What's new

India (587 & 427/6d) defeat England (407 & 271) by 336 runs in 2nd Test at Edgbaston

I hope Gill is not one of those players who is great in first innings but walking wicket in 2nd.

PakPassion members should be proud of coining the term 'SENA' here in mutiple discussions and making it go mainstream.

Just heard Harsha Bhogle use it in commentary. Also heard Nasser using it last week.
I tried to coin the term ANUS (Australia, NZ, UK and South Africa) as some cricket in England is played in Wales and Ireland also play tests.

Unfortunately it never took off.

So in Gambhir's bid to beef up batting despite India being down 0-1 in the series, neither the batting is propped up by these bits and pieces players, bowling has become weak as hell too.

Lets all bow down to Gambhir, the master tactician.

Lets prepare for 9th test loss under him.
Jadeja showing my another little brother why he is the boss and the best test all rounder since Kallis. :kallis

He won’t tell you his batting average in last 3 years in away tests though.
:inti

Jadeja better all rounder than Stokes 😂

That's like comparing a fiat to a Ferrari :misbah
I feel distraught for you because it seems you have started watching cricket only recently.

Comparison:

Bowl Avg Stokes 32, Jadeja 24
Bat Avg Stokes 35, Jadeja 35

Overall, Jadeja > Stokes in Tests. :Kallis

Gill century holds up battling England against India

England were held up by India captain Shubman Gill's patient century as their bowlers fought admirably on day one of the second Test at Edgbaston.

After captain Ben Stokes opted to bowl first again, his bowlers battled against Gill's calmness and another flat pitch to limit India to 310-5 at the close.

Chris Woakes bowled KL Rahul off the inside edge in a fine new-ball spell and Brydon Carse found extra bounce to have Karun Nair caught at slip for 31 shortly before lunch.

But opener Yashasvi Jaiswal complied an elegant 87 and after he was caught behind off Stokes, Rishabh Pant put on 66 with Gill as the new-ball zip faded in the Birmingham sunshine.

England hung in, however, and Pant's patience broke after tea when he hit Shoaib Bashir to long-on for 25. Nitish Kumar Reddy was bowled shouldering arms to Woakes in the next over.

That left India at risk of collapse but Gill remained unflustered and reached three figures for the second match in a row in 199 deliveries. He put on 99 with Ravindra Jadeja to see out the final 90 minutes of play.

The tourists, who made three changes including leaving out star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, will be content but memories of England's win at Headingley only adds to the feeling India have a long way to go to bat Stokes' side out of the game.

Familiar feelings in Birmingham

Stokes continues to defy all cricketing convention.

There were clouds overhead when he chose to bowl but the surface looked slow and favourable for batting even before the sunshine arrived after only a couple of overs.

In his mind - and India's - will be England's record chase of 378 against the same opposition here in 2022.

India were 359-3 at the end of day one last week and still lost, meaning there will be no panic in England's camp even if the Jadeja-Gill partnership ensured the day was shaded by their opponents.

Their patience in the field in the afternoon was impressive while Woakes and Carse threatened throughout.

A short-ball ploy attempted before lunch was quickly shelved and instead Stokes cleverly hunted through clever field placements.

India's changes appear an attempt to consolidate their lower order, which could yet prove crucial as they look to go beyond the 465 they made last week.

Should they do so, they will still have every chance of levelling this series but their chances are diminished by the decision to rest Bumrah, whose body is being managed after a back injury earlier this year.

Everyone doing bhrangra on a road pitch. England are spanking india for 800 runs

Correct.

Jadeja got benefited from doctored Indian pitches.
@Ab Fan Keeps pinging me, but is too afraid to talk to me. This pitch is a flat deck. Its obvious everyone will massively inflate their averages but Indians keep ignoring that 🤣.

What's weird is that they wont use this metric for root.

If root has a field day we will hear flat pitch agendas and sachin comparison nonsense

LOL. True.

This is why I don't take their arguments seriously. They have retarded logics.:inti

They are blatantly stupid thats what they are.

I dont really care if their biased towards their team and players but some of their arguments are so moronic that I just cant take them seriously.

@neonoir is experiencing this stupidity first hand atm. Now Ik why they got rid of the espncricinfo comment section :vk2

And even comparing Stokes to Jadeja should be a criminal offence
Giving blanket statements without any proof won’t change the truth, Jadeja has won India more matches and series in tests than Stokes did for England, its so hilariously one sided.

You can live in your own delusional world but reality is that I provided stats to back my opinion and you just gave a random blanket statement showing your negligible knowledge of the game and ignorance of peak level. Stokes is an excellent test captain but he was quite mediocre for a good period of time after winning his team a World Cup in 2019 in ODIs.

In Test cricket, Jadeja has won far more matches and series than Stokes have won. :inti

Yet another one in cow dung tinted glasses forget Jadeja for a minute

Stokes 135* innings is a more meaningful innings than your "God" Sachin has ever made :inti

Such boring pitches this time… Bumrah isn’t playing not sure why they laid this out?

Could an Argument be made that apart from the freak that is Kallis that Stokes is the most balanced all rounder in the history of the game.

The 4 horseman of the 80's were all better bowlers than batters, Gary Sobers on the other hand was a better batsmen than a bowler.

Stokes is equally gifted with both the ball and bat besides the anomaly that is Kallis I can't think of anyone as balanced as Stokes is.
Nah he's not balanced..played mainly as a batter. Fine player though....but you can't call less than 2 wicks per match across a career as balanced all rounder.

Imran was more balanced than both Stokes and Kallis...and from the other leading all rounders of his era.

Ahaha honestly it's like they have been hypnotized by their own delusion.

I've been a long time member but never really posted much but know I have a lot of respect for you guys fighting these farcical individuals

Everything is meaningful with a Colonial bias.

But only him Sobers and Kallis are the only players in history to get 6k runs and 200 wickets.

If Stokes was to get 300 test wickets and 20 centuries would he not be the most balanced after Kallis?

Difficult to quantify balance. There are very few that I think have the perfect balance and could get in as either batter or bowler.

Stokes comparison with Kallis is laughable because the gulf of difference in their batting is massive. He barely averages 35 with bat while Kallis averaged 20 more.

His 158 at Headingley was an ATG knock but otherwise he hasn’t done much with bat, especially in this decade.

Apart from that knock, nothing to be proud of anything in test cricket. His away batting avg against the best in the decade (india and aus )is 27.even his bowling average is near 40 and sr is awful with as high as 66.

This is a crucial knock from Jadeja. Imagine him getting out cheaply in this test would open floodgates and India would have been bowled out around 300.

England are likely to score 450 on this pitch and for India to have a chance or take this game on final day, they need to put 400 on board in 1st inning.

Indians always lying and getting over excited.

Road pitch where england will tonk 700+ now that Bumrah isnt a factor but still acting like jaiswal and jadeja achieved miracles 😣

I felt India fell 50 runs short and a wicket too many...

They need 500 atleast to hope for a draw...

India picking Sundar ahead of Kuldeep gives us an impression that Kuldeep is nothing like a generational bowler and it is just a myth built by some Indian fans over here because he did well way back in 2018 in Sydney test. That’s a venue where other spinners also did well. Aside of that, he mostly played at home.

Gambhir and Gill understands that there is clear drop in quality of bowling aside of Bumrah and hence picking all rounders here because they know the specialist pacers and spinner will also do well only when pitches favour them. So better to go with A/R as it gives them more balance, multiple options and contributions with both bat and bowl.

If the specialists were high quality bowlers who could take the pitch out of the equation, playing them made more sense but India don’t have that.

Gill getting back to back hundreds I feel there should be an asterisk attached to it he's playing against the worst England bowling attack in years, it's basically England's C or D bowling attack.

It's like playing against Australia and their frontline bowlers are Andrew Tye and Jason Behrendorrf :yk2
So whatever English batsmen score in this test should have triple asterisks attached to their scores as Indian attack is even worst. People like Prasidh, Siraj, Akash Deep, Jadeja won't be in most test teams second choice attack.

What's with indians rewriting reality?

Everyone: Laxman was avg, a 46 avg test specialists batting at no 5 is nothing special.

Indians: But but but Eden garden bro.

Everyone: Stokes is a legend, atg knock

Indians: Its just one innings bro?

Had an indian scored a century in a final we wouldnt be hearing the end of it

No one is denying indian attack is rubbish though?

But agenda posters are claiming that Jaiswal, Gill and many others are pulling miracles out their butt?

Look at the pitch, and the bowling attack? Ignoring my jaiswal hate aside lets look at things logically

Everyone knows that gill is not suited for test cricket. He is solid in odi due to his ability to play grounded shots from any angle. Makes it very difficult to get rid of him.

But in test his feet dont move and bowlers bowl waist high or even higher to get an edge. This pitch suits him due to a lack of bounce, Seam or any demons in the pitch.

Him scoring 2 centuries should give it away. Heck england chasing 371 should give it away. These attacks are not the worst in history.

Classic india's attack was far worse. Infact in the 2000's they just like england would rely on a gun batting order of Dravid, Sehwag, Gamguly, Sachin, Laxman to out bat the opposition. Yet classic india never got bullied for 371 on a day 5 test pitch.

Their attack is bad but its not that bad. England had a field day. Infact 5 wickets only fell due to rain and a small area of the pitch going funny business which Krishna and Jadeja managed to exploit?

These English conditions get easier by the 4th innings.

And these Dukes balls are still rubbish. Worst ball manufacturer in the world, currently .

It's actually an Indian , Dilip Jajodia, from one of my alma maters, Bishop Cotton Boys' School in Bangalore :jk
Bro what am I even supposed to say? I respect you alot but seriously what am I suppose to say?

Yo bro congrats, never knew your alma mater crafted the worst cricket ball in history :vk2

India need 550 to challenge England on this road which unfortunately they can't get to now that they have lost 5 wickets.

Rain on days 4 & 5 will ensure draw in this test.

Tbf, Gill will become a great odi player. His technique and shot style is perfect for it.

He will be a terrible test player though unless he gets a flat track. He's not suited for test cricket.

As a captain though he's god awful. A very very very timid personality. Joke of a fielding captain too as evident from last game

What can you expect from a puppet captain who became a captain of the test side with an average of only 35.

Early predictions for day 2, day 3 and day 4

1) India get bundled out for 400.
2) Gill and Jadeja score 140-150 and 60-70
3) India tail gets exposed again
4) england lead the charge posting 700
5) Brooks, Root and Duckett all score super centuries with a gritty 50 from Jamie smith.
6) India will be 4 down end of day 4.

India was in a good position in the 1st test also.. they started strong but they lost in the end... This game giving same vibes

Bhai its a flat pitch. Infact the 1st test was very one sided but bumrah masked humiliation in the 1st innings and rain masked it in the 2nd innings.

England were cruising to a 10 wicket win, rain however caused 2 weird turning patches on the pitch which both kirishna and Jadeja amd a few other bowlers started to exploit which is why england lost 5 wickets.

This time their is no bumrah and no rain on day 2 and 3

Yes gill also needs to takes the wickets and catch of others fielders as well. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

This is only things expect from Tuktukraj fans. Don't worry he will never play any test or T20 cricket for india.

:kp

But Travis Head the tulla averages only 42 despite batting at 5 : 😭

This time India should not give away the advantage. And don't try to match the bazz-ball non-sense, just play to your strength... Aim for 500-600... and take this innings to even 3rd day if possible and annoy them...

Funny how one wicket now means we are all out within 10 minutes for another 10-20 runs lol

But Travis Head the tulla averages only 42 despite batting at 5 : 😭

An all format batter with 2 crucial centuries in cups, a wtc century, 40+ avg in test and odi, 104 sr in odi and 160+ in t20.

Is being compared to a test only specialist who averages 46 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻.

Ofcourse a test onpy specialist would avg higher. Not that laxman was a test onpy specialist. He has played 80+ odi games more then Travis head has.

Indians's made up a false narrative about him calling him sone great, some sort of crises man and india's ace test specialist.

He was rubbish as a test opener as well which is the most difficult position to bat in. He begged the team and the selectors to not make him open.

After that he was a good consistent 45-48 avg batter in all conditons who played a few atg knocks.

But Indians hyped him for no reason.

We all if an indian scored a century in a final on 2 seprate occasions we would never hear the end of it and propaganda would start.

That's why people like Gillespie, Starc, Cummins... are gold! They know how to bite the time (relax through batting on flatter pitches rather than bowling on those... They understand the difficulty of bowling on lifeless pitches, so they rather relish batting against harmless ball... Late order & tail also have a role to play - especially in test cricket...)

I have a feeling this test might be a draw due to day 4 and day 5.

As much as I hate Indian agenda 🤡. When it comes to Team india, its still an impressive achievement if they manage to draw vs England and score 500+.

Indians aren't beating England without Bumrah though.

However england should look to punish india for 700-800 runs with root scoring a century.

Not only will it mentally defeat India who are over reliant on a chucker, but it will also damage their psyche knowing full well their god is nothing more then a human with root edging nearer and nearer.

At the end of the day their can only be one god of test cricket and he was given the Title of Don. :don

That's the best strategy against bazball. Grind their bowlers for a bit. They don't get much rest.

Anyway I am not interested in dealing with indian stooges atm. I just wanna watch the game and enjoy either a loss or a draw with England torturing india on day 2 and 3.

Honestly I've already put 3 of em on ignore. I should add another. It's not worth it tbh.

Am too tired to deal with nonsense.

Now let me watch in peace, I have been dealing with this farce for 2 years now.

This pitch is even more of a belter then the first pitch, good god.

Atm it looks like a pakistan pitch pre aqib. They crafted a road with even smaller boundaries then the 1st test. Good God.

How unfortunate are all the batters in the last 1.5 decade who did not get to bat on these kind of pitches against this toothless English bowling attack?

I feel bad for Virat, Babar, Rizwan

No need to feel bad for the other 2 jokers as they will bat on said pitch in the upcoming series.

However my guess is england aint gonna curate this. They only did so to nullify Bumrah. That much is clear.

Bumrah had a good spell but the 2nd spell made it clear that he isnt going to have the best of series this time around.

Ironically they planned for Bumrah to.play, this test is even more of a road then the last.

In hindsight i guess its ok not to waste Bumrah's body on these kind pitches.

I like Carse's jumpy bowling action.

He's graduate from Dinda Academy.

England should realise that would have backfired badly against NZ or SA.

They are lucky India has the most non existent tail in existence that will ensure a high score approach wont work but indian batters will be able to ensure draws eventually if said pitches are curated.

Why not only make 1,3,5 roads? England could have beaten india in the 2nd and 4th test if their was some spice?

Averaging 35 in 82nd Test , real asset when you take in to consideration his 320+ wickets .

Its not of much use if he cannot win us tests with his bowling abroad which hasn't been the case.

I respect his efforts.
But he's got to win us more matches abroad.
