Spin is expected to play a crucial role in Rawalpindi, a fact both teams have reflected in their line-ups. The last time these sides played here, the first-innings scores were 657 and 579, but it seems unlikely that such high scores will be repeated. The weather in Rawalpindi is pleasant, with a cool breeze blowing across the ground, and temperatures are expected to stay in the high 20s throughout the Test with no rain in the forecast.

The hosts have opted for the same line-up that ended their three-year, eight-month wait for a home Test win. Their XI was confirmed after the final practice session on the eve of the match, featuring seven players who can bowl spin and just one seamer.

The tourists, on the other hand, have named three specialist spinners for this crucial Test, including the return of leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed. Joe Root will serve as the fourth spinner, while Gus Atkinson is back in the squad after resting in the second Test.

Teams:

Pakistan
(Playing XI): Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Shan Masood(c), Kamran Ghulam, Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan(w), Agha Salman, Aamer Jamal, Noman Ali, Sajid Khan, Zahid Mahmood

England (Playing XI): Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes(c), Jamie Smith(w), Gus Atkinson, Rehan Ahmed, Jack Leach, Shoaib Bashir

good luck team Pakistan

after years I'm looking forward to a Pakistani test match

good that all the trash have been kicked out of the team

Pakistan need to bat first and score 550+. Just need good consolidation when the inevitable 9-2 strikes again

No Babar Azam or Shaheen.

We should win this match.

Pakistan should be winning the toss otherwise the whole thing can go south for them.

The pitch looks pretty solid to me.. Is this going to be a flat deck???

England win the toss and are batting first. RIP any chance Pakistan had of winning.

Toss Update:

England win the toss and will bat first in the third Test against Pakistan

Rawalpindi is historically a flat pitch aiding the batters - remember England's 500 on day one here two years ago?

Pitch pic looks decent to me. will have to see in action the after effects of pak innovative approach . if it really turns from day 1 , it's very tough for pak. If it starts turning from day 3 , then it's impossible for pak as eng will beat the hell out of them on flat pancakes.

Bummer.

Pakistan is not batting first.

Anyway, fight every session and try to win more sessions.

Pakistan missed an opportunity by not including a second pacer like Naseem. His reverse swing could have helped their bowling in the first innings and added depth to their batting.

Zahid Mahmood wasn't relied upon much, and Salman Agha was already available as the third spin option.

Pakistan are cooked. Batting in the fourth innings is not something they know how to do well

Sky Sports' Nasser Hussain:

"It is important [England winning the toss], with all the pitch talk.

"They will be pleased obviously, though I don't think it's the absolute deciding factor. You still have to play well."

Probably the Only sporting occasion where human fans will appreciate the role of industrial fans 😁

Looks like last test pitch on day 10.

Need to bowl, field and bat out of skin.

For a fearless side, England do sure whine a lot.

Huge turn already ...!

England getting rolled

Feels good having a team without snakes like Babar and shaheen. Once legwan is dealt with I think I can go back to supporting PCT

Noman Chacha trying to get under that ball as fast as his geriatric legs could carry him, could've been a real chance if someone younger went for it.

war of spin, Pakistan going without a plan
Going without a plan is quite usual for pak,, they still believe in their old jazba play... Where the game has evolved from Jazba to sensible cricket and mind games which they are yet to embrace and buy it, also why they are as a cricketing team going downhill..

Who is the fielder who ran for the Ben duckets catch.it was looking like a school boy running for the first time

playing on a turning wicket is fun until you have to bat last on it.

but this will be an entertaining match.

With Yorkshire having Shan as captain i expected him to be a shrewd captain but highly disappointed..

Not doing well as a batsman either , when Babar was there Shans 30s 40s 50s kept him above Babar and hidden but now his lack of runs also being exposed

Three SENA countries are playing test in Asia currently and all of them are in good position .

Lets be honest Eng were themselves to blame for last test defeat #drop catches

PCB / RCA did zero promotion for Test match, infact there was negative publicity due to traffic diversions

Pakistan have not made a bowling change since a week last Wednesday. Sajid and Nauman bowled 14.2 overs at the end of the first England innings in the 2nd Test, all 33.3 of the second, and continue plugging away 12 overs into this one.

the mindset of England team is commendable after Baz took over... They really put the 2nd test loss to spin behind them and going today with a fresh mindset.. They negated early spin quite really well, especially the sweep shots.
