England vs Pakistan | 2nd Test | Headingley, Leeds | June 1-5, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

There you go bros.

Couple of quick wickets in coming.

England were able to get some quick runs but don't let that discourage you. We are still going to see some English tears.

Just how I was imagining it in my head.

Amir bowling scrambled seam to get the edge to keeper/1st slip.

Taken a few overs to find our rhythm. Need to nip another couple of wickets quickly.

Good start by Hassan and Amir.

They are bowling the right line and length now and looking to pitch it up.

Inshallah can nip away a few quick wickets here and trigger a collapse!

Edge! But doesn’t carry!!

C’mon Amir let’s keep pushing!!

"I haven't seen Abbas bowl in the shorter formats"

-His T20 coach :wasim

Quick question - when Abbas was bowling at Lords was it with the slope, hence the increase in pace? Or am I missing something here? (He’s around 79kph at headingly compared to 83 at Lords)

Amir bringing a couple deliveries into Malan & setting him up for the out swinger

Sarfraz & Hassan making the same mistake they made against Bess at Lords. Trying to trap him with the short ball when they should continue to bowl a full and attacking length - aiming for the outside edge and LBW

As long as England are trailing it gives us the mental edge.

Hasan not showing the same wicket taking ability as in ODI.

Go ahead Hasan prove me wrong.

After playing for near about 10 years Azhar should be shame of himself to see how Bees is batting instead of tuk tuking and score nothing. Our top order batting is a disgrace.

Pak treating Bess like a tailender bowling short stuff. He has been pretty solid thus we need to keep it tight with the right length.

I just feel like at times - particularly in Test cricket - Hassan needs to improve his consistency.

He’ll bowl one deliver wide which Malan left, then attacking the stumps/pads and then wide again which is driver for 4 by Malan.

Needs to just bowl the a consistent probing length & look to build pressure and get a wicket that way rather than looking for a ‘magic delivery’

Inshallah they are bowling well today need to get few quick wickets.

Yup - there is plenty of time left in this game and we just need to be patient.

I don’t think we should look for a ‘magic delivery’ - we should just be looking to bowl a consistent probing length, build pressure and look for the caught behinds and LBWs.

Exactly. He tries too many lengths.

Just tuned in.

How's the ball been behaving? What about the Root dismissal?

Balls not doing much.

Amir picked up Root by bowling a consistent line and length.

Need the bowlers to be more disciplined and be patient

If the ball is not doing much then do not give away free runs. Build pressure and force the bat to make a mistake.

The other pacers can learn a lot from Amir.

Pak bowlers need either first day pitch or score board pressure to get the batsmen out. Otherwise there is no threat at all. England will score 400+ against this bowling attack easily.

Fitness of our fast bowlers are really poor. Can't ball 10+ overs in a row

And will score 10 against atg indian bowling.

They just didn't score enough runs. If they had got 250 or so, that would have put some pressure on England, they had nothing to bowl at, and without a couple of early wickets it was a pretty slim chance they would get away with it. England used the new ball better this time.

If it doesn't rain again, without a moving ball or Shadab magic, England could add another 100 before the close of play without too many wickets being lost.

This is England's match to lose.

Tuned in for a bit... Garbage bowling so far zero intensity

This match is over, unless it rains and rains. It is all about damage limitation from here - we will do well to avoid an innings defeat.

He just got 8 wickets last match.

Seems like that performance was an aberration judging from his bowling so far in this innings which is plain mediocrity on display. No pace, no swing, no venom, no passion, gun barrel straight, just trundling along for the sake of bowling, utter garbage. This is why you shouldn't glorify someone to high heaven on the basis of one game - which is unfortunately the norm on PP - needs to replicate such performance consistently to be taken seriously.

Bess isn’t the most skillful of players, but he has character. He might carve out a good Test career for himself.

I find Bess so frustrating. When watching him bat from the comfort of the couch it looks like he has so many vulnerabilities - however credit to him - he performed well in Lords and is delivering once again in Leeds

There have been too many boundaries today which is disappointing.

Like Asif, Abbas needs grass to succeed. Asif has had many toothless performances on grass-less pitches.

One game? He's picked up 40 wickets in 7 games, including on dead pitches in the UAE and the Carribean

Rain didn’t help Pak bowlers. Ball is wet. It’s coming on to the bat better and not swinging.
