250 should be a decent score on this pitch unless Australian bowlers start bowling rubbish.
 
What's up with the empty stands? Thought the crowds would be better in SA at least.
 
Dale Steyn is an amazing bowler. That ball which pitches on a leg-stump line (at pace) as it is swinging to hit middle/off is unplayable, and he seems to be producing it more and more often. It cannot be put into words how hard that is to bowl. He is on his way to becoming an all-time great and may well take his team to the top of the test rankings soon enough.

Kudos to Michael Clarke for a superb innings as well.

This is why test cricket is the greatest.
 
Clarke also played a couple of excellent knocks in Sri Lanka, scoring at nearly a run a ball when everyone else scored at 2rpo. Looks like the captaincy is agreeing with his batting.

We will have to bowl well - but there is not much you can do as Whippy said, if Steyn is going to bowl deliveries like that all series we are not going to win anything.

yeah I agree Steyn has was outstanding but tbh some of the dismissals were bizzare.

Hughes- needs to iron out his technical flaws. Steyn will eat him alive with that kind of defense.

Watson got a beauty but I believe he should be moved down the order. He will be better off there.
Ponting and Marsh played poor shots. Missed the line completely, Never covered the movement. Hussey was a bit unlucky and haddin? Seriously this guy made Imran farhat proud today with his foot-movement or lack of it.

Clarke was exceptional. Brilliant. period.

250 still a decent score on this pitch given that your bowler bowls well. Harris I believe will be good not sure about the other two. If mitch and siddle start leaking runs, then you guys are in trouble.

Agree Watto needs to go down the order, it was fine for him to open when he was making runs, now he is not we need to look at it. TBH he should take Ponting's spot at 4.

Ponting is finished. Haddin is a total hack who should be shot out of a cannon.
 
I think Watson will be best at number 6. He can play his aggressive shots when the ball at that position since the ball gets older and spinners are on. He is quite good at hitting them out of the park. Also, number 6 spot will give him a breathing space and he can contribute more with the ball too.

Marsh looked good no doubt though he played a bad shot to get out.

Yeah, Ponting unfortunately is finished. Sad but true.

I like watson as an opener. Yes, he is a cry baby, but a good opener.

His plan of playing every ball on the front foot has yielded results, but, he will always struggle against top quality bowler coz you just cant play them of the front foot all the time. But I mean really top quality. And lately, the only 2 bowlers in that bracket have been steyn and asif. One is no more, the other one got him

Looking at the conditions, it seems like Aussies have done a good job.

yeah Watson. Haddin was a typo.
Not sure, watson doesn't go big. He mostly falls b/w 50-100. I think that might be the right spot for him. number 5-6 I believe will suit him the most.
 
Australia should give mitchell marsh a chance. He looks a solid player

I don't think the team is strong enough to put him at 6. He is our best player I think he should be at 4, which might stop the lapses between 50 and 100.

Game starts shortly, we will want to get 250.

Then bowl like he'll but with MJ and Siddle we could easy give up 4pm if they bowl poorly or worse. Will be an interesting days play, just wish it was on at a decent time here.

FIRST test for rsa for over 10 months

and its showing in there performance so far...

aussie should have been all out for under 200...

on the other hand aussie been playing quite a few test matches recent... wich always help... but huge difference in the conditions... from lanka 2 rsa
 
This Clarke innings certainly has to be in the Top 5 of 2011 for sure! Magnificent counter attacking ton in difficult conditions.

Clarke even with 130+ to his name is finding it hard and its showing that this wickets is a pretty sporting one!
 
Damn the great Peter Siddle is out.

Not sure Lyon can bat much lol.

But 270 is brilliant for us, we can bowl at that.
 
I think the South African top 3 will have to battle hard against the new ball pair. If they S.A can get off to a solid start then they will have an advantage in this test match.
 
I can still not figure out ? Why haddin is in this Aus team, he is useless and even I can better than him.
 
This is the make or break for us, MJ and Siddle bowling in tandem. Saffers going at four an over.
 
Siddle showing that unlike Mitch he has the capacity to learn and bowls a much needed maiden.

Mitch bowling now hope he can keep it under six runs this over.

Need to get Harris and Watson bowling after lunch in tandem and get the shrink to talk to Mitch in the break.
 
Watson is absolutely beast. Did it with the ball in Sri Lanka and doing it again here. The best player in Australia.
 
In spite of the de Villiers hype, Kallis stats and Amla beard I always rated Smith the highest...time for him to step up to the plate once more
