What's new

1st Test, Lord's : England beat New Zealand by 124 runs

Looks like stokes was looking to launch that sweep shot out of london!

Wonderful batting by these two. Root doing his usual stuff and Stokes showing his ability.

How in the blue hell did Pakistan get spun out by Craig :))

What a awful bowler!

Also thank goodness for Root and Stokes. Root is looking the leader many have suggested he is and Stokes is finally playing the knock the pundits were hoping for. He just needs to clean up his bowling and he'll be a very good all-rounder for England.

Most spinners fail in England.

Bowling in Asia is different from bwoling in Aus/SA/NZ.

Got him ! Stokes gone and the partnership at long last has been broken.

Oh horrible misjudgement from Stokes !

The pitch is pretty flat. New Zealand bowled well in the start and the negative batting my england was the reason for 4 wickets. But M-mac should have had set tighters fields and made bowlers understand the art drying the runs.. Any way 5 down. need to dry the runs and try to take wickets by pressure.

A wicket at last. It's still England's day if they post more than 300, even if they're bowled out. If you win the toss and stick them in, you've got to bowl them out for sub-300.

What's the point of Moeen Ali at 8? He offers more at test level with the bat than the ball.

Moeen was supposed to come out at No 6 but he was out in the nets.

Probably wasn't expecting England to lose four wickets so cheaply which begs the question...has he been watching England lately ?!

So halfway through the day Trent Boult has already bowled 16 overs?

McCullum really has not got the slightest idea of reasonable Test workloads. He's bowling these guys into the ground.

Although he is supposed to be a batsman but he has offered more with the ball which turned out to be a bonus. He only got himself to blame if England are starting to lose confidence in him as a bat, only a matter of time now before he is dropped all together. I can easily see him missing out on the Ashes and it will be a good decision because he's not ready for this level.

They are talking about the IPL on commentary now....ewwwwww

200 up. I thought England might limp to this score. I didn't expect them to pass it with a batsman in reserve.

He did it all last year and it worked more often than it didn't. Trent Boult is a superb athlete and he can bowl long spells.

They've hardly played more than a few T20s in the past few months.

McCullums style of captaincy isn't always going to come off but its been far more successful than the uninspired stuff we see from many captains. NZ has been bowling sides out regularly so i think he has an idea of what hes doing.

Hes not actually that bad although doesn't offer much suprise. Better spinner than Moen Ali.

Probably a better batsman as well.

Pitch is certainly becoming very good to bat on after a bit of life in that first session.

Should still be a bit of swing around with the second new ball so NZ would want to get near the tail by then.

Pitch will be best for batting on days 2/3 once sun comes out and it drys up properly.

Craig is bowling very well. Classical off-spinner, relying on variations in drift, etc. Action looks very similar to Swann, of course.

Top knocks by RooOOT and Stokes. Great fightback. Eng back in the game.

James Anderson's last 11 tests:

54 wickets at average 20, s/r 46.

Just a thought.

Here comes Mo, let's start counting how many seconds he lasts Robert

I'll settle for that from him today as long as Buttler stays in.

Double gutted for them. Both deserved to get their names on the big board.

They need to drop Mo, it won't be good for his career either if he fails in the Ashes because it won't be easy for him to get back into the side again. It's absolutely unacceptable for specialist batsman to be averaging 29; I'd be ashamed off batting at no.8 but that's how good Mo has been for England beyond that hundred against lanka.

This is hilarious, somebody put Mo out of his misery. What a pathetic display from him, he's not worthy of a Test Cricket cap.

I wouldn't play him in tests because IMO Stokes is the better test-match all-rounder. They should try to develop the leggie and get Mushtaq back to coach him.

This is a good time to bat - the nicest weather of the day and the Kiwi bowlers tired. 275-6 is riches indeed after 32-4. I though NZ would be batting before tea.

Stokes Bowled - Craig.Well made 92.

England has a massive depth in the batting department. Let's see if the 3 bowlers + 2 all rounders strategy works for them.

I missed the start of this match, what a pity. From 30 odd for four, England have done amazingly well here. This is the advantage of having such a deep batting line-up.

Trott in the stands. Poor guy, failed miserably on his comeback.

Good shots from Buttler and Ali.

Whattay shot! Moeen Ali's back-lift is a double-edged sword. Just a mere push and the timing and back-lift does the rest
