Well then Dharna should continue..!! ECP knows they have messed up and so far all which have been recounted have been over turned.....

These are proper lotas have nothing to do... feel sorry for such people have no life then jumping from 1 ship to another one....

LHC also rejected it.

Nope EC approved the recount in NA 57 but PMLN candidate took stay order and LH reversed the decision to recount.

NA 122 EC rejected recount.

PTI should give up, even if EC agrees to recount, courts overrule it and if they don't say anything supreme court may come into play. No hope here for PTI, just pretend nothing happened.

JUI-F set to join coalition after PML-N invitation

ISLAMABAD: After failing to form a government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl's (JUI-F) avenues for entering a coalition government in the centre and Balochistan assembly, opened up after a formal invitation from Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday, DawnNews reported.

Shahbaz held a meeting with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman during which the issues related to formation of a government were discussed whereas the PML-N also extended a formal invitation to the JUI-F to form a coalition government in the National Assembly and Balochistan's provincial assembly.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, Shahbaz said that the challenges faced by the country needed to be addressed jointly.

He further said that the PML-F was their ally in Sindh whereas party chief Nawaz Sharif wanted to take all political parties on-board to tackle the issues of terrorism, corruption and the energy crises in Pakistan.

JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl said that a meeting of the party's central Majlis-e-Amla was called for today during which the decision to join a coalition government would be taken after consultation.

http://beta.dawn.com/news/1011131/major-issues-the-govt-led-by-nawaz-will-face

Major issues the govt led by Nawaz will face

ISLAMABAD, May 12: The winner of historic elections, Nawaz Sharif, faces a host of problems, including faltering economic growth, worsening energy shortages and continued attacks by militants.

FALTERING ECONOMY: The economy has grown at less than 4 per cent a year under the most recent government led by the PPP.

That is much lower than the rates during the previous administration, which at times hovered near 7pc. Under the most recent government, inflation spiked, reaching an annualised rate of around 25pc in some months.

However, the inflation rate has fallen and averaged around 11pc last year.

ENERGY SHORTAGES: Electricity shortages nearly doubled under the PPP compared with the previous administration.

Some places in the country suffer blackouts for up to 18 hours a day during summer months.

The country also has experienced increased shortages of natural gas, which were felt acutely during the winter because many people rely on natural gas to heat their homes as well as cook.

Spending on energy subsidies and failing public enterprises has helped sap the government’s funds, which are much lower than they should be because of ineffective tax collection.

The combination of these factors means the government will likely have to seek yet another unpopular bailout from the International Monetary Fund.

TALIBAN ATTACKS: The military has launched several operations against the Pakistani Taliban in the northwest tribal region along the Afghan border during the past five years.

Analysts say the operations and US drone attacks against militants in the tribal region have helped produce a significant decline in overall levels of violence in 2011 and 2012.

But the Taliban have remained a potent threat, including during the election campaign.

The group carried out near-daily attacks against election candidates and offices that killed more than 130 people.

The militants mostly targeted liberal secular parties that supported operations against the Taliban. Sectarian violence by radical militants against minority Shias also has significantly worsened in recent months.

“(Sharif) needs to solve the issue of terrorism and other problems crippling the economy. If he delivers quickly, fair enough, if not then he will face crisis and criticism,” pundit Hasan Askari said.

The election failed to realise the hopes of many that the hold of patronage-based parties would end after years of misrule and corruption.

Mr Sharif has said the army, which has ruled the country for more than half of its turbulent 66-year history, should stay out of politics.

But he will have to work with generals, who set foreign and security policy and will manage the country’s thorny relationship with the United States as Nato troops withdraw from Afghanistan in 2014.

Mr Sharif also believes Pakistan should reconsider its support for the US war on militancy.

Mr Sharif, who advocates free-market economics, is likely to pursue privatisation and deregulation to revive flagging growth.

The PML-N leader has said he could do business with the IMF, meaning he may be open to reforms like an easing of subsidies and a widening of the country’s tiny tax base to secure billions of dollars from the global lender.

RELATIONS WITH ARMY: Mr Sharif’s last term as prime minister came to an abrupt and ignominious end in 1999 when he was deposed in a coup led by Gen Pervez Musharraf.

He was sentenced to life in prison by a military court before being allowed to go into exile in Saudi Arabia.

Political analyst A.H. Nayer said talk of a potential clash between Mr Sharif and the military was overblown. “I think the army will have to back the government, they have no choice,” he said.

“I think Sharif’s government will come out with an impression that it is not against the army as an organisation — he was against only one general who staged a coup.”

The 63-year-old’s unprecedented third term as prime minister results from widespread unhappiness with the PPP government, but also from the performance of the PML-N in Punjab.

During two tenures in the 1990s the PML-N built the country’s only motorway. During its rule of Punjab over the past five years it created new roads and bridges for Lahore and a city metro-bus system — the first properurban public transport system in the country. It has also targeted young voters with scholarships and free laptops.

Mr Sharif went into the election promising to transform the economy, end corruption in state-owned enterprises, build a motorway from Lahore to Karachi and launch a bullet train. — Agencies

They were independents. Had to join the ruling party

The day after May 11

Two days after the general elections in Pakistan, I sat watching a debate between senior leaders of the PTI, the MQM and the PML-N regarding rigging in elections. The most amazing part of the conversation was the suggestion by the PTI leader that perhaps, intelligence agency wallahs were stuffing ballot boxes at a polling station from where a PML-N candidate won. The same leader also talked about an opinion piece suggesting that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was bribed to ensure a certain win. The other day, I heard a ‘so-called’ journalist talking in a television programme, of foreign countries like Turkey being involved in ensuring certain election results in

Pakistan. Notwithstanding some genuine complaints of rigging, the conversation and suggestion reflected a desire to delegitimise the larger election process, which did not bring about results that a certain segment of the population desired. While it is necessary to sort out the urgent issues regarding glaring discrepancies in results and measures to strengthen the ECP, it is also necessary for the post-May 11 Pakistan to find closure. Instead of constantly delegitimising the process, it is necessary to accept the fact that a large part of Pakistan that voted differently from how certain people thought they would, also represents the country. Its opinion ought to be respected as well.

There is a great risk of a segment of the population that was enthralled by the idea of Naya Pakistan getting depoliticised out of frustration. Like others, I have also heard conversations in which the Naya Pakistan wallahs were going around cursing people’s decision, calling them stupid and even suggesting that participating in elections was an effort not worth their while. Some even went to the extent of calling people paindu (rural) and illiterate. Besides a lot of institution-building and strengthening that is required, Imran Khan must nurse the wounds of his supporters at the earliest and draw their attention towards the fact that it is a great achievement that the PTI has risen from being a party of one in parliament to over 30 members. Moreover, unfavourable results do not mean that we stop emotionally and physically investing in this country. People’s choices must be respected. This nursing of the wounds is part of the larger process of making efforts to bind the country together.

The other interesting trend pertains to the image of regionalisation of politics. To an outside observer, Pakistan does not feel tied together. The PML-N has emerged as a big force in Punjab, the PTI in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the PPP relegated to rural Sindh, the MQM in urban Sindh and Baloch and Pashtun nationalists in Balochistan. A lot of people are hugely angry on the PPP’s lacklustre performance of the past five years. So, one could argue that it got what it deserved. Notwithstanding the errors made by its leadership and erosion of ideology from the party, the fact remains that we are observing the breakdown of what was once the only genuine national party. The federation needs to be connected, which it is not at the moment. The PPP’s weakening as a party within Sindh itself will have repercussions for sociopolitical development in the region and its connection with the federation. The crippling of the party, for which the leadership is to blame as well, has and will create spaces which will be dominated by pro-establishment parties or the nationalists. In both cases, it does not bode well for the province or the federation. It is necessary to appease the disgruntled youth in Sindh who may be tempted to fight against the state, especially in reaction to the use of force by it. The number of missing people and dead bodies is increasing in the province.

The above narrative means that party or parties have to move rapidly to shun their character of being regional entities and reach out to other regions. In the past five years, the PML-N leadership has shied from visiting other provinces. At least, this is a complaint one heard from urban and rural Sindh. The PML-N winning seats in the Balochistan Assembly is a good sign. It now needs to do more to expand in other parts. Shedding the image of a Punjab-based leadership and party is necessary. The development agenda also has to extend beyond a single province.

As part of the effort to strengthen the federation, the ruling party at the centre will also have to look more carefully to the needs of south Punjab, which seems to have given a huge mandate to the party. As a region known for both poverty and popularity of the PPP, some were surprised to see the PML-N sweep elections there. This happened due to a combination of factors, such as the party aligning with emerging power centres in the region, especially those representing new capital. In some cases, it also partnered with electables from amongst the Seraiki-speakers, who were already disgruntled due to the PPP not properly marketing the idea of a new province of south Punjab and Bahawalpur. An ordinary voter was left with pragmatism to support a party that might win and deliver. But the more important thing is that the people have honoured the PML-N by putting their confidence in it. The best way of consolidating such gains is to not ignore the need for a new province and offering a plan for better distribution of resources even within Punjab. The PML-N has done well in improving Lahore but now it also needs to distribute development to other parts of the country and the province itself.

While the list of things that the new government ought to do is endless, the need for strengthening the federation should be one of the primary goals. Accepting the legitimacy of the electioneering process and legitimising political and development agendas through meeting people’s needs will go a long way.

they joined PTI last year but left pti so they could play their cards like they have done now.

I even know Kashif abbasi congratulated Leghari in a interview for joining PTI and he said thank you and he thought Imran Khan was the perfect leader.

I am not saying that they haven't done anything I am just suggesting that they became independents when the elections approached

Imran Khan didn't give them the ticket from DG khan. They weren't to blame, come on.

In Imrans defense, he probably wanted newer faces.

Confirmed - JUI-F have joined the government at the centre.

http://www.thenews.com.pk/article-101468-JUI-F-to-join-federal-government-

ISLAMABAD: The JUI-F has announced its decision to join the federal government.

The decision was taken during the meeting of the party’s central working committee chaired by Maulana Fazlur Rehman. The PML-N had offered the JUI-F to join the federal government during an earlier meeting between Shahbaz Sharif and Rehman.

The central working committee during its meeting evaluated the offer of the PML-N. The meeting was also attended by Akram Durrani, Maulana Ghafoor Haideri , Gul Naseeb, Senator Talha Mehmood and other leaders of the JUI-F.

What lotas JUI-F are, a PML-N-JUI-F coalition seems like a fundamentalist's dream ticket. Anyway, about 10/11 constituencies are going to undergo re-polling, or are being postponed, so no results there yet.

Faizan Lakhani @faizanlakhani

Some sources sharing unofficial vote count at 137 polling stations of NA250 as Khushbakht Shuja’at 54,500 & @ArifAlvi 54,100.

Not sure if above is true but shows why MQM wants to boycott elections since re election is mostly in posh areas.

Balochistan government formed

http://dawn.com/2013/05/17/three-political-parties-to-form-coalition-govt-in-balochistan/

QUETTA: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), National Party and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) have decided to form a coalition government in the province.

Akram Shah Khan, the Central Secretary General, PkMAP while addressing a joint press conference said that the slot of chief minister would be given to the PML-N.

“It has been decided in principle to form an exemplary coalition government,” Khan said.

He said all out efforts would be made by coalition partners to address the grievances of the Baloch masses.

Responding to a question, the newly nominated parliamentary leader of PML-N, Nawab Sanaullah Zehri said that he would make all possible efforts to take all political forces on board for durable peace in the violence-stricken province.

“Peace is my first priority,” Zehri said.

Chief of National Party, Dr Malik Baloch said that new coalition partners are determined to ensure good governance in the province.

“Despite the odds, we will deliver,” Baloch added.

“We believe in dialogue not use of force,” he responded to a question regarding initiating possible talks with Baloch resistance fighters in Balochistan.

Baloch said that they want peace and for this purpose meaningful dialogue would be started with all political forces.

Bizarre numbers: Elections in Balochistan

Wow, have a look at this. Scarce turnout in Balochistan for the elections.

http://dawn.com/2013/05/18/bizarre-numbers-elections-in-balochistan/

IN a densely populated country where citizens are counted in tens of millions, the figures coming out of the polls in Balochistan are bizarre. The most remarkable is PB-41, Awaran, where voter turnout was a mere 1.18 per cent and the candidate that won had to take just 544 votes, with the runner-up coming in at 95. Only 672 of the 57,666 people registered to vote in the constituency actually did so. Similarly, in PB-50, Kech, the seat was won with just 1,385 votes, with 1,331 going to the politician who came in second. The other seven candidates collectively polled the ludicrous figure of 994 votes. Even where the figures are higher, the turnout in Balochistan is remarkably below the national average. This is true even if the demographics and the security situation are factored in. The turnout in PB-46, Kharan, for example, was relatively high but still, of the 45,176 registered voters, only 14,611 cast votes and the seat was won with just 3,418 votes.

It had been expected that the turnout in Balochistan would be low but these figures are shocking. Polling was disrupted or could not take place at all at a number of polling stations because of lack of staff and/or balloting material.

Also, militants had announced that they would impede the election process; the moderate nationalist parties that contested did so in face of the militants’ ire. What the ECP must do now is to investigate the numbers and ascertain how many polling stations were dysfunctional, and why. If more than 50 per cent of the polling stations are found to have been off-line, perhaps a re-poll should be considered with security beefed up more than previously, since that is far from a level playing field.

That's it for the minorities then, LEJ/SSP are now going to act with utter impunity, time to get their bags packed and get out.

Was watching Talat's show and Khawaja Asif said "ye Tsunami tu Muslim shower bhi nahi nikla" :)))

^ of course these shameless creatures would make jokes of PTI now that they are 'elected' through grand rigging. Uncle SAM and Arab mullahs must be happy to have their poodles in power.

heard that before from MQM leader babar ghauri on capital talk :)))

Funny coming from a MQM who only win in Karachi and that to with blatant rigging and militants support. Terrorist party should concentrate more on karachi.

I say terrorist party should be eliminated with an operation for the betterment of Karachi and Pakistan as a whole.

Never cared for Abrar Ul Haq but lost all respect for him after watching Talat's show of today. He denied a quote attributed to him by Cyril Almeida from Dawn and called Cyril a liar. Knowing how honest, unbiased and balanced Cyril's reporting has been throughout this election, its very hard to believe Cyril will just make something up and publish it. Very pathetic attempt by Abrar to save his face. At one point on the rigging issue he said the solution should be that both sides should bring Quran and swear upon it. Lol. This guy is totally clueless. Made me remember a show I watched some time back in which Jawad, another singer from Lahore ripped Abrar and his charity org. apart on a Kamran Shahid show. That was before Abrar joined PTI. This guy is not helping PTI's cause IMO.

I pray for citizens of karachi and Pakistan, we need peaceful elections tomorrow.

I hope Army takes full control of election proceedings tomorrow as MQM have already made their intentions clear !

Just watched a ticker on Geo where Imran Khan said "Ab Dharna Hoga"

Has PTI officially announced Dharna? I think Imran Khan was referring to his three days deadline.

The army has to provide protection for karachi elections. Now it is just one constituency. The army can deploy enough troops to make sure there is no violence. If they cant, then they should be ashamed of themselves.

I have been saying this for a while now. There is no other way to deal with this BS other than protests, and Imran must lead them. I can be anything, that InshaAllah if Imran can mobilize these fed up people who are already protesting, to jointly protest, he will be unstoppable.

Looks like the killing of Zahra Shahid has done its job, really low turnout for the NA-250 re-polling.

According to media news voter turn out is low ...

I think MQM's boycott , and their threats, combined with heat are the reasons for it...

But even if the turn out is as low as 25-30 percent , it means at least 10,000 voters will cast their votes, and among them around 80 percent would be voting for PTI...

According to media reports Dr. Arif Alvi was trailing only by 400 votes to Khushbakht Shujaat ...

ECP has decided to hold re-polling at 47 stations in NA-230 (tharparkar) because of a report about irregularities received from district returning officer .....

According to the unofficial results announced by ECP , SMQ is winning here after the counting from other polling stations...

Even if SMQ wins here , he will have to leave one seat either from Multan or Tharparkar....

And in case of him leaving any seat, N league and PPP governments wont let PTI to retain that seat...:(

Protests will do nothing. ...

People voted...

They voted for corruption and status quo. ..

They don't want change

Revolutions only work when people want something better.

Pakistanis dont.

It was 120 odd seats to 20 odd.

What's a protest for a single seat going to achieve?

Better to focus on asking and understanding why people voted for corruption... And then challenge that position....

'Naamaloom Afraad' bring Hyderabad to standstill

HYDERABAD: Tyres were set on fire and roads were blocked in Hyderabad by unknown men on Sunday, Express News reported.

Shops remained closed and less traffic was seen on the roads following the protest. Gun shots were also heard by citizens.

A van was set on flames in Pakka Qila, Do Qabar Chowk area and a loader van was set ablaze in Pinjra Pul area.

A PTI leader Muhammad Usman said that his house and hotel were attacked early morning and he was harassed and threatened. Usman’s car was set on fire while several shops near his house were broken in to.

Security forces could not be seen anywhere during the protest.

Unknown individuals protested on Hyderabad and Latifabad roads on Monday morning, reportedly in response to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chief Imran Khan’s direct allegation on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain.

On Saturday night, PTI leader Zahra Shahid Hussain was shot dead in Karachi. Imran Khan had held Altaf Hussain responsible for the murder.

Due to the critical situation in the city, markets , shops, petrol pumps and medical stores remained closed.

Voter turn out is very low. No queues nothing. Some people who voted last time did not even know they had to vote again.

It is incredible how openly some people could pre rig the elections.

Murdering a PTI person last night and then firing all night yesterday.

People dont' really like MQM right now. They have easily cheated Karachi out of 5-7 seats

.

This.
Only if PTI and IK realize that this election process is useless and if we dont stand up now than nothing will change even after 5 years.

PTI is going to lose NA 250 coz MQM has succeeded in scaring PTI voters. If this happens, and PTI still doesnt protest with all full might, I would consider Imran as accepting defeat

According to a friend no one allowed to vote at polling station 138. He said there were around 1,500 to 2,000 people, most of them there to vote for PTI, but not allowed to vote as ballott papers were not there.

This is just incredible!

^ MQM has a huge lead already from the previous polling. The repolling is on 43 polling stations only. And PTI voters are nos scared of coming out to vote.

So even if PTI wins the repolling, they wont be able to win the seat

there are some results coming in and pti leading in all of them on geo news

According to Faizan Lakhani's tweet yesterday, yes.

I will be very surprised if PTI take this seat. PTI has clear support here, but according to what I have read, some polling stations have had less than 5% turnout, which means less votes for PTI.

As per Dunya News so far...

NA-250: Arif Alvi from PTI leading with 7925 votes and JI second with 232 votes

PS-113: Samar Ali from PTI leading with 2453 votes and PMLN second with 1162 votes from 9 polling stations

PS-112: Khurram Sher from PTI leading with 1520 votes and MQM second with only 7 votes
