India reach 21/0 at stumps after bowling England out for 183 on Day 1 of the 1st Test

England is in dominant position now. 350+ what they want to score then put india under pressure .

I think India is missing Ishant. He would have been lively on this pitch.

What first innings score would justify the decision to bat first?

I would suggest 270+, and the way they are going they could well reach there. However, an English collapse is never too far around the corner.

Ashwin & Ishant would've been huge upgrades over Jadeja & Thakur.

Indian posters, is this Thakur guy the real deal? What's the consensus on him in India?

To me, he's looked nothing special but I haven't seen much of him - he's posted some impressive numbers though

He's not a hugely talented bowler. Just your standard outswing bowler.

But he is a utility cricketer and assumes value because of the fact that he is the only one among the battery of fast bowlers in India who knows which end of the bat he's holding. So when India needs to pick 4 quicks, because everyone bats like Chris Martin, you need to pick Thakur to not have a lengthy tail even though purely on bowling merit, he's inferior to Ishant and probably Umesh too. So in short, he gets picked to provide balance to the team.

The pitch doesn't look too difficult for batting. But of course India need to be mindful that these are probably the best conditions for batting in the match given that bad weather is forecast for the latter days and so they need to bowl England out for an under par total.

Trent Bridge is known for being the venue in England where a high degree of swing is found and so even if the pitch isn't that challenging, the Duke ball will move in the air under cloudy skies and India need to get England out for underpar score to mitigate that factor.

I mean they need to add 150-200 for the 5th or 6th wicket. 250 will not be enough as a 1st innings total on this deck

The weather is not that great for the next few days so it will get harder to score runs from tomorrow onwards. Plus Indians have not bowled well so far.

They look more like Pakistan attack with two inexperienced bowlers bowling. They should not have dropped Ishant and Ashwin.

On second thoughts, looks like the Indians got deceived by the grass on the wicket. This team combination was perhaps better suited for the conditions in the WTC final and this match would have suited the two spinner combination as there are dry areas around the wicket and the ball seems to get roughed up relatively sooner. The wicket doesn't seem to be as damp as I thought it would be when seeing the pitch.

4 seamers are fine because they still have jadeja. But the selection is wrong Ishant and ashwin should have played.

Gill? You are looking desperate now? :))) India is playing a full strength team. :inti

It's you who are getting desperate lol.:yk
Absence of one player doesn't make your team a B side.
After using that B side excuse for two years you were humiliated by Rishabh Pant when our Actual B team beat Aus.

Aus was missing Mcgrath, just one player and he is thrice the player Stokes is and still Ashes 2005 is celebrated as the greatest victory evee, so don't give me these desperate excuses.Same goes for Aus 2004 victory in Ind, same goes for Pak tour of wi 87. As I said you don't have enough knowledge to participate in a healthy debate.
Now come up with some more desperate excuses

I know you are already scared, good teams don't lose sleep over one player, go check what happened to Eng when they visited India this year in absence of Jadeja and Shami.

Tail would start from no.7 onwards. I know Ashwin has scored centuries but he's very inconsistent with the bat compared to Jadeja. Ishant is probably not even as good as Siraj with the bat.

ENG test batting has become a joke...likes of Sibley, Burns, Bairstow don't belong to international level

And right on cue...

What an over from Shami!

Need to get Sam Curran before he gets going or else we'll have 2018 all over again!

Damn I was following the scores of the Bangladesh Australia match and missed the Lawrence wicket

India would like to wrap them under 220....can't allow Curran and tail to repeat last tour heroics

Eng pick an extra batsman and it still isn't enough for them.
As always, the lower order will take eng to a respectable total
I'm expecting a repeat of 2018 series

Getting the England top 5 out was not a difficult task for India even in 2018. It's the bottom 5 that really hurt India last series.

You are still looking desperate. India is playing its full strength team and England is not. Get over it. Also beating the current Australia team isn't a big deal these days. :inti

Bumrah absolutely owned Butler there...total ownage.

Butler had no clue. One of the best set up and seam bowling there from Jasprit Bumrah.

Test cricket at its very best.

I think India should have played Ashwin , he is no mug with the bat , also he is a very good attacking spin option.

In Australia? Bcoz even WTC Champions NZ got whitewashed there.

You should stop watching cricket if you think winning a series in Aus an Asian side isn't a big deal .
You should stick to watching psl or may be KPL
