Arsenal FC | 2024/25 Season

There’s a number of things that I’m not pleased with Arteta. For example, today I’ve been thinking we sold ESR when we could do with him now in Odegaard’s absence.

However, Arteta didn’t take the club backwards. A washed up Wenger, who should never have managed the club post 2012 is where Arsenal went backwards.

Under him, Arsenal failed to make the top 4 in 2017 for the first time in over 20 years.
Of course he took the club backwards initially.

Have a look at 5 seasons before Arteta took over and 5 seasons since.

The two 8th place finished are down to Arteta, people want to give him credit for improvements at same time it took him 2 full seasons just to finish 5th, which is the starting point of the team for the season before he took over.

So when people start talking about going from 8th to 2nd. The fact he took club backwards isn't a great achievement. Nor is no trophies in 5 years, nor is 4 seasons without a cup final, plus the regular humiliations in Europe.

Wenger should have indeed left a lot earlier then he did. A washed up wenger was still able to win more trophies and get to more finals then Arteta.

Until Arteta gets over the line here or at another club all the progress is worth nothing unless it yields trophies.

ESR, Nelson etc.. Will do well at Fulham and better for them to be at a club where youth is given backing.

All about opinions.

But when you put Arteta alongside Pep, then it has to be the Greatest delusion of all time
Being 8th in the league and winless in last 7 is not a matter of opinion. It is a fact.

You fumbled big time when you claimed that Arteta inherited a stable ship. The reality couldn’t be further from the truth. Take it on the chin and move on.

Neither has Arteta who is in his sixth season and has a staggering net spend. And all he has to show for it is a solo FA CUP.
Competing for the PL and finishing 2nd including most pts ever in a season for Arsenal is much more significant than winning domestic cups but not fighting for the PL.

Lol. You got more faces than big Ben lol.

When klopp did the same you bashed him. Which I agree with.

But then you term Artetas also rans as great achievement for finishing second

Klopp was doing great until 2020, but then he got exposed by two factors:

1. Between 2021 and 2024, he had two seasons where he finished on 69 and 67 points with a squad that was capable of winning the league.

2. He stopped competing with Arteta’s Arsenal as soon as Arteta build together a title challenging squad.

Away to City today . Arsenal won’t be facing a terrible Spurs team , this is the test of champions.

Arteta will likely park the bus , if he did v spurs he will again & will hope to get another lucky goal via a city mistake .

I feel a little sorry for Arsenal fans, this is a tedious style of football Arteta has now adopted. Liverpool managed to win the league because of their mentality to win every game against every opposition, reason why they beat city on numerous levels occasions .

I think city will find a way through today .

My prediction- low block Arsenal , city will be patient.

2-0

Would you swap last season for Arsenal with 2019-20 when they won the FA Cup? Would you?

It is a straight forward question, and I expect a yes or no answer without any deflection if possible.

It wasn’t even Artetas team . Besides you don’t have to finish 6/7 to be happy with a trophy.

Finish in top 4 is first priority. Then if you can’t win it , win something. It’s simple but you don’t get.

Have to be clinical in final 3rd as chances will be limited

Rodri went down like he had be hit by dubois 🤣

Ha Ha...Haaland Goal.

What did I say? He won't score in Champions league but comes weekend he will be fine

:kp

Wow I didn't expect a goal so soon.

Arsenal just let them through as if it was a friendly kick about.

Gudogan hits the post, once sided beat down so far

Arsenal midfield non-existent here.

Trossard offering nothing as 3rd midfielder. Rice and partey poor as well

COYG

We have to keep our discipline.....
We'll have more moments

No red for Pep? Was violent conduct on the chair? 🤣

Actually, watching that back, I can understand the City complaints. Quite poor from the ref.

Obviously not Arsenal's fault, they did what they had to

Trossard booked, hes been non-existent otherwise

Poor finish by Trossard, get it in target atleast

That's so stupid from Trossard, when you are on a yellow why do that? Especially considering what happened to Rice

Trossard useless all game and gets two yellows for dumb challenges.

Long 2nd half now

it was end of added time...just had to see it through for a few seconds more..

So stupid from Traussard.....

Man City will feel things have not gone their way, but they have got a huge one there.

City dominated early , the Rodri injury & the poor refereeing leading to the miss cross goal really boosted Arsenal . Brilliant set piece again , you’re thinking this could be a huge win but Trossard wanted to hit further than Rice 🤣

Arsenal can hang on & try to get a corner on the counter . More likely City win this now by scoring 2/3 goals .

Going to have to depend on saka and Martinelli on counter in 2nd half, can't just park bus and give city ball 2nd half.

Oliver never needs an invitation to send Arsenal players off. Trossard being dumb played into his hands.

Don’t need lectures from folks who know nothing about football and have demonstrated that on numerous occasions.

Arteta team, Emery team etc. doesn’t matter.

It was Arteta’s tactics and management that beat City and Chelsea in the semifinal and final to win the FA Cup.

Besides, that is not even the point. I have made my point a dozen times but I can repeat it until the cows home, that’s fine.

Winning domestic cups mean nothing when you are not fighting for the league. Last two seasons for Arsenal have been much better than any of their four FA Cup winning seasons between 2014 and 2020.

There is a huge difference between finishing in the top four and competing to win the league. Huge difference that you fail to understand.

Arsene Wenger would have never been driven out of the club if his team was challenging for the league the way Arteta’s Arsenal is, and all United fans would have been unanimously backing Ten Hag if you swap last two seasons of United with Arsenal’s.

Of course, you would rather win domestic cups than not win it. Don’t get me wrong, but if it’s a choice between finishing 2nd (missing out on the league by a small margin) and finishing 3rd/4th without properly fighting for the league and winning a domestic cup, the choice is super easy.

When you win a domestic cup and not compete for the league, you are showing no progression and there are question marks on the manager and the dressing room.

It only provides momentary happiness but it still means that a lot has to change for the club to compete for the title again.

Slot can win 3 FA Cups in 3 years but Liverpool fans will not get behind him if he fails to challenge for the league.

KDB isn’t playing but City have many who can score from distance. Keeper will also be key & is in top form .

Saka should play as a lone striker imo , take havertz off & look for a long ball to him on the counter .

Ben white needs to come on too .

A draw is a good result for Arsenal .

I wish Arteta could back up your winning research papers with any silverware.

Btw Arteta consoling Trossard for his stupidity was hilarious. They won’t learn with pats & kisses

ffs, passes into Martinelli have to better. Just giving ball back to cheaply

Whilst City have all the ball Arsenal don't look massively under the cosh

Been relatively comfortable for 30 mins, just another 20 mins to see out and I think they can do it, would be a huge win

Arsenal have defended really well in this half, looking like they will see the win through because City for all the ball are relying on shots from distance

Raya with another good save.

Looking at man of match here

Risky tactics but payed off . City poor shooting but perfect from the keeper !

Needed fortune but huge win for Arsenal .

Should be a competitive title race between a few teams imo

This Arsenal team is very poor. They can only dream of PL title with this performance. In second half there was only one team out there.
