What's new

England v Pakistan | 4th Test | The Oval | Aug 11-15, 2016 | Day 3

I think we should bat as safely as possible until lunch and then play attackingly and try to put a lot more runs quickly onto our lead. :yk:sahmed:sk:amir:wahab

The now-dead grass will hold it together.

I don't expect much spin at all, or at least not before Day 5.

We're less than halfway through the match. It's quite similar to Pakistan's drawn 708 Test in 1987.

I see 2 possibilities:

1. Pitch breaks up from Day 4...or mid Day 4.....

2. Pitch is dead but a little swing is there in the air and runs can be racked up with ease

Dunno which way its going to go.

If this pair can go to lunch, PAK should post 550+ Unlike other Tests, here Moeen/Root has bowled only about 20 overs out of 106.

It makes me wonder why YK was hopping around in the first 3 Tests, was he not used to the conditions or something?

And heard that Sky charge just too much extra money if you want to open the sports channels just for 1 month to watch a series. Even in India cricket isn't on FTA anymore but still Star charge very less so that general public can access it. Thanks GOD in Pakistan it's still FTA for all home/away series of Pak and even for Ashes and all other major series/tournaments otherwise cricket will die just like hockey/squash here because we didn't promoted them.
I have a ton of respect for Sky's cricket broadcasting, they've been very innovative and the quality of coverage is second to none. But the problem is Murdoch believes in a high price-low subscriber model. Sky subscription is fairly pricey for the average man.

I grew up watching cricket on BBC and then Channel 4 - FTA channels. During 2005 Ashes, C4 got over 8m watching the Trent Bridge Test. A new generation of cricket fans were born during that series and large part due to FTA viewing.

Yes Sky money has done a huge amount of good for English cricket, including money that's gone to grassroots and women's cricket. But you can't promote cricket from behind a paywall. Adult participation numbers are down and some club teams in England can barely cobble together an XI. The interest is just not the same anymore, especially among younger generation.

T20 Blast should at least be on FTA.

Very true, but that's a different story.

In England, cricket is no longer shown on Free-To-Air TV, so most kids never watch it. Ever. It's a mystery to them like Polo or Tennis or Golf.

In Australia all home international cricket is on Free-To-Air TV and so is the Big Bash. Cricket Australia get much less money for the TV rights, but know that EVERY male and almost every female watches it.

I got an SMS from a middle-aged female nurse who is a friend of mine an hour ago about an absurd catch that Shaun Marsh tried to claim in the Colombo Test.

But because the TV coverage in England is hidden away, there is no such interest there. Over 90% of males aged 15-30 apparently watch neither Test, ODI or even T20 cricket in England now.

Lmao you had to mention all the specifications of that:yk

I think we are asking much from YK ... it is well enough he gave us a century despite his horrible form during this tour. Besides Sarfaraz do own us 70+ good score and a century from him will be a blessing and big booster for his own good.

All we are asking is bat for two more sessions, is that too much to ask?

Exactly we always talk about promoting the game and making it global but we are not even interested in taking the right steps.

Introducing a Netflix style subscription would do wonders for the game! £9.99 per month no contract for access to the cricket series and all the previous archive footage, documentaries, specials and entire Test series from the past. But also agree that the sport in the country needs FTA exposure

Yousuf in 2006 plus I think Zaheer Abbas as well ??? Can someone confirm this ??

Yes, Zaheer Abbas:zaheer has two in England. Aamer Sohail:aamer has one in Manchester while Miandad:jm has one at the Oval. Of course Moyo:moyo has one as well.

That's sad

Can you please confirm whether Mohsin Hasan Khan made a double at lords or not ?? Please

Zaheer, Mohsin, Aamer Sohail, Miandad and MoYo all got doubles in Eng. MoYo and Mohsin did it at lords and have their name mentioned there while Zaheer did it twice in his career. Zaheer was just too good for english conditions and this is the reason he was legend in county cricket. Out of his 108 FC centuries most came in county cricket.

Waisay Aap nay Kitni live witness karen hain sir :P - You're an Oldie aren't you :D

Our batsmen enjoyed smashing england bowlers in their own conditions thats one of the reason they remained our punching bad for more than 2 decades home and away :yk Salim Malik also have a legendary record there

Off course not.

It will be blessing in disguise.

YK looks quite settled except just one hook shot and Sarfaraz is playing sensibly as compared to other matches during the tour.

not more than Junaids lol he is even older than me and if i am not wrong saw many of those live in the ground. There is a reason he knows more about Pakistani cricketers from county cricket than most of pak fans here.

Yaar humara Mamoon ghayab he kal se koi pata kero musala bicha ker to nae betha ke Pakistan batting collapse kere or expose ho :yk

Lovely to see Graeme Fowler in the crowd. He was a gutsy opener for England while Graham Gooch was banned for going to South Africa, and hit a 100 against the West Indies and a 200 in India.

Foxy has had mental health issues in recent years but just put out a best-selling book (which had to be reprinted 3 times in 4 months since it was first published).

He's not by any means a sandwich short of a picnic. He's a smart guy who got depressed when cricket ended for him, and he's a comical eccentric who actually moves out of the bedroom into a tent in his back garden when summer arrives each year.

Wonderful man.

SL are now 213/5 after being 26/5.
Meanwhile David LLoyd getting impatient. :bumble

Very crucial partnership, when moeen comes on i think theyl look to attack more

Forum is not working on Tapatalk..not allowing to post.

Oh meanwhile Sarfaraz gone...did is jinxed him.

this has been the problem with Sarfraz, he has not been able to convert his good starts

Not all gloom, the centurion is still there, just need double figures from the tail which they're capable of.

My prediction of us scoring 380 was thankfully an underestimate. Wahab in now

We will probably end up with a lead of 100 or so, definitely not enough. It will be a repeat of the last game.
