Pakistan vs South Africa:Test 1: Day 2 from Centurion.

Gary pitches in. "Jose - Form may be temporary, but selection should surely be based on form. Smith and de Villiers have both been underperforming for awhile now... it might be time to give one (or both) of them a break and give a player in form an opportunity to prove his 'class'

cricinfo...

If people like Kaneria , Akmal (yes even Akmal ) , Rana , Farhat and Shahid are playing in a team - it speaks volumes about the quality of the talent pool ... In the last 3 years - Pakistan has won nothing outside subcontinent ..(You can clutch to the drawn WI series if you want to )

Two South Africans put up a partnership and the wrist-slitters are at it again. Does it not get boring after a while?

Funny Indian fan forgets the last test series thrashing...or is it already too far in the past?

Remember 34-6 and Akmal; yes the same Akmal who is suddenly so bad in his eyes

I see that your incessant rubbishing of Pakistan cricket continues.

well, AKmal has done a good job.......
Rana is useless and NAzir has just got few chances and Farhat well u cant expect anything from him....

They selection has been wrong...

These are fair weather fans...let them bleed some useless blood :)

I have one question - I know many people on this forum think that the "Warne" hiding inside "Kaneria" will be unleashed anytime .. But honestly speaking is there no competition for leg spinner spot in Pakistan domestic circuit ?? Why are senior players not dropped if they do not perform -- Even Indians have accepted the policy (albeit very late ) and dropped Ganguly , Zaheer and now Sehwag

Funny, we have such a waste of a team and yet India takes 50 some years to win a series in pakistan and it has been some 36+ years since they beat us at home :))) :)))

Funny, I saw all three in the last test...or was that their bhoots :20:

Just think if India had a bowler like Mohd,, Asif.. India wud have won the series,,,

I think Sreesanth performed similarly for India.

Rana and Nazir have been poor so far. I hope they can turn it around. If not, in come Akhtar and Gul next test, maybe.

Asif back into the attack now. We need a wicket!

c'mon wrist slitters are not there yet, they are waiting for Saffies geetting a lead .see after that a combined attack filled with happiness and saisfaction.yuo don't know, yesterday they couldn't even sleep properly thinking and thinking like ,what will happen if Inzi scores a century, what will happen if pak bowlers perform well.......wow lucky lucky it didn't happen by God's grace.

67.6 Naved-ul-Hasan to Gibbs, FOUR, Twhack! Again too short , rises waist-high, and Gibbs just rocks back to slap it through the midwicket region.

67.5 Naved-ul-Hasan to Gibbs, no run, fuller and the off and middle stump line, driven to the off side.

67.4 Naved-ul-Hasan to Gibbs, no run, just outside the off stump, Gibbs leans forward, defends with full face of the bat
Smith's last three innings before today adds up to 207 (58,94,55). reminds Sajan Nair.

67.3 Naved-ul-Hasan to Prince, 1 run, Rana continues to feed boundary deliveries. This was short and it sat up for Prince to pull it to deep square leg

67.2 Naved-ul-Hasan to Prince, FOUR, Another boundary for Prince. It was overpitched, on the off stump line and Prince doesn't move his feet, just drives it straight down the ground

67.1 Naved-ul-Hasan to Prince, no run, fullish, on the middle stump line, driven back down the track

Rana naved ul hasan has yet to prove he's test class bowler. A tragedy both shoaib akhter and umar gul are'nt playing. I am dissappointed with shahid nazir's bowling whereas kaneria's performance does'nt surprise me as his bowling figures will be the usual 100 plus runs for 5 wickets probably. For next match i would drop rana and kaneria and bring in rehman and akhter/ gul ( whoever recovers from injury first). Inzamam and kamran's poor show with the bat will cost us heavily unless our bowlers turn it around.

Some people want Pakistan to fail or do averagely so they can make themselves look good. Does their country mean anything to them?

Looks like you haven't been following cricket lately :)) Ganguly was dropped after the infamous Karachi match .. Zaheer too was dropped earlier and was out for 1 year .. and Sehwag has now been dropped for the WI series

68.6 Danish Kaneria to Prince, no run, again slips this down the leg side, Prince tries to tickle it fine, misses and Akmal gathers it.

68.5 Danish Kaneria to Prince, no run

68.4 Danish Kaneria to Prince, no run, better this time. Lands outside off , turns in, Prince lunges forward, defends

68.3 Danish Kaneria to Prince, no run, lands on the stumps and slides down the leg side. Harmless delivery. Not making the batsmen play 68.2 Danish Kaneria to Prince, no run, outside the off stump, left alone

68.1 Danish Kaneria to Prince, no run, on the leg stump line, slides on ... hits him on the pad

Kaneria should be given rest from the next match onwards and rehman should be drafted in. I can't understand why nazir has bowled so badly. Pakistan needs to get quick wickets otherwise they might suffer with saffies taking big lead. INSHALLAH asif will strike :19:

I was talking about the last test in SA; you do go in circles, don't you :20:

Sehwag just got dropped?...now that was due for the last 6 months or so now

Boss if your benchmark is India - then all the best .. You will always be a happy man ;-)
But I guess it is a typical subcontinental mentality - I know most Indians are hoping that Pakistan looses this series .. and maybe some Indian players too (that will mitigate the backlash ) .. It is a sad fact that Indian and Paksitani fans get more pleasure out of each others misfortune rather than the success of their teams ...

Are you that naive...you call our players bakwaas and expect me to not have a go at your team

Our team is doing quite ok...world ranking proves it too; worry about your team

those wrist slitters almost suffered a heart attack seeing Asif's early strike......however they are recovering slowly.

Asif and Kaneria have been the only ones threatening the batsmen

kaneria always threatens but i guess he is always "unlucky" just like sami.

and thats the end of a bad day for us.

saffies only trail by 59 with a set pair in and boucher and pollock to come.

Sa, will get a lead which will be 150 runs

I think we can safely say that we won't be seeing Nazir and Rana next match if Gul is fit.

Not a good day for us. With still Boucher and Pollock to come in they can potentially build a substantial lead over us.

We can only hope that Asif can take 4 more wickets with the second new ball..

A decentish day for us, today. Asif and Kaneria have bowled very well, and need some support from Nazir and Rana.

We need to get a couple of early wickets tomorrow, and a lead of 50 for South Africa would not be so bad.

C'mon PAKISTAN!

this reminds me of Pak v Eng (in pak) 2000 when eng racked up a big score in the first test and the only one getting wickets was Saqqy. He got 8 from memory.... replace Saqqy with Asif and its the same

Did we go onto lose that match?

I haven't been watching the match so can't really comment
But I will

Kaneria seems to have been bowling wide of the stumps all days which has made him harder to score off but means he won't be taking any wickets. Atleast he hasn't been bowling on the leg stump like certain two fast medium bowlers.

ahhhhh... good set up for the saffie batsmen ... relax vs wide non-threatening bowling from one end and then punish wayward deliveries from the other ... and the only time to worry is when asif bowls ----> all to easy !!

Why did they not bring Shoaib with them in the first place? We're practically playing 1 or 2 bowlers.

Don't say that to Monsee ..He thinks Rana and Shahid are like Michael Holding and Garner

That new ball is just around the corner now .. if we got any chance of winning this test still
most of it comes down to that new ball tomorrow morning.. if we can maybe most to most
give them a 30-40 run lead and then set South Africa 270 odd runs to win its still game on ..
come day 5 its going to be very hard scoring runs on this wicket... but we need to make
sure we still in the game by then.. come tomorrow morning is very very important we need to make
it our morning tomorrow or else we need to start praying for a draw atleast !!

New ball is the only hope for Pakistan. Pakistan need to bowl them out under 350.

Well we turned a deficit of over 140 to beat England in Multan so I completely disagree with all this 'our only hope is to....' stuff.

Obviously South Africa are edging it at the moment but we have the advantage of bowling last on a pitch which is already hinting at uneven bounce and a bit of turn as well. Asif has been phenominal as usual but the rest just have not been doing it, with the exception of Danish who has bowled pretty well without luck.

There are five overs to go before we get the new ball and the new ball will be absolutely crucial for us. We need to pick up a couple of wickets with it to prevent South Africa from significantly reducing the possibility of a Pakistan win.

But we have got four wickets so the important thing is that we are still in this match. A couple of early wickets tomorrow and all of a sudden South Africa will be staring at it.

No more like Thompson and Lillee

Go watch videos of your phaast bowlers...oh, sorry, you don't have any

ok thug listen. there is nothing wrong calling amla or moyo mullah. mullah mean friend of god.
As someone rightly responded to you - you are just a loser ..You post does not even merit a response

What it does show is the importance of making the bowler get you out. Pakistan and SA both were around 240 -4/5 at the end of the day. However you would expect at least one of these batsmen at the crease to get a century and maybe Pollock or Boucher to get a 50. From 183-2 we had done the hard part and should certainly have got closer to 400. A lot of cricket remains to be played but it is apparent we are missing Yousuf and Gul.

sure I will go - but only after getting rid of illiterate scums like you who do not respect Muslims and their faith

Never stop believing in Pakistan guys
The recent history tells us that we can win from any situation

Last matches against India in India and Pakistan
Sri Lanka
2 matches against England
West Indies In west indies

Never stop believing

listen thug, provide proof that i insulted muslims if not then shutup and stop trolling. :12:

our bowling looks toothless apart from asif, we,ve no out and out pace and the sooner gul and shoaib are back the better, if we get away with a draw in this and have our best batter and bowlers back we should beat southafrica, they dont look anything special as a team

its all about containment for Pak now. A lead of 50 runs or below won't hammer us that much but otherwise we could be in trouble. having said that if SA lose an early wicket, they would be on par with Pakistan and Pak will have a good chance to sneak back into the match.
