What's new

West Indies v Australia | 1st test | Kingston, Jamaica | starting from May 22nd 2008

It's ridiculous.

This Oz team has just one champion bat, something unheard of since AB in the 80s.

This Oz team has ZERO champion bowlers, Lee for all his bluster is not even as good as Gilesppie, please.

And yet opposition teams just seem to give up in their minds.

good ponit by the commentator still 2 good specalist batsmen at the wicket

38/5

I haven't followed the match too much, but Symonds would thrive on this situation. I reckon he'l take them to a formidable total.

Although i just saw a delivery by bravo that jumped off the track. That changes things a little but i still feel symonds will get a big one here.

Podge goes to Bravo, 70-6. This is bravo's real value, just when the match was starting to shift he sticks his foot in there.

Symonds 30*
Aus 92-6 after 33 overs - lead of 211
last over before lunch coming up

Jaggers will be easy pickings for Symonds. He looks like a pretty decent bowler though.

Great going by symonds. I don't think sarwan will be bringing Jaggers back on very soon. The good thing with symonds' innings is how much respect he's giving to the seam bowlers, he'l probably wait till the lead is safe and then take them to the cleaners as well.

Morton takes a good catch - Haddin goes for 23

Aus 144-7 (lead is 263)

Fidel bowling with a bit of venom & hostility.

Not wise as Brett Lee may dish it back!!!

And Lee is floored by a hit to the helmet off Fidel

Fiery stuff.

Great to watch!

The look on Lee's face after that hit... well.. let's just say i wouldn't want to be a west indian batsman right now.

Well Lee got Edwards with a yorker. But Lee is decent bat and will stand there (Ashes 2005) must have taken 4-5 hits
Edwards may have got Lee's hand now

53.3 Edwards to Lee, no run, this one lifted viciously, Lee rocks back, but gets hit on the right glove. Hides the pain well, but the crowd likes it. It was bowled at 93.4mph

53.5 Edwards to Lee, no run, this is more accurate, lee looks to sway away, but Edwards finds the elbow gouard and then the helmet. Lee is up, chewing gum, returning stares

Last ball Lee takes a single to keep the strike :19:

This is beyond the Windies now. It would take a monumental 153* by someone special to pull this off.

Lee caught behind.

Fidel gets his man - great little battle between these 2.

162-8

If he was still in the team, against this attack he'd still be capable of doing it. Right now chanderpaul is in a purple patch, and playing a similar sort of a role. But i doubt he'l even be able to make it to 90* before the other 10 are rolled over.

I just can't wait to see Lee's opening spell!

Its in the air....

3 Windies players go for the same ball....

There's a collision....

The catch is taken.

Symmonds is out.

Full on collision between fielders, but sammy manages to hold on to the catch.

Lead of 285/9

Agree with all 4 points.

Could have been a nasty collision there. Sammy was always the man to catch it - not sure what the Morton was up to there....

Exhillirating stuff from Fidy. Lets see how Brett replies.

if ponting's brain is working he'll give clark the new ball

Is this really Australia? Misfield for four in the first over, wide down the leg side for four in the second over... and i don't see that attitude of going for the jugular.

WI 10-0 after 3.

Play starts in 30 minutes

Big day for WI and indeed world cricket this

If the WI can cash in on this position and somehow steal a victory it will be an even bigger achievement than their win in South Africa. Even if they don't win but do well for the rest of the game it will be a major thing

It could also mean the beginning of WI becoming a competitive side again, so 8 good teams as opposed to 7 for Test cricket

Thanks for considering India a good team.

if u ain't considering BD or ZIN a good team. :P :P

The loss of Mcgrath, Warne, and Gilchrist has brought them closer to the pack. Hayden's pushing 37 so he doesn't have that much longer to go. It's going to be difficult for them to dominate like they have over the past decade or so.

I knew the quality of cricket was gonna go down but i never thought i'd see an aussie team who weren't at their opponents throats.

As i type clark gets parchment, Sarwan next in.

Parchment cant paper over the cracks :26:

He's crap....He's out

22-1

parchment was clueless against clark ... is gayle due back anytime soon ?

Mcgrath and Warne were a big part of that. Clark is a very good bowler, but he's not the most intimidating and ominous of figures. Johnson couldn't scare a fly, Lee's a nice guy, and Mcgill self-combusts more than anything else.

The chirp is found in their batting order; Hayden, punter, clarke, and symonds all like to have a word from time to time.

couple of people in stand have some stuff to say to Lee. my guess will be something related to Fidel

My contribution....

light is bad. There are clouds and maybe very light drizzle. There are 30 overs left in the day but only one hour left. Someone has been slow. I think play will stop soon for bad light

wi batsmen should get as many runs off of macgill as they can

he doesnt look that dangerous

Aleem Dar takes the reading on the light meter and has a chat with Tiffin. The light is not great here. Ponting is asking Andrew Symonds to bowl. But the umpires offer the light to the batsmen who accept it and walk off. The crowd like the decision. Ponting smiles. The umpires scribble something on their notepads. Ponting hits the staircase and his team-mates follow him to the dressing room. Will the light clear up soon? We have some time left.

Wii 46-1 after 18 overs - need 241 more to win

46/1 and take the light

If they don't come back today, that's 246 to get with 9 wickets in hand

Tough task, but if either Sarwan or Chanderpaul can hit a hundred, you never know

It has been an excellent, good quality Test match on a pitch that offers something to everyone.

You expect Australia to play good cricket, but West Indies have also 'come to the party' playing with great enthusiasm and spirit.

Who says test cricket cant get the crowd going.

No need for T20 here - Windies crowd has been buzzing throughout.

two big days tomorrow. Both Eng-NZ and WI-Aus.
They haven't called the end of day yet but it is likely this is it for the day
Since the Aus-WI series started IPL threads are not that busy. Half of them are probably arguments between Pak-Ind

Windies will need a century from someone tomorrow.

btw, what are the chances of showers tomorrow?

Definitely gettable, weather permitting. The pitch looks better for batting than the one England have got to bat on tomorrow. What a fantastic boost it would be for Caribbean cricket if they could pull it off. I would love to see West Indies cricket resurrected as a major power in the world game. The crowd over the last couple of days looked as if they were really enjoying themselves, which is encouraging, since it's the first time I've noticed a large-ish crowd (of home supporters) at a West Indies Test match for a long time. There certainly looked to be more people there today and yesterday than when England last played a Test in Kingston in 2004.

World cricket needs a strong and well-supported West Indies Test team, so let's pray that they're turning the corner at last.

the target seems realistic 240 or so in just over 90 overs on a pitch that offers no terrors.

just application is needed.

dont chanders will be able to bat before 5 because he did not take the field.

anyway a grippin finale awaits
