What's new

England vs Pakistan | 2nd Test | Headingley, Leeds | June 1-5, 2018 | Day 2 | Match Thread

Just get these 2 out and Bairstow soon and we're back in the game!

I had said the same about Handscomb, who scored a ton against us.

That was one of the least deserved 100s, full of nudges and prods.

At that time, he was being lauded by everyone.

Handscomb is a good player, he will bounce back.

I think that is unfair- we should have made 300 batting first and then this game is totally different.
You cant really have a go at the bowlers for not blasting the opposition out for 200 every game lol.
Do you want me to go back and pick out the games where Mcgrath, Lee warne conceded scores of 300 plus. We behave like they never did!

honestly some PPers

Regardless of how batsmen did these bowlers should be doing better or at least look threatening.

Spot on...

Stage is set for Buttler to blow away this toothless attack and put Pakistan to the sword. He is tailor-made for situations like these.
Oh bhai, this toothless attack ripped THE WORST ENGLAND'S TEST TEAM (according to you)!

England slowly but surely running away with the game, 30 more runs without a wicket and Pakistan would find it hard to contain the batsmen.

Game was over the moment we were reduced to 90/7. People love their false hopes.

Bess looking more assured than Malan.Pakistan batting has been pathetic here. They need to replace Faheem with a proper batsman

You never know with this English side, they've a knack for capitulating time and again when the going gets tough. Irony is when Nasir calls Pakistan mercurial but is oblivious to England's pathetic choking tendencies. Point being I'd not write off Pakistan just yet, a couple of quick wickets and you never know.

Think we should have played to our strengths and bowled regardless of the pitch.

Lots of experts were taking nap during lords test have came out as soon as england got some lead.... hang on test is not over yet...

After Nass praises Amir's wicket, Botham's instant reaction?

'Oh it was the bounce that surprised Malan more than anything else.'

We aren’t out of this at all. If Azhar and Imam can see off the new ball we are in the game.

Brilliant start by Amir after lunch.

Getting Malan first ball and then making Bairstow play

Same as some experts on PP

This. It was such an easy decision to bowl first for Sarfraz:
1) Overcast conditions on day 1 which would have helped the bowlers
2) English batsmen were short of confidence
3) Pakistan's bowling is their strenght
4) Pakistan's batting lineup is very junior; only 2 batsmen in top 7 have played more than 50 tests.

And yet Sarfraz screwed up big time

Its an inexperience team, give them a break this is ALSO a learning curve, they will make mistakes like this and will learn. When they will travel to SA, NZL and Australia they will receive such conditions so i dont think it was a bad decision it was v defensive batting and that is why they didnt score 300 runs.

A bit too wide there from Amir allowing Bess to free his arms.

The length is right, but Amir needs to get his line right as well.

Yeah don't look back, finally been put out of misery. And couldn't be more happier to see him falling 1 short of his 50.

Very interesting thing happened:

Amir thought he had Bess, as he appealed for LBW. And then convinced Sarfraz for review.

So, in his mind, he thought it was pitching in stumps line, and straightened a bit. But replay showed that was not the case.

So, in his mind, amir knows he is bowling good line. But he is leg sidish. And he is leg sidish, as he is bowling away from stumps. & bowling bit short. Which increases the chance of ball landing in leg side area, taking lbw out of equation.

So, thats why you see half appeals, and more leg byes with Amir. He could get more wickets if he bowl full and bowl close to stumps.

2 wickets after tea and 2 new batsmen...if we can't get them out at least keep them quiet till the new ball

Well played to Dom Bess. He deserved at least one more run, but did a fine job.

Buttler needs to go early or he could take the game away from us.

And Botham just praised the catch a few times. Someone must have told him, 'Would it you Sir Ian to praise the opposition and be professional at least?'

Thats what i want more. Like first ball of 70 over. Good amir

We need Azhar and Haris to score a big hundred and we will win this match.

Man, if he bowled that yorker in line, it would have been lbwed

Bairstow and Buttler with their style of batting can take a game away from you quickly. Keep it tight and build pressure.

Good shape from Amir. But again had he were bowling close to stumps, the ball would have been delivered straight from hand and would have been at stumps more.

Left arm swing and leg spin against England = collapse.

Come on boyz!

200+ target in last innings and we definitely have 50-50 chance with Shadab getting turn and bounce.

If England take 150 lead in 1st inning then it means Pakistan have to score 350 runs in 2nd inning to set 200 target for England in 2nd inning. Pakistan would need 2 batsmen to score 100s at least

Why is it that Amir bowls better in his second or third spell? All his wickets have been with the older ball this tour.

Also his pace is up in his second or third spell (90 mph) while with the new ball it's usually aound 83 mph.

Slightly weary of every Tasleem, Danish, and Haroon going on about AMIR NEEDS TO PITCH IT FULL.

Who knows more about fast bowling? The guy who Wasim Akram said knew more about bowling than he did at 18 or Tariq, Daulat and Hafeez? He may not have accomplished what many hoped, but I think he understands fast bowling better, as do Azhar Mahmood/Mickey who say same thing ad nauseam.
