So big day for Pakistan and possibly the match. If England are still batting by Tea then the game would be on its way out of Pakistan's reach.

Cloudy conditions today - can Pakistan bowlers put in a better performance than yesterday?

Pakistan 174, England 106/2 (37 ov)

England trail by 68 runs with 8 wickets remaining in the 1st innings

Let's hope the bowlers take some early wickets ideally 3 to 4 in the first session. Any score over 250 and it's going to be difficult for Pakistan to get back in the match. Need Amir and Abbas to be on song first thing today.

(Like always) All hope on Pak bowlers to reduce lead.

England are favorites to win this one.

But let's see.

I am setting off to the ground in about an hour. Bit worried that this one might be partially / wholly rained off. I live locally and there is thick white cloud along with sporadic light showers everywhere. Nothing heavy forecast all day, but just enough to make the outfield unacceptably soggy. If we get a full day’s play it will be somewhat fortuitous.

Hopefully the cloud cover will be handy for our bowlers against the English bats.

C'mon Team Green.

Root will get out for 50
Malan can't bat in England
Bairstow will get overwhelmed with the emotion of playing his first game at his home
Bess and Butler have already had their score for the series
Woakes hasn't batted in red ball for months
Curran is a newbie
Broad and Anderson are proper tail enders

Cloudy conditions. Rested bowlers.

Pakistan to have a lead of 20 :salute

Never Underestimate this guy...

Saj picsnof the ground dont luk promising dont think we will get play today

Forecast isn't great so let's hope rain can save Pakistan

Dont give up so quick bro. A couple of wickets early on and wr right back in it. Eng also has to bat last.

Lets hope rain stays away and back the bowlers they will deliver.

The rain seems like it will go on for a bit. Play could start after lunch, under cloudy conditions and slightly warmer air, which can be good for swing. Heck the pitch might even be damp enough to keep low and skittle a couple batsmen.

The biggest issue is sarfraz making the same mistake as root. Unless its a day night ODI, never bat first in England.

Soggy outfield not going to help swing, about the only thing we are banking on this morning. stop / starts also going to put bowlers out of rhythm, it's going to be another frustrating roza day.

The rain gods are saving Pakistan. Raining cats and dogs with puddles of water everywhere in the ground.

Doubt much will happen today.

The ground is entirely empty with just the sponsors around.

That should say a lot about any play happening today.

You'd have bowled first under the blazing sunshine on a flat deck then ? The dismal batting we saw from Pakistan doesn't make the toss decision a poor one.

Let's run through the last few Tests at Headingley - ALL of which were early season Tests:

Sri Lanka chose to bowl first against England in 2016 and LOST.
England chose to bowl first against New Zealand in 2015 and LOST.
England bowled first against Sri Lanka in 2014 and LOST.
England opted to bat first against New Zealand in 2013 and WON.

So no, its not a case of always bowling first in England. Need I remind you we bowled first at Edgbaston on our last tour and lost. We won the toss at Lord's in 2016, batted first and won.

Its easy to criticise the toss once it backfires. We're all genuises in hindsight.

Need an on off day so that our main bowlers can bowl all the overs. we can keep chipping away and England don't get to far ahead by close. If we get 35 overs in we can take 6-90

England might just sneak away with a draw

Because the game moved so quickly yesterday, and Pakistan only scored 174, I am not so sure a rained out day is so good for Pakstan, since I suspect England only need about 3 and a half days to win . . and God Forbid, they bat in the sun, that will only make it worse for Pakistan . .

Pakistan's best chance to even think of a comeback is get quick wickets under cloud cover . . unfortunately, the clouds have brought along rain!

Still a lot of time left. Forecast is ok for tomorrow. Don't think rain will save us. Need to take wickets otherwise looking at an impossible task.

And what if Pakistan manages to score 350 in 2nd innings with slow run rate.

You mean the rain won't save England.

What’s the update on the rain ... any chance of play today ??

I am surprised people are already looking for a draw. Pakistan can actually easily win this Test Match.
All they need is to bowl England out for 275 or less. And not concede a lead of over 100.

In 2nd Innings Pakistan only needs to bat slightly better and put a total of just 275. That is not huge asking. A Target of 175 on day 5. Under Pressure England, they will crack.

No. We need at least 250 to defend.

Glad the match isn't down in the South because it's nice and sunny here in London and would have been perfect batting conditions for England.

A - the sun was far from blazing but yes, it was out....woop.

B - the deck may look flat but swing does not occur from the pitch, it occurs in the air and when the air grows moist and warm, it can swing a bit more at times.

C - simply using a toss as a barometer for those teams losing/winning is ridiculous. Sri Lanka for example, had one of the worst test bowling attacks to ever tour England in the 21st century, they could have played 15 players and would have still lost. And just looking at last year, the windies won by bowling first.

Now, I'm not saying bowling first equates to an automatic win but when you factor in the country, the type of bowlers Pakistan have and England's previous performances, this would have been the smarter choice.

Sometimes it goes beyond simply seeing the sun shine a bit.

It is forecasted to rain all day tomorrow in Leeds #Google. Day 4 will be cloudy. Advantage Pakistan.

I dont think there will be a play today. If it is it will be late in the evening.

Pakistan bowlers need to be discipline in their line up and keep England checked with drive shots every now and then but keep it simple and bowl good line and length.

Regarding can PAK make a come back, well they can if they show the same beliefs like the first test and do not go to serious about the conditions and play their strokes, they can set the momentum when batting 2nd inning. Pakistan dont have an impact batsmen in the line up, someone’s like Umar Akmal who yes have problems in his career, but he is the kind of batsmen that change the momentum and make the batting look easy outhere, only Asad Shafiq plays shots and sarfraz.

I hope it rains tomorrow as well because that will leave England alot to do in a short time.

Pakistan must believe they can draw this game and bat v well in the 2nd inning and must aim for 400 to save themselves. Rest is pakistan kismat if they can win or not in England.

The rains are threatening to stop Pakistan from winning this series 2-0. This is so unfair!

Today there's 50% chance of rain and there's been no play since morning.

Tomorrow there's 70% chance of rain so like I said this morning there won't be any play before day 4.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but was it a good decision to let Usman debut?
In my opinion, no, because Fakhar Zaman would have fared better considering the fact he has played in England and New Zealand, where he was our best batsmen.

The reason why I showed those past few Test results at Headingley is because it shows bowling first does not demonstrate an advantage at this ground. You're not gonna get a Windies miracle chase every Test.

Of course there was going to be swing on Day 1 of a Test up North with the new Dukes. But whatever swing there was could've been managed with the proper technique - which we showed at Lord's ! So why wouldn't Sarfraz trust his batsmen ? At Leeds you must ride out that first session then as we saw - batting would've eased out later on and we wouldn't need to debate the toss.

The converse scenario is Sarfraz inserts ENG to bat and they rack up 400. Then these posters criticising him not bowling first would whinge how we should've batted first !

Again, its easy to jump on the captain's back once a decision backfires with benefit of hindsight. However once a decision is made - its up to the players to make the best of it which we didn't. What's done is done now.

I thought that it was a reasonable decision since we get a chance to try out another new upcoming batsman. Usman deserves his place in the team on merit. Hence nothing too big.

However it's time for the seniors to feel the heat. When the pressure is on and the ball is swinging and wickets are falling. That is when I expect the seniors to stand their ground and show some spine.

Hence I won't speculate too much about what would the outcome be if Zaman was chosen over Usman. The culprits of the first innings failure are the seniors such as Azhar, Shafiq and Sarfaraz for sure.
