This is a perfectly good scorecard after an hour.
Like at Old Trafford, Pakistan can get themselves into a strong position here.
Very PakistanesqueLoving the slip catching from England today![]()
Good start by Pakistan. Needs to capitalise on the dropped catches.
Not sure what Pakistan has to do to overtake England in Tests. Both seem equally poor. one is ranked 7 and the other is ranked top 3.
bizarre ICC rankings

Pujara also averages around 50.
Masood will not get anywhere close to that figure even if he practices for 24 hours a day. He doesn’t have the base talent required to excel at the top level.
Investing in him is a waste of time unless Pakistan is content with its 7th ranking and making a sub 35 average player captain.
So:
Shan is a waste of time
Sami Aslam is a strokeless wonder (so was Sir Cook but you're as biased as they come)
Abid has never faced swing
Fakhar isn't test quality
Imam is parchi
Who would you select then? KL Rahul?
Actually all teams barring Aussies are poor

Chris Woakes aka Sir Richard Hadlee these days
Right... how about a series in Asia then?
Everyone's struggling away from home. Australia's record in Asia is appalling to say the least.
Abid has gotten two chances. He has to make it count.
Also I think Azhar should be an opening batsman not a number three.
Abid Ali will not do well in swinging conditions. No matter how much runs he scores today he has edged two balls nicely to slips and this will happen every game.

You drew 2-2 in England in 2016.England won in South Africa and beat India at home. Yes, they are as bad as we are.
Irregardless of what he does in this game Mamoon there’s no way you can rate Curran
You drew 2-2 in England in 2016.
You drew 1-1 in England in 2018.
Please someone get Wasim out of the commentary box
Eng overall definitely hasnt looked as good as the rankings suggest but, thing is they have been winning matches in recent times and winning takes you up the rankings. If Pak wouldnt have lost home series in UAE against Srl and NZ, it would have been in the too 3-4. Even not loosing against NZ alone would have made Pak jump to top 3 then and would have been probably 4 around now.
Its not difficult, you just need to win matches and cant afford to loose too many home series in between.
Only against Pak mostly
My Pakistan Test eleven would be:
1. Sami Aslam
2. Imran Butt
3. Shan Masood (c)
4. Babar Azam
5. Asad Shafiq (replaced soon by Haider Ali)
6. Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7. Shadab Khan
8. Faheem Ashraf
9. Mohammad Amir or Mohammad Abbas
10. Naseem Shah or Haris Rauf
11. Shaheen Shah Afridi
My only players over 30 are Shan Masood and Shafiq, and Shafiq is my next guy to be replaced by a youngster.
Sir Cook scored 10,000+ runs with 30+ hundreds. Is it biased for me to not put Aslam in the same category? I don’t seem to understand your thought process.
And there are no world class openers in Pakistan. It is one of the many, many reasons why we are garbage.
By all means keep Masood in the team and make him captain but at least don’t pretend that he is any good. Just accept that he is a mediocre player opening for a mediocre team.

Abid Ali has been extremely poor and extremely lucky to be still out there. He is giving catching practice once every 5 overs![]()
Im going to give Pakistan the benefit of the doubt for losing those two series without Younis and Misbah for the first time. Its as good as taking out the core spine of your side. Can you imagine playing your first series without:
Root and Stokes
Kane and Ross
Kohli and Pujara
Smith and Warner (who enabled India to fluke an away victory in Australia)
+1 ... you on fire today Mamoon.
@ Hadi By the way, Shan is a bigger parchi than Imam. Imam has better stats in FC.
Miserable batting by Abid so far.. don't we have any better batsmen than him in domestic?

If Abid is the best opening batsman from here, I don't see any hope in our cricket
I am not saying he is a good batsman, i dont know. I havent seen him play.
I really thought you were sharper than that.
I was implying that an opener can still go on to score 10,000 test runs with very limited strokeplay as long as you know your off-stump and have the right temperament and patience/grit.
Btw, "mediocre batsman" was the 2nd highest scorer in SA test series from either side.
hes managed 25 off 57 somehow, just needs to do what he is doing by surviving
