India end Day 4 in a strong position at 52/1 chasing 209 to win the 1st Test against England

Where are those people who were saying batting in white ball cricket is tougher? This is ultimate test where even target of 209 looks like a mountain to climb.

Indian batting is superior , they will win this easily , Poms do not have bowling to take quick wickets in group

Broad is finished as a player , England need to move on.

Can't even bowl in the channel in helpful conditions.

But boy if he somehow gets it on....he can run through us. He is that type of a bowler.

So not gonna underestimate him lol.

Easy win for India. Enough batting firepower to do this comfortably.

Something very special needs to happen from England and Anderson's biggest test in my view.

If Rahul remains unbeaten today, he would have batted on all 5 days of this test!

Rohit missing many boundary balls on his pads...should put those away

Rahul looks spectacular.

I had him pencilled as an IPL/T20 hack after the last couple of years but he's out to prove us wrong.

KL gone.

Broad of all people strikes.

The moment he got the channel line right...he gets the wicket.

That's Broad for you.

That was a Stuart Broad special which we don't get to see too often these days. KL must be disappointed, he was in a different zone today. England back in game.

TBH our openers recently doing well. Even in WTC Finals Rohit-Gill gave good start. Problem is the middle order of Pujara-Kohli-Rahane

Pujara and Kohli last time got out cos they had a BLOODY angled bat.

I was shocked when I paused and saw the impact point.

Those 2 deliveries could have easily been defended.

If Puji tries the angled bat nonsense again, he will be gone in no time.

He really was no. :(

I have seen KL centuries less impressive than this knock.

He is doing the basics right. I hope he makes this series count for himself.

As I have already said, Australia was Pant's series. This time England is gonna be Rahul's series. WT20 will be Pandya's turn to prove his worth but in case if he doesn't I won't be too disappointed :))

Maybe they should have brought Jadeja as night watchman instead of (an out of form) Pujara? A quick 30-40 would have put England under pressure going into tomorrow.

Lets hope he does.

About time.

He has to keep doing what he does.

Runs will come.

Even if it doesn't (stuff happens), he is going places with this approach.

This is the guy who can score 100s on green seamers and rank turners.

The world is going to see a batsman who will dazzle them.

This is a big test for Pujji, actually this could be his last series if he fails today, pretty sure he is gonna get dropped after a match or two if he fails in this match

India should win from here barring any long rain spells tomorrow.

Match beautifully poised, hope the rains stay away. Was supposed to take the kids out for the day tomorrow, might have to change the plans 😬

A tantalizing day five awaits at Trent Bridge as India need another 157 runs for victory while England will hunt to take the remaining 9 wickets.

With an overnight lead of 70 runs, India were in search of a breakthrough in the first hour. Mohammed Siraj provided just that with the wicket of Rory Burns who perished for 18 runs.

Immediately in the next over, Jasprit Bumrah too snared his first. The out-of-form Zak Crawley’s struggles in 2021 continued as he edged the ball to Rishabh Pant.

It was the third-wicket partnership of 89 runs between Joe Root and Dom Sibley that gave the hosts a lead. Root registered back-to-back fifties in the Test and his control over the innings suggested a big one was loading.

Sibley departed against Bumrah for a well-fought 28 that came in 133 balls. Then, Johnny Bairstow arrived at the crease to stitch a 42-run stand with Root of which he scored 30 runs. He fell against Siraj after he pulled a short one straight to Ravindra Jadeja at the square leg boundary.

Dan Lawrence joined Root for a quick-fire 25 off 32 balls but Shardul Thakur trapped him in front for his first wicket of the innings. In the second session, England added 116 runs to take their lead to 140 with Joe Root on the verge of his 21st hundred.

Thakur made an immediate impact after tea, with a peach of a delivery that dismissed the dangerous-looking Buttler. Sam Curran and Root stitched together a vital partnership of 37 runs as Root brought up a magnificent century. Soon after though, he had to depart as Bumrah found his rhythm, bringing an end to his excellent knock of 109.

Sam Curran's crucial knock of 32 would come to an end against Bumrah. Stuart Broad would perish in the next delivery itself as Bumrah celebrated his sixth five-wicket haul in Test cricket. Mohammad Shami would finish off the job dismissing Ollie Robinson as India were set a target of 209 for victory.

In reply, India got off to a solid start in testing conditions. Stuart Broad though, had the perfect start to his second spell, bowling a sensational delivery to get the wicket of KL Rahul for 26, who was looking in sublime form.

Rohit Sharma and Cheteshwar Pujara would see through the remaining overs, setting up a nail-biting finale for day five, with India needing 157 more runs for victory.

England was shot out for 183 in first inning bit still favorites to win. Amazing.

They most definitely are not favourites to win, not even the most optimistic England fan would claim that to be the case. The conditions are still fairly conducive for batting, the pitch is as flat as a batting side can hope on the fifth day.

Most Indian fans are scarred by their memories of recent batting collapses by this Indian team, which is why they are circumspect about the team's chances. This is perfectly understandable.

Absolutely right.. On paper India should chase this down but our middle order form is very worrying..

Its not about being scarred.

Its about looking at the reality of the situation.

Let me put it this way....

If we had the 2018 middle order, we would have farrrr better chances of a win.

This MO is something else. Can collapse out of nowhere.

Even at 100/1 there is NO guarantee of Indian win.

That's how dire the situation.

Logically, this is a normal chase.

Should be done without too many issues.

But its anything but normal for this unit.

That failed to chase 194 in Edgbaston

Here atleast we have Pant

I was talking only about MO.

There we had prime Kohli and useful pujara/ rahane.

What do we have here?

Openers and lower order have been bailing us out most times.

If only we could produce such a performance in the WTC Final. It hurts.
