England vs India | 1st Test | Edgbaston | Aug 1-5, 2018 | Day 1 Thread

Match slowly drifting away from India.

One dimensional bowling with no variety is making it easy for England bowlers.

If England scores over 350, this match is over for India.

Match is getting ahead of us. Not liking the inclusion of Pandya. He may get 20 runs with bat in hand but, 5th bowler is missed.

Kuldeep should have been in the 11.

You cannot weaken the batting further at the expense of another bowler.

Ishant or Yadav should have been dropped for Kuldeep.

Both Ishant and Yadav are hit the deck bowlers. Same is Shami. 3 one dimensional bowlers. Only Kohli and Shastri can play all 3 in the lineup.

If India cannot get 2 quick wickets in the next 7 overs, its over for them.

Our batting will struggle as usual.

Shami is the only bowler who looks like taking a wicket. The rest are just going through motions.

England reach 200.They are still only 3 wickets down. Both their best batsmen are on the crease.

Bairstow reaches his fifty with a boundary.

India once again failing to understand their strengths. They are almost embarressed by them. You should have played Kuldeep. Hardik can be used as a line and length "give everyone a break" type bowler. That would allow Kohli to rotate his spinners and seamers!!

This summer the pitches will be dry and flat, India need to play like they do at home..conditions are very dry!

Run out!Went for an unnecessary run there.Direct hit by Kohli.

Another fifty for Root.

India can still bat well and keep themselves in the game. The pitch is flat and if Kohli and co get going we could see england under pressure in the second innings with the ball spinning!!

IND dropped Pujara for The All-rounder, hope it doesn't cost at the end. Even at 4 down, Poms are actually at a better position here, batting first.

Lucky wicket.

Only fluke could have broken this partnership. Bad luck Root. He was set for a big hundred.

True.Pitch is not only good enough to bat on but also good for spinners, even in the first innings.

This is the best example of throwing your wicket away,,, Dumbest running, India is Defo back in it.

Pants by Root and Bairstow. India were on the rack there. Bairstow better make amends.

Indian pacers have been pretty disappointing as expected by neutral fans but against the expectations of Indian fans who dont realize that their both opening bowlers avg 35+ with ball and 5th bowler is 45+ in that regards. Two lucky wickets for pacers with inside edge and nothing much to trouble.

I dont know how people say that Indian pace bowing has imrpoved. Maybe in the one days but not much improvement in tests.

One more fluke wicket.

India will take it which ever way it comes.

India needs to seriously look at its bowling for 2nd Test. Kuldeep is a must unless its a green top.

One of Yadav/Ishant must give way to Kuldeep.

India should restrict england for less than 280 if they have to win this test.

Indian trundlers got few lucky wickets. 350 is going to be more than enough.

Ishant + Yadav + Pandya turns out to be less than half of Mohammad Abbas

Oh man the poms are really trying their best to throw away this test, Now I can safely say we are not at the top in Almighty collapses competition, England have proudly snatched this trone.

Thankfully he is gone. If he settles, match will be lost in a matter of 15 overs.

Yes he can single handedly chane the match once he gets in as he did so against Pak in 2nd match

England still have some batting left , they need to get something out of there lower order.

For a primary bowler, Umesh bowls way too many hit me balls.

Even cutting down pace is not helping him.

Considering the conditions and weather in England in these months Kuldeep should have been bowling now instead of Yadav

Ideal series with reasonably supporting conditions for Ashwin to improve his overseas record

Why so bitterness man!! Everything India does, has to be a fluke or being lucky!!! Lol

Btw i have to give it to you for your consistency. You predict and wish for a phainty in every Indian match but nowhere to be seen by the end of the match.

TBH Ashwin has bowled really well but fast bowlers except may be Shami have been mediocre

Moeen Ali dropped two tons against this bowling line-up in India but can’t get into the side at home? Milan is a waste of space, don’t know what the selectors see in Curran either.

Ashwin has been superb - deserves his 2 scalps on a day 1 pitch albeit a dry one. Imagine the havoc India could have caused if Kuldeep Yadav was bowling.

Also Root isn't going to win England games if he is going to continue to struggle with converting his 50s to tons but today he was a bit unlucky because it was Bairstow's call to run for that second which was never there.

Shami’s fitness has really costed him a lot. He had potential

Left armer I guess with Curran. He is also decent with bat

LOL! I was always there and will always be. I just don't like my beloved India. You fans make it even worse to stop disliking my beloved country. Boasting and all the stuff.

As ridiculous as this may sound I actually think they reckon the foot marks he'll leave will be a source of wickets for Rashid and also adds variety to the pace attack with his left arm action - after all cricket is a game of angles.

Team management missed the trick by not playing Kuldeep. He could have been in place of Pandya.

A must for 2nd test if pitch is similar to this one.

India have done well here , If they restrict England within 300 , its a big thing. England have to bowl really well to come back . India will like to make most of this batting conditions here

Including Kuldeep in place of Pandya will depelte our already suspect batting.

You have to play Kuldeep in place of Ishant or Umesh.

Both Ishant and Umesh are similar type of bowlers. Both are not world beaters anyway. Ishant is a good support bowler. Umesh is a hit or miss bowlers mostly misfiring.

Not playing Kuldeep was definitely a big miss. Ashwin could have batted 5 down and Kuldeep could have played instead of Pandya. On this wicket Jadeja would have been more effective than Pandya if they didnt want to compromise on batting depth.

Many sub continental teams make team combinations based upon the general assumptions and historical nature of the conditions in Eng, Aus etc and they sometimes miss the outliers

Disliking is fine but one should post something worth reading. Many posters here like Syed1 don’t like India either but they talk sense in their posts. Making bitter predictions all the time usually leads to annoyance. Just an observation.

Ben stokes is key here , he needs to get support of lower order , to take Poms to fighting total.
