Cowan reminds me a bit of Mark Richardson, he's not as talented as other players but digs in.

Ed cowan is making use of the life to given to him by kohli at slip.

So far scored 17 runs since that dropped catch. How many more will he get?

With the old ball, ishant does look threatening to get a wicket(like he did in hyderabad test's second innings).

May be ball is reversing a bit.

Umar Akmal can't even walk into Pakistan test side.

Stop talking nonsense.

in Australian cricket team you play on merit not because you have a senior tag or you can tuk tuk better...and they don't drop players who average in the 40s in their last series.

I just noticed that Steve Smith has a batting average of 57 in first class cricket, and my guess is that's extraordinarily high wrt other Australian batsmen...Why does he not play test cricket more often then? and why do ppl keep calling him bits and pieces cricketer?

good session for India but good day so far for Australia..needs to finish well in the last session.

In Australian side, they don't also chose players who are good enough for delightful 30's.

They don't chose players who play 4's and 6's and get out on 40 runs consistently.

They don't chose players who give fans multiple orgasms but are not good enough to have a brain.

In short , they chose people who can make it big.

Not Abridged Afridis.

Well, we dropped Dean Jones after he averaged 47 against the early 90's Windies ! No idea why.

Another couple of wickets by the end of the day, and it'll be India's day.

On a serious note, Kohli is not the right guy for us to stand at the slip cordon. He seems to drop at least 1 catch per inning.
Sunny and Ravi have been saying it all along. He's not someone who's used to field in the slips.

no brain?lol how many batsmen average 40 with 85+ sr. batting at 6 in the ODIs?Who'd not like to have such a brainless batsman:yk

and you said he can't even make to Psk test side..yeah right how many batsmen on this SA tour even touched UA's average?sure they can score against minnows on flat roads but against quality bowlings you need quality batsmen..:anwar

Smith is doing the right thing by playing shots that are there to be played..no point in tuk tukking..you are going to get an unplayable ball at some time like Cowan did..so better to score some before that..

mrsn - this is a TEST match thread & not a place to talk extensively about Akmals odi batting exploits .

209/4

:four again Smith looking to dominate Ashwin..good attacking cricket this.

Witch doctor's confidence seems to have taken a hit after being dropped for first few tests.

Close of play is 4.30pm, so technically speaking (if spinners bowl in tandem) it is still possible to get an extra over or two than the minimum requirement of 98 overs for the extended day.

I was just making a point..if a batsman averages 40 batting at 6 in the ODIs against non minnow sides...I'll have him bat 6 in tests too..

just saw his last few series stats and can't believe why he was dropped..I sense some conspiracy..is there more to it?

these two are good against spin..can't believe they missed first two tests.

1 hour to close of play

At least 15 overs should be possible

So far 90 overs been bowled

new ball is due btw .....

If he wanted he would have taken it long time back, old ball is helping spinners to grip the ball better as well as giving some amount of spin(eg. post lunch our spinners were more effective). New ball will be a waste at this point in time.

Instead, he could use it in the morning.
