Junaid Khan's second test as an ODI Captain in this series - first game lost with ease but better things expected

Report from previous game:

A captain’s innings from James Vince ensured England Lions completed a comfortable five-wicket victory in their first one-day international against Pakistan A in Dubai.

Vince, who scored 70 from 83 balls, led from the front after his side overcame the absence through injury of the seamers Liam Plunkett and Jamie Overton to dismiss their hosts for 192. The Lions then finished the chase with almost nine overs to spare at the ICC Academy ground.

Overton was ruled out for the whole series with a foot injury, while Plunkett’s plans to join up with England this weekend in South Africa before their limited-overs series there are on hold because of a thigh strain.

The Lions excelled with the ball nonetheless, with Tom Curran taking three for 29 and doing the most damage, before Vince and Sam Billings – who are both set to feature for England’s two Twenty20 games with South Africa next month – combined well with the bat.

After Vince won the toss, the Surrey seamer Curran made a breakthrough with the new ball and, after taking a diving one-handed catch at backward-point off Tom Westley’s off-spin, returned to pull off an athletic caught and bowled to oust Pakistan’s Fawad Alam, who was to be their top scorer with 51.

Westley and Craig Overton both took two wickets apiece as did Nottinghamshire seamer Jake Ball – the second courtesy of a fine catch at deep midwicket by Joe Clarke to dismiss Bilal Asif.

Vince and Dawid Malan then gave the Lions a perfect start in reply, with an opening stand of 103 in just over 20 overs. Malan hit five fours before edging a cut at left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz to go for 41.

The impressive Nawaz then bowled Westley first ball and when Vince was run out in the 28th over, the Lions were 125 for three. But Billings and Liam Dawson steadied the ship with a fourth-wicket stand of 43. Dawson fell when he hooked into the hands of Fakhar Zaman at mid-wicket, but Billings sealed the win with only his second boundary in 52 balls.

Crucial game for Fakhar Zaman. Kid seems to be going the Maqsood/Jamshed way before even playing intl cricket.. hope he comes good we desperately need an odi opener.

It's either him or :kakmal, which I don't mind.

Mohammad Nawaz should deliver today with the bat. Needs to back up that 187 onslaught in OD tournament. He's got the ability.

Our A-team lacks something ... I can't put a finger on what exactly we are lacking, a power hitter, a fast bowler, or just some CLH but it feels that there is something missing there.

An explosive opener and a wicket-taking, specialist spinner. A good death bowler wouldn't hurt either. :fawad

Possibly.

Saeed Ajmal kinda bowler is someone that we don't have.

I used to wait for the ball to be given to him. Other than two, maybe three matches, hardly ever saw him given a "phainti".

1.5
0 Ehsan Adil to Malan, no run, away swinger, good bounce and carry, sharp bowling.
1.6
0 Ehsan Adil to Malan, no run, good length ball, fired in, almost got a feather, Malan pulling out of the shot last moment.
Adil looks brilliant in patches, b

same as first game , only fahim ashraf and mohammad nawaz getting some wickets

apart from fahim ashraf and mohammad nawaz , no one in the series has taken any wicket , junaid khan and ehsan adil have been taken to the cleaners.

I can see the chase going the same way our T20I chase went today.

Give it a good try boys. :najam

Follow the steps of the main team ... oh wait, Don't ... mission abort, don't just don't follow the foot steps of the real team.

Carve your own path you young padawans :))

Why? They have the legend to look up to. :afridi

The important question is: can they play pace? Or any kind of bowling? Because then they'll be an upgrade.

The answer to your question is.

No we cannot bat.

Give them bats the size of Vatican City, pitch the size of the Need for Speed Car chase run way, and they will still find a way to get out.

Pakistani batsman can't bat lala ...

on the tune of

Pappu can't daance (the rest you know)

Muhammad Nawaz has preformed well so far in this series, really happy for the lad. Will be soon called for Pakistan side

i fail to understand why mir hamza , zia u l haq , shehzad rana , hasan ali etc who are performing in domestic arent in the squad , atleast in next game mohammad abbas should come in for ehsan adil

Junaid and Amir are at the same level at the moment.

Harsh.

Junaid is done for and is a nothing bowler.

Amir despite his lack of wickets still looks much better bowling than the pies that Junaid is sending.

Perhaps, but I expect Amir to get better from here on (but nothing like his former self). At the moment, I think there's little to separate.

Mamoon

Amir is 10 kph faster than Junaid and has more skills, he may not be able to match Steyn or starc, but still he will be the best Pakistan bowler easily in few months.

The pace which amir is bowling after 5 year lay off is better than what Junaid has ever bowled

Yes, but I don't know the pace Junaid is bowling at the moment. According to him, he is back to being a 140 KPH bowler now. Do you know the speed he's bowling at in the ongoing series?

We all know even at his best he was 135 kph bowler with few around 140-145 kph in the spell

Bad news everywhere for Pakistan fans these days apart from India getting thrashed

More than 150K - haven't seen, but assuming from the number of boundaries hit of him, as they say, the faster you bowl, the harder it hits the bat. And, he is leading wonderfully, after Countney Walsh, many, many years later World is watching another Fast bowling Captain, thanks to PCB.

Yeah that is true. Can't take the word of these bowlers after Talha called himself a 150 KPH bowler.

Well said. :)))

Not in the mood - wasted half nights sleep; first Pakistanis spoiled the taste & Zimbocs are putting ODI target in a T20 match & SAF has probably opted for another Cape Town like wicket.

Ask Bilal7.

He must be dreaming and saying what a fantastic wicket!

To be fair, they have a batting coach as well.

grant flower from zimbabwe, not doing a decent job... or may be he is cut short of his duties just to sit a sip tea, when i see mushy explaining how to bat images... also he has no say in terms of team selection and batting order for sure with waqar and afridi deciding everything.. Once afridi retires, get deano as head coach and a bowling coach of his choice who he feels comfortable to work with and chuck out the rest except grant luden...

We will find how good Deano is in the PSL.

no certainly not... Amir is a much better bowler. first of all need to teach these guys some basics of cricket or even say basic of common sense... 1st match used Amir with the new ball, and second over to wasim.. pak won that match defending 172...

2nd match 4 runs short of the same 1st match score, why open the bowling with umar gul

and today in a decider, opening the bowling with anwar ali...

Upfront pak announces their defensive approach right from the start..

atleast they need to learn from the opponents which is also not happening... they opened with santner and corey in the 2nd match , with lack of pace attack and corey got the first brekthrough, and today they promoted corey to open the bowling and it again paid off with the first breakthrough...

what a team of dumb heads these pak side are...:mv

fakhar with a fantastic fifty ,strike rate of 96 , needs to get to a big hundred and get his team over the line.

Dukh hoa jaan kar.

Yani kay is match main bhi na hi samjhain.

Have you ever seen Liverpool winning the Premier League in past two decades?

Then why expect our "A" team to do outperform our "official" team ?

IDK.

Don't watch football.

Just make fun of my friends who are super passionate about it. Right where I live, there is an Ice rink and they have a good team.

I go to see some of their matches. Samajh kuch nahi aati bus naaray maar maar kar waapis aa jaata houn :)))

Off topic.

Have you been to Trolltunga?

If yes, have you hanged upside down there like a trapeze and shouted "Eureka!" :)))

pic 1.jpg

have seen this many times in senior team and now in PAK A//// Why dont these players have a release shot and why their mind gets dud when they block one over and go for a hoick the next over...

Fawad is the set batsman now, but it looks like he still struggles to hit boundaries. Some things never change. :afridi2

To be fair one big partnership and they're in this, insha'Allah.

28.5 Westley to Fawad Alam, FOUR, low full toss, Alam waits for it, pulls over midwicket

Spoke too soon... but how do you PULL a low full toss? :afaq

Is Fawad-e-Alam still falling to the ground after giving everything to a shot with the ball barely crossing the 30 yard circle?

Well, he is normally lying on the ground when he connects with the ball.

Nawaz is indeed in great form - one thing PAK don't do is pick couple of youngsters when they are in form. Nawaz deserves a chance in the squad at least for the Asia Cup.

Muhammad Hasan out now, Nawaz still going but losing support. A familiar tale of a Pakistani run chase of >300.

Roland-Jones to Bilal Asif, OUT, good
length ball, wild slog across the line,
misses this time , Toby strikes!!

Yup, looks like a good choice for ODI opener alright.

why is fahim ashraf batting so low down the order , mohammad hassan should bat at 9 , a nothing batsman and nothing keeper shpuld have played rehan afridi or bismillha khan
