What's new

West Indies v Australia | 1st test | Kingston, Jamaica | starting from May 22nd 2008

So who won?

If it aint decided afte 20 overs, I'm not interested anymore.

Ponting and Hodge competing for "DLF maximum sixes award". It was great to see Arseneo Hall jumping around and doing woo woo in the stands when camera was on him

Jaggernauth :))) his name is Jaggernauth

Amit Sheldon Jaggernauth.....sounds one confused person.

Not quite like someone with a name called 'Dave Mohammed'

Yeah, boring. Perhaps they should spice it up by allowing actors, pop stars, and other celebrities to play.

If the WI were actually good, we could use cheerleaders to distract them :D

But who cares about this Test? We have random Indian city vs other random Indian city in the IPL tonight!!

Edit: Brett Lee is a popstar :9:

And an actor right?

C'mon Calypso boys! Where's the stamina guys?

Cuddy Walsh could run into bowl all day with Edwards, Powell and Bravo all strapped to his back, maan.

Well he does some "acting" and we see him on every single bloody ad all summer :12:

It was funny in the days when he was 12th man for the whole summer though :D

Well, they've got the Carib Beer Girls, who I have to say are much more aesthetically pleasing than those IPL cheerleaders, and also have the decency to remain in the stands when they do their dancing.

I think as well as being a pop star, Brett Lee's also a Bollywood actor. I've heard of cricketers becoming successful actors, a career path first pioneered by Aubrey 'Round the Corner' Smith (so named because of his unusual run-up), who forged a very successful career as an actor.

I've never heard of people doing it the other way round though, as the ICL bosses seem to want to happen!

u know in china, everyone is martial arts expert... well in india/pak, everyone plays cricket! Theres a law for it! ;-)

Mitchel Johnson has now crossed 60 average mark

Aus 326-4 after 92 overs @ 3.54

92.1 Edwards to Hodge, OUT, Sharp catch from Ramdin. Hodge falls after making fifty. It kicked up from short of length, Hodge tried to cut it through backward point, it got big on him and flew off the outside edge. Ramdin dived to his right to pluck a fine catch

BJ Hodge c Ramdin b Edwards 68 (122b 9x4 1x6) SR: 55.73

Australia 326/5 (92.1 ov)

Symonds in

Come on Symmo, show that you're worth $1.5M son. Get us to 400, that should be a good first innings total.

aus 6 down

and symmo and haddin batting

wat kind of batting order is this?

Meaning? Mitchell Johnson came in as a nightwatchman. That's why Haddin's batting at #8.

TruSachFan said:
i knw but rarely u see ponting use a nightwatchmen

Actually, Ponting nearly always uses a nightwatchman. It was Steve Waugh who never used one. Ponting's a bit more conservative than Tugger - he uses a nightwatchman, doesn't make teams follow on and doesn't attack from the slips as much. :|

This is actually one of those crucial moments in the match. If WI can scalp another couple of wickets here they have a great chance of keeping us below 400, which would be a huge confidence booster. Looks like they're bowling really well.

Haddin on debut out on 11 ct behind off Sammy
Australia 368/7 (111.3 ov) @ 3.3
Last 10 ovs 18/1 RR 1.80

Makes you wonder what could have been had Warne been given the captaincy.

Sammy doing a fine job here.

Lets keep them under 400
I've been impressed with Sammy ever since I first saw him in England last year. He's a workhorse of a bowler who bowls a good nagging line and length, and can bat pretty well too. I'd play him over Powell every day.

yeah Powell's record is quite similar to M Sami's which is a bit of shame because he seems to be a fairly talented bowler.

powell, fidel and bravo .. it's like they have three sami's bowling.

wonder why windian bowling has become so ordinary .. perhaps a greater interest in baseball ?

Basketball I think. Lot of those tall guys who would have been bowlers are ending up playing basketball instead.

Right .. legendary Nicks center Patrick Ewing was Jamaican.

I just had a chuckle imagining this 7-footer bowl :))

For those watching .. what kind of pace is Fidel generating ?

^^

Late 80's-early 90's. Good pace, generally a good length, swinging it away with the new ball and reversing it with the old.

Just picked up his 4th; stayed low that one.

Lee LBW off Edwards
383-8 (114.4 ov) @ 3.34

114.4 Edwards to Lee, OUT, Bizarre! He was trying to duck into what he thought was a bouncer and is trapped in front! It was short and he ducked in and it hit him on his left thigh pad and would have hit top of the off and middle I reckon. The pitch takes out another victim
B Lee lbw b Edwards 4 (6b 1x4 0x6) SR: 66.66

Have to try to keep this under 400. Even then, Pontings cheap 158 may prove to be the difference.

decent pace ... not as fast as he was in his wilder days ... but still express.

Putting it in better areas on a more consistent basis. He was terribly erratic in his early days, though he would often crank it up towards 95 mph then.

ughhh ... what is symonds doing ...

with 8 down wish he would just get on with it and go into 20/20 mode ...

but instead he seems to be going for the "not-out average boostage".

Aus 399-9 after 120.5 overs @ 3.3

120.5 Powell to Clark, OUT, Fab catch from Bravo to end Clark's resistance. Clark had suddenly got ambitious and drove on the up and it was dropping well to the right of mid-off but Bravo threw himself to hold a stunning diving catch
SR Clark c Bravo b Powell 3 (16b 0x4 0x6) SR: 18.75

That's the effect of playing a series in India, land of the average boosters...

ahh here we go ...

121.5 Sammy to Symonds, FOUR, length delivery outside off and Symonds just stands and slams it through extra cover. He is letting it rip here
121.3 Sammy to Symonds, FOUR, This time Symonds drills it well to the right of Sarwan and to the boundary.
121.2 Sammy to Symonds, SIX, Smash! Symonds cleared his front leg and knifed through the line of a full delivery. Sarwan positioned himself under it, near the ropes at long-on but ended up palming it over the ropes.

Sarwan drops Symonds at boundry. commentator saying it was a straight forward catch and it ended in it being a six
Symonds 50 :123:

Edwards get 5fer. MacGill bowled
Austrlaia 431 all out after 126.5 overs
Symonds 70 not out

What do you think guys - will Windies batting last the day ?

:P

48 overs left so WI should survive. But commentary said bounce is uneven and it will probably keep getting worse

Lee to bowl to Devon Smith
3 slips & a gully and Lee has gone over 90 already

Wii off to a good start
WI - 14-0 after 6 overs
Parchment yet to get off the mark. Waiting for the right moment to attack

disciplined performance thus far from the windies batsmen.

lee and micthell need to bowl with a bit more variety ... the batsmen aren't chasing their little out-swingers.

hey what r your thoughts on amit?
I missed his bowling unfortunately(had an exam)

Mitch Johnson will take about 2 or 3 years to develop in to a good test bowler.

If we can scalp a couple of wickets before stumps it will set us up well for tomorrow.
