What's new

India (445 & 430/4d) defeat England (319 & 122) by 434 runs in third Test to take 2-1 lead in five Test match series

Now that's a partnership.

49 of 55. Not what kuldeep was doing in the first hour of the day.

No need to declare.

Bazball demands a chase must be attempted anyhow. They will try chasing 550 in 90 overs. Let them.

India would look for a minimum lead of 500. Jaiswal to reach 200 and Sarfaraz to get to a 50.

Still a decent wicket to bat. Better to declare soon than giving them less time to survive.

Could have easily made 150 runs but nevertheless good session, thanks to Jaiswal and Sarfaraz looking good too.

India's tactics have been spot on today. They started steady, let the night watchman bat on comfortably and tire the bowlers out, then picked up the pace with the young guys. Another 50ish runs should do it - between 10 - 15 overs after lunch.

gets them to 475+ & more importantly , bowl 48 overs today
475 will not be enough. 135 overs is too many to score 475+.

This pitch is a highway now. Bowlers will get pummeled here irrespective of their reputation. India must score 80 Odd runs in the next 10 overs and then declare.
Even Kuldeep On this pitch smashed some big blows. That explains that it is a batting paradise out there.

So you expect Kuldeep to bat with that kind of strike rate?

Why would you send a tailender at 4 when you are already 300 runs ahead in the game? He should have gotten out because he is allowing England a chance to draw this game by scoring at 30 strike rate when others are doing it at 80.

India add 118 runs for the loss of two wickets in the morning session. Pretty good to see these numbers if you are an indian Team fan.

Sarfraz is a terrific player of spin. This should put an end to Iyer’s misery in Tests.
Sarfraz is a must in Indian conditions. Even in ODI’s as a no.4 or No.5.
There should not be a sc eleven or foreign eleven. Jaiswal , sai sudarshan, pant will be in competition. Pant will be slotted in 4 and kl at 5.Sarfaraz will be tested in aus .We will have to wait till then.We need all weather players only otherwise we can't win away matches.

Don't judge the Rajkot fourth day pitch till the Indian spinners have had a chance to use it. There'll be one or two Bazball innings but I'll be very surprised if they cross 300 in 70ish overs.

He was a night watchman in case you forgot.

No way England under Stokes will go for draw. And we still have 5 sessions left in this test.

It'd have been utter stupidity on part of Kuldeep to get out for some quick runs.

Then the watchman should go back home once night is over. 😂

India will bowl before tea for 10-15 overs. So 4 and a half sessions with 500 plus runs. The pitch is very good to bat even now. Eng just batted poorly on 3rd day.

That's not how it works in cricket though.

If India fails to win the game, Kuldeep and Ashwin are the ones to suffer the blame. These two together combined to cost us the game if that happens.

only thing - is Rohit brave enough to give 135 overs to his bowlers to defend 500 ? ps - hopefully not go for silly personal milestones like Jaiswal 200 ....

This is downright silly. There is a very thin line between being brave and being stupid.

200 is not a silly milestone.

Dravid is still bullied for declaring when Sachin was close to 200, I dont think he will want to be bullied for declaring before Jaiswal gets to 200 :afridi .

I am glad they are helping him improve his batting skills. Down the road he is going to be our main spinner. SO his batting is needed.
Agree with this. He needs to develop his batting skills as much as possible. No amount of net practice will give him the valuable game time he is getting here in the middle.

Gill ran himself out. He was ball watching, and didnt look at Kuldeep anytime after Kuldeep hit that shot.

It is nightwatchmen's job to look at his partner and the batsman's job to take a decision. When two competent batsman are playing together, then you look at partner who is on strike.

Kuldeep is not a competent batsman, he is Ishant Sharma with a bat.

To all the folks panicking about needing 550, there's a reason why in 150 years of cricket on roads, involving all-time great batters, terrible bowlers etc., 418 is the highest score chased.

With any other team, I'd say declare now since the main deciding factor in winning games like these is the number of overs needed to be batted out but out of some respect for this fascinating English team, I think 10 more overs and 50 runs is appropriate.

cricket is a TEAM game & if your personal milestone hinders the team Cause ....

Indian fans dont think like that. They just want to blame someone. It gives them peace of mind.

Just like abfan is hell bent on blaming Kuldeep for Gill running himself out.

Strike rate of 29.67 after being 300 runs lead.

No I am blaming him for slow batting. It is team's cause, not milestones. Don't make up stories brother :inti

Ind should bat for an hour after tea if possible. The pitch will deteriorate that match making the bowlers task a bit more easier. Eng will be forced to walk the talk of not playing for a draw even if the target is 876..

We will know India's plan when the batters come out to bat.

I expect them both to bat very aggressively until Rohit deems a certain lead to be enough and declare.

Relax guys, you are giving the English team and Bazball too much credit. They cannot chase 400+ on a 4th-5th day wicket in India with Ashwin/Jadeja/Kuldeep/Bumrah bowling. Periodt.

India should have enough runs to go all out attack. The thing about England is if they play for draw they will fold eventually. Their best defense is attack.

Their chase depends on their openers. Bumrah has very poor average against both the openers. Once the openers depart, it's basically a matter of time until the other 8 wickets fall. :stokes

We give so many matches to iyer instead of sarfaraz

Going to be another glorious failure with the bat from England. Hopefully we will see some entertainment and 1-2 of the English batters can get in for a couple of hours at least. The interesting thing for a tactical point of view is when Rohit declares - what does he view as safe - 450 is on now, which would usually be super safe, but with 6 wickets in hand and loads of time left I think he’ll want 550-600.

Jaiswal wrote his name among the legend of the game.

Converting each of the first three 100s to 150+ scores
Javed Miandad
Andrew Jones
Brian Lara
Mahela Jayawardene
Matthew Sinclair
Graeme Smith
Yashasvi Jaiswal

Jaiswal is warming up for a man of the series award. What a find.

I see that guy missing in action in this thread who was sooking about England not winning the toss in this test.

Don't think Jimmy has ever been treated like this in a test match
