I have heard that the load shedding has actually increased in the last few weeks so when Nawaz Sharif takes oath, it goes down from 20 hours to 16 hours and people will think they are in heaven already :-)

Nawaz Sharif ki wah wah and clapping all around, drama continues.....

Lol just heard Sheikh Rasheed saying exactly the same thing as well, like him or hate him but his interviews are more interesting than majority of politicians in Pakistan. I always thought he would change but he has had a consistent stance in the last 5 years and looks like he is determined to work with Imran.

Nalayk league's tune has changed since May 11

:facepalm:

Interesting how suddenly PML-N leadership have discovered the nuances of foreign policy and diplomacy. After berating PPP for the last five years they have started singing to the same old tune. Funny how quickly things change when one gets into higher office.

Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre
Imran Khan Back On His Feet (May 21, 2013)

This morning, Mr. Imran Khan was fitted with a specially designed spinal support, or brace. Following this, he stood upright and unsupported for the first time since his injury two weeks ago. He had a series of X-rays of his spine which confirmed continued healing and excellent alignment of his back bones. His X-rays were reviewed by a team of radiologists and surgeons who were very pleased with the results. Shortly thereafter, Imran walked unaided for over 300 metres. He remained pain-free throughout this time. We anticipate that Imran will Inshallah, be discharged from hospital tomorrow afternoon. He will continue to receive regular physiotherapy and is likely to need to wear the spinal support for some weeks to come. Imran will gradually increase physical activity over the next few weeks with a return to his full functional capacity expected in approximately six to eight weeks.

As in the past, Mr. Imran Khan will be paying the entire cost of his hospitalization at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre. He has been touched by the numerous offers to pay for his care made by friends and well-wishers and has asked that anyone wishing to do so make a contribution to the care of the poor cancer patients at Shaukat Khanum instead.

Tiger is up. Excellent News

Berating?

Unless I have been sleeping five years when did they berate PPP? All my vivid memory tells me is how they stood with PPP throughout on every single big issue.

:/

It tells it all ......lovely work from the cameraman :)

Boht showbaazi ho gayi , now its time to deliver.....!

thora peechay hat jao, yeh mass gathering bohat bari hai, might spill over through your screens...

One of many where the masses truely turned up to show their support for AH and anger at IK

The New York Police who are obviously IK fans, and or influenced by Pro taliban told them to all shut up and go home

I read somewhere that the turnout in the non-pashtun areas of Balochistan was around 3%. If that is correct than its a travesty. Basically the part of Pakistan which truly deserves our attention and needs public representation more than anyone, just went through an election without any participation or change. I am not sure if it was security, lack of good options or just a general sense of resentment towards politics and political forces that made the turnout so low but whatever it was, its sure is a dark spot on the face of our democracy.

Nawaz Sharif's solution for Pakistan's energy crisis - Who is dumb and who is dumber?

Nawaz Sharif and his team have already started to meet the expectations that I set for them after they won the elections 2013. He and his team members have made the following key points regarding the energy crisis:

Nawaz Sharif has directed his to-be finance minister Ishaq Dar to arrange PKR 500 billion by obtaining a loan from anywhere to give temporary energy relief
Nawaz Sharif has also indicted that his government will look to buy 1,000 MW energy from India
Sartaj Aziz too indicated that his government will buy energy from other countries to provide temporary energy relief
Sartaj Aziz has also suggested that Pakistan will be able to reap the benefits of Shale Gas in the form of reduced energy costs
Above all, Nawaz Sharif said that claims made by Shahbaz Sharif to end the energy crisis in a specific time frame were only emotional talks - He said that he couldn't give any time frame to end the energy crisis

Let's analyse these points:

PKR 500 billion loan
3rd time PM-elect doesn't know that more loan will mean more burden to the economy and it'll be common people who will pay this off in the form of ever higher inflation. Higher inflation means that the energy prices will increase too. Higher energy prices will also contribute to the circular debt. Circular debt is one of the key factors behind the energy crisis. What will happen by going round and round? We will still have the same energy crisis or even worse even after taking this fresh loan. Well done Mian Sahab, tussi great ooo.

1,000 MW energy from India / buying energy from other countries

Are these countries going to give free energy to Pakistan as an election victory gift to Nawaz Sharif? If not, why not use the existing spare energy generation capacity within Pakistan? How this is different from the short term Power Rental projects started by Raja Rental? Well done Mian Sahab, tussi great ooo.

Shale Gas

Shale gas is doing well in the US but it is still a (comparatively) new concept in other parts of the world including Europe. Gas prices in Europe are only going one way - UP, UP and UP. Yet, Sartaz Aziz is pinning his hopes on the Shale gas to help the energy crisis situation in Pakistan in the next 1 - 3 years - How ambitious, or should I say how idiotic? Well done Mian Sahab, tusi great ooo, thadi team bhi great aey.

No time frame

Good tactics, ins't it? Younger brother kept selling dreams during the election campaigns and after winning the elections the elder brother tells his fellow countrymen to ignore what the younger brother said as he was acting crazy during the elections speeches. Still, no time frame to address the energy situation!!! Why??? We heard that a very competent Noon league think thank had already put together all the policies in place. They said that as soon as they assume power they would implement those great policies and everything will be hunky dory within the first 2 -3 years.

Effectively he said that his younger brother was crazy therefore just ignore him - and keep following the carrot you donkeys.

Well done Mian Sahab, tusi great ooo, thadi team bhi great aey.

Concluding remarks

I hope and pray that Nawaz Sharif will be fully exposed within a very short time (thus meeting my expectations) and will be kicked-out by the enraged public of Pakistan, the majority of which did vote him in, Aameen!

Request for help from readers

I can't decide who is dumb and who is dumber between Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan nation who voted him in. Please share your thoughts.

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has sought the help of an elderly pro-Taliban cleric to initiate peace talks with the militants, party officials said Tuesday.
The political party approached Sami Ul-Haq, nicknamed the “Father of the Taliban”, after emerging from elections as the largest party in the troubled northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

K-P is on the frontline of a nearly seven-year domestic Taliban insurgency and suffers near-daily bomb and shooting attacks blamed on militants.
Party chairman Imran Khan has called for an end to military operations and peace talks with the Taliban, making his party’s victory in the northwest a significant development.
Imran has vowed to put together a provincial coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and turn it into a “role model” for the rest of the country.
“We will talk to all stakeholders for establishment of peace in our province, meeting with Maulana Samiul Haq was a part of that,” Shaukat Yousafzai, a party leader who won a seat for the party in the provincial assembly told AFP.

Samiul Haq is chief of his own faction of the religious Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) party and runs a madrassa that educated several Taliban leaders.
Yousafzai said a PTI delegation led by Pervez Khattak, the incoming provincial chief minister, met Samiul Haq late Monday.
Hamidul Haq, the cleric’s son and a former MP, confirmed to AFP that PTI leaders came to seek support.
“They asked Samiul Haq to play his role in establishment of peace in the province,” Haq said. “Samiul Haq told the delegation that he will play his role in establishment of peace and initiation of peace talks.”

Pakistan’s incoming prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday said he was open to talks with the Taliban, saying bringing peace was one of his top priorities.
Pakistan’s umbrella Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) movement in February signalled its willingness to enter peace talks with the government but also stepped up attacks against Sharif’s rival Pakistan People’s Party and its main allies, drastically curtailing their ability to campaign during the election.

Previous Pakistani governments, as well as the military, have forged ad hoc peace deals with insurgent factions in various parts of the northwestern tribal belt, which have often broken down quickly.
The Taliban, who denounce democracy as un-Islamic, killed more than 150 people during the election campaign, including 24 on polling day itself.

Taliban spokesperson Ehsanullah Ehsan had said the insurgents would “wait until political parties form their government” but told AFP before the polls that anyone who “comes into conflict with Islam” would be targeted.
Suicide, bomb and gun attacks blamed on Taliban and al Qaeda-affiliates have killed nearly 6,000 people since July 2007, according to an AFP tally.

Good read...

Wonder if Mr.Salman Ahmad will now write an open letter to IK or soon to be CM Pervez Khattak. After all, Taliban have not only threatened but killed several singers, musicians and banned all sorts of musical expression in KPK.

Yeh thread abhi tak chal rahi hai, Election Khatam ho gaye hain... time to move on. Time for Imran Khan and PTI to deliver in KPK.

"The PML-N is on top with its candidates for the National Assembly securing 14.86 million votes as against 6.78m in 2008. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) which had boycotted the 2008 elections has succeeded in making inroads into the strongholds of other parties across the country. It has become the second largest party with 7.67m votes."

http://dawn.com/2013/05/22/pml-n-bagged-119pc-more-votes-than-in-2008/

This is BS, so PTI got half the votes even with epic rigging but still not enough seats compared to N. I dont like this system at all, the votes seem wasted if candidate doesnt win.

Judgment has come in favour of Saad Rafique. He won NA 125

Dharna gaya bekar..... ab kya kare ga Sarkar ?

^ Were you expecting anything different?

May 24 ko dharna ho ga.

Also, Hamid Mir has tweeted that he has just received some big evidence of rigging that he will show to the public. And after seeing that, ECP members should resign

I thought Hamid Mir is pro PML-N

But anyways lets see what he brings and I really hope the evidence are against PML-N

Or may be against MQM?

Haha, welcome to the British electoral system !

Only under the First Past the Post system can a minority of the votes be turned into a majority of the seats.

Over here in 2005, Labour won 35% of the vote, yet got a thumping 66 seat majority and 55% of the seats and over half of the votes were wasted.

This is hardly democratic.

However full proportional representation results in perpetual coalitions and horse trading.

Under FPTP:

Person A can get 30,000 votes.
Person B - 25,000 votes.
Person C - 20,000 votes.

Yet person A wins, DESPITE 45,000 people voting against him !

logic fail

election is based on "vote-for" and not on "vote-against"

logic fail

election is based on "vote-for" and not on "vote-against"

Purpose of an election is to bring us democracy. the Majority chooses their leader.

When 45000 don't vote for you and only 30000 do then you can't claim to represent the majority.

Ideally, all candidates from a constituency should contest. After the first count, re-polling should take place but with only the top two candidates from the first count contesting.

Round 1

A = 40,000 votes (Winner)
B = 35,000 votes ( Runner-up)
C = 15,000 votes
D = 10,000 votes

Round 2

A = 45,000 votes
B = 55,000 votes ( Winner)

In lahore PTI got 600k votes compared to N 1.1million. So how about dividing Lahore seats according to votes? Instead of PTI with just 1 seat compared to N 12.

not that i have to go in deep details... nawaz ji wants to give gawadar port from china to US and same with the gas line from iran... us doesnt like that aswell and he said that in his speech from a couple days back... and on the other hand, zardari is busy trolling nawaz ji by strengthning the ties between PAk-China hence trying to make it further difficult for nawaz ji to break away from China on gawadar and other projects.... :asadrauf

PTI to build 7 model cities in KPK: Asad Qaisar

Asad Qaisar, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Provincial President, said on Tuesday that the PTI government would build seven model cities at divisional level in the province.

Talking to TheNation, he said that model cities would be built in seven divisions, including Peshawar, Bannu, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Malakand and Hazara of the KPK.
He said that they wanted to provide adequate education and health facilities in these model cities. "We have planned to provide facilities of international standard in these cities," he added.–Staff Reporter

I also have reservations on giving Gwadar port to China. Pakistan should have control on Gwadar port rather than any other country.

Agreed, but of late or in the distant past name any key developmental or structural project that Pak kept under its own belt and didn't assign to another country... whay you are asking for here is what PTI is promising...

I hope they are talking about converting these existing towns into model towns,..

Otherwise this is just like Danish Schools system or Laptop scheme

logic fail

election is based on "vote-for" and not on "vote-against"

Not at all, tactical voting is rife. People do often vote to keep a party out, especially if it is a safe seat.

Plus it is a weak mandate, the MP should have more than 50% of the vote. At least two-thirds of UK MPs are minority MPs because of this perverse FPTP system.

Yes i agree, model towns should be existing ones rather than new. Problem with Danish schools kind of projects was that they were building new ones when money should have been spent on existing schools first.
I doubt they have enough money to build model towns anyway.

Round 1

A = 40,000 votes (Winner)
B = 35,000 votes ( Runner-up)
C = 15,000 votes
D = 10,000 votes

Round 2

A = 45,000 votes
B = 55,000 votes ( Winner)

Those people who voted for C and D will most likely not vote again in Round 2 because they were only supporting C or D. This is the most common scenario as people usually vote for only one party (PTI supporters, PPP or even Noon supporters). Also it is wasteful to ask the same 40,000 and 35,000 people to vote again in Round 2 to the same person (and removing their names for voters list would still be difficult and expensive).

The best way to overcome this problem is to define small constituencies i.e. Constituencies with at max 50,000 population so that the runner ups have more chances of winning (because there are greater number of constituencies). To understand this consider the US system where even 1 vote mean someone sitting as opposition.

To conclude, Democracy is good if combined with local body system and small constituencies so that the individuals elected are known personally by the voters and the vote is not based on blind party worship (esp. PTI and PPP)

It is strange that PTI's requests for recounting are being rejected. Starting to have my doubts about the CJ too now

alright, so in NA 19, PMLN filed a case of rigging and for recounting, (where a PTI member had won the NA seat), the courts ok'd the recounts, the recounts were done and PTI still won the seat...

now wat is stopping or is the problem of the court to okay PTI's request to recount just 4 constituencies....

Jamshed Dasti already ditched PMLN and (hold your horses)... is going to JUIF...

Opposition party can have PM? :/

There is usually a vote to confirm the Prime Minister I think in the NA. So Hashmi will probably be PTI's candidate although with PML-N's majority, it will of course be the self-proclaimed Mr 'Amir-ul-Momineen' himself who will win the confirmation vote.

Of course, the Amil-ur-Momineen will be there to lead us!
