In a series defined by big-hitting, batsmen from both sides will aim to out-muscle each other, with the series at stake in Mumbai.

Overview

India v West Indies, 3rd T20I
Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
Wednesday, 11 December; 07:00pm IST, 01:30pm GMT

At long last, West Indies have another T20I win. It’s their second in 11 games this year, but this series has seen a marked improvement in their performances. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were too good for them in the first game, but they pushed India hard nevertheless.

Lendl Simmons’ love affair with India continued – he averages 41.66 against them, as opposed to 24.57 overall – as he slammed an unbeaten 67, but it’s the performances of their younger lot – Nicholas Pooran, Evin Lewis and Brandon King – that would please West Indies more.

India have let themselves down on the field this series. They dropped five catches in the series opener, but got away with it, thanks to another scarcely believable performance from Virat Kohli. But they didn’t get lucky the second time, as they paid the price for dropping both Simmons and Lewis in the early parts of their innings.

Their bowling hasn’t been up to the mark either. Yuzvendra Chahal still hasn’t rediscovered the highs of 2018, when he formed a lethal combination with Kuldeep Yadav. Deepak Chahar has gone for 91 runs in 7.3 overs so far. Would India be tempted to replace him with Mohammed Shami? Even the usually accurate Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been off the mark. Against a team full of power-hitters, there is no more room for such lapses, as the two teams scrap it out for the series in Mumbai.

Shivam Dube announced himself on the international stage with a 30-ball 54, before Rishabh Pant laid the finishing touches to lift India to 170/7 on a slow pitch. They had their chances to put West Indies under early pressure, but fluffed their lines. West Indies cantered to victory, by eight wickets in the 19th over, with each of their top four making contributions. Simmons led the way with his 67* off 45 balls.

What they said

Virat Kohli, India captain: "We had to get those 15 extra runs to defend, but look, if you field like that, then no total is big enough. Last two games we have been below par in the field. We were good with the ball, in the first four overs we created enough pressure, and then you drop two chances in a T20 game in one over, that's going to cost you.”

Kieron Pollard, West Indies captain: “What we can control is what's in front of us. To be able to restrict India to 170 after my expensive over, it was fantastic. The way we batted, we had discussed how to approach the game, and the boys played it well.”

Conditions

A clear evening is expected in Mumbai. The Wankhede Stadium hasn’t hosted a T20I in two years. But, despite its small dimensions, in its last game, Sri Lanka were limited to 135/7, before India were pushed to the last over before successfully chasing it down, with five wickets to spare.

High scoring ground. West Indies players enjoy this ground in teh IPL. Chasers are favorites here.

Rahul putting these mediocre windies bowlers in their place! Sheer class! He's such a delight to watch when in song!

If India can bat with 200+ SR, then the windies can bat with 300+ SR. This is going to be an exhibition!

this is what rohit sharma has to play in initial overs in t20 rather than wasting balls.

Lewis loves getting injured. I remember once he was 170 plus not out in ODI vs England and then injured himself

Pant :))) If he can't play in such a patta pitch, he can't play anywhere.

Kohli is already pumped. He is nodding his head and saying something to someone on the field.

I think williams started it by doing that silence action pointed toward kohli and kohli reacting back...
Wtever am loving the batting and atmosphere its on 🔥

Virat Kohli is making the West Indian bowlers pay for making him miss spending time with his wife on their wedding anniversary. :))) :))) :)))

Just out of this world hitting by Kohli. He's light years ahead of everyone as the best batsman.

Kohli is racing away. But this total is not safe here. Small ground. lightning quick outfield. ball comes on

70 off 29 notout...that too after being challanged by opposition bowler....

ALL Hail The king

What a inning by virat .world best bestman for a reason .root ,Smith , Williamson can't do this even in dream .

70* in 29
7 sixes
4 fours

Virat Kohli now holds the record to smash fastest fifty by an Indian captain in T20I history...

He's too passionate on the pitch (not that it's a bad thing) Different guy of the pitch. Like Ronaldo

Im all for "teet for tat",if you are challanged on the pitch you must answer it on the pitch.
Enough of good boy shush types..

Useless Pant getting chance after chance...India are making same mistake like ODI world cup by giving failed players so many chance before the WC and depriving others...

Iyer can play at high strike so why not give him 6 innings at No. 3 to see what he can do...

This should be the end of Pant...if he play T20 for India again...it would be travesty...you just can't take India cap so so casually and then give a foolish smile every time....

Kohli is definitely a bit OTT so he looks a bit idiotic at times but he's a good cricketer so I guess it cancels out

So finally the king decides to take t20 seriously again, seeing all those lesser players occupying all the top spots in the ranking must have irritated him.

Kohli could have scored ample of runs in T20s from 2017-2019 but he took ODIs and Tests more seriously

Most 200+ Scores In T20Is

IND - 15*
Aus - 12
SA - 11
Eng - 8
NZ - 8

This proves that you don't have to be a muscle-bound brute to hit sixes at will. Yuvi, Rohit, Kohli Rahul they all hit big and looked classy af at the same time.
