What's new

India (587 & 427/6d) defeat England (407 & 271) by 336 runs in 2nd Test at Edgbaston

After ball is 20 overs old, it becomes lot easier. It's possible for Eng to hang in there and draw this.

Eng has to suvive only 8-10 overs of second new ball. That would be an issue. Rain taking out 10 overs may be very helpful.

England need to be survive 16 over from 2nd new ball while india just need to break current partnership :kp

Jadeja finished last over in under 100 seconds which allowed Sundar to bowl another over before lunch and we got a wickets .

Beautiful Lunch now .

:kp

England lose Ben Stokes for 33 on the stroke of lunch.
A HUGE blow for the hosts. 153-6.

Bangladeshi umpire Shrafuddola is right on the money… pad first and he ruled that out … Stokes was shocked but replay confirmed umpire was spot on… very impressive umpiring … he never rules it out until very sure

Sad moment for Bangladesh.... Shraduddola doing honest umpiring

India have totally Dominated the test from start to finish. This should be a real wake up call for England looking ahead.

Issue is, India will further Strengthen in the next test with the inevitable return of Bumrah. Just Hope Stokes thinks with Clarity rather than Bazzball driven Ego!

India Tightens Grip as England Crumble Before Lunch on Day 5

India moved closer to a famous win in the 2nd Test at Lord’s, picking up three key wickets in the first session on Day 5 to leave England reeling at 153/6 at lunch. Chasing a mammoth target of 607, the hosts now require another 455 runs with only four wickets in hand. The Indian pace attack, led by Akash Deep who has figures of 4/58, made early inroads into England's fragile top order, while Washington Sundar chipped in with a crucial breakthrough.

Ben Stokes (33*) and Jamie Smith (32*) are the last recognized pair at the crease, holding on amidst intense pressure. The Indian bowlers have dominated the morning session with relentless discipline and aggression, showing no signs of letting up. Earlier in the match, India posted commanding totals of 587 and 427/6 declared, backed by stellar all-round performances. With momentum firmly on their side, India looks poised to seal a memorable Test victory unless England can pull off a miraculous turnaround in the final two sessions.

At Lords you bowl first in the right conditions. Will he do that or will he bat first after getting spooked here?

Not only bumrah will play , rin machine prasid will go. Nair will go and sai in.at some point definitely kuldeep too.so its a case of India getting stronger as the series progress .eng can't prepare green tracks as their own ftbs can't play .they will go ahead with flat tracks only.

Also India has a better slip cordon now. India most certainly lost the test due to poro catching.

I must say this match umpiring by Bangladeshi umpire is top notch. Devadwal impress hua wo bhi Bangladeshi person se mtlb kuch to khas hai usme

:kp

Spicier pitches for the rest of the series l, guaranteed.

They'll magically appear regardless of the dry, warm weather.

Archer will more than likely come in. And if Stokes continues with the policy of batting first at all costs, then selection of Bashir is very questionable. I would further strengthen the batting by playing Bethel and use his part time spin in tandom with Root to fill overs here and there.

If flat tracks are preferred choice, then part time spunner may leak runs a lot.As the pacers can't bowl for ever, spunner have to bowl atleast 20 to 25 overs.Archer will bowl in short bursts for sure. It may indirectly push others to bowl more.

We lack Quality spinners in the county Game. For some reason, Leach is surplus to requirement, even though currently he's far better and experienced than Bashir

Pathetic bowling and just wasting the overs . Both spinners looking clueless. :kp

spinners arent good enough to even bowl in turning pitches lmao.

what happened to our spinners.

shows you how a quality player once set can play well in any condition

maybe novelty factor but jamie smith is looking like a class player.

jamie smith doesnt seem to have any weakness apart from the bounce around shoulder height outside off.

Very pathetic captaincy. Put all the fielders near the batsman instead on boundary. Gill is just following the ball. :kp

As I said earlier only rain can save Poms here , there batting has regressed completely in Red ball format.

Shastri comparing some Indian trundler to Michael Holding Indians are full of **** trying to con there public!!
he is not a trundler
as he bowls good pace but yes comparison with holding is absurd.

England do not have a chance here , because new ball will come in soon and India bowlers have bowled far better than English trundlers.

Nvm woakes gone, England aint surviving now
England lost the game when they lost 5 quick wickets in their first innings. If they could have batted 20 - 25 overs , they would have reduced the lead by some margin. Also , they would probably have started batting from today.

England should seriously consider making Jamie Smith a specialist batsman and giving pope the gloves or replace pope with one of james rew or jordan cox
He is on brook's level

england can draw still
Doubt, Cricinfo predicts 41 more overs left.

While cricinfo is usually off. They aren't off by a huge margin. My guess is their are still 33-35 overs left for the day

No , its not likely with new ball coming up , also England themselves do not have a mind set of draw. Baz Ball has destroyed their common sense.
No they are trying to draw atm. But they wont be able to.

akashdeep looks like a fit tank
stronger and fitter than all asian bowlers it seems.

Bhai you can compare your :ssato wasim whoz stopping you :misbah
their trundler. need to mention that
he is a trundler in tests

akashdeep doesnt trundler like tulla shaheen and naseem

he is quick in tests. quick enough

England are losing this by being reckless.

They only survived 55 overs on this flat pitch. :inti
That's how they play their cricket. Always chasing and always aggressive . Can't bag them when that's exactly how they've had whatever success until now.

Here is a comment from Cricinfo (the guy agrees with me): :inti

"Could not understand England's approach in the last innings. They knew won't be able to chase after 3 wickets down yesterday. They could have played to draw the match but may be Bazball had different ideas."

Man trying to save a test match hits the ball in the air, very Pant-esque.

teams lose Test matches , that can happen , the real issue here for Poms is that the mind set , with this kind of mind set they will continue to lose in coming years. Even the 50 over game , they seldom bat full 50 overs.
