1. Chose the right team (not too much to choose between Dhawan and Gambhir as I had mentioned many times before).
2. Won the toss and took the right decision in batting first.
3. Battled it out and survived when others didn't. Of course he doesn't have the skills to survive such bowling but he just dug in and gave a real effort.

I also think these sort of situations (back against the wall) bring the best out of Dhoni even in tests. He just needs Jadeja and one or two others to stick with him.
