He failed in t20. He was then given tests instead. He hasn’t done well there. Then rewarded and given an ODI debut  .

It’s just clear we’re desperate for him to succeed at anything. Probably to justify selectors call. Or to avoid dropping him as a complete failure and thus denting his confidence in the future.
