I agree - but Kohli is a big fan of Pandya so hardly suprising. There is a stubborn nature with Kohli + Shashtri with their team combinations as evident with Pandya and Dhoni (in LOIs) as well.

He does it all the times, good observation. He was there during first two tests V/S SA, but after that could not be seen.

I understand Kohli’s point of view that they want to develop Pandya. But, they have to understand how many games developing him might cost the team and in the end there is no guarantee as well that he will become that star all rounder India is looking for as he hasnt shown a lot of improvement in last few months.

What do I do?? I just don't like my beloved India and want them to lose all the matches. You got any problem with that??
 
Guys, Any news on Bhuvi or Bumrah? Are they expected to be fit by 2nd or 3rd test? We need both of them in place of Umesh and Ishant. Both of them along with Shami will actually be very good pace attack.

I rate Pandya highly but given the ease in which Yadav rolled through the English batsmen in the LOIs + dry summer it would have been wise to have made an exception in this case. Defining horses for courses selection(s) shouldn't be limited to generic country by country conditions but also how the wickets are actually playing at the time of the tour being played.
 
Stokes needs to get some F.C. cricket under his belt rather than be given a free reign in the side. Get Moeen back in.
 
Poor stuff from Stokes. Got out to Shadab playing similar kind of shot but that went to the fielder on side
 
2 out of 4 left handers taken by Ashwin. Playing Ashwin was a no brainer against this English lineup

England need to make someone else Test captain. Root just isn’t going to succeed.
 
Fair play to India! Ashwin has been terrific!

Shami apart, the pace bowlers were poor or England would have not made 200.

As for England? Are they trying to kill test cricket in this country? An absolutely spineless performance all set off by that crazy run out!!

Stokes -overated. Never rated him against good bowling especially spin.

I think India will only need to bat once in this match. Expect Ashwin to get 6 wickets in the 2nd innings to end the game on Saturday.
 
Come on Rash, let’s silence the haters with a 50 here.
 
250 is more than enough.. innings victory for England, no doubt.

It is ridiculous. A left arm quick's footmarks help off-spinners as they create a rough outside right hander's off stump.

Legspinners will always have a rough outside legstump (to eighties) created by right arm seamers. Very few can take much advantage of it anyway because most aren't good enough to bowl a batsman round the legs even with added sidespin help from pitch
 
I think, the game is living to the expectation and it's perfectly balanced till now. On a sunny 1st day at Edgbaston, I see ball turning and shooting from pacers - it won't be easy for IND if ENG puts 350 in 1st innings or 250 as target. That run out made the game even, otherwise ENG could have been in driving seat by now. Anyone posting 400 in 1st innings will win this Test.
 
If England get to 300, it will be a 90% chance that they win the match.

The wicket is very similar to the ones Pakistan got in 16’.
 
Pandya is an absolute waste of space. I would bring in Jadeja and choke England with spin from both ends.
 
Good attacking batting...could take this score to a respectable 350.

I am thinking too much. Let em get to 300 first without losing another wicket. Quite a long batting line up this one..
 
India will be happy with this, it makes me think had they played another spinner England would have been all out by now.

Hildreth has come close to the selection many times but has been unfortunate. Still at 33 years of age he can add a lot to English Middle order. Even Tom Westley played after just 1 or two good seasons but Hildreth with a career avg of 43 and close to 16000 runs have been a performer for quite sometime now.
 
India should not bowl out England today ..they can avoid morning moisture and the early swing

They are international class and that is why they are playing but not world class bowers who win you matches on their own
 
Need to restrict Eng to 300. Will be a fantastic achievement after England were 216/3. We will take even 325.

Indeed! Even though india bowling beautifully,England has put up great score considering indian batting lineup poor record on this pitch.

Still if india doesnt loose first couple of wickets till 50-60 runs ,shud be an intresting match
 
Why Anderson forcing single? Curran need to talk to him.

Still, why do they have to bring Harbhajan when there are Indian ex-cricketers around that speak much better English? Gambhir, Zak, Murali Karthik, Ganguly, Agarkar, Akash Chopra all speak very good English.
 
Karthik has already dropped 2 catches now and it's just the first day. Not good enough for test cricket.
 
Just tune in to hindi commentry if u dont like harbhajan's commentry,not really bigga deal
 
Would have loved to see English getting all out on Day 1 ,sadly for karthik's unnecessary heroics didnt happen

Nevertheless great performance speacially the comeback after root-bairstow partnership.

Despite the absence of Bhuvi and Bumrah, India dominated Day 1 like a true World #1 Team. Kudos Champs!
 
Karthik again showed why he's not got many chances. His keepng is still as shoddy as it was 13-14 years back. 2 dropped catches on day 1 of a series, very disappointing. Needs a 50+ with the bat to redeem himself
 
Well played India, good effort after losing the toss.

However 300 isn't a bad score on here first up. Plenty for the English bowlers. Even if they concede a lead of 50 they will be in a good position.
 
Without bk and bumrah ... got 9 English skits on day 1....not bad at all

So we dropped 3 catches on the 1st day? :facepalm:
 
Fielding coach r.sridhar should be sacked!!! atleast he should resign voluntarily...the only area which we could not improve after these many years is the slip fielding!!!
 
Not too long ago India's fielding used to be topnotch, but it has been disgraceful in the last 12 months. Still a good day, I am happy.
