right- whew India have sailed past 49 as well and on cue all Pakistani posters have disappeared....

Looks like batting is getting a lot easier now sun has come out. India could still get 300.

69 overs left in the day. If we can emerge out of it not all out it'll have been a good day.

Unless Clouderson and his home track sidekick unleash hara-kiri again.

15 mins to lunch and England will be delighted thus far. Can they sneak a 5th?

I can't even recall the last time we posted a really large score. Like 450+ with batsmen scoring 150s and 200s.

Rahane gets a very streaky boundary via the slip region, after being beaten by Jordan ball before.

50 partnership up - 103 deliveries, 81 mins with 8x4

Rahane 24 and Dhoni 24

Buttler coming back to earth after the last game.

The only way to mess up the mind of near perfect technique batsmen like Rahane is by roughing him up with a genuine pacer a la Finn.

And there you go *****WICKET****

Rahane chases a wide one and is disgusted with his actions......Caught by Bell for 24.

62/5.

Jadeja gets booed onto the ground and the crowd shout come on Jimmy.....

The last 3 times England have had a team 4 down for less than 25 on day 1, they have lost the Test (credit Andy Zaltzman)

One can hope.

Are the CCTVs working at Old Trafford- England might try and ambush MSD here- thats the only way they gonna get him out here!

behave yourself & mind your language

To be honest, "crap" is not a derogatory term and is quite commonly thrown out in forums.

You just got hurt because I gave you a sharp response to one of your many troll comments.

Anyways, if you truly got hurt, apologies for that.

We just need the change of session before he gloves a short one to Buttler.

Anderson and Broad back on after the break would help too.

Ironically its the swinging delivery that does him in- short stuff he can handle

The first session of the 4th Investec Test, all belonged to England as India limped to 63/5.

After winning the toss and making a brave decision, MSDs side had 3 changes from the defeat at Southampton.

In overcast conditions, talismanic Burnley man Anderson, in partnership with Broad, decimated their opponents inside half a dozen over's reducing Team India's much vaunted batting line up to 8/4.

Whilst the ball was darting about, with the exception of Vijay, my assessment is that the Indian batting played at balls that should have been left alone.

Gambhir's technique was worked out and the slip cordon had been strengthened, as he opened the face of his bat and edged to slip.
Kohli's dismal series continues as he, too, edged to slip. Anderson bowled him the in swing and then nipped away. Kohlis feet were on the move as well.
Pujara just poked at a Broad outswinger
Rahane looked assured until he went after one he didn't need to less than 10 balls before lunch.

Dhoni is partnered by his protégé Jadeja.....will they play their shots or not in session 2, or battle it out.

The wicket has bounce and is carrying through, but anything less than 300 after winning the toss and taking first use, could mean early curtains....

Nice write up and summary Noddy- much better than cricbuzz/cricinfos

Just remembering Dhoni gloving out to Anderson first test first thing on the 4th day.

Sure but then most of his dismissals in England have been against the moving ball- short stuff he has been taking on the body this time around.

Anderson & Broad- just need to pitch it up at around 85m and MSD will oblige.

Absolute pathetic session for India.

Incredible session for England and Dhoni.

Yes Dhoni.

1. Chose the right team (not too much to choose between Dhawan and Gambhir as I had mentioned many times before).
2. Won the toss and took the right decision in batting first.
3. Battled it out and survived when others didn't. Of course he doesn't have the skills to survive such bowling but he just dug in and gave a real effort.

India to score between 150-200 and England to be 3 down by COB- Cook/Bell & Robson to fall cheaply

Couldnt believe when dad told me india were 4/4. :)))

Decent recovery though.
