a word from that rouge party. And Imran has done nil for Pakistan you say? 1st cancer hospital of Pakistan with free treatment for needy is a massive massive achievement, something that thugs and choors of Mqm or other parties have never done. Plus he's free from corruption and his members don't go around looting people.

What banned organization? Imran is smart enough to continuously talk about having talks with Taliban and bringing peace for good in both countries. He says it openly that wars usually never lead to any good, and he's absolutely right, we have the whole history set as an example.

Present MQM Pakistan is free of charges of crimes. It is indeed supported by the people of Karachi who are fighting for their due rights.

And Imran has done nil for Pakistan you say?

Imran Khan did Zilch for Karachi.
Actually it hurt the interests of Karachi.
He himself never raised the voice for the separate Karachi administrative province. Actually he opposed it constantly and thus caused harm to the rights of the people of Karachi.

PTI local body members or MNAs since 2013 did no work in Karachi. They are absent and not present among the people.

Imran Khan is a foolish person.

It was Imran Khan who was misguiding the nation by telling them to take the Army out of Swat and hand over whole Malakand Division to the Tehrik Nafaze Shariat-e-Muhammadi if Sufi Muhammd.

Only MQM was the party who opposed it.

Due to extreme foolishness of Imran Khan and other political leaders, Army left Swat and as a result Taliban took over whole Swat in next 2 days. And then they started slaughtering people in the bazar of Swat, and started their attacks on the other areas in the direction of Islamabad.

Finally, Army had to again come in and do a huge bloody operation, and this time over 1 million people displaced from their homes and thousands of people were killed in the operation.

Same is with banned outfits.

How wise is Imran Khan?

Due to the unbanning of these terrorist Jihadi outfits, Pakistan may land into the black list now.

Pakistani law is saying these banned outfits could not take part in the elections. But still Imran Khan not protesting against it and he is tearing apart the law of Pakistan.

And his party members have been openly seeking Barakah in votes from these banned outfits. How wise it is from Imran Khan? And how wise it is from the supporters of Imran Khan who are not condemning this crime, but supporting this wrong-doing of Imran Khan one way or another.

12k votes were rejected in Jhang, just to make sure PTI candidate win by 1000 votes. this is ridiculous

Unless and until Voting process become computerized the doubts will always be created.

But question to all who believe rigging took place, how come pawns of Army lost and critics of Army have secured seats.

It was probably one of the fairest election in the history of Pakistan.

And if rigging took place how come PML-N aren't out on street protesting similar to PTI after 2013 election?

All that in support of a party whose leader can't construct a proper sentence on camera where one can take multiple takes to ensure the proper message is sent out to his supporters, if there is any support left and after looking at the results of Wednesday's election I doubt they have much support left.

As a Karachite, I am glad MQM had lost.

If you are trying to imply that rigging took place then you have completely misundersood and trying to sensationalizing accountability into Dhandli. lol

Recounting is the part of election process and proper winner had been declared after recounting. lol

Here's a list of constituencies where PTI, PML-N, PPP are alleging rigging

From the PPP and PML-N to the MMA, most major political parties are crying foul over the vote count process in the July 25 general election.

Even the PTI, which has emerged as the largest political party at the center and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, is alleging rigging in some constituencies.

So what exactly are the allegations?

PML-N

PML-N calls NA249 Karachi's vote count process into question, alleging that Shahbaz Sharif's votes were somehow transferred to PTI's Faisal Vawda. Vawda has been declared the winner in this constituency.

The RO in NA-131 has accepted Saad Rafique's request for a recount.

PTI

PTI spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry told Dawn.com his party's their main contention is Sialkot's NA73 in which PML-N's Khawaja Asif has been declared a winner.

Reports of recounting in NA73 are not confirmed.

PTI's Aleem Khan's request for a recount in NA129 (which was won by PML-N's Ayaz Sadiq) has also been accepted by the RO.

PPP

The Pakistan Peoples Party has raised questions about vote count a few constituencies.

PPP also said PTI’s winning candidate in Jhang NA114 was overturned after the party demanded a closer inspection:

MMA

MMA won in NA5 but only after a re-examination. Earlier, PTI was said to be winning by a margin of 8,000 votes.

ISLAMABAD: The chief observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Pakistan, Michael Gahler, has said that apart from a few incidents of terrorism, the overall situation of the general election was satisfactory.

DAWN and EU just said it. so it should be satisfactory for those who think it was rigged.
becoz DAWN is not biased and EU is **** log .. :yk

wait so EU was there in all the polling stations?

THere have been places where 12k votes have been cancelled of a particular party which would go on to lose by 500-900 votes

its funny, at the end of the day after all whats happened, we still look for Dawn's approval ;)

They must have valid reasons, there's no conspiracy.

first the PPP decided not to attend multi-party conference over alleged rigging.
now MQM is backing out.

Pakistan election not a level playing field, say EU monitors

The EU’s election monitoring team in Pakistan has piled further pressure on the country’s disputed general election by saying that it was told of “systematic efforts to undermine the ruling party” before the vote and that the playing field was not level.

Michael Gahler, the chief of the European Union election observer mission, told a press conference in Islamabad that his 120-strong team observed no rigging on election day itself.

But in surprisingly harsh comments that will be seized upon by the defeated Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), he added that the election environment was “not as good” as in 2013. This contradicted a media report shared by the victorious Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party on its official Facebook page which said that the respected EU mission had found this year’s vote to be cleaner than the last one.

Gahler said that counting in polling stations was “sometimes problematic” but “from what we observed” in 582 of the 85,000 polling stations the military “were not interfering” with the vote. He advised the six major parties that alleged ballot-fixing to take their complaints up through legal channels.

However, in serious criticisms that will cast a shadow over the formation of the new PTI government, led by former international cricketer Imran Khan, Gahler said that pressure on the media, as well as “far stronger” efforts than usual to encourage switching parties, and “judicial conduct” all negatively influenced the vote.

He said the overall legitimacy of the election was for the Pakistani people to decide.

PML-N, the defeated incumbent party, has long complained that its chances in the vote were badly hurt long before polling got under way. More than 30 of its candidates left the party during the campaign and many privately alleged that they were pressured by Pakistan’s ISI spy agency.

PTI enjoyed success across the country, official election results showed on Friday. With 11 seats left to count, more than a day after the result was due, the PTI had won 114 seats in the national assembly, PML-N had taken 63, and the Pakistan People’s party 43.

Khan will still need to form a coalition to become prime minister, which requires at least 137 seats, but a single party winning contests across the country – in the north, south and Punjab – is rare in Pakistani politics.

The ease with which the PTI can implement its policy agenda also received a significant boost from its strong performance in state-level elections.

As well as forming the federal government, the PTI’s capture of 118 seats in the provincial assembly of Punjab, the largest and wealthiest province, means it has a good chance of evicting the PML-N from the state government there, a stronghold that its leadership, even as they contemplated defeat, had been desperate to protect.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said turnout had dropped to 52%, a fall of two points on 2013, as had been expected following a low-energy campaign beset by allegations the military was seeking to hobble the PML-N.

In a televised victory speech on Thursday, Khan struck a unifiying tone, pledging to lift up the poor and allow the rigging claims to be investigated.

Pakistan elections: who are three main parties?

The PML-N founder, Nawaz Sharif, told family from the prison cell where he is serving a 10-year sentence for corruption that he considered the result “stolen”.

GenAsif Ghafoor, the army’s spokesperson, drew criticism after tweeting “You honour who You will and You humble who You will”, a verse from the Qur’an that was taken in some quarters as confirmation of the military’s support for Khan.

The trickle of official results threw up surprises. Top PML-N leaders performed worse than expected. The former prime minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, who took up the role after the ousting of Sharif, lost both the constituencies he was contesting.

The former finance minister Miftah Ismail posted on Twitter that he was “looking for work” after his own defeat. Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz’s brother and the new leader of the party, scraped into parliament after losing three of the four seats he contested.

Although Tehreek-e-Labbaik, a new far-right Islamist party dedicated to killing blasphemers, failed to win any national seats, its strong second-place in many contests raised fears that it will influence the future of Pakistani politics.

The party claimed a startling 10% of the vote in the 110-million strong province of Punjab, cutting into the PML-N vote bank, and won two seats in the Sindh provincial government.

Analyst Umair Javed told the Guardian that the scale of Khan’s win across the country made the PTI a rare “truly national party”. It won a two-thirds majority in the northern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the first since 1951, while at the other end of Pakistan, in the southern business capital of Karachi, the party vastly outperformed expectations to claim half the seats.

That might reflect a shift away from ethnicity-based politics in both regions, said Javed.

A former PML-N cabinet minister, Khawaja Saad Rafique, petitioned for a recount of his defeat to Imran Khan in the capital of Punjab, Lahore. He said the presiding officer at the polling station “rejected” many votes.

The PML-N will host a conference of opposition leaders in Islamabad on Friday to discuss their response after all said that the vote was rigged, with their polling agents – workers who keep an eye on the count – evicted from ballot booths by security officials. At a party meeting on Thursday, the PML-N decided against boycotting parliament.

PPP is waiting for PTI to make a move for Coalition

No. PPP want to make sindh govt, they knw they wont survive much without it. they dont care about central.

so the rigging noises are gonna die slowly.

MQM is the last party that anyone should vote for, they've collaborated with India to destabilise the Sindh region and the bloodshed they've caused with their bombing and shootings.

MQM should be a banned organisation under the UN let alone Pakistan, yet we have some here who are trying portray them in positive light. They were and always will be nothing less than a terrorist organisation.

yes problems with the voting were ECP issues lead by an ECP ad caretaker government appointed by NS and zardari..the rest is all fluff..
