What's new

England vs Pakistan | 2nd Test | Headingley, Leeds | June 1-5, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

For the batting talent he has, Chris Woakes has underachieved significantly. I felt his bowling wouldn't pass muster in India/Aus, but expected him to average 30-31 easily with bat.

Just wait and watch.......

We are on the ropes here. It is only a question of whether we will lose with dignity or get humiliated.

If we can keep the lead to less than 200, we might be able to make England bat again. I would take a 10 wicket or 9 wicket loss here, because an innings defeat was the most likely outcome at the end of day 1.

McGrath was an absolute class when he bowled with new ball. But have you seen him coming around for second spell, in later part of his career? He almost couldnt even let bowl at the death as batsman used to be more aggressive charging in, and blasting him out the parks. He retired before becoming a mockery!

Proof please. I'm not sure how he could take as many wickets cheaply and with a good economy rate by only bowling a good first spell.

With your statement, he must have been Sydney Barnes in the first spell and Venkatesh Prasad in his second.

Nothing wrong with what Botham said, although it is not what we want to hear. If Buttler can get a 60 or a 70, and if the tail wags, England can get to 200.

It looks tough at this point, but they are capable. Nothing biased about what he said.

Sarfaraz definitely going to be banned after this Test with this poor over rate

They'll probably get around 150 which is going to be more than enough for them to win.

Why is this an impossible scenario -

Azhar 100
Imam 50
Haris 80
Asad 50
Usman 50
Sarfraz 20
Shadab 50
Faheem 40
Amir 20
Hasan 15
Abbas 10

Question: What is this reaction ENG/PAK thing on Sky? I thought the batter's reaction was to the ball leaving the bowler's arm, but the fielding side?

Pak need to score 350+ and hope for rain. Not unlikely. I trust our batting.

Because it’s not going to happen. Azhar is rubbish, but he is twice as rubbish in the second innings.

The rest of the lineup will not cope with the scoreboard pressure. The best we can do here is to give England a small chase.

This match is a carbon copy of Lord’s, but the roles have been reversed.

One of Azhar/Asad/Haris is due a big score.

Rain is the only thing that will save us

Pathetic batting line up will be bundled out for 180 max

The time for Azhar has come to show why he has been called Pak's best Test batsman.

I hope Pankha base won't kill me if I say PAK cordon stands at least 3 steps too far, set by their WK ...... hence half of the edges reach one bounce.

Exactly. He looks so disinterested as well for some reason.

Any hope of Pakistan's win has seemingly gone out of the window as the lead crosses 100. Even if we get them in the next 10 runs, I doubt our batters possess the mental composure to chop off the deficit without losing 5-6 wickets in the process. Which should make it an easy win for England when they come on to bat the second time with not much to chase.

None of the batters have the patience to bat long and not against the swinging conditions

Azhar ali is a walking wicker as is all the rest

Game is done

Statistics - average, a Test results about 10 catches/game, 3.5-4 of them by WK. Now, with a WK like Saha, IND drops 20%, means 2 out of 10 (that's 1 by Saha out of 10) and PAK drops 1 out of 10 (means, Sarfraz drops roughly 1 in 2 game, or half per game ....)

..... hence, without even looking at the game, I can tell that he is standing at a "safe" distance & doesn't bother much to dive around to touch the ball on flight - that's a pre-condition to drop a catch.

Since a win is out of picture for Pakistan. Unless Pakistan play extremely well and get them out around 100 in 4th innings. Maybe rain can help draw the match?

Not going to happen, but Specialist Captain should be axed from the Test team.

Rizwan cannot do worse with the bat, and he is a better keeper and also the fittest player in the country.

Shafiq can take over as captain. He is mediocre, but he is not going to be dropped, which means he is not a bad choice for captaincy.

At least he performs once in 3-4 innings unlike the current savior at the helm.

2 innings will be finished before lunch tomorrow with over 8 sessions left. A draw is almost out of the question.

Again!!!!! ...... next time his T20 & ODI team beats mighty ZIM, you'll be in trouble.

Everyone has got into 20s with three scores of 40s and Buttler not out in 30s.

So has trying to keep his place in the team safe ?

Better keeper... How?

He can't dive properly for a start. From ball I knew they are far too back. Plus Bess edged one and it fell short of him and still he didn't move forward.

Amir's record in England
22 inns 49 wkts at 25.2 with 52 S/R and 2 5-fers

Wasim's record in Eng
23 inns 53 wkts at 28.7 with 64 S/R and 2 5-fers

Interesting :P

Rizwan’s keeping has improved since his last stint with the national team, and it is also a matter of principle.

Sarfraz needs to be taught a lesson - there is no excuse for his fitness levels and poor performances.

I can't see any trait in Shafiq's personality that would suggest he is capable of captaining the Pakistan Test team.

True, we have the mighty Scotland coming up. Yet another massive challenge for the number one T20 team.

Pakistan’s run in T20s since summer of 2016 is something the world will remember for years, especially when you consider the level of opposition that we faced.

A WK like Rod Marsh was probably heavier than Sarfraz, probably close to 100KG!!!!!, as he was taller. BUT, guy had unreal reflex and probably the best anticipation among WKs', hence often he had time enough to react and grab. C Marsh, B Lillee appeared in Test Score Card 95 times.

Sarfraz's anticipation is among the worst that I have seen - let alone catching, if Amir starts to swerve across leg, half of those will go for 4 byes.
