While they have continued to demonstrate their batting prowess with mammoth scores, England will look to improve their bowling, especially in the middle overs and at the death, when they clash against Pakistan in the fourth ODI on Friday, 17 May.

Overview

England v Pakistan
4th ODI
Trent Bridge, Nottingham
Friday, 17 May; 13:00 hrs local, 12:00pm GMT

Eoin Morgan's England have been a batting powerhouse in recent times, scoring in excess of 300 on a consistent basis in one-day cricket. They haven't lost a bilateral series at home since conceding a five-match series to Australia 2-3 in September 2015. Moreover, each of their high-scoring efforts in recent times has seen a different architect.

Besides, Ben Stokes showed some sparks of form in the third ODI. The Durham all-rounder had a mediocre IPL season. In Bristol, he scored 37 off 38 balls in England's successful chase of 359, before being run out.

This England ODI side is like that great Aussie side...if Hayden didn’t get you, then Ponting would & if they missed out, Gilchrist would.

England will be without regular captain Eoin Morgan, who has been banned from the game due to a slow over-rate offence in the Bristol game. His deputy, Jos Buttler, who had been rested for that match, is expected to return and lead the side. Jofra Archer, who was also rested for the previous two games, might get a look in as well.

Pakistan might have lost the previous two games, but the form of their openers, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, will buoy them in the series decider. With back-to-back fifties, Asif Ali, too, has made a strong case for himself ahead of the World Cup.

Jonny Bairstow (England): The wicket-keeper batsman has carried his rich form from the West Indies tour and the IPL into the series, where he has scores of 51 and 128. His ability to play pace and spin equally well makes him the player to watch out for in Nottingham.

Fakhar Zaman (Pakistan): Fakhar Zaman has been a top performer for Pakistan in the last few years. He scored a blistering 138 in the second ODI. Zaman has a history of performing in these conditions - he set up Pakistan's triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 with a century in the final. He will be eager to continue his good performances in the fourth ODI, but can it translate into a win for his side, as it had in that epic 2017 final?

Conditions

England amassed 444/3 and 481/6 in two of their last three completed games at Trent Bridge. Clear skies, minimal chances of rain and short boundaries might just produce another high-scoring entertainer.

Squads

England: Eoin Morgan (c), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Buttler (wk), Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Chris Jordan, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, James Vince, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood

And what has Abid Ali done wrong? Both our openers have justified their place, we can rest either of Fakhar/Imam and try out Abid Ali.

The openers will play as they should, those two are doing well and guaranteed to play every game from here till the WC as it should be the case. They should play all game to get used to the condition even more. Abid Ali can be given a chance after the WC as this tournament has come to soon for him.

All other 3 places are justified as lets see if those 3 can improve the middle lower order and bowling.

cold and raining up here. Could be a low scoring match..with Mark wood ripping through our batting lol..

I am hearing from media sources that imam ul haq will be rested for today and abid ali will play in place of imam while hafeez will play in place of haris sohail plus hasnanin in place of faheem.

I hope Pak bat first and get the humiliation over and done with asap in the second innings.

Bowling first is a 500 score and our helpless bowlers will be scarred for life

Worst place in the world to make an ODI appearance as a bowler on the eve of a world cup. Feel sorry for Husnain

Don't feel sorry, if i was a bowler and mentally strong. I would like to play and testing conditions. If he is mentally strong this will be a good exp for him. Unfort most well nearly pak players arnt

Seniors are back! No excuses from the media and ex-player lobby today :misbah

So far both the teams bowled poorly and batted beautifully. There is only one factor where Pakistan could have done better and that is fielding.

England won because it was better fielding side at the end of both matches.

Out of the WC?

That looks nasty. It will be cruel if it happens

This looks verryyy ugly for Imam . . hope he's okay and he will be fine . . can't afford to not have him opening at the world cup

It's sad they kicked out Haris for a dud Malik.

Imam might be out of the cup if it's a broken bone.

This team is a lot better than the last one and it's pretty close to what the standard 11 should be for the world Cup. Return of Amir can be great as we do need a player on these pitches who can be economical and the runs he saves us will have a great impact of the results of the match.

That extra batsman luxury today is gone. We're now down to the same no. Of batsman but 1 short of bowler.

Faltu, yaar. I was looking forward to watch Imam bat. Hope he is okay.

Look on the bright side, he will be facing one of these two bowlers soon

this team would be better if shadab swaps with imad and even then one bowler short

Ouch that was nasty and hurtful. Ahmed shehzad ran to his room to pack after he saw this on tv

Lol someone said Mark Wood is a doubt

He has changed a lot since 3rd test against WI. Pakistani batsmen looking clueless so far

Hopefully Hasnain can get some inspiration from Archer and Wood

What a poor bowling attack we have.
And now short on a batsmen too possibly.

Long day ahead.

More like Abid Ali won't be needing a return ticket right now.

It would be extremely sad if this happens

More like the weak link is gone, already had wasted 13 balls for that monumental 3 runs.

England look a proper team with Wood and Archer in the team. No more trundlers

The inclusion of Wood and Archer make England’s attack very competent. Their full-strength attack is nowhere near as bad as people think. It certainly better than Pakistan’s and probably on par with New Zealand’s.

Archer, Wood, Willey/Woakes, Stokes, Rashid and Moeen - that is more than capable of complementing their incredible batting unit.
