What's new

India vs England | 1st Test | Ahmedabad | 18/11/12 | Day 4

Bluddy hell, if you'd offered that at any point over the last week we would have bitten your hand off. England's best chance was always to get a look at India, build some form and draw this one, then make inroads later on.

We are still favourites to lose here though. Lols I guess Uncle Aleem just kept us in it there, makes up for the Fatel dismissal. He always redresses the balance

Yeah a Cook and a Prior for a Bell and Fatel seems fair to me :46:

Only problem is that.. how to deal with spinners... and thatz it.....

And that, kids at home. Is called delusion.

Anything is possible, but this scenario is extremely unlikely. Cook would have to get a triple-hundred and Prior 150.

Much more likely that England will lose, but the manner of the losing is important.

No wickets for the last 50 overs and people are comparing him with Ajmal???

How many of those appeals were close enough :)

Who knows, maybe Fatel would still be batting. Maybe Cook would have been on strike to Prior's chance and smacked that ball (for one). If you're going to mess up a call, is there ever equivalency in a call going the other way next?

Well made century for Ashwin. Bowling really flat now. Need a wicket here India :bill lawry

Yeah in the dinner table :junaid

Only person who is delusion here is you.

Pretty sure if England draw here you'll blame Dar instead of praising the mettle of England.

Have to question :msd's tactics here. No bat pad for Ojha your best bowler. Dhoni gets too defensive when the going gets tough.

We're in the black!

Captain Cook and Tailgunner Prior have nursed their crippled Lancaster over the Channel, but are still well within range of Jerry fighters....

England have played fantastically today overall (individuals aside), but are still in deep trouble.

They need another phenomenal performance tomorrow to prevent a routine Indian victory. Personally I see an early wicket tomorrow and the match over just after lunch.

Cook is damn fit! doesn't look tired even after batting the whole day...

I like the look of this yadav dude, he is the only Indian bowler who would break into the Pakistan top 200 of all time

Jokes aside, :aleemdar truly has been awful.

Well, at least we got game on our hands otherwise it might have been over by now. Couple of absolute plumb LBW and Cook was one of them.

Who knows England can even draw this game. But Well played England and I don't see any deterioration in pitch even on day 4 but I was hearing it's not being a sporting pitch on day 2 due to horrible batting from England. Cook is playing fantastic inning.

Was Prior who was out, not Cook.

I thought Cook was absolute plumb yesterday? Anyway, fantastic inning by Cook. Now it will be interesting if England can set a target of 200 and India have to chase in 40 overs.

Can finally breathe. Cook and Prior are fighters. And need to repeat tomorrow

No the complaints were due to the speed of the deterioration of the pitch over the first two days. Flat for the first session and a half, turning by tea, turning absolutely square and odd one or two keeping low by the close of Day 2.

In fairness that was as bad as it got. There hasn't been any further deterioration and the bounce has remained pretty true. You will never hear me complain about a pitch just because it offers turn.

Get a lead of around 10 today which means scoring 27/0 in the last 13 overs and get ready for a tuk tuk crusade tomorrow.

If Cook can bat out tomorrow as well, England will definitely draw this match.

100% what I predicted :allama

Indians turn to whine now lol

Still a long way to go before England can feel save, but good effort.

Ojha had a plumb LBW shout against Cook turned down yesterday. Prior had one today.

I did not watch Prior one today.

I think India should be ready to take 15 wickets in each innings as long as Dar continue with this form :P That evens the contest. He is usually very good.

All 3 results possible now. Indian victory still the most likely, but England have given themselves a genuine chance of saving the game.

England's best chance of victory would be to be bowled out somewhere between lunch and tea.

Bres, Broad and Swann all will apply themselves here tomorrow. May be score some runs too. A lead of around 160 would be enough to mug the Indians who would be quite dispirited by then :jf

Brilliant rearguard action so far. Hopefully these two can carry on, but they have already done a class job so far. Would be an amazing comeback if Eng win this. Love Cook & Prior!

It turned on day 2 but I think it was mainly the panic in England camp that made it look worse. If they would have played like 2nd innings then it was an easy draw. Still a possibility but have to play well on 5th day.

draw favourite now.if Eng get 150-160 lead with one session, things will get interesting.India need a wicket to win

Proudest moment as an English fan to see Cook walking calmly back to the dressing room after doing a wonderful wonderful job.

Only if anyone of Trott, Kp, Bell had hung in there for a fighting fifty of some 150 balls, we would've been in a position to save the match.

Anyway its good to see England taking the game into the fifth day, we showed that we learnt something from our previous series in UAE and SL.

Win or loose, just give us the impression that you trying hard and giving your best that's more than enough for fans like me.

What a fightback , it should be an interresting 5th day if Cook can hang on.

To all the Indian fans whining about decisions, Patel has had two very controversial decisions against him and India also had a few decisions go in their favor in the first innings.

And ofcourse we wouldn't have this problem if the BCCI allowed DRS to be used.

:))) at all this talk of England drawing or even winning.

Baby steps.

Let's see Prior get to 100 first, then Cook to 200, and if those things happen, then we'll see.

Yeah, Prior has been bit of a tragic hero recently. He seems to get the team out of real mess with light at the end of the tunnel only to have brain fart at the end. Hopefully, our strong tail should be of some use tomorrow.

Well pitch is very good to bat even now. Unless it really breaks tomorrow morning, draw is not so far fetched. I was not talking about win for England being a great possibility but if India goes for chasing 200 runs in 45-50 overs, it is a possibility. It will be great to have that kind of set up where all results are possible in last 30 overs.

sehwag has an awful record in 4th innings if england do set a reasonable target like 200 in 40 overs, he will probably fail.

India will not go after chasing 200 in 40 odd overs. Viru may give it a try but others will shut the doors as soon as he departs.

Amazing innings from Cook considering how bad KP and the rest, apart from Prior, have played.

Being an opener, and upon that from a non-subcontinent country it's amazing to see how well he plays spin. Turning out to be a complete batsman!

And Prior has supported him well, one of the most improved batsmen in world cricket.

Even if England lose they can take a lot of positives from this match. They have managed to take the match to the fifth day and they have already crossed 300, a score India struggled to cross when they toured England.

Cook has a century in each of his his first three tests as skipper, all on the Subcontinent.

My worst fears have come true, Cook already made a mammoth score and still at the crease to score even more. Well played to Prior too.

Can't fault our bowlers though, they tried everything from their resources but Pitch seems to have flattened out pretty much.

Still feel we are just one wicket away from making inroads into the tail of England but who will get that breakthrough is a big question mark. Hopefully, tomorrow some of those close LBW shouts comes in our favor rather than English :)

Overall, a tight test match (not a one sided as it looked till the fall of England's 5th wicket this afternoon)
