Cook had already piled up the runs by then. He wasn't dropped early in his innings like Malik, Hafeez and Shafiq (no-ball).

He is still standing. He was 176 at that point.

Also, you missed out on the catch dropped by Fawad off Bell iirc.

How many dropped catches in the match so far

England dropped 3

Pakistan 2?

Don't get me wrong, I love Wahab's bowling but I have supported him when he was considered rubbish, because he has the x factor and bite in his bowling, but I have serious reservations regarding his status as a top class pacer.

Firstly, he doesn't take enough wickets (has a great chance of taking 5/6 here) and secondly, he doesn't have enough skill in terms of swing and seam, and is reliant on reverse-swing.

Most of our bowlers can't swing the new ball these days and those that do are erratic, so I am not going to get my hopes up over Imran II.

All in all, our fast bowling stocks are pretty ordinary, and the fact that we haven't replaced Amir and Asif in half a decade says it all.

Bell didn't do any damage, and we lost our chance of winning long before the useless Fawad dropped Cook.

England paid a bigger price for their missed chances. 300+ runs in the first innings.

I agree.

As far as skill set goes he is not comparable to top pacers.

But he makes up for it with heart and effort

Pakistan were batting first so trying to set the pace. England on the other hand came out to bat out a draw thus taking less chances which is evident with their lower run-rate throughout their innings. It is only touching 3 runs an over now and as a result more chances are coming Pakistan's way.

Let's say England still are 5 or 6 down at end of the day is There a point to playing tomorrow?

Might as well rest for 2nd match

Sarfaraz Shafiq and?

Shafiqs was kinda low so hard but in these conditions you need to take all your chances so poor

Shafiq, Sarfaraz, Fawad, Shan, Younus (edge flew over him in a split)

5 if we count half-chances

This has nothing to do with the fact that England's drops were more costly. They could have had us for less than 300 and their approach thus would have been different.

What a letdown this has been though

I had been waiting for it since August

Johnson is an ATG because he has had one good season..
And Wahab is a trundler who luckily gets some wickets from batsmen's mistakes.
They both can never be compared

Johnson isnt extra-ordinary either. Had one peak season and that is all.

Which was one of the greatest peak ever. An out of form Johnson is comparable to an in-form Wahab, which says it all.

We overrate our players beyond belief.

I'm done with this Test series, don't know why I'm posting. Looking forward to the ODIs now.

I am the last person to over-rate any player and even you know that. All i am saying is that wahab isnt that bad and there is no point in over-rating Johnson who did well mostly on supportive pitches. Couldnt do rat when it came to UAE, india etc.

No I am pretty sure we would have had the Misbah-YK rear guard kick in and would have pushed the score to 400. It's all ifs and buts anyway. Engalnd dropped dollies so not that great of a team. Fielding is key and as important as bowling and batting...

Cool, see you in 3 weeks then. :)

Tests are not for the faint hearted or those with short attention spans.

Ah well really thought we may get some early wickets today and a result could be possible but looks like a draw is inevitable .

Johnson did fairly okay on UAE. I think his average is 20 or something too.

Siddle and Starc were the big let downs

I love Test cricket, but these pitches are a farce. No point when draw is the only probable result since day 1.

Good for you if you have the heart to sit through this for 5 days.

No surprise that the causal fans think we are retards.

Both Younis and Misbah fell cheaply.

No one said he's bad, but don't compare him to MJ.

Abu Dhabi pitch does need to be relaid though, maybe with some different soil composition inserted.

Probably f all will be done though.

Last three Tests in UAE fortress:

Draw, innings defeat, draw.

UAE fortress :malik

Both Younis and Misbah fell cheaply.

Yes but we had runs on the board then (plus Misbah's dismissal was a farce). Had we been the usual 50 for 3 they would have changed thier approach. all ifs and buts...

Cookie Monster is an all-time great.

Dream Test opener, has achieved more at 30 than the vast majority in their entire careers.

As per Bumble's comment just now, it is not Pakistan who asked for this pitch. they are equally disappointed. hopefully things will pick in the next two tests...

Yeah, even Yasir would have struggled here so I doubt if this was our preference.

I hate watching Baba bowl; he is so lethargic and uninspiring.

See you after the Tests folks, cannot believe I waited for months for this farce.

Goodbye. :jf

You think if we'd have gotten Cook when he was at 147, the game would've been entirely different?

He's probably going to get a 300 now, but no don't think the would been entirely different.

Someone else would have scored a big century.

The one where SL scored 950 was the most boring.

Yenna manda ganam irrukanam andha madri oru terror performance a kuduka. :))
