What's new

India vs England | 3rd ODI | Ranchi | 18/1/13

I wonder if India will play Pujara for the 5th game if they win the series

Away from home our ODI innings typically subside after the departure of KP. No change here.

And the Test series too. Oops that slipped out.

You've beaten us in the last test series, both home and away. Clearly the superior test unit, you. Wasn't what I was talking about.

Your ODI side, especially when they tour abroad in Australia, India, etc. is always rubbish.

I know. But this stuff is a consolation really, a sideshow at best. The Test series is always the important meet.

Pujara can only come in as opener. I'd drop Gambhir - too scratchy for my liking.

Amazing to see how effective the Indian part timers are against England

Yes, but losing 1-6 vs Ind (2006), 0-5 vs Ind (2008), 1-6 vs Aus (2009), 1-6 vs Aus (2011), 0-5 vs Ind (2011) and maybe a 1-4 here is not desirable, surely.

How about giving a rest to Kohli and using Pujara at 3? See Pujara more of a 3-4 than an opener tbh

Bring back the pace, need to bowl them out.

Could be an option, but the Indian management see Kohli as a permanent fixture in all three line-ups.

Tredwell has to bat well her , he looks he can bat , just needs to look for singles and twos and bat out 50 overs.

Now Raina's bowling.

When will the Dhonut learn that it's serious pace and yorkers that'll bowl tails out?

I bet if you remove good old Ravindra's stats against the Poms, they'll plummet.

He's no different to a Moises Henriques or a Ravi Bopara.

Dhoni using part times effectively , he knows Poms have lost too many wickets to take toll of part timers.

Wow, England really do play awful Cricket when they slump.

Last I checked the score it was 56-1 :))

ordinary but doing a job .
Can't deny that but whats the point of playing a guy who can only perform in certain conditions against certain teams surely it would be better to develop an actual world class all rounder where conditions are irrelevant.

very few all rounders these days who can play in all conditions. There is nothing wrong in playing players who suit certain conditions.

In the last 4 innings india have bowled the opposition out for less than 160 .3 times.the scores are
157,316/4,158,155
Worst bowling attack in cricket?

Dhoni might not need to bat at all, unless he explicitly pushes himself up the order to #3, can see that happening tbh.

Haha fair play to Ishant, 'nothing in it for the England bowlers, this is a flat pitch and we'll win this easily'.

Got to admire the bluntness and confidence, better than the usual diplomatic response from Joe Cricketer.

But it's only been the Pakistani and English batting line-ups. Jamshed was the only guy who fired for the former, and the latter just don't know how to play an ODI game here at all.

Sounds like Glenn McGrath.

cant believe the fact that sir jaddu is tormenting the poms again and again :)) :))

In a slightly awkward situation here...I ate a sizeable breakfast this morning with the plan that I would have worked through it enough to it to go to the gym in an hour from now, during the scheduled interval...but England batted so badly that I'm still sat here digesting my breakfast

But i dont see aus,wi,nz doing to well either.sl and sa would be much better though

Finally a cricketer who calls how it is rather than giving a useless pc answer

England losing their top batsman to pacers and then leaving middle order who isn't comfy against spin to do donkey's work.
Root should open with Bell and Cook should come 2 down to counter spinners.

I wonder how ICC will react to the recent low scoring odis, hopefully they don't scrap the rules because its actually encouraging batsmen to improve their techniques rather than bullying the bowlers with favorable rules the best batsmen will stand out now.

It's just appaling the number of times jadeja bowls out batsmen.i think in the test against england also he hit the stumps a couple of times.

A big LOL at the curator "This is a 350-par pitch". The team batting first just fell 200 short.

Probably will demand captains to take to the field with only nine men, knowing them. Anything to stretch the viewing time on the telly.

Finn and Tredwell will be appalled with the batsmen, hopefully we can get a few wickets to save a little face

It's funny to see the mentality of different countries the Aussies thought they had a chance in defending 70 odd (commentators) whereas the English have already given up.

Very ordinary performance by England and at the same time good stuff from the Indian bowlers, ENG are back to their own ways in subcontinent ODI's after the first game and it'll take a really special performace to come back from here, India have a great chance now of winning their first series of the season at Mohali.

I'm simply assuming this game is won by India, 156 should be a cake walk.

One man's confidence is another man's delusion...

That's the difference between Australia and England in a nutshell.

Ha the Cricinfo headline just made me giggle: 'Dismal England routed for 155'. So lacking in objectivity...and so true

Come on Rahane. Stay not out right through to the end. You need to start batting big from now on.

If you get bowled out by that "attack" for 155 you deserve headlines like that

Exactly! Sadly the tabloid English media don't care enough about cricket to use their best headlines on us anymore. No such problem at Cricinfo

Ashes period is really taking a dent on both Aus and England ideally you should be playing you best XI in every game not having the bench strength doesn't help either, how you English persist with players like Jade and Morgan is beyond me..

Morgan is an ODI gun.

It's Kiewetter they have to dispose.

Why England couldnt bat like this in the tests?

AFAI am concerned the only difference why England won the test series was because Cook scored big.Take him out and England wouldnt have done much.Dropping his catches and poor umpiring didnt help either.

lololol if India win today and SA lose today, India move to number 1...

There's still an argument for Morgan's selection. Jade and Mattresswetter need to go though.

Can't say we don't deserve it in the ODI format.

Not that it means much, we're test #5 which is a disgrace.

LOL typical bitter remarks. You lost fair and square.

This.

Morgan is too inconsistent, when he fails he fails big time if I had a nickel for everytime he got out first or second ball I'd have enough money to buy an IPL team.

This ODI grading system really needs to be reformed. Australia England SA and India have all been the 'number 1 team' recently.

Gavaskar waving the flag for a Prior return.

Yeah Anderson, Swann, Prior and Panesar were rubbish, the fielding from the English was pathetic too...

England were better in all departments why can't you Indians just accept defeat gracefully?

Relax, I was just pulling James' leg - he gets wound up far too easily.

England won 2-1. End of.
