Unbelievable... watching Malik here just shows the massive difference in terms of class between one day internationals and test matches.... Malik bats so comfortable in ODI's, and here he's struggling to get bat on ball.

I see BW has chnaged his mind now to suit himself.

i remember BW been asked about malik batting 3 in tests when he 1st took over and he was very adamant at time asim kamal wud bat 3 and malik 6 and both wud be given a consistant run in the side in thos postions.

then kamal failed and BW said - asim will have 2 compete with malik/yoyo for a middle order spot...

The indication from BW was malik was a lower middle orde batsmen

however, now maliks seen as an opener? yet he wasnt considered gud enuf for the 1 down spot before in TESTS(which is almost like opening anyway in teh pakistan team)?

whats changed.....?

A questions have to be asked here....!

1) Is this another short term fix? is malik opening any better than afridi in test etc?

in asian conditions it will be fine but what about opening in england or new zealand....?

to me it seems maliks just been picked as bob and inzi want him in the side and as he cant bat 6 (asim kamal) so now he will open...

all off a sudden coz malik bats 3 in odis its ok for him 2 open in tests yet earlier BW threw the idea out....

seems an accomdation move...

malik is a emerging batsmen and HAS LOTS OF TALENT.

does he have the technic and tempremant thou TO OPEN?

its alot easier to bat down order against a softer ball and spinners and seamers who are maybe tired or ones who are using an older ball... its a diff kettle of fish facing the new ball.

even in VB series v AUS... BW/inzi kept malik down the order in games v aus so that he wasnt exposed to likes of mcgrath and co early on bouncy wkts....

however, now he may open?

very bizare.....

time and time agen hes been exposed in tough bowling condtions and is yet to prove himself in ODIs FULLY outside of asia....

looks like another SHORT TERM fix...!
