I agree that Indian cricket is going up. We now have great players like Dhoni coming out of small towns. Improving economic conditions in the entire country is the reason. Also the presence of a professional league (IPL) promotes professionalism and gives good players one more venue to show off their class. A couple of decades ago Indian selectors were very political (reference Mohinder Amarnath's "bunch of jokers" comment). However now the players have different venues to show their class which puts them less at the whim and mercy of the selectors. Due to its large population the talent pool for India is massive, and if opportunities are provided to players to develop and the selection process is not political, then it is inevitable that the Indian team will be very strong. We are currently seeing some of that, but the Indian team could get still stronger yet.

Yes that's why we beat them in their own country last time we played a series . Pak cricket structure might be struggling but there's more than enough talent to make the kiwis bottle it again in the knockout phases
